The Fiery Trial Commences

By Charlie Johnston

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal which comes upon you to prove you,

As though something strange were happening to you.

But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings,

That you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.

  • 1 Peter 4:12, 13

For the first time in my lifetime, the FDA has approved an experimental medical device – the mRNA shot, not because it has met the rigorous protocols normal for such experimental therapies (it has not), but because the political class wants it done so they can mandate it. Ever since the passage of politicized medicine with Obamacare, I have worried this might be the instrument of socialist takeover. Strange that this should come just as even the establishment media is reluctantly figuring out that this shot does not work very well – and for many, is more threatening than the illness it seeks to protect against.

This, however, is consistent with how Democrats have acted since the inauguration of Barack Obama. When unemployment numbers got bad, Obama simply quit counting those who got so discouraged they quit looking for work as unemployed. When actual inflation was starting to spike, Obama ordered that groceries and gasoline prices cease to be counted in calculating inflation. That has become the Democrats go-to way of addressing serious problems: don’t fix the problem, just change the way you count it. Abandon all objective standards. The little people must accept what the ruling elite says because it is the ruling elite who says it. To approve an experimental therapy that has failed nearly every objective standard all other medical therapies must clear, just because Democrats want it to be so is the most hideous form of medical malpractice in America since the 40-year Tuskegee Syphilis Study which began in 1932.

Except in the case of a genuine emergency, the government has no authority to mandate any particular medical treatment even if it is fully vetted and approved in the normal, careful fashion. To try to mandate an experimental therapy that has skipped over almost all the normal safeguards is beyond abusive and unconstitutional. To call that unprecedented therapy a “vaccine” to try to hide how radically new and unprecedented it is, is a flagrant lie.

A government can impose limited emergency restrictions in a genuine emergency. It is hard to get good information when the medical authorities we have counted on have prostituted themselves for a political narrative and are doing their best to downplay or mangle solid data to support their narrative. But even working with their mangled data, anyone who gets Covid has a 99+ percent chance of surviving. For those 65 and over, Covid is more dangerous than the flu. For those 40 and under, the flu is more dangerous. With what we know from the medical authorities own flawed data, the mRNA shot is definitely more dangerous to people under 30 than the disease is. If, viewing CDC’s own (admittedly unreliable – but exaggerated in the case of Covid and downplayed in the case of the shot) data, this constitutes a crisis, then so does the flu. In fact, there will never be a time again when we do not face a crisis that gives the government extraordinary arbitrary power. I am more likely to develop cancer than to die of Covid. Does this give the government power to mandate I begin chemotherapy now “just in case”?

The release of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s private emails revealed that he, too, knew that masks did not provide protection from a virus, but were mere useful totems to make people feel safer. In my naievete, I honestly thought this revelation would put an end to mask mandates – but the “follow the science” crowd does not care about science at all if it does not grant them coercive power. If the government can mandate what even its most ardent advocate admits privately is just a totem, can it then mandate we all carry wiccan crystals, dreamcatchers, or rabbits’ feet? If not, why not?

Regular readers know I am rather dour about large conspiracy theories. If something requires vast flights of fancy and purports to explain everything, it usually doesn’t explain anything. Yet in the last year and a half we have inflated a genuinely serious new disease that is still well within the spectrum of normal respiratory viral infections into the equivalent of the black plague. Authorities suppressed effective therapies for it that have been a great success in every country that has used them. It used the fear and suppression to herd large numbers of people into taking an unproven experimental gene therapy shot, calling it a “vaccine” to hide how unprecedented it is. Now that some establishment media have started to grudgingly notice that the “vaccine” does not work very well and has caused a multitude of problems already (heart enlargement, blood clotting, infertility, sudden death) the master class shrieks all the louder that everyone must get the shot they prefer and be denied the therapies that are actually proven to work. I don’t know if there is some sinister conspiracy, but if there was one, this is what it would look like.

In tumultuous times, the temptation is to go scurrying desperately after every strand that can help make sense of what is happening – plausible or implausible. This leaves many people furiously chopping away at the branches of a problem while getting nowhere near the root. In such cases, I have always taken refuge in “first things,” fundamental principles that allow me to analyze the situation soberly and come to rational conclusions. It both soothes me and helps me make good, considered decisions. Even when I don’t hit the bullseye, I am almost always in the right neighborhood. Here are a few “first things” that guide me.

  • Truth will stand the test of examination. There is no arbiter of truth in this world. Every person must defend his opinion in the marketplace of ideas. No person is allowed to act as arbiter to decide what is “misinformation.” If your opponent is pushing what you believe to be misinformation, you must counter it with more persuasive information, backed by solid evidence and logic. If you fail, you need to go back to the drawing board to see why and adjust for the next confrontation.
  • The person who seeks to silence opponents instead of proving his own case is, at best, incapable of intellectual argument and, at worst, a liar. That means that if you seek to silence dissent, I dismiss you out of hand. It is the quickest way to convince me you don’t know what you are talking about. If you did, you could make an argument besides, “Shut up.” You are useless and ignorant.
  • On a matter of rights, no poll is relevant. Actual human rights under natural law, as partially described in the American Bill of Rights, are not subject to infringement, even if 99.5% of the population thinks they should be infringed. Anyone who tries to coerce another on a matter of right is a thug. If an official tries to coerce anyone on such a matter, they should at least be removed from their position of trust. If it is a government official, they should be both removed and jailed for a time.

Though I have spent a year examining data on the Covid business and the gene therapy shot, it was not really necessary. Once I saw that the officials and “experts” involved were bowdlerizing data and were either unable or unwilling to defend their position beyond telling dissenters to shut up, I dismissed them as low men worthy only of my contempt. They had no chance of persuading me until they honestly engaged the questions. When they deceptively called the experimental gene therapy shot – which is an entirely novel and unprecedented therapy – a “vaccine” to make it seem more familiar, I concluded they were fundamentally dishonest as well as ignorant. When they suppressed therapies that had proven effective in every nation that tried them, I concluded that they were evil and power-mad.

With me, before you get a seat at the table at all, you have to be prepared to persuade me and defend your data. The reason I do not get into many exotic theories is that, before I will take you seriously if you are proposing something to me, you have to have substantial backup and respond candidly to my reasonable questions. If you will not, there is no reason for me to go into speculation on an area where I do not have formal training. You have to meet that first threshold of accountability before I am obligated to use my formal training and extensive experience in professional research to vet what you say. If I do it anyway, I risk making an unforced error – and allowing you to raise some moral equivalence with me for that error. There is rarely an upside to going forward until the intiator has met his threshold of accountability – and a major downside risk. The only reason I engaged this time was because a collective madness has settled over the country and the world. Too many people are not demanding that officials meet even the most basic of first principles. A real fascism has arisen in both America and the world. Australia and Canada are perhaps the first in the west to fall fully under the spell of fascist authoritarianism – but the race is on in most western countries to see which can be the most comprehensive tyrants. The minds of the best have been clouded over, leading many to chop away at the branches of these problems as the root grows ever deeper.

Authorities of the Church are no less flailing. Rather than confront the whole raft of issues roiling the Church, I will confine myself to Covid and stewardship here.

First, let me state clearly my position. Except for the use of aborted fetal stem cells in the development of the gene therapy shots, there is no sin attached to getting the shot. My primary objection is practical. Morally, I cannot be forced to inject an unproven, risky substance into my body. Constitutionally, I cannot be forced to inject even a benign substance into my body. People are free to make their own choice in such a matter. You say you want to keep me safe by forcing me to get the shot? I say I want to keep myself from the already great known risks of the shot and the multitude of unknown risks. And I would like to keep you safe, too – but I do not presume to have the right to force you.

A Bishop may honorably (though imprudently, I think) recommend the shot without sin attaching to that recommendation. If the shot becomes the comprehensive disaster I think it will, that Bishop will bear responsibility for going with the crowd instead of doing his due diligence with fortitude. Mitigating that responsibility will be that he had the errant and sometimes even fraudulent counsel of people and authorities that he once could trust. But sin will not attach to it. If, on the other hand, he mandates – or supports mandates – to force people to take the experimental gene therapy for a genuine, but mundane, threat, he is in danger of the judgment, for formal Catholic doctrine is that no vaccine or medical treatment must ever be mandatory.

There are too many Bishops – most notably Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago and Bishop Robert McElroy of San Diego who are actively pushing for a national mandate in contradiction of clear Catholic doctrine. Bishop  McElroy wants to mandate that you must have the shot to be able to attend Mass, though he has not yet gone that far. Imagine that! Our founder, Jesus Christ, welcomed even the lepers. Some of our modern – and very powerful – Bishops want to turn away those who will not take a risky experimental gene therapy against a respiratory infection that has a 99+ percent survival rate. They have their reward. Thankfully, the Bishops in Colorado, under the lead of Metropolitan Archbishop Samuel Aquila are providing conscience exemption letters – not that our increasingly fascist authorities will accept such a thing. Archbishop Aquila has taken a prominent leading role in many orthodox initiatives this last year, even if some are behind the scenes.

Few have noticed how rapidly the many adverse effects of the therapy are cascading into public awareness. I suspect one reason for the cascade is that so many people now know someone personally who has suffered serious adverse effects. Meantime, the strategy of the ruling class is to shriek all the louder that we all MUST do as they say and make those who refuse the shot the equivalent of the kulaks in Stalin’s Soviet Union (millions were ultimately executed for the crime of having a small farm and a couple of chickens); scapegoats for the abysmal failures of the ruling class. Those useful idiots who shriek the loudest in support of the ruling class’s depredations are blissfully ignorant of history (among many other things) so do not know that, if they succeeded, they would only move themselves one step closer to their own purging.

We have, then, a ruling class that is hellbent on having its way regardless of reason and evidence; a large underclass which will not submit without evidence or reason; and a large middle class caught between the two, not sure of what to believe.

I often imagined myself standing atop a mountain being forced to watch two trains, barreling towards each other on the same set of tracks, heading for catastrophic collision. I felt the helplessness of not being able to do a thing about it, save perhaps assemble the ambulances. Now that recurring nightmare of my fearful imagination is playing out before our eyes.

The young theologian, Daniel O’Connor has used the felicitous phrase, “the dress rehearsal of the Antichrist,” to describe the current crisis. While O’Connor suspects the appearance of the Antichrist might be imminent and I insist it is not, the phrase he coined gets it just right. Though the devil is doomed this time, he is using the current swirling chaos to, in effect, test-market and refine gambits he will use at the actual end. This is, however, a double-edged sword. Mankind can use the devil’s efforts as an opportunity to understand its own weakness and what solidifies holding fast to Christ.

The gene therapy shot is NOT the mark of the beast. It does, however, illustrate how easily a malignant ruling class can impose such on the general population – while puncturing confident assertions of Christians who are over-confident in their own fortitude and surety that they would NEVER violate their own conscience. As I have repeatedly emphasized, serious sin does not attach to a decision to take the shot or not. Yet those whose conscience and real pragmatic concerns weigh against them taking this shot are now finding their jobs, careers, opportunities, and freedom threatened if they do not knuckle under and either violate their conscience or ignore their serious pragmatic concerns. We are all finding that being hypothetically brave in confronting a hypothetical situation is a lot easier than being really brave when confronted with a real crisis of conscience in which there are real and hard consequences. This can help the most committed Christians to understand more intimately that, if we are to endure, our strength is not sufficient. We must understand, with John the Baptist, that, “…He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30) Paradoxically, surrendering to Christ is both much harder and much easier than we imagine. On the one hand, our human nature wars furiously against it as we desperately seek to maintain the illusion of control. On the other, as we practice it in little things to develop strength in it, it relieves us of the burden of trying to maintain the illusion of control while freeing us to truly take the next right step, with due consideration for the needs and rights of others, but without fear of temporal consequences – knowing that once we completely surrender to God, everything He allows to befall us is for our good or that of others we love. Once we truly embrace becoming a willing tool in the Master’s hands, we become a profoundly powerful and effective tool. Until that moment of surrender, though, we remain nothing but a blunt object flailing impotently away at the branches of the problems around us.

God is a devoted and loving Master. He devotes Himself – and most of our lives – in offering lessons on how to think. He gives us opportunities to fail, that we might learn to succeed in Him. If people could just see the events of our lives as one great training ground, seeing our many stumbles and weaknesses as the price fortitude exacts as prelude to success, we would not despair so easily. In baseball, the novice infielder who makes eight errors in his first 10 attempts is only a failure if he gives up. If he persists so that he makes five errors in his next 10 attempts, then three, and finally rarely makes an error (though even the very best sometimes make an error), then he is using the opportunity of his failures as the foundation for success. That is why he who is saved is he who endures to the end. (See Matthew 24:13). God is teaching us to be radicals in our devotion and commitment to – and our dependence upon – Him. Though often painful, it is the only secure path to abundant life in Him. Be thankful He loves us so much He is offering us such training now.

Cast away trite pieties and flimsy formulas. These are just efforts to maintain the illusion of control and mastery. Seek to see with fresh eyes. When I was yet a boy many relatives and adults around me often thought I was a smart-aleck because of the questions I asked. I actually wasn’t (at least not often); I just wanted to know what was true when obviously contradictory statements and beliefs were glibly offered. Beginning as a boy and continuing as a young man, I restlessly read and re-read the Bible. I got agitated when people would glibly cite a particular snippet of Scripture as final proof of a matter without considering other snippets that seemed to contradict it. I did not assume Scripture was wrong, but that their understanding of it was much more shallow than they thought. In my mind, either it all must hold or none of it can hold. The first 35 years of my life were a restless search for how it could all possibly hold. I was not satisfied until a light went off while reading St. Augustine’s “Confessions” in the summer of 1990. In this autobiography, St. Augustine took the opportunity to chastise those who “abuse Scripture as mere science or mere history.” It is, he said, the eternal word of God given to draw us to salvation.

My holistic approach to reading and questioning Scripture has led me to a different approach to its interpretation than most. For example, many people use the snippet, “let your yes be yes and your no be no” to condemn anyone who is rhetorically subtle. Yet how can this be when Jesus also advises us to be as “sly as serpents and as gentle as doves”? What about the parable of the dishonest steward? Even more, what of the rhetorical gamesmanship of Jesus, Himself, as He constantly led His tormenters into rhetorical and logical traps? I do not adopt the simplistic approach to that snippet of Scripture, for either it all holds or none of it holds. In fact, the primary source for most of my rhetorical subtlety is derived from the example of Scripture, itself. I do not think the originally cited snippet of Scripture forbids subtlety, metaphor, or even misdirection. Rather, I think, it points towards living a coherent unity of character. You can’t lead a dual life. Critics often called Ronald Reagan the “teflon president” because his misstatements never stuck to him. They missed the point. Reagan’s intentions and goals were so transparent and obvious that even when he made the occasional misstatement, people knew with confidence what he meant. Both a great negotiator and a subtle wit, the silly ‘gotcha’ games could not erode the connection he made with ordinary people because of the candor of his character. His yes meant yes and his no meant no. It speaks to a transparency of mind and visible singularity of purpose.

Some on the anti-God left would say my approach to truth is tainted by my Catholicism. I was not born into the Catholic Church. I chose it because it answered coherently my questions (I am speaking here of Scripture and formal Magisterial teaching, not the ideological pretensions of some popinjays wearing miters.) I weary of pitiful mediocrities playing at being smart by attacking religious tenets they do not understand. I also get annoyed at well-meaning conservatives who call leftism a “religion.” It is not; it is merely a set of superstitions. A bona fide religion has a coherent set of principles that are generally accessible to any who study them. Christianity and Judaism have produced the most bona fide geniuses in world history. What has atheism got to compare? The best they can usually come up with is Albert Einstein – who began as an atheist and ended as a deist, so not an atheist at all. If the best evidence I could come up with for Christianity was a Christian who ultimately became an atheist, I would have the wit to keep my mouth shut. When I meet the atheist who can seriously grapple with St. Thomas Aquinas on anything, I will be impressed. And no, you mental mediocrities, a sneer is not an argument, even if a lot of folks desperate to be counted among the cool kids consider it a compelling one.

And so, how to prepare for the fiery trial that has already begun to show itself?  First, get your mind right – both for combat and for restraint. Do not treat everything as a mere contest to prove how brilliant and insightful you are. If someone tries to force something on you, refuse until they answer your questions honestly and candidly. If they are unwilling to refine their argument, it can quickly become a fool’s game to try proving or disproving it yourself, especially if it is outside your area of serious expertise. There are at least a dozen contradictory and breathless explanations of how dangerous the gene therapy shot is. Adding your favored one to the mix does not help; it only adds to the chaos and confusion while diminishing the credibility of dissenters. It is sufficient and powerful to demand that the initiators explain their case credibly before going any further (with the exception of people who have actual credentialed expertise in the subject).

When any large class seeks to rule by fiat, refusing to be accountable to the people they supposedly serve, confronts a large class which refuses to submit without candid accountability, a terrible clash is imminent. I have long said that the only way this ends peacefully is if either the officials back down or the normal submit. It will not end peacefully.

In Australia, they are at serious risk of a Rwanda-style catastrophe because of the government’s authoritarian reflex – and supposed conservatives are doing little to nothing about it just as in America. All of Western Europe is very wobbly, to put it mildly. Western civilization has left the building.

I am often asked what will be the trigger that sparks collapse and revolt. I generally respond that we are like a football field implanted with mines every ten feet on both axes. It doesn’t matter which goes up first; once one goes, all will shortly follow. I expect this to be relatively brief but insanely intense. The control freaks who constitute the ruling class are also incredibly ignorant incompetents. Their incoherent policies are combining to make this into a combination of the bitter poverty of once-great Venezuela and the frantic rush for the exits of Afghanistan. While the policies they advocate will lead to their own fiery immolation, because they are the ruling class, they will impose a lot of collateral damage on innocents along the way. We have empowered aggressive tyrants in Jihadic Islam and Communist China. They will strike while the iron is hot. In the larger perspective, I have always said that I believe God intends to strip us of all that we rely on for security above Him. But I have also always said that it is to restore us to right reason under Him, not to destroy us. The fiery ordeal has commenced.

If you have contemplated an emergency plan in case things do go south, now is a good time to review it. Whatever prudent preparations you have in mind, we are very close to the point where it is no longer a drill. Keep in mind that whatever you plan, no matter how elegantly simple, God may choose to thwart it to test whether you trust in Him or still in yourself. If you can learn to see both disaster and triumph as the same fraud in different clothes and walk humbly in the presence of God in either case, you will do well.

I am hearing from both good people and even a few religious organizations of sudden, vicious attacks against them that have shaken them. I have been able to offer counsel to a few, counsel that so far has helped them navigate these strange and treacherous new waters. The lion is prowling the streets looking to find whom he can devour. Simplify. The only irreplaceable resource you have is God. Meantime, keep close to those family members, friends, and neighbors that you can. The bonds you forge with them will form the basket that can carry you safely through this torrent. I know that many families and friends are divided by current political issues. This is a hard saying, but if they will not respect your conscience while you respect theirs, you must cut ties. Do not demand that anyone believe as you do, but only that they respect your conscience. If they cannot do even that much, there is nothing further you can do.

I say again that there is no serious sin attached to taking or not taking the gene therapy shot. When we panicked over a pretend pandemic, it was always almost inevitable that God would give us a real one to sober our minds. The only actions God is punishing us for is abandoning him and building a new city of Babel in our own image. The purpose is not our destruction, but our reclamation – and the instrument of the lesson is not the point of it. Rather, God will give healing to all who call on Him and rely on Him. This, too, is a hard saying: many are so lost in their hubris that if God came down visibly with all His mighty power and offered them redemption, they would not take it. “The dwarfs are for the dwarfs,” and many will perish because of it.

As I advise you to get serious about prudent preparation without being vested in them, I remind you that the only preparation I take is to carry a prepared backpack and hiking boots with me wherever I go. I am far more radical in my reliance than I let even my closest friends know. In a few weeks I will hit the road again. The temptation is great to stock up on many things…but I will only take the provisions and supplies I normally do. I remain convinced, without tangible evidence, that it pleases God to renew the face and faith of the world from Mt. Meeker – and so being true to that conviction, I am convinced that even if I go into exile for a time, that is all it is, exile that will cease at God’s appointed time.

I close with three bits of counsel that will make your burden light when things get even darker. They are simple, but not easy. You must bridle your tongue and discipline your heart to live them effectively.

  • Do not be deceived that God has abandoned you as the fiery trial gets hotter. Rather, God is inviting you to abandon yourself to Him. It is the only place of real safety in the universe. Keep your eyes on Jesus while steadfastly doing the little you can without giving counsel to your fears.
  • Live a full unity of mind and purpose before God. Live so that, even when you misspeak or err, those around you have confidence that your yes means yes and your no means no.
  • Acknowledge God, take the next right step, and be a sign of hope to those around you. I hope the deepening crisis around us is helping you to see the depth of this simple counsel. Living it well and fully will carry you through all storms.

  1. Amen, Charlie. The fiery trial is surely here with great tests of faith for all.

Dynamic writing! Primo links. Thank you for reiterating your “first things.” They are excellent norms to employ, including when we vet videos and written pieces to share.

Love this: ”Though the devil is doomed this time, he is using the current swirling chaos to, in effect, test-market and refine gambits he will use at the actual end. This is, however, a double-edged sword. Mankind can use the devil’s efforts as an opportunity to understand its own weakness and what solidifies holding fast to Christ.” Gosh, yes. It brings to mind another verse from I Peter, 5:10: “But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.”

Wondrous comfort and strengthening is imparted in your counsel on how to self-check and tune up our mindset for what is now upon us. Honestly, this is a piece to copy and then highlight lines -wisdom gems and wise advice – in different colors, then, keep the copy next to our reading /pondering place so we may pick it up and choose a bit of wisdom- counsel into which we could pray, seeking the grace to grow in virtue and, ultimately in deeper union with the ONE who loooongs for union with us on THIS side of the veil.

Oh the children who are caught up in this madness need our united prayers for their protection from the dangers of the “vaccine.”

And THIS: “In the larger perspective, I have always said that I believe God intends to strip us of all that we rely on for security above Him. But I have also always said that it is to restore us to right reason under Him, not to destroy us.”

Yes, the fiery trial is here, but be not afraid. “And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.” (Zechariah 13:9)

Off to grab a handful of highlighters now.

  3. Thank you Charlie for this piece. I was just at Adoration today looking for some guidance and you hit on what I needed to hear. Since the night of my mom’s funeral 2 weeks ago I’ve had a strong sense something big is coming. It’s been weighing so much on my mind. The last 2 days I keep hearing others say the same thing. I get frustrated with myself because I’m not out doing more but I’m starting to accept that God has a different path for me. Some people are called to be leaders and gathering the flock while others, like myself, are spreading the ripple affect in smaller ways through individual interactions. Blessings and prayers for you as you hit the road.

    3. Aukst, I like what you said here, “Some people are called to be leaders and gathering the flock while others, like myself, are spreading the ripple affect in smaller ways through individual interactions.” I used to worry that I’m not doing enough either, but I had to let that go, so now I just take each step as it comes and trust that God will show me when and where he needs me the most.

Prayers for the repose of you mother’s soul, and that your guardian angel will guide you in doing God’s will.

  4. Wow, you talk about meaty. This is a 5 course meal. I agree with Beckita, print, highlight and keep handy. Thanks to for the updates on Australia and Western Europe, they slipped my mind as I am focused on Afghanistan. The photo of the chinook and the embassy in Afghanistan reminded me of Vietnam. A very close friend and commander of mine was one of the last Americans out of Vietnam, riding the skids of a Huey off the embassy roof in Saigon. I also met a Vietnamese lady working at the local VA hospital, who remembers that day well. She flew off the roof of the embassy in Saigon in a Huey. Such a small world. 1. Oops, the joke is on me. Charlie is never wrong, but I thought I caught at least a typo. “I generally respond that we are like a football field implanted with mines every ten feet on both axes.” Axes? Axes? Yep, the plural of axis IS axes. Once again, Charlie wins! Poor souls will have to wait.

      1. Alas, sometimes I am, Nance! But that is a gift, too. Some members of my family and friends absolutely delight in those instances where they were right and I was wrong – so it is a win-win situation for me: when I am right it is designed to hearten the faithful and when I am wrong it heartens those faithful who are dearest to me. Even so, I am saying a quick prayer for the pour souls who were deprived in this instance!

  5. Charlie wisely wrote: “If people could just see the events of our lives as one great training ground, seeing our many stumbles and weaknesses as the price fortitude exacts as prelude to success, we would not despair so easily.” So true, but this thought applies directly only to those of us who yet survive, to fight on for what is moral and even noble– but not to the Americans and allies (former allies) now hostage in Afghanistan who are sure to be tortured and killed, with their blood on the hands of the current Demorat Administration, with complicity by the Sec Def (and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff), and Sec of State. The continuation of life’s “training” for these souls was just too inconvenient for Biden as he sought public praise for a rapid exit, even though totally stupid and really treasonous.

    1. Exactly, looks like Biden for the 20th anniversary of 9/11 likely wanted to brag about the full withdrawal of U.S. troops ahead, and instead the outcome might be more disastrous than 9/11 itself in death toll even of U.S. citizens alone, not to mention the ongoing mass executions of the Afghans. Yet he is in the mood to joke about Afghanistan.

    2. This evil goes much deeper then the current federal office occupants. A blatant act of treason and crime against humanity. I keep reminding myself that God, our Merciful God, is exposing to us [humanity] the depth of our evil – the cost of abandoning God.

Not feeling particularly well today. Would appreciate a prayer that I be united in His Will for me. Suffering is no surprise considering the state of things, just struggling to keep my mind focused on Him.

  6. Today, I was sent a mandatory survey to fill out regarding my vaccination status. Here in Galicia, Spain. (The way of St. James) the vaccination has reached 80%. I have ignored their calls to get vaccinated. Yesterday, they phoned me 4 times. Before that it was text messages. The government earlier in the year has made a law that they can fine those who don’t have a good reason to vaccinate. In my immediate circle of friends and family there hasn’t been a severe immediate reaction. I admit that I kind of wanted one, to help open the eyes of the consequences of this vaccine. It seems that unless a person personally knows someone with a serious reaction, the anecdote of this vaccine are exceptions to them. I am dreading the months ahead as we are entering fall and winter. I suspect that is when cases and sickness will arise. Whether people will attribute it to the vaccine, is to be seen.

After receiving the survey, which I suspect that eventually they will not allow me to work, I quickly search which européen country has the lowest vaccination rate (Bulgaria). I am wondering if I will need to make a quick escape there.

      1. Ha, Patrick! I just ordered a few pounds a couple of days ago, too. Thanks for sending me the link to that study that you found.

If you have time, I’d be interested in your opinion on the dandelion-leaf in vitro study to which I linked in another recent comment.

        Liked by 2 people

        1. I checked out the in vitro study. Looks favorable, Mick, that T. officinale inhibits the spike protein. (Interesting to test for retention of bio-availability using human saliva.)

Hooray for dandelions! T. officinale is very safe with only a minor concern with the high potassium content.

They suggested a dose of 4-10 g up to 3 times a day. Seems like a lot of dandelions are needed! 🙂 You know where to get the extract? What are some other uses for dandelion?

Note: They used a human embryonic stem cell line from France in this research. 🤔

So are there any in vivo studies planned?

          Liked by 2 people

          1. Thanks for checking it out, Patrick. Like you, I was horrified when I learned that the study was conducted using embryonic stem cells.

The leaf extract is available from Mountain Maus. For lots of good information about the other uses dandelion, read the article below the ordering information at this link:

            https://www.mountainmausremedies.com/dandelion-leaf-tincture/

Dandelion root is also medicinally useful, as are the flowers and stems.

A note: Although the Mountain Maus site says that pregnant and nursing women should avoid dandelion, all of my herbal books indicate that dandelion is safe during pregnancy and nursing. This, in fact, seems to be the general consensus among herbalists, as far as I can tell. Everyone, however, should do their own research and come to their own conclusions (I ain’t a doctor and don’t play one on TV). 🙂

The Nigella Sativa study is here:

This is a recent Pakistani study examining the treatment of COVID using honey 1gm/kg/day + nigella sativa (“black cumin” or “black seed”) 80mg/kg/day. This seed contains thymoquinone, zinc, vitamin C, quercetin, nigelledine, and alpha-hederin. Anitviral, antiinflammatory, and antioxidation. Good data, result is an improvement on mortality compared to controls and other effective drugs like ivermectin and HCQ. Looks like a good prophylaxis and cure. Remarkable how the components of these seeds mirror the more effective covid treatment protocols we’ve established. It’s like God…. somehow knew……😀

        2. Mick and Patrick, from which site do you order the black seeds (Nigella Sativa)? Can you direct me to it and more information on what to do with the seeds? Do you crush the seeds, buy the oil, etc.? Thank you!

          Liked by 2 people

          1. Audie, here are a couple of links for the seed:

            https://mountainroseherbs.com/black-seed

            https://www.starwest-botanicals.com/catalogsearch/result/?order=relevance&dir=desc&q=nigella+sativa

From what I have read, Nigella sativa should not be taken by women who are pregnant or nursing. For them, dandelion leaf would seem to be a better option.

Black seed can be used as an oil or as the actual seed which is ground or crushed or just plain chewed as needed. The oil can be a little pricey, but the seeds are dirt cheap. If I were to order the oil just for myself and for nobody else in my family, a 1.5-month supply would cost about $72 from Starwest Botanicals (it would cost more from, say, Vitacost.com). However, I just ordered a boatload of seed from Mountain Rose Herbs for $64; this will set my whole family up for well over a year, and probably longer.

If you decide to go with seed rather than oil, it would be much better to order whole seed rather than seed powder because the powder will lose its medicinality much faster than the seeds will (the powder will start degrading in a matter of weeks, whereas the whole seed will keep for months or possibly years).

            1. Thanks again, Mick. I just ordered a boatload myself. 🙂 Was wondering if this kind of information can be found at the CORAC site? Thanks.

    2. I love the Cukierski’s apostolate, and they have good products. That tincture price is awfully high, though. Here is a link to Mountain Maus Remedies, a good company with quality herbs and tinctures. Their 8-ounce bottle of Dandelion leaf tincture costs roughly the same as the Cukierskis’ 2-ounce bottle. The link:

      https://www.mountainmausremedies.com/dandelion-leaf-tincture/

For those interested, dandelion leaf tea would be a good alternative to the tincture. In fact, here is a link to a study in which a water extract (tea) of the dried leaves was effective in vitro against Covid spike proteins:

      https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.03.19.435959v1

Mountain Maus Remedies carries dried dandelion leaf for $11/pound for conventionally grown, and $15/pound for certified organic. A pound of dried leaf will make a whole bunch of tea for very little money. Or if you have dandelions growing in your yard or garden, you can just use those (as long as they haven’t been sprayed with pesticides). And who doesn’t love free stuff? 🙂

  10. Yes indeed Charlie, here in Chicago it appears we have the most deadly Covid variant known as CCS, Cardinal Cupich Strain. This strain is so infectious that many within the Archdiocese of Chicago won’t be able to work. Cardinal Cupich seems to be a very sly individual, of course not in the eyes of the Lord, but probably this is what he thinks of himself while looking in the mirror. This inner circle left wing political hack declared few days before the FDA approval of Covid experimental vaccines that should such an FDA approval take place, he will require all clergy and employees of the Archdiocese ( including myself ) to be vaccinated WITHOUT possibility for the exemption on the religious grounds, allowing mercifully five weeks for full vaccination. Also several days ago, Cardinal Cupich presiding over the funeral mass for murdered police officer Ella French, seeing that a known non Catholic lesbian, namely mayor of Chicago Lori Lightfoot, was sitting in the area where he would distribute the Holy Communion, he suddenly asked a priest to switch spots with him, craftily washing this sacrilege off of his hands. And yes, Lori Lightfoot received the Holy Communion, but perhaps she was unaware of what she was doing. This sneakiness of our cardinal, must have been one of the main traits of that twelfth apostle who betrayed Jesus. Cardinal Francis George pray for us.

  11. It’s soup!!! And it’s meaty soup at that!!!😂

I agree with you, Beckita, this is one to print and highlight over and over!

Funny thing… You would think this meaty soup would make me feel sad or scared, but in fact it has had the opposite affect on me, personally! 🤔

I sort of feel like we are in Gods army ready to help God free our friends and foe with not St Joan of Arc (although I do believe she is there from a heavenly stance)) at the front lines, but our own Charlie!!! Charge!!! 😂

The ambulances 🚑 are assembling and hopefully we will all have the courage to acknowledge God, take that next right step and be that sign of hope to all our fellows when the sky turns black from the storm that is Soon upon us!!!

I can’t help but feel exuberant with joy already knowing God is going to strip me of things I don’t need and my fellows too so He can renew the earth one last time…He will be our God and we will be His people, whatever side of the veil it most pleases Him we end up!

    Simply a win win situation!!!🥰🙏

God bless and protect you, Charlie and thank you for this great and meaty 🥣 soup!!!

One of my many favorites of This piece:

“I close with three bits of counsel that will make your burden light when things get even darker. They are simple, but not easy. You must bridle your tongue and discipline your heart to live them effectively.

Do not be deceived that God has abandoned you as the fiery trial gets hotter. Rather, God is inviting you to abandon yourself to Him. It is the only place of real safety in the universe. Keep your eyes on Jesus while steadfastly doing the little you can without giving counsel to your fears.
Live a full unity of mind and purpose before God. Live so that, even when you misspeak or err, those around you have confidence that your yes means yes and your no means no.
Acknowledge God, take the next right step, and be a sign of hope to those around you. I hope the deepening crisis around us is helping you to see the depth of this simple counsel. Living it well and fully will carry you through all storms.”

    1. Linda, like you, I SO appreciate Charlie’s way of expressing sobering truths. Such truth itself is calming amidst the swirl of chaos. He addresses a mindset which will serve us well as we each navigate the treacherous waters which are particular to each of us in our own locales. The Breath of God flows through the truth and counsel contained in this piece, so that we are settled and focused – IF we choose to embrace the wise exhortations given and ACT on them, not just treat this writing as admirable in its elegance of expression. And, as so many have already responded, this kind of meaty piece cannot be digested – with full spiritual and practical nutritional benefit – unless one revisits the ideas with the intent to live them. We are blessed!

I want to especially thank Jacquie from the national wellness team who kept a close watch on. Us.

I wrote a note. To her about some. Of the tidbits we. Learned. From this experience(sorry the. Keyboard is. Going crazy).

      Dearest Jacquie-

Thank you for helping my husband and I get through this Covid detour. Without your support of insisting we keep detailed vital records, monitoring our O2 levels, and checking our general overall well-being we were able to get to the other side. I am so very thankful for your checking on us daily during our sickness. In our CoRaC region we don’t have a wellness leader. It might be something to consider. In that way, if someone gets sick with covid in the region the leader or a regional team member could take on something like you did for us. Those first few days of attempting to figure out what to take and when to take it. was overwhelming. Boy, my head was so swimmy I couldn’t think straight.

This experience has shown me how important having on hand and ready to use are the tinctures(yes, get them made and pressed already!), oxygen meter, the thermometer, distilled water(who would have thought this was difficult to purchase), netti-pot, and Listerine. It also proved how important it is to have whatever protocol is going to be followed to be printed off and understood by all dependable participants. They just might have to be the. One taking care of. You. Having all the materials in a separate container to be pulled out in case symptoms show up would be a very good idea.

I think God used my husband and me as a trial run. The day the isatis tincture was needed was the day the symptoms really manifested. Thank you for teaching the tincture class. I hope others will be able to use this lesson and be prepared.

  13. Hello to all. It has been some time since my last comment! Please give me more info about Bishop McElroy. A priest friend of mine in San Diego says Bishop McElroy is not suggesting No Vaccine! No Eucharist! I am looking at articles as well and can’t find him leaning towards this. What am I missing?

    Liked by 3 people

    1. He is NOT currently requiring it. In an interview he did that I can’t locate right now, but read a few days ago, he said it would be required of all Catholic staff and ministers in his Diocese. He said in the same interview that he would not require it to attend Mass for now. So your Priest is right, but it does not address what I said, which is that he is not requiring it now, but left the door open for a future change.

Bishop McElroy may be the clumsiest sophist among American Bishops today. In his criticism of the Colorado Bishops providing religious exemption letters, he says that since the Vatican has declared the shots as morally acceptable, the Colorado Bishops are in error to oppose mandating it. But the same Vatican statement on the issue says it IS contrary to Catholic doctrine to mandate it. The Colorado Bishops are offering help for those who will not accept any mandated medical treatment, which IS entirely consistent with Catholic doctrine. Either McElroy did not read the entirety of the Vatican statement or he did and is spinning it. Further, he seems not to know that an informal statement from the Vatican, though it carries weight, does NOT rise to the level of settled Catholic doctrine. Worse, he argues against what the Colorado Bishops did NOT say – they never said that Covid shots are not morally licit – and ignores what they did say – that mandates in this situation are contrary to Catholic doctrine – which is consistent with the advisory from the Vatican.

Meantime, in his pastoral letter to San Diego Catholics, he does not grapple with the cascading problems identified by the VAERS system, the concerns raised by countless doctors and scientists (including the inventor of mRNA shots) about this shot; rather he just asserts that the shots are “safe and effective.” He concedes that some members of the Diocese have “heartfelt” concerns – but they are wrong. In short, his message could be condensed to, “You are sincere, but your fears are stupid and wrong. Now shut up and do what I say.”

I regard McElroy as the Eric Swalwell of American Bishops, an intellectual featherweight who likes to play at being smart and serious. You are right that he is not requiring it to attend Mass – just as I said in the article above. That may stand, but if it does, it will only be because the adverse events get so bad that even those officials who only have assertions, not facts, will no longer be able to deny the unfolding catastrophe. Paradoxically, if I am right about the catastrophe this shot will become, Bishop McElroy and his fellow travelers may well lighten up and go no further than they already have. If the significant problems with the shot become manageable, he probably WILL mandate it for Mass attendance – which will still be contrary to Catholic doctrine.

      1. If he does mandate here (S.D) I will really be between a rock and a hard place! Many others also! He will drive people to the SSPX, but at least we have the FSSP down south also. 14. “Let your yes be yes and your no be no” and “sly as serpents and gentle as doves.” Love it. Love it within the context of the Gospel, in consideration of timing, scenario, everything. Love it as a stand alone at face value with no context whatsoever other than Who delivered it for all times. The Word Himself.

Why do you speak in parables they asked Him. An honest question. Followed by a straightforward answer to help them on the Way of spirit overcoming heavy humanity. Later down the road, “See, now you are speaking plainly and without figures of speech,” evidence of that same humanity struggling with the idea of His impending death.

Metaphors and subtlety –– love it! But you are going to be hard pressed (at least with me anyway) to make a case for misdirection and gamesmanship, and I am giving it the widest possible latitude in my ponderings at present.

I’m also fond of having a dry sense of humor, though sometimes have to grin, laugh or simply say that I was joking in the awkward silence that follows. Yeah, that could have to do with timing, delivery, audience or whatnot, but could just as easily mean that I’m not all that funny sometimes.

    1. MP,
You remind me of my now deceased buddy who had a sly, dry wit. His puns were, quite frankly, stealth-bomber invisible to all but the most quick witted. He loved playing practical jokes but at times they had a mean streak about them.
I think high IQ people don’t get that it is the average IQ people who make up the majority of humanity and they may be a bit condescending towards them because they; “just don’t do stupid well”. My friend was easily frustrated by them and was quick-tempered towards their weaknesses. I would point out “his” weakness in not recognising that they too had a right to just be who they are and that he needed to support them for their strengths and not the weaknesses.
Jesus spoke to these mostly average intelle-gents directly and, to make a point that confounded the high IQ types, He spoke in parables. This was so the Spirit, who defines all “truth” could easily instruct the meek and humble but confound the worldly and wise. Those that sought truth from Jesus understood and were fed but those hypocrites who designed to fool our Lord to make Him stumble could only play the fool on themselves.
Nothing Jesus ever did or said was by accident and everything He did was to teach us about truth and the consequences of following it or denying it.

I’d even grin the first time or ten in an understanding way at any adverse reaction, not being of the type much concerned with being understood as with sharing something I value. A crumb of bread between beggars. Was never one for practical jokes, much less being called sly and mean. You’ve made your point –– repeatedly –– so let it rest. As far as I’m concerned, I seconded Charlie’s opinion and proved it out.

I guess my posts structure made it seem I was talking about you.
          I wasn’t.
My friends inability to live and let live was more of a lead into the parables and not directed at you or your wit. Your wit just reminded me of his, that is all.
The rest of my post was about the Scribes and Pharisees being called hypocrites by Jesus for trying to “out think God” which Charlie rales against all the time here. The parables are actually more about confounding the demons who cannot twist their meaning as easily as a direct quote. (We see this in the media all the time these days!)
I will try to be more precise in my postings here but it can be hard for me to decide if what I say will be missconstrude or not since I am not a professional writer so please read me with that in mind. I want to be charitable to all and that is my intention.

  17. I’ve read the post a couple of times since last night. First thing I noticed, the picture Charlie chose of the Angel….which one in Revelation?? Not quite sure.

I find myself over the last many years thinking that God chose me to be alive at this time in history for a reason. After reading this post and pondering all the things I’ve read and heard about Marian Apparitions, various messengers, Scripture, Saints, etc., I found myself waking this morning with the thought of not believing this is actually happening. All my mama ever told me, for so many years, is happening. I remember so well, as if it were yesterday….we were driving home from my grandmother’s house. Mom had just returned from a pilgrimage from Medjugorje. She had gone to visit my grandmother and tell her all that she experienced. On our way home, I remember telling mom, “I don’t want to die. I want to get married, I want a family.” I was probably 12-14 years old at the time. I am 48 now. I am married. I have 8 children. Just found out this week that I will be a grandmother. God has, in His mercy, allowed us more time. I really think the time is now up.

I would love to be wrong. Then again, I don’t want the world as it is for my children or grandchild.

I’m scared. Deep down I know I have no control. But that doesn’t stop me from trying to control, plan, rearrange. Knowing full well, that hole inside me is not being filled. That big GOD-SIZED hole within me. I know He knows that.

Praying for the grace to endure whatever He allows. I’m enduring things that I am finding shocking to the soul, but not surprising when I take the time to truly think. If that makes any sense at all.

    God help us!

    1. Thank you for this beautiful and authentic reflection, Becky. What you write has brought to mind how blessed we are to have been able to prepare for what is crumbling all around us. Just imagine how filled with fear are they who bought the lies and have been living by them. As difficult as the sorrows will be to process, I’m confident that the work of welcoming people back to God will far outweigh the sadness. We WILL be filled with joy for the privilege of tending to souls as they make their return to the One who loves them beyond all telling.

    1. Sorry, that is incorrect, Missy – though I have had dozens of people contact me with this stuff. The FDA HAS approved it. It is understandable why ordinary people would misunderstand the letter, as it is written in dense bureaucrateze. The formula HAS been approved – but will be marketed under a different name and can begin to be manufactured now. The existing formula is still okayed under emergency rules – though it is identical to the formula that has been approved for manufacture. The approved formula is approved for those 16 and older, though it can be used under emergency authorization for people 12-15.

I spent two terms as president of a large Chicago-area School Board. After I was first elected, knowing that many documents would require my signature, I quietly took the Superintendent aside and told him anything presented for my signature other than purely legal documents, must NOT be written in educationaleze, but in plain language, for I would not sign anything that made things murkier to the average person rather than clearer.

But this is the sort of detail I encourage people NOT to get caught up in. First, it is very easy to misunderstand government documents unless you have a lot of experience, because most are intentionally murky. Even then, you often need someone to walk you through it. But the fundamental thing is that our government has gone lawless. What difference does it make when they are exercising power they do not formally have how they do it? If it was a trick play by the FDA – or they just bypassed all the normal hurdles at all in order to enforce their will, what difference would it make? Do you really think that if you found a technical error in the way they are unlawfully determined to accomplish their will that they would suddenly become law-abiding and follow the very rules that they have been trampling at a fevered pace? This is a rabbit hole to get people distracted from the fundamental issues – which are on what basis do they have authority to trample ordinary standards of vetting, on what basis do they have authority to “fast-track” such a thing and force it on people, and why have they just ignored all the negative problems instead of dealing with them? This is an exercise in raw political power, and technicalities NEVER stop an aggressor from exercising that power, only widespread blunt resistance and then removing those aggressors from power.

      1. Yes, Charlie, I read it that way, too. I just kept following the trail…and there it was. Formula approved, under this name. And I also saw the list of “trials.” My sister signed up at the very beginning to be part of the trials.
        It takes your breath away.
Still, we can pray; God is in control.

      2. Sadly, I had already gone down the rabbit hole. I found Charlie’s description of the two identical formulas and then found that “they” are two legally distinct products based on their liability designations….Then again, sadly, my mind had jumped to hoping a three letter agency would suffer the fate of a famous gangster who was jailed for tax evasion instead of his more egregious crimes. Charlie, very sadly, I have to agree with you that I probably wasted too much time in that dang rabbit hole. 😦
Thank you for reminding me of the basic truth in the last sentence of your comment, “This is an exercise in raw political power,…”

        1. I am going to cover this in the survey piece, as well. The FDA letter was so murky with so much slight of hand involved that I think it was intended to draw people down rabbit holes – while helping Pfizer escape accountability.

      3. I understand Christine Grady Fauci is head of NIH bioethics and the NIH does drug testing for the FDA to approve a drug. Sounds like a conflict of interest? Wondering if this is correct info? As you say, Charlie– probably doesn’t matter– it all stinks, either way!

      1. Okay, Jen, you really got me here…gave me a moment of cognitive dissonance. I started looking at this quickly and was thinking, “Wow, this is really good stuff,” when halfway through it I realized, this is my stuff! A brother of mine did that to me once…I was in a very dark mood and he read me a passage that he found very consoling and thought might help. It really was. I was so impressed I asked what book that was in so I could buy a copy. He chuckled and told me it was from a private letter I had written him years earlier. While we were riding somewhere and chatting, a girlfriend of mine decades ago asked if something I had just said was Shakespeare. No, I told her, it’s Johnston – and we both started giggling.

It’s a funny thing, but when you write, you can’t see it as others do until after some time has passed. You just cast your bread on the water hoping it helps.

        1. This is funny, Charlie. It reminds me of something I read about one of my favorite spiritual writers – Caryll Houselander. During the Sacrament of Confession, she was asking the priest’s advice. He told her to read a pamphlet that she had written, not knowing she was the one in the confessional speaking to him!

I ask for prayers from all. We have a daughter who has joined our state national guard and is leaving mid October for basic training. I am afraid – and angered – about the ‘vaccine’ mandates. I’ve been doing lots of research, reading and listening to podcasts, and I don’t like what I’m seeing about the vaccine, in addition to moral considerations about possible use of aborted fetuses in the production/testing of the shots. I think it is OUTRIGHT TYRANNY that this is being mandated. I feel stuck. I’ve read that she *could maybe* get an exemption, but that there’s no guarantee it will be approved – and she may be penalized and treated as an outcast if she is able to avoid the shot. A part of me sees this as her battle, that she should be the one to jump through the hoops to try for the exemption (she has expressed that she does not want the shot), but I can’t see her doing this. (I bet they’re banking on people just giving in and getting the shot.) How much time and energy (with 8 children) can I put into this? I just don’t know. The following I know on an intellectual level, but am trying to truly own: “Jesus, I surrender myself to You; take care of everything.”
If anyone has any thoughts on this matter, I am open to suggestions.
          Thank you so much.
          In Christ,

          1. Thanks Melisa. Great story on Caryll Houselander! I had a similar experience in Seattle a few years back. I was walking to an appointment when a sort of street preacher foisted a pamphlet on me and told me I needed to read this: it would change my life. To my surprise, it was one of my columns – and he had a whole armful more. I started to tell him I was the author, but figured why interrupt the flow of his evangelization, so I just thanked him and walked on. Not sure I did the right thing there, but what the heck. There must be something about Seattle. David Daleiden told me that several years ago, he ended a speech in Seattle by saying that what we have to learn to do is to, “acknowledge God, take the next right step, and be a sign of hope.” He said after the speech a bunch of people quietly asked him if he read Charlie…so now, whenever he wants to gauge how many “Charlie people” are in a crowd, he adds that line.

Your daughter is young and still being formed, no doubt. Without trimming your sails, make sure to uphold her whatever she decides – knowing that recourse is to be found in God whatever happens with this shot. We cannot effectively stop people we love from doing it – particularly as they are getting so much contradictory and confusing advice (I think deliberately), but we CAN assure them with conviction and power of the true healing available from God for whatever this chaotic confusion brings.

          3. Melisa, I’ll offer some food for thought for you and many of us facing such challenges.
I helped students in a 2 – 2 1/2 year adult vocational academy program step out and back into their course of studies, as allowed by our state accreditation criteria. We did this while maintaining the terms of their student loans without penalty. After several years, I left this position with a 100% of the students that took a leave of absence, return to finish the program an graduate.
My niece who is a young adult has discerned to postpone beginning her teaching vocation after a long and hard fought road to graduation, despite being handed two ideal contracts, close to home. My sister supports her 100%. I share this only to say that taking a wait and see stance is another possibility.
I love options especially when we know we are taking a leap of faith from one way of living (old guard) to an era of peace. ❤

        2. Charlie, I think truth is from the Spirit and if one is in favor of it they receive its gifts- even we who are doing the telling!
Many a time when my brother and I are discussing spiritual things I say things I did not fully understand until that very moment. I believe when a person has an openness to God’s truth, that truth flows through them and will leave it’s impression on the vessel being used to deliver these truths. Many a saint given Doctor of the Church status had no formal education. It was the “mind of God” flowing through them, this “earthen vessel”, that gave what they “said” the title of Doctor of the Church. They themselves remained simple and holy but in this state of “weakness”(as the world perceives weakness) God is strong. Another example is the acknowledge power a priest is given when he is giving a sermon. It is no longer his voice but God’s voice we are hearing.

          1. I have to quibble a bit with you, here, Phillip. God gives the power to Priests to consecrate the host, but He does not guarantee that it His voice that takes over during the homily. We may discern the voice of God in the greatest and the smallest – and we can discern the voice of the devil in the same.

            1. My point was that priestly Ordination imprints on the soul an indelible character and confers a special Sacramental grace and this character is manifest especially in the Holy Mass where the homily is only allowed to be given by a priest or deacon. (Of course, he can deny this gift through sin and become the instrument of the enemy but that wasn’t my point.)
“The grace of Holy Orders is conferred that the priest may fulfill his sacred duties—–the act of Consecration, Sacramental absolution, *preaching*, spiritual direction—–with ever-increasing holiness: and so we speak of priestly love and priestly prudence. It is clear, therefore, that the modality of habitual grace, about which we have spoken, exercises an influence on the infused virtues, which flow from Sanctifying Grace.”
St. Thomas: “The Sacramental character is a sharing in Christ’s priesthood by His faithful . . . .”; also, in answer to the first objection: “Grace is present in the soul as a form complete in its being, whereas the character is there as an instrumental power. Now a complete form is present
in its subject according to the condition of that subject, so that grace is present in the soul of a person here on earth according to the volatile nature of the will. But an instrumental power is to be considered rather from the point of view of the condition of the principal agent; hence the character is indelibly present in the soul not because of any perfection of its own but because of the perfection belonging to Christ’s priesthood, from which the character originates as an instrumental power.” [IIIa, q. 63, a. 5c]

    1. Triumph can lead us to think we are the stuff, the titans – which is almost always prelude to a great fall. Disaster can lead us to despair, thinking we are incapable of even trying anything, thus paralyzing us. If we walk in complete and willing surrender to God, then whatever befalls us is in accord with God’s will and helps advance it. Triumph and disaster both tempt us to focus on ourselves and potent mastery or lack thereof instead of God’s will. It is the human emotions attached to each that pull us away from God. Jesus had the triumph of the Entry into Jerusalem one week and the disaster of trial and execution the next. I think, knowing how the disciples would respond, first with jubilation at the triumph – and then with despair and terror at the crucifixion, Jesus set up the time frame to underscore that it is not how things appear that is decisive, but how they advance God’s will.

When I was doing the big campaigns, just about two weeks before election I would find a quiet Church and pray carefully while living an examination of conscience. I did NOT pray for victory – but that I had done everything I reasonably could to put us in position to prevail. I did not look back seeking perfection – for perfection is often a timid beast that risks little to avoid marring its perfection. Rather, I looked to see if I had acted both boldly and prudently enough, if I had given enough room for human error to develop real talent along the way and whether I had inspired people to act on behalf of something greater than themselves. If I could answer with a substantial affirmative to these things, I was content with whatever the final result was, even if I didn’t like it. If I could not answer all in the affirmative, I was not content even when the final result was victory.

Larger politics is an emotional business – and I used to tell staffers, particularly younger ones, that the work is the only thing to worry about. Triumph can delude you into thinking you are the titan and pull you away from the work – and disaster can make you think you are a total failure – also pulling you away from the work. I would emphasize that, in moments of triumph, you are not as good as you think you are and in moments of disaster, you are not as bad as you think you are. Focus on the work at all times – and all will be well.

So to my mind, though I gladly celebrate and mourn for a bit with teams when appropriate, I am always aware of the danger, the siren song of both triumph and disaster, which are equally efforts to pull you away from what counts: God – whose service is the only work worth having.

    1. Speaking of hiking boots, I’d like to ask for some advice from all here. My oldest son bought some Keens a couple of months ago. They were pricey, yet they started to tear up in about 3 weeks. Has anybody else had such an issue with Keens? Are there other hiking boots that will last like the ones Charlie wore on his pilgrimage?

      Like

      1. Mick two of my kids and I have Keens for several years now and no problems. In fact we just returned from hiking the White Mountains.

I would contact them directly–that is not okay that the stitching is breaking like that. So several of us have wide feet and the Keens are just lovely for peeps with wide feet—the toe box has enough room. I also have a pair of Keen water/all purpose sandals that I love (new this year).

I hope you get a good resolution and/or find another boot that holds up like they should.

  20. “Except for the use of aborted fetal stem cells in the development of the gene therapy shots, there is no sin attached to getting the shot. ”

This reminds me of “Well, other than THAT, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?”

I am appalled. I hope I have misunderstood you.

One of the things ee have learned thanks to David Daleiden and his group is that the entire medical research industry has become hugely dependent on fetal tissue and organs “harvested” from aborted-alive babies. As Bishop Strickland, Bishop Schneider, and Archbishop Viganò have all pointed out, these Covid “vaccines” further entrench and empower the ghoulish fetal-harvesting industry.

As Ann Barnhardt has pointed out, Satan is gunning to get every human being on earth complicit in baby-killing. With the rapid, nearly total global reach of these death jabs, Satan is cackling with delight.

    1. You bring up a good point, tensor. I think you are fairly new here so you probably do not know that I have long fought against the use of aborted stem cells in the development of vaccines, or that David Daleiden is one of my closest friends and that I have been collaborating with him for over six years now, or that I am a sporadic consultant to Texas Right to Life and close crony to its president, Jim Graham. For this business, I focus on what is DIFFERENT about this shot from other vaccines – and sorrowfully, for over a generation almost all vaccines in America have used fetal stem cells. I think that I am going to address this point more fully in a survey column (one that skims over several different subjects) in a few days. Thanks for bringing it up.

  22. I some sense, I wonder if one couldn’t find themselves in a place where one’s attachment and somewhat obsession with the question of “vaccines” would lead to a place where it is a detriment to simply acknowledging God, taking the next right step, and being a sign of hope to others?

Obviously, these are important questions and medical discussions that should be had, but we can still become attached to them and begin to give into our pride that we could even possibly figure out all the answers; that is something that someone ought to be aware of in their own personal daily discernment of what God is calling them to. When it comes to these new medical treatments, we just don’t yet have full answers yet, and we will never have perfect knowledge. (We do have large datasets after having given out several hundred million of these shots, that’s for sure.) Give it 5-10 years and we will have a better idea.

Obviously, if our distress over this is causing us to live in fear, unrest, anxiety, etc, that is not of God. That doesn’t mean we “roll over” and do whatever one tells us that we aren’t comfortable with. Rather, it means we need to go to God in prayer more and allow Him to speak Truth into our fears, unrest, and anxiety. That is where the fortitude and zeal will ultimately come from to speak out in truth and love, and not out of fear and anxiety.
(Note: this is not directed towards anyone in specific at all. Just a general reflection.)

Obviously, as you’ve reflected on, that doesn’t mean we stop seeking the truth or fall into a deep skepticism, but rather we seek the truth in humble boldness willing to admit when we end up being wrong.

Ha, my hubby once had the occasional responsibility to repo cars donned in bulletproof attire, when warranted, for a private investigator.
When we dated, I got to join him on a couple of occasions on these assignments. He has shoulder length blonde curly hair and and look a lot like Saint Micheal the Archangel as portrayed in art, strong and fearless. Yet each time he drives into Chicago, he white knuckles it and shakes like a leaf. It’s true. So I fill in when I can. ❤

        1. Well, the population of the the city of Cleveland is 372,000 and the population of the city of Chicago is 2.75 million so you have that. The full metro area of Cleveland is just over 2 million while the full Chicago metro area is 9.5 million – so you have a lot more room for mischief in Chicago than you do in Cleveland.

      1. And oh! How blessed we were with President Trump and how God answered our prayers by allowing Trump to rally so many and make the changes he and his administration did. When I consider the kinds of legislation Trump and Team got through, I think of the dynamism between the temporal world and the spiritual world in which we live and move and have our being in Christ. What leadership does in a country draws down blessings or curses upon it in the integrated temporal and spiritual realms.

Case in point: I remember the Democratic National Convention proceedings which were televised in which the body gathered and voted, not once but three times, to take the name of God out of their platform. What a curse! Now, there was a heated discussion and new vote taken, yet “…when convention chairman Antonio Villaraigosa gaveled in day two of the Democratic Convention, the hall burst into chaos as Democrats voted to amend their party’s platform to include the word ‘God’ and name Jerusalem as the capital of Israel….” It wasn’t so clear that the majority of party members actually wanted to reverse their previous decision. Rather, it looked like they revealed their collective heart in the original decision to remove the Lord’s Name and then certain lead members saw the political fallout coming, so pushed to reverse the decision with loud boos erupting in the convention center. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/OTUS/democrats-rapidly-revise-platform-include-god/story?id=17164108

Fast forward to the massive fraud in the 2020 election wherein leadership in our government was usurped by evil forces. The vast majority of Americans revealed a dimension of their own hearts by voting to continue with a President who supports a culture of life and oh, I believe, what a blessing we brought down upon this land! Still, the rot is wide and deep in our country… and around the world. It can’t be ignored. Too, this Storm is about acknowledging God so completely that we rely on Him in everything… absolutely everything, even as we take responsibility for exerting our free will in our next right steps. So, only God knows how many who voted for Trump who ALSO place God at the center of their very being and kneel before Him in their hearts… not just lip service, but an honoring of the Covenant which He made with us. Even while only God knows every heart, I have been pondering how Trump couldn’t remain because God is after the gold in each one of us, cleansing and refining us, removing man-made barriers preventing us from more complete union with Him, so that each heart becomes a tabernacle where the Indwelling of the Holy Trinity has a fitting Home in which He loves us, guides us and inspires us to co-create with Him from a purity of heart that impels us to thoughts, words and deeds which reflect that we truly love Him. John 14:15: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”

It’s simply not in the history/psyche of the Chinese to send military troops on foreign soil to invade a country. I’m grateful for that, but potential treachery remains. I can only imagine the ways of invading the US with controlling forces to cause damage with hopes of destruction without ever sending a military soldier to do the work.

A Letter of Gratitude from Cardinal Burke

    on Aug 28, 2021

    Praised be Jesus Christ!

In the Sacred Heart of Jesus and through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I express deep gratitude to God, who has brought me to this point of healing and recovery. As previously communicated by the leadership and staff of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, for whom I also express my profound appreciation, I am no longer intubated with a medical ventilator. I have been transferred out of the Medical Intensive Care Unit and settled in a hospital room where the doctors, nurses, and numerous hospital staff have provided vigilant, superb, and steadfast medical care. For these dedicated professionals, too, I offer heartfelt thanks, as well as to the priests who have ministered to me sacramentally. To those who have offered innumerable Rosaries and prayers, lighted candles, and requested the offering of the Holy Mass, I extend my sincere gratitude, and I ask the Lord and His Mother to bless you all. I also thank my brother bishops and priests who have offered Mass for me or prayed for me at the altar.

This generous outpouring of grace unites me to you in a special way, as I am also particularly united to all victims suffering from the effects of the COVID-19 virus. With all my heart, I express to you my wish that I could respond to every phone call, text message, and email. However, due to the intensive rehabilitation that I will soon begin, providing a response beyond these universal letters will not be possible. In your charity, I know you will understand this circumstance and accept that I must preserve my energy so that I can recover my health and strength. Hospital regulations limit visitors to immediate family members. During the forthcoming extended period of convalescence, it is my intention to provide only occasional updates when there is something significant to share with you.

The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe has accepted the necessary and crucial role of direct communication, on my behalf. Again, in your kindness, may I ask that you direct all of your communication to me through the Shrine’s website, at GuadalupeShrine.org/MessageCardinalBurke.

Of late, I have been reminded of the motto that I took when I was selected for the episcopacy: “Secundum Cor Tuum” (According to Your Heart). All things ordered in and through the Divine Will have as their origin the Sacred Heart of Our Savior, whose fundamental motivation is His Eternal Love for His Father and for His children. Since Divine Providence has governed that I remain hospitalized for the present, I now reaffirm that same episcopal conviction: suffering, united with the suffering of Jesus Christ, is truly efficacious in His Divine Plan for our salvation when accepted willingly and wholeheartedly. Saint Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, teaches us the meaning of our suffering: “Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the Church” (Col 1:24).

United with Jesus Christ, Priest and Victim, I offer all that I suffer for the Church and for the world. Asking God’s blessing upon you and your family, and confiding your intentions to the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Saint Juan Diego, Saint Michael the Archangel, Saint Joseph, Saints Peter and Paul, and your holy patron saints, I remain

Yours in the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and in the Purest Heart of Saint Joseph

  28. Great news! I got the ChinaVirus!

My friend Jess, a Physician Assistant student, came down with symptoms a few hours after I saw her last Monday. Fever broke Friday. She’s fully recovered.

I then got word that the young Dr Travis (another member of CORAC) also just recovered from the virus. Jessie had positive swabs and treated with Ivermectin. Travis had negative tests including the “garbage” PCR test, but has little doubt that covid is what he contracted. He treated with VitC/D and zinc. This bug is not a concern for the young and healthy.

This is the first viral infection I’ve had in 15 MONTHS, which is remarkable considering my extensive and very public travel to 11 states last year and the scores of covid-positive patients I’ve treated.

I’m certain I’ve contracted covid previously despite two negative tests in 2020. (Note: I will never submit to a swab again.) Today, my symptoms are quite mild and likely the result of one of the variants – (thank you experimental mRNA drugs). In order of severity: myalgia, pleuritic (chest wall) pain, headache, scratchy throat, fatigue, upper airway cough, and this morning a little post-nasal drip. Again, symptoms are fairly mild, like a nuisance. I have no GI issues or fever. My black seed hasn’t arrived yet so treatment is Vit C/D, zinc, water, and rest.

Curious: upper respiratory viral infections are spreading in the middle of summer when vitamin D levels in the population are at their highest (observation by Dr. Peter McCullough).

The Rapid City area is having pockets of small outbreaks, like 5 employees last weekend at Ruby Tuesday, but generally the attitude is one of virtually no concern among those I have spoken with. There are no mask mandates or lock downs (yet) — people act as if it’s like the common cold. I imagine similar spread is occurring across the country.

Today I’m asking for prayers: For those in the path of Hurricaine Ida!
(I, myself, will be just fine in a couple more days!)

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

His Excellency, The Most Reverend Peter Muhich.

    https://www.rapidcitydiocese.org/bishop-peter-muhich/

Last Sunday I attended the Sacrament of Confirmation at Immaculate Conception Church in Rapid City. Twelve people were confirmed, including Dr. Travis’ pregnant wife.

This is the Latin Mass parish.

What’s remarkable is that, for the first time in ages, a bishop attended the Latin Mass. Previously, confirmants from ICC would have to go to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help for this sacrament. In a show of support, the Bishop did the honor of coming to this little church, the original cathedral of Rapid City.

The ceremony was interesting. The Blessed Sacrament was removed from the tabernacle and a small stool with a white cushion was place on the altar steps facing the congregation. Confirmation commensed immediately, with the church bells ringing throughout. He annointed each candidate and gave the gentle slap on the cheek. Afterward, the Blessed Sacrament was returned and then he, of course, remained for the celebration of the Mass. Two hours long.

Again, this was a rare occurrence. Other bishops would support the parish, but would not participate in the Mass. Bishop Muhich is boldly showing support for the Latin Mass in light of the attacks from the Vatican. And he remained for the entire feast afterward. Eventually, he worked his way to my table and said to me, “I see they’ve put you back here by the bathrooms.” The guys at the table stood up as we chatted with him. He’s bright-eyed, engaging, personable, sincere, and an outspoken conservative. He shrugged at the notion that he did something special by coming to ICC for confirmation, stating that it is simply his responsibility as bishop to perform this sacrament, his eyes twinkling.

We’ve got an excellent pair of shepherds here in South Dakota. Bishop Muhich and Bishop Donald E. DeGrood of the Sioux Falls Diocese co-wrote a statement regarding immunizations:

    1. Patrick,
With the rise of Covid here in Florida they have set up locations to recieve the Monoclonal antibody treatment.
Seems to be effective for those I know who have taken it.
Almost everyone I know who did not get Covid over the winter is getting it now. Still fairly inert for children but some adults have had long periods of fever and nausea with this cycle.
I spent a week tileing a house where two people were sick with Covid. I felt a bit uncomfortable the following week, just minor things this day or the next but nothing ever manifested and I never stopped working. Having had it back in February I figure my immunity was capable of handling this varient and apparently it has. My hope is that I will do well with any other varient that may come.

Now I’m even more certain that I’ve got it.

Had a low grade fever for about 5 hours this afternoon, which has broken rather quickly. Myalgia and HA are resolved, but now a little intermittent abdominal cramping and mild “D” have set in, probably just clearing the viral debris.

At this writing, I feel near 80% of full strength. A speedy and hearty resolution was my intention today saying the Prayer of Miraculous Trust!

      2. Somebody please correct me if I’m wrong, but I read on Spirit Daily that the monoclonal antibody treatment is tied to the abortion industry somehow. I don’t have time to research it; but if true, how sad would it be that all of the vaccines and one of the most effective Covid treatments were all possible only because of the murder of unborn babies?

We had a local CORAC lunch on Friday. One of the attendees had Covid way back, and she has since been regularly donating blood so that the antibodies (in the plasma, I think?) could be used to help Covid patients. Well, she said that the place where she has been donating is no longer taking donations for the purpose of getting Covid antibodies. My understanding is that with the rise of the monoclonal antibody treatment, the treatment with natural antibodies is falling by the wayside. Has anybody else heard anything along these lines?

    1. There are no words to express the gratitude I feel for all the love you’ve shown me, and prayers said.I feel I do owe all a short explanation. I was in unbearable pain, couldn’t turn my head, or use my right arm. Due to all your prayers I was able to get an emergency Dr. apt. the next day. A Cat scan was ordered, and a neurologist will see me. But, the apts. won’t be until the end of Sept. I am praying that at that time the neurologist will surgically implant a titanium disc, that will relieve me of the pain. Until then I will continue to not bend my head down, which has kept me from blogging for years. Miraculously around midnight I was “pain free”, which lasted all night and the next day. All is back to normal now, sit, pain and pray , pray, pray. Will keep you updated if I am lucky to get cervical surgery. Thank you all again from the bottom of my heart.

Now Dr. Robert Young has done his own research, slides and all proving this the case.

    1. PattyAmi, thank you for posting this material. I have been trying to figure out whether the news about graphene oxide in the vaxxxines was an element of truth or if it was misinformation or even disinformation deliberately spread to confuse and discredit those who would analyze the vaxxxines after they were released into the world. The Peters interview with Kingston is the first time I have seen someone with a credible discussion of the *reason(s)* why GO might be included.

The article by Dr Young is an example of what I have seen and to some extent distrusted. Anyone can make up pictures. Those behind the vaxxxines have very good reason to sow information like the stuff Young puts out to seed the news for later exposure as fake to discredit *all* analyses of the vaxxxines by outsiders. Were they putting out this GO information for nefarious purposes? I could not tell up until now. I do want to add that I am *not* saying Dr Young’s paper is fake. Not at all. I am saying I personally cannot tell whether papers like this are true or fake. Having listened to the Kingston article, I am more inclined to believe folks like Dr Young are indeed doing credible analyses and finding actual items in the vaxxxines.

The Kingston interview *could* still be disinformation, but she at least has a reason for GO’s inclusion that I find at least somewhat plausible. The rest of her material was also interesting, and she is obviously thorough in her research.

I’m not yet fully on-board with this, but Kingston makes a credible case for why it may be true and not either fake or simply photos of manufacturing impurities mistaken for GO. So I thank you for passing that URL along.
