On Viruses and Covid-19

A few days ago several people in our community asked me in the comments area if I could write up my thoughts on how to treat the Covid-19 disease. I had already written a small book on the subject, which I have distributed to several family members and friends over the past few weeks. I admit I had not seriously considered making it publicly available. I must admit I feel a bit of trepidation taking this step to publish to a much larger audience.

In contemplating preparing the book for publication on this website, I realized that I wanted to rewrite it because I had learned enough to be able to recast my book in a more positive way. This is a scary subject, but I believe that much good is ultimately going to come of this current challenge.

The book clocks in at about 70 pages, so it may seem intimidating. However, I believe it covers a lot of ground in a way you will find both engaging and relatively easy to understand.

When people asked me if I would post something, I asked Charlie if he would be OK with me publishing this book on his web site. I thank him deeply for his reply, which was positive and profoundly generous.

I have placed the PDF of my book into A Sign of Hope’s media library. I’ve provided in the Sidebar the link you can use, if desired, to open the book in your browser and save it to your computer. To find the book in the Sidebar, click on the “Menu” button in the upper right corner, then scroll down to the “BOOKS” section. Look for the “On Viruses and Covid19 (Stephen Baker v200529)” line and click on that link to open the book in a new tab in your browser window. If you first hover over the book link, you will get a pop-up window that has the actual title and version number. Or you can click this link to open it directly: On Viruses and Covid-19.

Do keep track of the version number. If I decide later that I need to update the book with a significant change, I’ll post a new version with a new version number.

I don’t really know how to enable any reader to give me feedback about the book after reading it. I guess at this point that the best way is simply to place your feedback into comments on this site on any post. I will do my best to respond to everyone’s comment, and I hope not to miss any.

May this book bring both clarity and optimism to all who read it.

    1. I wish to add my congratulations to Steve for this magnificent compendium, which is at once both technically informative, but also readable by everyone.

I wish also to address here the latest outrageous “scientific” publication of research on the effectiveness of the hydroxychloroqune (hydroxy) based treament, which our mass media immediatly seized on to declare it and Trump a fraud. This study is heralded as the first with a true control group and a substantial sample size.

Here is a summary of the study in its own words:

      Interventions:
Hydroxychloroquine at a dose of 600 mg/day within 48 hours of admission to hospital (treatment group) versus standard care without hydroxychloroquine (control group).

      Main outcome measures:

The primary outcome was survival without transfer to the intensive care unit at day 21. Secondary outcomes were overall survival, survival without acute respiratory distress syndrome, weaning from oxygen, and discharge from hospital to home or rehabilitation (all at day 21). Analyses were adjusted for confounding factors by inverse probability of treatment weighting.
Results In the main analysis, 84 patients who received hydroxychloroquine within 48 hours of admission to hospital (treatment group) were compared with 89 patients who did not receive hydroxychloroquine (control group). Eight additional patients received hydroxychloroquine more than 48 hours after admission. In the weighted analyses, the survival rate without transfer to the intensive care unit at day 21 was 76% in the treatment group and 75% in the control group (weighted hazard ratio 0.9, 95% confidence interval 0.4 to 2.1). Overall survival at day 21 was 89% in the treatment group and 91% in the control group (1.2, 0.4 to 3.3). Survival without acute respiratory distress syndrome at day 21 was 69% in the treatment group compared with 74% in the control group (1.3, 0.7 to 2.6). At day 21, 82% of patients in the treatment group had been weaned from oxygen compared with 76% in the control group (weighted risk ratio 1.1, 95% confidence interval 0.9 to 1.3). Eight patients in the treatment group (10%) experienced electrocardiographic modifications that required discontinuation of treatment.

      Conclusions:

Hydroxychloroquine has received worldwide attention as a potential treatment for covid-19 because of positive results from small studies. However, the results of this study do not support its use in patients admitted to hospital with covid-19 who require oxygen.”

Well, my analysis of this research is simply, “Quack, Quack.

Let’s examine the treatment in detail with a full quote:

      “Treatment strategies
We compared two treatment strategies: starting hydroxychloroquine at a dose of 600 mg/day (treatment group) and no hydroxychloroquine treatment (control group). The dose was chosen after publication of the first study on hydroxychloroquine for treating covid-19.4 Patients in the treatment group could start treatment within a grace period of 48 hours after admission. The decision of whether or not to treat patients with hydroxychloroquine was based on local medical consensus and the clinicians’ own opinion of its effectiveness. The decision was made before patients were admitted to hospital and so their characteristics played no part. Supplementary data 1 provides additional information about the number of patients in each group in each hospital.”

See anything missing here? Consider that the hydroxy is used for two main effects. First, to reduce excessive respiratory system inflammation that unchecked blocks breathing and oxygen intake. Second, to enable greater cell absorption of zinc, because the zinc inhibits viral reproduction. BUT, no zinc was administered for the hydroxy treatment, substantially reducing its utility for killing the underlying viral infection. Likewise, the standard hydroxy treatment also includes an anti-bacterial drug, but none was used.

What are we to conclude? From this lengthy list of 34 experts, did not even one know that the hydroxy treatment being recommended by regular doctors with real patients is NOT hydrorxy by itself, but a combination of the hydroxy with zinc and an antibiotic? I conclude that I am sadly disappointed with such “scientific” research as being designed for mischief, not the public good. Personal profit seems more likely. Shame on these experts and shame on the BMJ.

      1. Thank you, Jack. I appreciate your compliment.

You are absolutely correct that many research studies on HCQ have deliberately sandbagged the drug. Recently, I saw CNN has been attempting to sandbag Vitamin D3 supplementation as terribly dangerous, when in fact D3 levels are the preventative *key* to fighting off the virus. Just another way to keep a key item out of people’s repertoire of treatments. It’s deliberate.

Interestingly, I have seen what appears to be good information that says that, insofar as Covid-19 is concerned, the principal if not only real advantage of HCQ is as a zinc ionophore. If true, and the data seems to show it is, then a zinc ionophore like Quercetin, which is non-toxic and available over the counter as a supplement, may be about as good as HCQ for Covid-19.

This is big news for us and will be incorporated in any next revision of my book. Meanwhile, taking Quercetin Phytosome (Thorne Research) may very well mean someone will not need to take HCQ for Covid-19. Cool!

        Liked by 1 person

          1. Kim, Quercetin is a zinc ionophore among its other effects. (It helps against allergies and many other things.) As a zinc ionophore, it shuttles a higher than normal amount of zinc into your cells. When you are infected by a cold or SARS-CoV-2 or many other viruses, they get into your cells and hijack the cell machinery to make lots of copies of itself. The zinc ions in your cell attach to the protease the virus needs to replicate, which shuts down viral replication. You need a lot of zinc ions in your cells to fight off colds and flus and SARS-CoV-2.

Therefore, to fight a viral infection, you need to maintain a high level of zinc ions in all your cells, and Quercetin will do that without toxic side effects. So, yes, you want to take at least 500 mg of Quercetin a day (use Quercetin Phytosome for best absorption) AND 30 mg of zinc a day. That way, you are always protected and most likely to fight off any viral infection you may be exposed to in daily life.

Both of these are needed in order to obtain the desired effect, and both should be taken regularly. 🙂

  1. This explains a lot and also brings me hope for future treatments. I am a nursing assistant and contracted this nasty disease in March (most likely from work). I’m still not back to normal especially my lungs and I’m starting to think this may be my new normal. Just like Charlie, I knew in my heart part of my body wouldn’t make it through this storm intact, but didn’t realize it’d be something as crucial as my lungs! I am a college senior (God willing I’ll finish nursing school in December) and I could be the poster child for unhealthy eating so that could be why I’m struggling so much. The only thing left unanswered for me is the GI effects I’ve seen and experienced. If the individual is having nausea or diarrhea and due to the virus temporarily loses the desire for sustenance and isn’t hungry or thirsty for days…especially in geriatrics it’s devastating. We can push fluids and give IVs but it’s heartbreaking to try everything and lose so many both during the acute phase of the illness and in the following weeks as well. I am continually seeking knowledge of this disease to help not just myself but my much-beloved work family and my future patients. I prayed for guidance about this virus and God answered me! Thank you so much for helping me understand what’s happening.

    2. Krystle, I’m so sorry to hear of your experience. As my book recommends, I suggest if you can get to an HBOT clinic and do a few weeks of therapy sessions, you may find some relief. Certainly if you are holding immune-escaped virus colonies in any of your tissues, that will kill them off. At that point you may be able to heal a little more. Prayers for you. 🙂

Yes.  That makes sense.  What surprised me was the USCCB response.  If this is the core of their message,  I think they missed a greater point almost completely.  I am confident there will be justice with the police officers.  However, their response in regards to protests appears tepid based on this article.  This is clearly orchestrated evil.  The devil wants us to destroy each other as well as racism is a two way street.  It’ not about universal brotherhood or diversity.  That does not unify squat.  Our hearts need enlightened unto salvation with the saving grace of Jesus Christ.  It is then we can see the true dignity of all people across all racial and ethnic bounds.—- Sent from Doug’s Back Pack

                3. Yes, it is orchestrated. Even some liberal politicians in the states and cities are saying that. In addition, our local conservative TV station said that Senator Cruz announced that intelligence agencies picked up talk from foreign entities about participating in violence. One of the state’s reported (Fox) hearing Arabic at a violent protest. Of course we can count on the Antifa goons. I hope the President follows through on classifying them as a domestic terrorist group. Only God fully knows what’s going on!

A Chinese transformer weighing more than 500,000 pounds arrived by ship at the Port of Houston last summer, en route to an electrical substation in Colorado that funnels electricity to Denver. Mike Howard, chief executive of the Electric Power Research Institute, a utility-funded technical organization, said that the diversion of a huge, expensive transformer is so unusual—in his experience, unprecedented—that it suggests officials had significant security concerns.

Kim, we agree that this violence does have the stench of orchestration. Why would a dozen peaceful marchers suddenly be surrounded by arsonists and looters? Of course, the media is part and parcel of the problem..12 folks standing in front of the White House described was a “huge crowd.” The huge crowd was mostly news reporters.
SteveBC, I thank you for your publication. We are already taking most of the vitamins and minerals you describe and try to limit our tasty junk foods. For a couple of old folks (we are your peers) we are doing pretty good. In fact, our whole village out here in the wilds of Oregon is healthy. All 10k of us…🤷🏼‍♀️ Perhaps it was the bad cold that affected almost the whole town back in January? Be that is it may, the hospital is well-staffed, well-stocked and empty! One doc and one RN have taken off for New York where they hope to help.
As always, everyone here is in my daily prayers.

I have bought books on various alternative health-care modalities, gardening, and other important skills, as well as many classic works of literature (Louisa May Alcott, Jane Austen, Louis L’Amour, the timeless quips of Yogi Berra… hey, don’t judge!). I also have backup copies of almost all of the books that I have used in our K-12 homeschooling. 🙂

Speaking of wood: Several months ago, one of the guys on this site recommended Lars Mytting’s book, “Norwegian Wood: Chopping, Stacking, and Drying Wood the Scandinavian Way.” Here’s a shout-out and a thank you to whoever made that recommendation. 1. Becky, I spoke with a healer friend earlier about pepsin sensitivity. He said it’s quite rare, paradoxical to have one’s body make something good into something rejected.

He suggested that you buy some Swedish Bitters and use them according to directions, which is to take some shortly before eating to stimulate gastric juices. He said that should start readjusting your body’s approach to pepsin. Also, he recommended that you find a peppermint product. (Not peppermint candy! LOL) He didn’t give a lot of detail on how to use the peppermint, but I suggest you find a peppermint lozenge or liquid and put one/some in your mouth to dissolve and coat your mouth and throat at least once a day and possibly whenever you feel you might be beginning to have a reaction to pepsin. I probably don’t have to caution you to check the ingredient list to make sure you get a clean formulation.

Over time, he said, your body should be able to adjust slowly to find pepsin more acceptable, until at some point a few weeks from now it “unlearns” the paradoxical reaction and resumes liking pepsin. He said neither of these substances (the bitters or peppermint) should cause any kind of negative reaction, not even a healing reaction that makes you feel worse before you begin feeling better, saying that you should just start feeling better.

Finally, I would add that you might eventually start to use Gotu Kola liquid by Nature’s Answer (UPC 083000003370) to heal your throat skin tissue if they have been damaged by the reactions you’ve been suffering from. It worked very well for my mother, so I know it works. The Gotu Kola I mentioned is glycerin-based but they also have an alcohol-based liquid if you need it.

I hope these ideas prove helpful!

          1. Leslyek, that is excellent. In fact, since Covid viruses lodge first In the throat for several days, throat treatments like this can have a big impact in possibly reducing the population of viruses there before they drop down into the lungs and GI tract after about 5 days.

      1. Good Morning Steve,

Blood work results are in: D3 levels up to 48ng/ml from 39ng/ml last year. A couple of changes:

        1. not knowing that D3 is fat soluble, I had been taking my D3 supplement at various times of the day, usually after breakfast, but not with a high fat meal. I learned that here. HERE!! Not from my doctor or my doctor husband (who by the way says to me after I tell him that I didn’t realize D3 is fat soluble that, “yes, it is and that’s why you can overdose from it”. Totally didn’t realize I should take the vitamin with a preferably high fat meal, so I started eating homemade organic (high-fat) yogurt or an egg w/sliced avocado and then took the D3 after.

        2. taking a different D3. Was taking one from Nutrilite then changed to the Kirkland D3….Kirkland was cheaper.

I can’t say that I am outside in the sunshine any more than normal, probably less.

So, the question…keep things going the way they are OR add more D3 or sunshine. Hmmmm.

        God Bless,

        Becky-TN

        1. Becky, that’s great news. the 40 ng/mL level is the real cutoff for whether you go to the hospital or not if you get Covid-19 – or probably any virus, for that matter. 48 gets you above that level.

When it comes to supplements, cheaper is not necessarily better. You need to read the ingredients list, especially the inactive ones. If you see stearates of various kinds and have digestive issues of any kind, your ability to absorb the D3 will drop significantly, so your actual absorption will be less. I use Healthy Origins because they have very few if any extra ingredients.

In my book (link in sidebar) I recommend that people take some Vitamin K2 (150 micrograms a day) with their D3 so that the D3 and one’s calcium metabolism will be regulated better. If the person has a bleeding issue already, then introduce the K2 carefully and perhaps reduce any anti-coagulants like aspirin etc one is taking. Also, I found for myself that my D3 production was limited unless I also took 1,200 milligrams of N-Acetyl-Cysteine with it. That allowed my D3 levels to pop up noticeably. N-Acetyl-Cysteine is also good for other things. If you add 200 micrograms of selenium each day, then the two will combine to create a lot more Glutathione, which is a very powerful aid against viral illnesses in and of itself..

Optimal range for D3 in the blood is 60-80, so I would say to keep doing what you’re doing. Getting 2-4 D3 blood tests a year is critical to figuring out how much D3 you need in the winter and the summer. It may seem like a lot of effort, but the results are worth it. 🙂

  5. “We are also dealing with more than one variant of the virus. Different variants have different characteristics and can be different in their
virulence. It is also coming clear that a patient can end up being infected by more than one variant at the same time.” (Steve BC).

I was doing some work for an infectious disease doctor many years ago. One of her specialties was treating HIV patients. She was commenting to me about the frustration she had with infected couples continuing their physical relations because with HIV, each individual has a different variant of mutations occurring in their bodies and by cross-infecting each other they would more quickly overwhelm their immune systems and die.
With this virus having some DNA markers of HIV and a similar “deactivation” system it stands to reason the variable forms occurring may become problematic, if not worse. With the manipulations of diseases by scientist trying to find cures for existing ones-or weaponising them, seems we have ventured into areas no man was ever supposed to go. There are mystics who have commented that a similar “manipulation” was occurring before the flood. Man as “sorcerer” working with demons were manipulating nature into truly monstrous forms and this was why God had to destroy the earth and then reduce man’s lifespan so he would not grow so old and so wise. Now with the advent of computers and world wide sourcing (sourcering), we can attain such knowledge again and we see what some are doing with it.
In an old movie I once watched, the people of a town contacted an old wizard in hopes he would come and kill a dragon that they had to sacrifice their maidens to. A line in the movie always stuck with me. When someone mentions the relationship between the Wizard and the dragon, the Wizard says
“Well, it was us who created them”.
It seems the dragon has been created again.

However, on the brighter side, look what SteveBC has discovered/shared! Ditto the other nutritional/health discoveries. Also, I truly don’t know, as I ‘ve stopped paying attention, but aren’t there now effective tx’s for hiv?

  6. Great job Steve. Thanks for puling this together in language people can understand. I have got about halfway through it.

Question for you: Have you wondered why young people seem so better able to fight off this virus than older people? There must be some kind of physiological attribute that erodes with age or at least that’s what the age distribution would suggest. I always thought about kids that it would be wonderful if we could somehow bottle their energy and sell it to the elderly. They may have some other stuff in their little bodies that older people and victims could use. Could whatever the substance they produce be artificially duplicated and provided as a prophylactic and/or treatment to reduce the severity of an infection?

    Any thoughts?

    1. STEd, I’m delighted you are finding my book easy to read. That was a big reason for me to rewrite it several times.

In this case I believe young people do better than older people *not* because of age but because of one specific factor. If you went to a high school and tested all the students in the school for their D3 levels, I bet fewer than 5% have D3 levels below 30. Do the same thing at a nursing home and you will find the exact opposite, with only 5% of the residents having D3 levels above 30. Researchers have found repeatedly that those with D3 levels over 30-40 rarely have problems with Covid-19. Their results are so stark in this divide that they don’t bother to separate their results by age. They also don’t break out their results by co-morbidity. The divide is that sharp and clean, based solely on D3 level.

Everyone should have their D3 levels tested at least every year, in the winter for sure, and if their test result is below 60, they should either get into the sun more or take D3 supplements. This becomes more and more imperative the older a person becomes, because *everything* erodes with age (except inflammation, which rises steadily). Ofcourse, many other factors are involved, but I’m beginning to think Vitamin D3 is the keystone vitamin.

As for finding that elixir of life to give to oldsters from youngsters, I debated whether to reply to you or not. There is a known way to do it, and the information is available openly on the web if you wish to research it. If you follow all the leads, you will be appalled at what you find. I’m not discouraging you from doing that research, far from it. The more people who know, the better. I just don’t think it’s good to discuss it here.

  7. CONTACT TRACING is now being implemented in PA. I do not believe this intrusion into our lives is necessary. What can we citizens to to stop it? I absolutely do not believe that it is for the good of citizens. It is about seeing how far they can go to control us and what we rights we are willing to give up when fear is rampant.

I see advertisements for people to become certified.

I have also seen the particulars posted from people who have become certified on Youtube. This looks more and more like the worst nightmare, a nightmare that leads to total control.

Are there any legal minds out there who can offer advice?

  8. Once one willing gives up rights of freedom and privacy, the we will not get them back without bloodshed and great distress for those who oppose. History has shown this again and again. One had to be totally blind if one submits to such nonsense. Where will government intrusion stop???? The test for the virus is only 60 per cent accurate. Who will decide when the confined can be released to see their children again and get back to work? This is madness.

  9. And, if those who demand confinement do not like one’s politics, how long will they decide to keep the so-called infected person in confinement as a punishment? Those who confine could totally ruin the life of the person who has has contact with the virus (even though there are NO symptoms present)…… I am sure that there are a lot of people who might dismiss this thought….
They did so when Hitler began to implement tracking and identification of Jews. No one imagined what would come. No one could imagine the gruesome reality of what was happening until the internment camps were opened up. Even General Patton had to stop and step outside. He actually vomited after seeing the vestiges of such evil, the box cars filled with dead, emaciated bodies, and the frightful state of those who still manage to draw breath. I think that history repeats itself when the sheeple do not learn from past history.

Lucifer will not appear to us with a pitchfork in hand. He will come with a smile and an offer of assistance in exchange for what he offers as good. Many people may act with him because they do not recognize him. Many will actually believe this is goodness. We all know this, but I had to say it.

  11. I am currently reading Plague of Corruption by Judy Mikovits and Kent Heckenlively, JD. In it she not only talks about her own experiences with trying to present a very unpopular truth, but also those of several brilliant scientist who supposedly committed suicide. All of these had found discoveries that would have impacted federal government policies or the earnings of the big pharmaceutical industries. She also discsses why those “suicides” were very suspicious.

Plague of Corruption is recommended reading. Disturbing but one must seek truth.

    1. SJWTB, agree with all your assessment on the plan for total social control.

I am hopeful there will be a battle. Worse than this is complacency, methinks. In my state there are almost zero warriors—just the complacent ones. Just seems any person given a leadership role here is eager to kowtow to whatever the Gov. says. There is even a friendly competition between our leaders to out-do the other leader-guy in implementing even more restrictions than the Gov. mandates! Very scary, that is to me. Also disgusting. Where are the real men/women? Aaargh.

So, we may have to remove CT from the continent, or something, LOL. Aaaargh.

There are very few that “like”. There are no converations except “I do not believe this.” A lot of people are asleep, a lot of people who consider themselves very educated. I feel like I am blowing a trumpet because God asks us to, but I am definitely in the minority.

      1. Hi, Doug I just finished the book, Plague of Corruption. According to Roger Stone, the corruption of the pharmaceutical industry is to be address in DT’s second term. Judy M spoke to him and said it was on the agenda. She saw him at a conference and she brought up the subject…..I think that this book is reveals some of the most important issues of our time. I believe that vaccines will be an important part of the New World Order going forward. They convince us they are necessary and safe, and since 1986 they have not been tested for safety at all. Judy and a noble, brilliant colleague, David Ruscetti, would like to see a 5-year moratorium on vaccines. To most people, that must sound awful. But please read the book to find out what the government has been hiding for many, many years. Anyone who refuses to back away from fruitful, well-documented research re the vast problems with vaccines is either fired, found dead of suicide, disgraced by faulty research that is published to refute their claims. Ironically, the Department of Defense has decide to do some research on microbial transplants in adults with autism in order to find a way to help these individuals. (Bayer has a relatively inexpensive old drug that seem to help greatly, but no agency will approved it for use to help the autistic. Why? I it likely not expensive enough, so they have to change it a bit and then rename it, and reprice it) The children of military receive vaccines regularly and they have a high level of autism and other diseases. Of course, this causes great stress to military families who are are ready under stress from separation and deployment, etc, A very important book written by people of great moral courage and faith in God.
They stand alone in speaking truth and they have suffered greatly. Honor their courage and integrity by reading what they have to say!

p.s. I’m awaiting a 3month now cat scan of my lung; and an order from my doctor for a Covid antibody test, will let you know!

I probably should be more careful on cites, but much of my work is my own conclusions and choices based on material from all over and sometimes I lose the cites from years ago but remember the point. Clif has been mentioned and discussed here in this community by a number of people a while ago. Most of what I say in my book is a case of almost 40 years of independent work leading to pretty much the same conclusions because that is the nature of truth and the seeking of truth.

    1. The book is very detailed about her awful experience of having scientific truth suppressed and replaced with faulty statements by establishment scientists/researchers, as well as how her career and finances were ruined by people would not let the truth come out. (After you read this, you will not believe much Fauci has to say.) She does a good job explaining retroviruses and the problems with vaccines that are made today. Sometimes she is a bit repetitive. I think she does it so that all with understand. A very good book.

      1. After reading this book, I know I will never take another vaccine again. I would not want them to be given to my children until the pharmaceutical companies change the ways they make them, and only give them when there is some real need….like stepping a a rusty nail and needing a tetanus shot. And Fauci? Part of the establishment all the way and pegged to the money changers. Not a doubt…..The flu shot is totally not necessary and causes the most deaths. And there is a very strong link to autism in many children, the arise of autoimmune disease and probably cancer.
This book was truly an eye-opening experience…..Although I rarely took a flu shot, I did have a few, on the advice of physicians. Even a few can mess up a persons immune system under the right circumstances. I now believe my 3 autoimmune problems are probably the result of vaccinations which carry retroviruses from animals. They may lay dormant for a while and then attack the body under the right circumstances. Human fetal tissues should never be injected on both moral grounds and for biological reasons. The amount of corruption among scientists is amazing and the agencies that are supposed to protect us are corrupted by players with strong monetary reasons to hide the truth of real science. Lies everywhere for a long, long time. This is one the the worst disasters in the history of science. Millions and millions of people everywhere have been affected and will continue to be affected. It is no wonder that the Holy Spirit must renew the face of the earth.

  15. Thank you so much, Steve! However, please do more research on the B vitamins, and Zinc. It is my understanding that one of the B vitamins can cause cataracts to develop. I am looking for that book. (The Vitamin Bible?) At any rate I was taking a B 50 mg complex a few years ago and after a year or two of that regimen, I developed cataracts (in my 60s, so possibly not related.) There may be a problem with a zinc overload on a regular basis. also. But thanks. My husband has a sore throat, and I am trying to convince him to take some or more of the things we already have — vitamin C, Quercetin, D3 + K, and NAC, all of which I take. If he consents to those, I will try to get him interested in the Chaga, selenium Excel, a B complex, and possibly the Nattokinase. He tends to want to take only the D3 and a few herbs.

    1. Linda, I have been at this since the middle 1980s, and I have *never* heard this. I did a quick search and found an article about a Swedish study that said that. That article also seriously stated that people can be healthy at the RDI about 40mg a day (false) and mentioned the dangers of “unregulated supplements.” You have to evaluate both author biases and the quality of their studies.

Dr Linus Pauling took 18 grams of Vitamin C for decades and did very well, working into his 90s.

You have to realize that there is a *very* strong push going on several decades to get supplements regulated so that they are made either unavailable or far more expensive. These same people are part of the attempt to keep HCQ, one of the safer and monitorable drugs on the planet for short-term use, out of the hands of those who would like to use it in conjunction with their doctors. Our healthcare system has been unduly influenced by those seeking their own (monetary) interest for over 100 years. Lots of misinformation and disinformation has built up over the years. For example:

      https://lpi.oregonstate.edu/mic/vitamins/riboflavin

      https://lpi.oregonstate.edu/mic/vitamins/thiamin

In these two studies, cataracts were inversely correlated with these two B vitamins. Click through and do a Find on the page for “cataracts.” The higher your intake of these B vitamins, the lower your likelihood of getting cataracts. I did a similar online search for Vitamin C and cataracts and found it essentially has no effect either way. Some of these results are significant and others are not.

Note that I am only recommending 2 grams of liposomal C in normal times. You are welcome to reduce your dose to 500 mg a day if you wish. The high doses I am recommending are for *short-term* use in a health crisis like an infection with Covid-19. Those higher doses are determined by the person’s weight, as stated in the document. Dr. Marik and his colleagues are giving their Covid-19 patients fairly high doses of IV Vitamin C, which has a similar absorption rate as does liposomal C. Note that the human need for Vitamin C soars from the normal range of up to 5 grams a day, going over 100 grams when very stressed, so much larger doses of C under great stress of serious illness are warranted during that crisis.

The same applies to zinc. During normal times only 30 mg is fine and taking 0-2 mg of copper is fine. When attacked by a coronavirus like Covid-19, you *must* take more zinc because the body uses it up very quickly, so during the short-term crisis of the infection, taking lots of zinc, up to 150 mg without adding copper, is fine, a dose that during normal times would be way too much without an accompanying dose of copper at a 15:1 ratio (zinc/copper).

Interestingly, I began developing cataract seeds and a slight cataract with graying light in my right eye, diagnosed a few years ago (around age 65-6) by my optometrist. I began taking C60-infused coconut oil in oral doses and as a couple eyedrops every night or two (it’s the only eyedrops I can tolerate). Within a year, the grayness to the light in my right eye went away, and my optometrist was shocked to report my cataract had stopped growing and night have shrunk slightly. The vision in my right eye is still a bit smeary, but my entire eye structure, retina and so on is in excellent shape.

Thank you for bringing up your concerns, Linda Concert. It really made me go back to the drawing board a bit and put some support under my comments in my document. I hope these comments of mine either give you some reassurance or give you the impetus to do further research yourself. I am always gathering material that may end up in the next revision, but so far, I’m not planning to make any changes on the matters discussed here. Thanks for your thoughtful reply. 🙂

  16. Found the book. The New Truth About Vitamins and Minerals by Bill Sardi, page 21, states that while riboflavin is essential in preventing cataracts, some of those subjects who took more than 10 mg of riboflavin actually developed cataracts. The author was involved as an assistant in that clinical study in the Veterans Hospital system sometime prior to the publishing date of 2003. The book states that zinc should be taken with copper, in a 10 to 1 ratio of zinc over copper

  17. Thanks Steve:

I have read Chapters 1-5 and skimmed the rest for now. For many years I have followed and participated at a another site called Peak Prosperity. When the virus hit a number of people there began sharing about their experience with various vitamins and supplements. As a result, I who had never really taken any vitamins or supplements, began a daily course of vitamin, C, B complex, D3, Zinc and a general multivitamin.

What I picked up from those folks turns out to be very similar to what you advise from your experience. Your information is much more specific about doses and the reasons for taking each item. You have also listed some things that I had not heard about before. I will be spending some time adjusting my doses and what I am taking based on your recommendations.

I really believe that God is opening avenues for us to deal with this terrible evil but we must take the time to listen and accept what He is trying to tell us. I think your putting out your book at this time is one of those avenues. Thank you for listening and sharing with us.

A blessed and happy Pentecost to all.

Of course, everyone needs to be careful to test that they tolerate anything they take and that it ultimately works for them in light of knowledge and of personal response. I agree that a lot of good knowledge and even a little wisdom is surfacing after long suppression. Recasting my paper felt very right to me in that light. Charlie has said things will be very tough for a while but then very much better. I certainly hope my document and all the other books and works we will see bubbling up into view are part of all of us shifting to that better world.

I’ve always felt that I cannot be in that new and better world unless I begin living in that new world now whenever I can. I hope it works! 🙂

He did not seemed concerned about what I was doing and seemed actually intrigued that I was finally taking seriously the idea that vitamins and supplements might be helpful. (I had resisted him on this for quite some time.) I would not take more than the medically recommended dosages without his input.

    1. That your doctor did not immediately flag that low level is one of the biggest problems in healthcare. In my book, I recommend taking Vitamin D3 supplements with N-Acetyl-Cysteine, but I understand that magnesium is also good to take. I don’t know your age, but it is true that older people are particularly likely to be very often low in both D3 and magnesium, two major deficits that make older folks much more vulnerable than younger people. In fact, it can be very difficult for older bodies to make D3 even if the older person spends a lot of time in the sun, so supplements of D3, NAC, and Magnesium become much more needed than for younger folks.

    1. Unfortunately, Bob, many older people (does that include you?) lose most or all of their internal ability to make Vitamin D3 in their skin. The only way I know to keep D3 levels high after 60-70 years of age is to monitor blood level and then take D3, NAC and Magnesium to get the level up to the 60-80 optimum. Still, spending time in the sun is always a good idea. 🙂

    2. Dolordee, I will pray for you and your family! I also have a suggestion. Perhaps you can encourage your son to do a rosary walk around town with as many people as he can gather. Even if it’s just one or two people, we know that prayer works!
Between about 1 and 2:15 p.m. yesterday, about 25 of us prayed the rosary on the sidewalk alongside the main street of a town a few miles from my home. The leader held a crucifix, we all had roses, and best of all, we were accompanied by the Miraculous/Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe! We prayed the Joyful Mysteries and the Divine Mercy chaplet.
Yesterday evening, a group of protesters marched in the street. Apparently the protest ended without any violence! We praise God and thank the Blessed Mother for her prayers!
If we can we all should pray the rosary while walking through or driving around our own neighborhood. 🙂

    2. Sorry everyone. I see I put my plea for prayer on the wrong page. I was just so shook up I wasn’t thinking. All discussion on riots and civil unrest are under the last subject. My memory isn’t so good these days.

      1. No worries, Dolordee. When I have a petition burning in my heart, I put it under the current Charlie piece as I know more folks will see it. Praying for peace for you this evening.

        1. As Steve said, the bricks were removed, and the demonstration turned out to be peaceful. I would like to think that the many prayers said were heard by God,and He answered them. Thank you all again, because it could have easily ended up like so many other cities.

          1. It was indeed probably because of the many prayers. I saw it late and prayed backward for ‘a strengthening of the holy Powers, Principalities, Thrones and Dominions“ over Frisco — and Jen’s Joliet, Naperville and anywhere near her. Felt effective! 🙂

    3. “On Riots & Civil Unrest” is a good possible title, but I have a feeling the titles probably come after the posts are written for Charlie. How about “On Death Throes of the Godless Left”?

      1. It was a play on the title of SBC’s guest column (On Viruses & Covid-19), since many Americans apparently rushed right on past to the next crisis already.

If I was actually going to write something up, I might entitle it “Get to the Bottom of It, or Simply Get Off Your Bottom?”

  23. More evidence in Italy that Covid19 is mutating into a less virulent form:
“The strength the virus had two months ago is not the same strength it has today,” said Matteo Bassetti, head of the infectious diseases clinic at the San Martino hospital in the city of Genoa.
“It is clear that today the COVID-19 disease is different.”
“The swabs that were performed over the last 10 days showed a viral load in quantitative terms that was absolutely infinitesimal compared to the ones carried out a month or two months ago,”

    1. That’s an answer to prayer, TYG, and ty for posting this.

For those of us in blue states, the only hope we have of dialing-down the totalitarian measures (I’ve hear rumors that some churches putting up plexiglass in front of altar! ) is if this happens and the infection numbers are a fizzle. Sadly, I still think folks here will double-down in fear/insanity, instead of finding a healthy balance.

I’m still trying to discern my role. Do I quietly go along? Or quietly dissent? My oldest said to me that someone needs to take a stand. It’s like everyone is in a trance.

      1. I think there is no one size fits all, Littlelight. In each moment we must lean into: Acknowledge God – each step by step at a time – take the next right step we each discern to be our calling and allow God to make of us a sign of hope.

        1. Ty for the encouragement! I am taking a new approach. I’m following the advice of Our Lady Tears of Joy (tell your friends, ty! for me). Thanking God for His provision and tender care. The first miracle is that I can see and feel His care even in the midst of what we all are living. The second is that I understand I need to do this 🙂

Such serious times, and rapidly increasing exponentially, just as Charlie spoke.

    1. NOW makes good products. I’ve used many in the past. However, a few years ago I found I have to be very careful about stearates for some reason, so I prefer using formulas that have very few extra ingredients including stearates. If you are not sensitive to stearates, you can use the NOW formulas whether they have stearates or not. Chapter 5 of my book has specifics for what I use.

To download and get that info, click on the Menu button at the top right corner of this browser window to open the sidebar, and then scroll down until you see my book, “On Viruses and Covid-19”. Click on that to open the PDF file in your browser. You can either read it there or download it to your computer.

Chapter 4 has explanations of typical dosing for the items listed in Chapter 5, depending on if you are healthy or are ill.

  25. Rioters and Looters attacked downtown Providence last night. A six mile, ten minute ride from our house. The police were aware of the planned event (My son found and showed me an add that was posted on Facebook yesterday (and was still up this morning) announcing that people should gather to “Loot” at 12:00 midnight in downtown. The add I saw actually used the word “Loot”.

The police were ready and kept the violence to a minimum but there was still extensive damage to shops and restaurants downtown. As the main group was disbursed small groups continued to do damage to shops and commercial establishments on their way out of the city.

Several thoughts going through my head this morning. It certainly appears that the forces of Hell have been loosened and are prowling around openly at this point. It is also becoming very apparent that someone, some group, or groups, are actively attempting to organize and spread this chaos. The barons of social media are complicit in this. They can censor posts about abortion, about Christianity and about conservative view points but they leave up an invitation to organize a riot for over twenty-four hours? The looting and rioting have nothing to do with organizing and protesting for social justice and equality. There was a large rally on the state house lawn in Providence on Sunday, and while there was some vandalism, the vast majority of the crowd was peaceful and co-operative with authority. The rioting and looting is a attempt to overthrown the present social order by use of force, fear and chaos.

Providence is a small city with little violent crime. I have never been afraid to travel though any part of town or to walk the streets, day or night. The makeup of our people is very diverse, comprised of all races and many different ethnic groups. While there have been racial issues over the years, for the most part we live peacefully and the vast majority of us accept and routinely move about in the diverse cultural mix. In fact, it is one of the things that makes Providence a very interesting place, even being such a small town.

If you are not already doing so (and I am sure most here already are) it is time to intercede for our country, society and culture like we never have before.

  26. Steve, do you have an opinion on the efficacy of infrared light therapy for muscle/joint pain. Of course, the ph. therapists say their professional model costs @ 1k; would the ones available on A. at a fraction be beneficial and if so, what wattage or mn,; not sure what the correct ‘power’ lingo is-excuse my ignorance.

    1. Maggie, I would think muscle and joint pain would be considered very different things. I spoke to a chiropractor once about light therapy for this kind of thing, and he said some people get great benefit from it and others get no benefit. I own a red-infra-red LED pad that I bought on Amazon for about $100 and have used it successfully on shoulder issues. However, I used that only after my chiropractor helped me sort out whether that could help me or whether I needed a different form of therapy. So getting a useful diagnosis first is a good idea.

Some people swear by IR or NIR in-home saunas that detox and soothe. I wish I had one of those but don’t have the money for it. If a person has the money for such, I understand they are extremely helpful

There are supplements that can tamp down pain associated with muscle damage but more particularly joint and soft tissue damage. I use bromelain, white willow bark, curcumin, and would suggest boswellia, too. These not only reduce pain but also help heal the injury. I never take NSAIDs or aspirin – too many pernicious side effects for long-term use.

If that doesn’t do the trick, or the pain is acute, then I recommend the next step is to find a good chiropractor who won’t snap you around and get an evaluation. He/she may be able to help or at least to maintain your situation or will refer you elsewhere, say to an osteopath for severe joint pain.

Try things until you find something that works!

  27. Interesting…

    “FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:Tuesday, June 2, 2020

A statement from Washington Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory regarding the planned visit today from the president at the Saint John Paul II National Shrine:

I find it baffling and reprehensible that any Catholic facility would allow itself to be so egregiously misused and manipulated in a fashion that violates our religious principles, which call us to defend the rights of all people even those with whom we might disagree. Saint Pope John Paul II was an ardent defender of the rights and dignity of human beings. His legacy bears vivid witness to that truth. He certainly would not condone the use of tear gas and other deterrents to silence, scatter or intimidate them for a photo opportunity in front of a place of worship and peace.”

      1. Oops I was trying to reply to the Archbishop statement. Wow. Thanks for the fact check on the tear gas. The shaming and vilification of Christians who wont bend the knee to the leftist narrative in its entirety (often by left leaning Christians) is terrifying. It feels like a murderous narrative is brewing. Like Rwanda.

        1. The Bishops are not speaking to the hijacking of the protests by those who are rioting.

Oh yes, Irish, like Rwanda… and like so many pre-revolutionary times in history. In the words of the great Victor Davis Hanson: The lesson from the American Civil War and the French Revolution, the rise of Nazism in Germany or of Bolshevism in Russia, is not that clear majorities of partisans and countless news junkies are needed to foment extremism and tear apart a country. Instead, it is that zealous and sometimes warring tiny minorities can escalate tensions, nullify opposition, and bully the silenced majority to sanction–or at least not object to–the violence by which they eventually make their illiberal agendas go mainstream. 28. Steve, as for Vitamins D, K and varieties of vitamin E they are fat soluable so should be taken with meals containing healthy fats for optimum absorption. . Didn’t know if you mentioned that along with NAC, magnesium, etc?

    Like

    1. Bob, yes, you are correct. I didn’t mention it because many of these items that are fat soluble come in fat-containing gelcaps and because most people take their pills before or after a meal within a reasonable period of time. So although it is an issue, I didn’t really think to remark on it because I don’t consider it to be a significant one. People have enough trouble taking any of the pills I myself take that I really don’t want to add any complicated scheduling to their burden. They will get something out of the pills no matter when they take the pills, and that’s really good enough. If people actually read the directions, of course, most such bottles tell them how to do it, and maybe they’ll follow that and maybe they won’t. For myself, it’s an additional layer that I don’t pay attention to, since my pill-taking sessions tend to have the needed oils and fats in them to do the trick. I think it all pretty much comes out in the wash. Please accept my thanks for bringing up this point, though – for those who want to get the most benefit from their supplements, it’s a very helpful point to keep in mind. 🙂

  30. Thank you about your experience with NOW brands. Thank you for the detailed info in Chap 5 (all of it really!) We have Now alpha omega fish oil for the doggos as that and coconut oil is very good for their coats. We take the fish oil too! We have been slacking lately, though, for both the doggos and ourselves, ugh. Must get back at it! This lockdown has been really tough on all our motivation. By the grace of God we will prevail!

  31. SteveBC, I’m sure you’re aware of The Lancet’s retraction yesterday re the hydroxychloroquine study. That study, which claimed that HCQ+ is either dangerous or ineffective in treating COVID-19 (sorry, I didn’t burrow into the original study to find out which claim was made), was used by many to discourage the use of HCQ+ for treatment of COVID-19. Here is a link to the retraction:
