Abraham's Journey
By Charlie Johnston The Difference Between a Threshold Issue and a Single Issue When I was a teenager, a very nice old man, Mr. Valentin (pronounced like the saint) lived kitty-corner behind us on the next street up. He was a German ex-patriate who had some great stories to tell about the war and always […]
Read More A Couple of First ThingsBy Charlie Johnston Church Militant’s interview with Federal Elections Commission (FEC) Chairman, Trey Trainor, is not just good; it’s consequential. Those Bishops and other religious leaders who have relied on purported fears of losing their tax exempt status to justify turning a blind eye to depredations on the left and attacking the right with impunity […]
Read More How Long, O Lord?By Charlie Johnston An acquaintance of mine recently suggested to me, rather plaintively, that if we vote for Joe Biden, maybe the left will stop the violence. “Oh, like Democrat Mayors and Governors have protected their Democrat voters in the cities and states they control?” I tartly responded. The Democrats have unleashed the ravenous beast […]
Read More Pockets of ResistanceBy Charlie Johnston Today, in Sacramento, a host of people from across California will be processing from the Cathedral to the steps of the Capitol, saying the Rosary along the way and then forming a living Rosary on the steps of the Capitol. I will have pictures up by Monday of what transpired. It […]
Read More The Silenced Majority is Finding Its VoiceBy Charlie Johnston The Covid Virus is like a very weak predator which is murderously aggressive, preying ruthlessly on the weak, slow-moving immune systems of the old and vulnerable while barely bothering with the faster-moving systems of the young and healthy. For people 18 and under, the common flu is almost 30 times (30 times!) […]
Read More Covid, Priests and SquirrelsBy Charlie Johnston I spent a good chunk of last Sunday meandering in the mountains, with an hour in contemplation and prayer at the foot of Mt. Meeker. I actually wrote a lot last week – but I’ll deal with that another time. People frequently call to ask me if this is it. Well, it […]
Read More The Time for Choosing is at HandBy Charlie Johnston If you have been driving long enough, you have probably had a rock hit your windshield and make a small crack – a crack that, over time, starts creeping across the window. Every week or so, you notice it has gone a little farther. When it grows into a bona fide fracture, […]
Read More Thoughts as the City of Man TopplesBy Charlie Johnston Over a decade ago I was running two Congressional campaigns at opposite ends of the state. I would bounce back and forth. On a Monday morning when I was opening a weekly meeting at the western one, I was furious at some things that had been bobbled over the weekend – several […]
Read More Just a Couple of Things…By Charlie Johnston I have been struggling to get a handle on this business, writing a long, fairly complex piece. It finally dawned on me this morning that I would do well to divide it into at least three small pieces, covering different aspects. Also, I have been overwhelmed with email traffic and ‘messenger’ requests. […]
Read More Notes From the Plague Journal – What is Truth?By Charlie Johnston I’m laboring over two rather meaty pieces right now. I thought, in the meantime, you might enjoy this brief glossary of establishment media terms in popular usage on the left. It might help you clear up some confusion. Note that these are not actually proper definitions, but how your betters in the […]
