“Lord, we ain’t what we wanna be,
We ain’t what we oughta be,
We ain’t what we gonna be,
But thank you, Lord,
We ain’t what we was.”
Common prayer of former slaves after the American Civil War
Late last August I began to get nervous as I contemplated the Revelation 12 sign that would appear in the sky on September 23. While it was not what I expected of the Rescue, nor how I had described it, it did match up with at least the first half of what I had been told about the Rescue: “Our Lady will be revealed to the whole world and you will be rescued.”
At the time of the Incarnation, all the Jews in Israel expected the Messiah to be a political and military leader who would restore the temporal kingdom of David. This expectation was so ingrained that even St. John the Baptist, near the end of his life, sent disciples to ask Jesus, “Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?” (Matthew 11:3) Jesus did not answer him directly, but instead instructed John’s disciples to go back and describe the things they were seeing to him.
I knew that with the Rescue, the satan’s over-arching power over the culture would be broken. So I decided to take a cue from the interchange between St. John and Jesus – to watch what happened. Shortly after the Sept. 23 sign, the pious pretensions of the anti-God cultural and political left began collapsing in on themselves wholesale. Hollywood, the media, and political offices could no longer sustain the posturing they had maintained successfully for decades. On November 21, both Iraq and Iran declared that ISIS had been defeated in a stunning collapse of its caliphate. The investigation into Russian collusion was revealed to be no investigation at all, but a sustained bureaucratic and judicial coup attempt by top levels of the American justice department and the intelligence community, led by Obama holdovers in the federal bureaucracy. Oh, I know they are still squealing about it, but the evidence is now clear and compelling. On Dec. 6, President Trump formally recognized Jerusalem as the legitimate capitol of Israel, acknowledging a 3,000-year-old historical reality concerning our “elder brothers in the faith,” as St. John Paul called the Jews. Planned Parenthood and the culture of death are far more deeply on the ropes as this year begins than almost anyone yet realizes. By the early middle of December, I started writing versions of this piece, but I was rebuked repeatedly, so let it ride until today.
Though the satan’s power is broken and diminished, he remains dangerous. But now his influence is limited to those who give themselves over to him. That, too, is a tricky business. In Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” the Ghost of Christmas Present says at one point that, “There are some upon this earth of yours who lay claim to know us, and who do their deeds of passion, pride, ill-will, hatred, envy, bigotry and selfishness in our name, who are as strange to us and all our kith and kin, as if they had never lived.” Truly, whoever does such things, whatever he says, has given himself over to the satan while he does them and is terribly vulnerable. Moreover, those who have given themselves to the satan can still do damage to the innocent. Murderers can still murder, North Korea can still spark a nuclear war. But as with the Union forces after Gettysburg and the Allied Forces after D-Day, the tide has turned. We face a broken, though still deadly, enemy.
I should have been more prudent and cautious. I well know that most prophecies describe a process that is often defined, but not contained, by a particular event. The definitive rescue of humanity began with Mary’s ‘yes,’ but it would be 34 more years before even the wisest began to understand what it was. I have warned people against looking for fireworks shows, for I well know that God usually works more subtly than that; that if there are to be fireworks, they usually come at the culmination of the process– yet in my enthusiasm at the Rescue, I immediately went to the fireworks show interpretation.
My public record of prophecy has been a mixed bag. I was describing these times as a global civil war fought on cultural lines long before I started sharing things with my Priests 23 years ago. I was doing the same with the primacy of the threat of North Korea. It was over 17 years ago that I spoke of the coming collapse of the rule of law, with justice weaponized as a partisan tool, to name just a few striking cases. One could plausibly argue that this is not evidence of visitations, but just of a peculiar intuitive genius. I don’t buy that. I am reasonably smart, but not that smart. But I have had two spectacular failures in the inauguration and how I described the Rescue. Both can be plausibly cast as interpretive, rather than substantial, failures. Even so, my job has been, if I speak at all, to get it right – and I didn’t in either of these instances. Therefore, after today I will foreswear public prophecy. At best, I am marginally competent at interpreting what I am given. I will not quit writing on matters of culture, geo-politics and public policy from the perspective of an orthodox Catholic. Perhaps all will scatter. That is not my affair. But I have found that for some, my writing has helped recollect them to first things, fundamentals of the faith. I will write to encourage those who I can in the battles before us. I will take some time, no more than a few weeks, and then get to work from a purely faith-based analytical perspective. That has been my way for most of my life, so I merely go back to my comfort zone. I will have this site shut down in a few days and open up a new one with the same name later but without any publicly prophetic element.
Meantime, if the larger cultural power of the satan has been broken (and it has) there are two poles of danger we must avoid. The first is defeatism. We have been used to losing the cultural battles for so long that we expect to lose. We are as demoralized as the French Army before St. Joan of Arc took control of it. We must lift up our heads with confidence, with the confidence that the Lord of Hosts does not abandon His people. Proclaim your faith boldly. The second danger is triumphalism. If we seek to impose our individually limited vision of what God’s truth is on all, we risk driving people away that God intends us to gather in – and we will be held to account for it. Proclaim your faith charitably.
It is easy – and even just – to be angry with those who are perpetually angry and offended, those who have done so much to tatter the social fabric with their unending shrill attacks. Look deeper, though. See the agony behind their anger. Most of these people are pitiable: they have lost the capacity for joy or happiness. Like the old song, they are only happy when it rains. What misery they have cloaked themselves in! Many, perhaps most, of these can be reclaimed. Resist their depredations, yes, but show them a better way, not only with what you say, but how you live. Let your eye not be on destruction first, but on reconstruction, knowing that God does not abandon His people.
Everyone knows there is great turmoil in the Church right now. Different clerics have different gifts. I know a Bishop, a very orthodox Bishop, who is not known for his profound public defenses of the faith, but quietly does stunningly marvelous work with the broken, the poor, the addicts in his diocese, giving many new hope. I admire that Bishop. I know another very orthodox Bishop in a terribly troubled diocese who does not rain condemnation and anathema on all the offenses there, but tries to conciliate those who are in darkness to co-exist with the faithful. I admire him and believe his tolerance will not debase the faith, but will preserve people for a greater catch to the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart. I know many Bishops and Priests I admire greatly, who do not do things as I would. I give thanks for them all. Consider your clerics in their totality and support the good that is there. I know that there are some who advocate against the faith of the Magisterium. But consider each of them in their totality. Even in the worst of circumstances, you can always live faith. Never condemn someone merely because he does not do what you think you would in the same situation.
Too often people are looking for the flaw in others. When that is your perspective, you will always find it. We all have feet of clay. Heaven knows, the Pharisees and Sanhedrin found many apparent flaws even in Our Lord, Himself. But when you are looking for the flaw, whose eyes are you looking through? The satan is sometimes called the great accuser of mankind – for he is always looking for flaws to point out to God. God is always looking for the strand of fidelity, of charity, of compassion in even the most flawed, that he may weave whatever frail strands are there into a lifeline that will call flawed men back to the fullness of faith. Do not fail to defend against depredations, but see your fellows through the healing eyes of God rather than the bitter, wounding eyes of the satan.
Despite my occasionally spectacular failures, nothing has happened to diminish the merit of the heart of what I proclaim: the ordinary way of acknowledging God, taking the next right step, and being a sign of hope to those around you.
The process which will culminate in the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart has begun. Our choice now is to be heralds of it or inhibitors of it. May God bless and keep you safe throughout the restoration before us.
Thanks for all of your efforts and hard work! You will be missed S we all need so much encouragement. God bless and hope to get a glimmer of hope anew!

I’ve been an avid follower of your site and fully appreciate the simple message of Be a sign of Hope to those around you…I had the privilege of attending one of your town hall meetings in Katy Texas a few years ago and after your presentation you opened it up for Q/A. I raised this question, “With your obvious sensitivity to dates and concern that ALL prophets can have the rug pulled out from them regarding dates, why do you think you were so adamently instructed to share ‘the end of 2017’ as the timeframe for the rescue?” I then offered a suggestion/answer to that question for your discernment which was, “Do you think your angel offered that date only to test your faith when there was no real intention of completing the rescue by 2017?”
Obviously, the answer is unknown, but I proffer the question again as it is worth your consideration. If the source of the rescue prophecy was your angel (i.e. one of the good guys) than there has to be some logical reason for him to give you “bad” information. The reason I refer it to as bad information as you mentioned on more than one occassion that you were obstinate with your angel when it came to sharing this date publically. So much so that the angel had to rise up (in righteous anger) and make it abundantly clear that you were to share that date.
Since that date has come and gone, there has to be some explanation.
1) Either the source of that date was not one of the good guys
2) It was from one of the good guys and was issued to “test” you & others
For those that put 100% of their hope into that rescue message by end of 2017, their faith could be tested here. Additionally, for you…You are being tested. To pull up your “prophetic” tent and call that aspect of your ministry quits might be the test facing you. is THAT what our Lord wants? Or is that what makes things easiest/cleanest for you? Clearly, by doing so you portray a sense of honor…You’re “doing the right thing” so to speak because you made a claim and are standing behind it so much so that you’re calling it quits. I get it. However, have you gone back to your angel/source of the info and asked for further clarity on why you were given bad information? Moreover, have you given our Lord the opportunity to confirm whether or not HE WANTS you to call it quits?
You may have done both, but have not shared so publically. I think the honorable thing to do is to go back to your Angel, Our Lord and ask him both of those questions. Surely he/they would show you the decency of a response.
Otherwise, your move to quit this aspect of your ministry dances dangerously around salving your ego. (Offered with the up most respect).
I hope I’ve been clear with the above, and if I’ve missed some missive that already addressed any of this, please feel free to point me in that direction.
Kind regards,

Actually, I explain that in this article. I don’t think it was either of the scenarios you discussed, but that, like the Star of Bethlehem, it came before us all and we did not understand it. I terribly misinterpreted. In any case, I leave that behind now and move forward. There is a lot of work for all of us to do.

As salvation is never a passive thing – God requires that we consciously accept His grace – the reversal of the trend that seemed inevitable is only that, the reversal of a trend. For there to be a fundamental change in the world, there has to be a change of heart.
In reading the news, I see very little about what we could truly call moral issues being discussed – and yet it is morality (or lack) that has caused our tribulation. Hurricanes, Fires, Blizzards, etc. notwithstanding, the real trials we face require us to choose God and choose love.
The fact that doing so can lead to a genuine improvement in life is now perhaps more apparent, but we still have to respond.Your three basic charges are by far the most significant work we can undertake.
I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live, Deut 30:19

Absolutely on target, Vic. Of course, the establishment culture recoils from faith like Dracula from a Crucifix – but it is a (sometimes quiet) re-dawning of real faith that is changing things. Most of the Priests I speak with tell me of some astonishing conversions…but they are coming one by one. The old culture is dying, the new one is popping up as seedlings.

I thought we are being rescued since the end of 2017. Trump calls it a storm of taking down all the top dogs which locks in evil for those with little authority below them. Now that they’re being taken out of power good can flourish once again.

Hi, Charlie. Happy New Year!
Respectfully, can you clarify something? In Fractured Expectations, you said that you thought that Sept. 23rd might have been the sign of the rescue, but you were rebuked by your angel that it wasn’t the sign when concerned that most may not recognize it as Our Lady. I took that to mean that the rescue was still to come. Now you are saying that it was the sign of rescue.
Did I misread something there? Thanks in advance for the clarification.

No, Karen, I did not say I was rebuked that it was not the sign, but that I was rebuked for wanting to publicly speak of it before the end of the year.

It has become very clear to me that many, including myself to some degree, lost sight of the totality of scriptural and Church approved apparitions and messages as a frame work in which to interpret and understand what you Charlie has been sharing about what you had been told. The Rescue viewed as a single moment occurrence does not allow for all the other things that must occur before the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary can be completed. I see that aspect more clearly in this posting and can see that what you were saying and what I was understanding were entirely too far apart. I am looking forward to see how you and all of us will handle this in the future. May the Holy Spirit continue to guide and protect us going forward.

Hey Charlie,
Still here in the boat, just been keeping quiet.
I guess the misunderstood triumph doesn’t change anything for me because at some point along the way I realized that if something were to happen, aside from prudent preparations of a little extra food, water and tp there is really nothing I can do to “save” my family.
Even the best supplied pantry was underwater in Houston after Harvey.
At first it was scary and kind of depressing; I desperately wanted some kind of earthly insurance that my family would be safe and the thought that I couldn’t do that was awful.
Then, I realized that what God wants is for me to trust Him and that whatever happens, it is the best for our souls even if it is difficult for the body. Very hard lesson for me. (I still keep my boots and bag handy however, they are my version of the wise virgin’s lamp oil).
Looking forward, the words “now we can get to work” have been coming to me the past few days.
Not sure what kind of work it will be, but I’m ready. Got my boots.
God bless,
Pinecone Jill

Got my boots. Spoken like a true Houstonian. Your boots got wet during Harvey. Now they are battle-hardened. You are ready, aren’t you.
Maybe your faithfulness is helping to save your family- spiritually. I thought of Mark Mallett’s post of today, You Be Noah when I read your comment:]

Oh I should have written that better, I was not in Houston, I watched it on tv and thought of how all of my stuff would have just floated away and that even the most prepared was no better off than the least. Sobering, especially since one of my “preps” was a large amount of toilet paper. Can you even imagine the mess that would have been?
I’m only feeling ready because I stopped trying to be ready and started practicing trust. It’s actually harder. Sometimes I am overcome with the urge to “stock up” and have to stop myself and pray because I know it’s not God telling me to do it, it is my own fear.

Dear Charlie,
There has been an appreciable change worldwide since September 23rd 2017, particularly in the world of the arts.
On September 27th, the feast day of St Vincent de Paul, Hugh Hefner passed from this world to the next. The Playboy culture he fostered has since been revealed as a cruel sham and the hearts of many have been revealed.
I remembered then that a daughter of St Vincent de Paul who needed the physical presence of a mother had her wish granted on St Vincent’s original feast day in July 1830 and on 27th November of that year that mother’s care was extended to all who wished to have it. You can read about it here

I want to share with all here, what I was told by a remarkable woman from Pittsburgh many years ago. She explained to me the view from Eternity of prophetic events here on earth was impossible to discern completely in human terms because we cannot comprehend it all with our limited human intellect. Only after the prophecies have played out on earth can we begin to fully understand what was intended by God’s Prophetic Words in the first place.
Beckita, please tell Father of my clever name change so he is not confused as to who I am in any future posts. ;-}

Father will chuckle, BD, Sir Clever as Ever One! Your friend from Pittsburgh is a wise woman. From my limited studies of mysticism and prophetic words, I’ve seen occur, again and again, your friend’s description of how the fulfillment of prophecy comes to pass, both in reading and in real life. Of course, Charlie knows this more intimately than any of us. Nevertheless, you’ve shared an important principle of discernment. Thank you.

I am so excited about this new site and the use of the word “hope”. As I said before, the word “hope” has resonated with me since this past Advent. Dear Charlie!
I’m looking forward to hearing more from you!
What if your angel tells you to speak prophetically again? Oh dear, I’m sort of kidding. But…
I think that things are coming to a head in people’s hearts as well as politically. Those who’ve blithely tripped along, thinking their modern ways were just the way of progress, are being confronted with people they know who actually did the unthinkable, and voted for Trump. This is more than just politics. This is the civil war you spoke of. Twice in the last month I’ve offered my hand to people in the middle of them railing against our president and said – “now you’ve met someone who voted for him” (with a grin). This is about more than politics but politics have brought things to a head and you are right – we must stay charitable and keep our relationships with the “deranged” alive. In the first instance, we wound up agreeing on abortion and in the second, I could see the wheels turning backwards a bit as the excuses and apologies flowed (they were strangers in an elevator). You are right about us getting used to being bullied and defeated. And right about not giving in to triumphalism. The gift of humor without cynicism is what I pray for as the Lord moves – and the people in darkness are confronted with light.

You know Charlie, it just occurred to me as I was scanning some of the comments on this page that people are not so much concerned about the prophetic aspect of your writings as they are in understanding your overview and insight into all of the activity happening in these times. That is how I feel. I’ve read other alleged prophetic sites and almost always did I get an uneasy feeling (plenty of doubts). Not so with you. It sat well with my spirit when I read your background and how, when you came to the Roman Catholic Church, you felt you needed to search no more (hope I have that part right). You seem to have been gifted with sound discernment. In short, I learned quite a while ago to not be curious about what will happen or when. It is only important to remain faithful to the gospel, frequent the sacraments, and assist others to come to know that God loves them. This website helps me (along with other reliable sites) to stay focused and do just that. For that I am grateful. I will continue to follow your writings and will discern as I read. I will pray for you and I am sure you pray for us. You obviously have a mission to complete. I wish you well from Canada (eh). 😉
God bless you.

Ha Michael! Last summer I was chatting with a dear friend from the Midwest when he joked, “Okay Charlie, I’m not interested in your timetable, only your insight.”

God Bless Charlie. I have always liked your commentaries on faith and our cultural rot as well as signs of progress and will continue to follow. Frankly after the inauguration I was more cautious about the prophetic element but prayed and waited to see what would happen, but God’s promises are true even if they happen not as we expected.

Could I have a suggestion for the new site? The dark green background makes the words hard to read —or is it just my old eyes getting older? Maybe a lighter hue would help. Thank you.

Instead of changing the green background, the text could be changed to white or very light grey.

I felt the same way about the green, joy, but give it time, … it grows on you and has a rather soothing influence

Glad you like him.
I made it a fish as it’s long been a symbol of Christians.
I made him a pretty orange because I thought it looked nice against the green.

That was my comment, Joy, My eyesight is not what it used to be and dark letters on a dark background are really straining my eyes. No Andy, it doesn’t grow on me, it’s my eyes 🙂 Maybe the green could be lighter or paler green. I have a pale green background on one of my emails and it’s easy to read. Sorry to be a spoilsport, Charlie!

Okay, I have lightened up the green a bit. Hope that works for you.

I think the tone of green you have now works well.

Hello, everyone. I love the seamless transition from the old site to this new community hall. 🙂 I really like the soothing green background, too. It reminds me of home. ❤

BTW, the time listed for my posting is about 8 hours later than my actual time in Oregon. Mebbe you’re still on GMT. 😉

Ah, this will be a work in progress for a few weeks. I completely forgot that with my original site, I had to go in and manually re-change the clock from some European time zone. I reckon I’ll have to figure out how to do it all over again.

I can’t tell if I am connected/registered in the new site. I got here and posted a comment that got approved. If I was successful in registering it would not be the first the Lord has rescued me. I tried to follow the instructions given by Bekita but can’t seem to make it through. I am so dense sometimes. Looking forward to the new beginning.

One easy step to take if you haven’t yet done so, Sojourner, is to look at the top of this page and click on the “blue ribbon” which has the words “Follow A Sign of Hope” on it.
After I did that and began to make a comment, a lighter green box opened under the comment box, giving me the option to click on the options:
“Notify me of new comments via email.”
AND
“Notify me of new posts via email.”
I don’t know about your preferences but I like to activate both of these options.
God bless us all.

Happy Epiphany everyone. On this first, First Saturday devotion in reparation to the Immaculate Heart, I kept all our TNRS in my prayers and prayed for our ‘new’ family of ” a sign of hope” for Charlies new site. I guess our new symbol should be a Chestnut Tree or something… in keeping with the squirrel theme.
Anyhow, Last year in 2017 I spent the Epiphany at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the 1st Saturday in the Church of the Holy Family (Blessed Miguel Pro’s Church). This 2018 First Saturday was celebrated in Our Lady of Hope Church Whitehall NY (Birthplace of the USN)

Thank you so much, Sean, for your prayers for all of us. I love your idea in keeping with the squirrel theme, I must say, I hope we all can “jump from the old site into the new”, just like the squirrels do from tree to tree, and I will attempt to put up my pic on the new site with my little squirrel I have sitting on my entryway table.

Want to keep on — keeping on — with all of you. It’s been “joyful chaos” for past two weeks; but,
I will catch up with the good and encouraging news of this site. Hope in the transition, I do not
lose all of you. Christmas Joy, Hope and Love. Pat

Sojourner, if you haven’t registered with wordpress.com, you might want to as it seems to be pretty easy to work in within these two sites. I confuse myself pretty easily with this computer and online world so I am mighty pleased when I find things going smoothly as I navigate around. Once you have a wordpress account, what I did was: on Charlie’s old site Next Right Step and going to his last post (This Site will be down on Sunday) I clicked on the link in his last paragraph about “previewing” the new site A Sign of Hope. Then once on the new site, look in bottom right of your screen for : Following If you click on that, you will begin following the new site, A Sign of Hope, and then from there you can manage your “subscriptions” to Charlie’s new site and any other sites that are in wordpress.com, such as Veronica’s Veil etc. and up in the left top part od your screen is Reader. If you click on that you can do other things with your sites that you are subscribed to.
I hope I havn’t muddied the waters, Beckita. I certainly understand if this doesn’t make the cut, lol. I thought it might help some who learn in a bit of a different slant. I found going to the documents you linked to was not something my brain wanted to “compute’ easily, so just trying to explain how my brain got to desired locale:]

I sure miss the links from the old site. I often read them as they were good ones and easy to find in one place

I will transfer many of the links to the new site. This will be a work in progress for a few weeks. But you will get most of the non-prophetic material you had at the old site here at the new one.

Please pray for our daughter Cassie who has had a brain tumor all her life and has been on and off treatment all her life too. She has a very rare brain tumor that in those who have received radiation, 50% of the children have died because the radiation causes multiple tumors. She has brain injury due to surgery already and now has lost most of the visual field in one eye and half of the visual field in the other eye.. We are praying for miracles: please pray for the tumor to shrink and for her vision to be spared.
