Well, the USCCB, which could not bring itself to making a loud, full-throated call to support life, oppose transgender ideology, promote the traditional family and Biblical definition of marriage, has finally found something it can be full-throated about: demanding that American taxpayers cover all expenses for illegal aliens and quit the “indiscriminate mass deportation of people.” No guidance was given on how the government should properly discriminate in deportations. And it was not all countries – and certainly NOT Vatican City that the Bishops demanded that law enforcement cease – this burden was laid only on the United States. Meantime, the Bishops gave no guidance on:
- The duty owed to those people slain, raped, or tortured by the precious illegal aliens.
- The pressure on housing and jobs for ordinary Americans that are now in competition with illegal aliens for same.
- The hundreds of thousands of lives lost to fentanyl and other deadly drugs facilitated by illegal immigration each year.
The USCCB took NO responsibility for the dramatic increase in human trafficking, both for slave labor and sexual slavery that has been facilitated by nearly open borders into the United States. The USCCB did NOT offer to relieve Americans of the financial burden of caring for these people by taking it on themselves. In fact, they demanded that the U.S. keep funding the charitable works that are part of THEIR job description. Meanwhile, they bleat that they spend more on relief for illegal aliens than they get from the U.S. government. Never mind that it is THEIR JOB to provide relief to those suffering, given by their original Boss…so they might show a little gratitude that the government is helping them do THEIR JOB for them. Of course, that is not near as satisfying as thundering about how the U.S. is not measuring up to their lofty moral standards – for the U.S. and the U.S. only…certainly not for themselves.
The Bishops also assured us that human respect and dignity does not depend on citizenship. They had nothing to say about those raped, tortured, murdered or sold into trafficking by illegal aliens and their right to dignity or respect. Apparently, the victims are just collateral damage and unworthy of their notice. The Bishops notably did not demand that the aliens’ countries of origin start treating them with respect or dignity so they can be more easily repatriated. They were probably too busy tracking down chunks of ice to bless or same sex marriages to bless.
I am friends with several Bishops and friendly with more than that. They are good, thoughtful people. But, collectively, the Bishops are perhaps the most dysfunctional, pretentious, feckless group of people I have ever dealt with. If Ronald Reagan had followed the Bishops’ solemn counsel during the Cold War, we would all be speaking Russian right now. On temporal matters they are just clueless – and smugly triumphal, to boot. They are the very archetype of Matthew 23:4 – binding heavy burdens, grievous to be borne, and laying them on other men’s shoulders while not lifting a finger to help. This is not new. Shoot, when Islam mounted a war of extinction against Christianity, the hierarchy waited until nearly a third of western Europe had been taken before mounting the Crusades to defend the Christian countries. What IS new is actively undermining the actual faith while virtue-signaling with thunderous pronouncements on temporal matters they don’t understand or seem to even care to understand – as a group, anyway. It tears at me.
In Charlotte, Bishop Michael Martin has banned the Latin Mass and the use of altar rails at any Mass…all in the name of unity, you know. Sheesh! My legs hurt all the time and kneeling is one of the hardest, most painful things I do. But unless the pain is off the charts, I am going to kneel before my God (I do have a dispensation against kneeling because of that, but I rarely use it.) Meanwhile, Austin Bishop Daniel Garcia is banning the use of kneelers for receiving communion, explaining that to receive standing is the “norm,” in America, apparently unaware that it is the canonical norm to receive while kneeling, but the USCCB has gotten the Vatican to waive that norm for America. So, I will still kneel at reception and have a harder, more painful time getting up because Bishop Garcia wants to eliminate what I always greet with relief when I see it in a parish. I am a proud, committed Catholic BECAUSE of Scripture and the Magisterium, but I am completely embarrassed by the fecklessness and dereliction of actual duty by the modern hierarchy. That embarrassment today is coming out as anger. How long, O Lord?!
Yet there is, I have been long convinced, a purpose to God fully revealing the cupidity and the fecklessness of this group. I think that, from the beginning, God intended that there ultimately be a spiritual arm of His Church, the Hierarchy – which was to concern itself with salvation and bringing souls to Christ – not telling them that whatever sin floats your boat is good with them in some pathetic effort to be welcoming. There is a rigor to salvation – and as people jubilantly head towards the edge of the cliff, those charged with safeguarding them who, instead, busy themselves telling them it is just fine, keep going, WILL be held to account. Quit focusing on the splinter you think is in your neighbor’s eye, dear Bishops, while congratulating yourselves for it and ignoring the beam in your own eyes. But God also intended for there to be a secular arm to His Church to deal with such matters. Early on, the Holy Roman Empire served this purpose – but except for a brief, shining moment, it was more feckless, weak and impotent than the average National Conference of Bishops. It died out. But God is all about Resurrection. I think it will be revived – and in a much different way than what people think. Then the Bishops can quit playing at politician and get down to the business of drawing souls to Christ. In the meantime, don’t follow the Bishops’ lead on temporal matters. It would get everyone killed. Not that they give much of a lead anyway, just performative, theatrical pronouncements, with no acknowledgement of the problems their approach creates or counsel on how to actually make it work. Their advice boils down to, “All children deserve to be born” – and they’re not actually very fussy even about that.
And I am scared. I have always known that those Bishops who actively undermine Scripture are doomed to perdition unless they repent. But I now fear that those Bishops who value “collegiality” higher than they do doctrinal integrity are in grave danger, as well. It’s time to get right with God, for real. Preening and posturing don’t cut it – and only kindles the Big Guy’s wrath. He will strike far more quickly than you think.

Well, maybe not entirely. I promised a reader I would give a reminder about the infuriating case of Tina Peters. Peters is the Mesa County Deputy Clerk in Colorado who revealed how the Democrats committed and promoted fraud there in the 2020 election – and for her troubles was sent to prison by Colorado Atty. Gen. Phil Weiser. I never thought there could be a more vicious, feckless state attorney general than Kamala Harris was when she was persecuting David Daleiden in California – but with their second city mentality, Colorado officials try desperately to outdo the vicious pretentiousness of California every chance they get.
I have been involved in the legal systems of seven or eight, maybe 10 states, as unofficial councilor to people involved in political, civil, and criminal cases in the court systems. I have long since concluded Colorado has the single most corrupted judicial system in the country. That’s saying something, with California and New York in the mix. But there it is. I worked with a guy who was plaintiff in a case in Colorado. The defendant conceded the accuracy of his charges. The judge decided that the plaintiff should pay the defendant’s legal fees. When the astonished plaintiff’s attorney asked why, since the defendant confessed to the allegations, the judge said, well, she apologized for them. I’ll bet you can guess who was the conservative and who, the liberal, in this scenario.
How did this happen? Well, Colorado adopted “merit” selection of judges – which means the governor chooses them rather than the citizens of the state. Of course, the guv has to choose from several proposed by a “non-partisan” panel (which almost always means a Democrat panel approved by NPR). About 12 years ago Colorado went to all mail-in voting and there has not been a Republican governor since. So, the Dem. Governors choose all Dem judges (with a couple of RINOs sprinkled in for plausible deniability) and there you have it – a judiciary that is not concerned with the law in any case tinged with politics, only with delivering the most left-wing outcome possible, no matter how implausible. That is how the state’s Supreme Court tried to throw Trump off the ballot because he participated in an “insurrection.” The good justices of the highest court in the state apparently did not know that “insurrection” has a specific legal meaning – and it is NOT because CNN and MSNBC wants it to be so. Actually, those judges probably did know that, but they did their jobs as Colorado officials see it: deliver the most left-wing outcome possible, no matter how absurd. That was the highest court in the state. Abandon hope, all ye who enter here.
Any political pro – or any law enforcement pro, for that matter, knows what room for mischief it leaves when you destroy the chain of custody. That is what all mail-in voting does. It used to be that to vote, you went in, showed ID, voted, then the ballot was dropped in a locked box with witnesses continually present. That locked box was opened before the same witnesses after voting closed and was counted in the presence of those witnesses. Results were noted and transmitted to the county, along with the raw ballots in sealed pouches. Pretty hard to commit fraud. Ever since the motor voter laws of the 80’s and 90’s every Democrat election proposal has made fraud easier and harder to prove. That is why they can be bat-guano crazy and still win elections. I suspect if you had honest elections, with the same security measures you had in the 60’s, you would be hard-pressed to find 10 blue states in the entire country. But once you allow Democrats to destroy the safeguards ensuring electoral integrity, it is brutally hard to get them back.
Fortunately as the linked article notes, the Trump administration is trying to get Peters transferred to federal custody, perhaps as a witness to election fraud. Cheer them on. I hope the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Dep’t. is quietly and fully investigating the Colorado election and judicial system, including Colorado’s version of Dolores Umbridge, Secretary of State Jena Griswold.

(Or perhaps I should say visiting with y’all, since I’m in Texas right now and reverting to some of my roots. You know, I learned to talk in Birmingham, Alabama. The family moved up to the Chicago area when I was three and a half years old. When I started 1st Grade (didn’t go to Kindergarten) everybody thought two things about me: I was real smart and sure did talk real funny. So, the summer between 1st and 2nd Grades, I decided, “By Gum, I’m going to figure out how to talk Yankee” – and I did. Been going back and forth ever since depending on where I’m at.”
Accents used to be thicker, before the widespread advent of a neutral Midwestern accent used in almost every local news program in the country. When I was 19, two buddies of mine and I went traveling. When we were down south, they hit it off big-time with my cousin (3rd or 4th), Joe Rider (really). Problem was, I don’t think Joe had ever been more than 10 miles outside Birmingham and they could not understand a word each other said. So, I translated for them. As the old joke goes, two regions of the country separated by a common language.
If communication goes out for any length of time, meet outside your local Church at 9 a.m. on Saturday mornings. Tell friends at Church now in case you can’t then. CORAC teams will be out looking for people to gather in and work with.

What the Bishops are doing is so disheartening, until I remember that God always has a plan and I should just pray for their conversion and salvation (and my own, for that matter!). It’s nice to know you are as frustrated as the rest of us, Charlie!

Bravo and bravo, Charlie!! You express so well what many of us are disgusted about regarding the USCCB. Years ago friends and I spoke about how we refused to donate to the annual Bishop’s appeal. It supported too many ultra liberal programs, at least in this diocese. Of course being so near the border, you can guess where some of the money has gone: Catholic Charities buses whisking illegal aliens off in the dead of night, etc. etc. (under Biden’s influx).

Friday afternoon I was hospitalized (intubated in the ICU for a few hours) with low potassium related seizures and heat exhaustion. I’m out now and doing fine. I think co redemptrix is not about Mary, but about who Jesus is. It is similar to the Mother of God which is not about who Mary is so much, but more about who Jesus was (is). He is not just man, but God. Jesus is all grace. So in a sense, Mary co-operated with God and as such, bore all graces which, again, is about who Jesus is. She worked on the same team. A football team has a quarter back and 10 other positions that co-operate with the quarterback. The quarterback cannot win a football game by himself. Are all the other players quarter backs? Of course not. You might say Mary is the center who snapped the ball for the play. The play started with Mary’s cooperation. So maybe the co is more like co-operation. What a privilage she had! Does this make sense? I like that, “if you want to know what God is like, then study Jesus.” This a confirmation for me as I have been in written and constructive dialog with mybrother, brother in law and a friend and I was able to articulate this very thing. It is amazing how Mordor produces so much food for the country. But with Gov. Sauron busily trying to destroy the water supply for all the farmers and ranchers, I doubt it will be that way much longer.

I have contemplated the many new pronouncements in the Church and I can’t help but see how it parallels the progressive movement of the West. With the desire to remove the “archaic” norms of the past they long to bring mankind into an academically designed “now” (whatever that is). The new normal is to think only with your feet firmly planted on academically reasoned thoughts….no mystery, no miracles, no old fashioned devotions.
This line of reasoning would eventually lead to the elimination of much of what the Catholic Church holds to be true for God is all these things AND (true) science but He, being omniscient, is not constrained by any law thus He is the purveyor of the natural and supernatural. Mary’s role in salvation history is both natural and supernatural. The Annunciation and her conception of Jesus was a supernatural event. Her cooperation naturally united her body and Jesus’ body. Supernaturally, she was united to God as His mother making her a Queen to the King of the Universe. We have parallels to this cooperation in Scripture. The Angels cooperated many times in God’s work and this is not contested. Through the Angel in the burning bush God spoke to Moses. (Exodus 3:2). Gabriel proclaimed the Annunciation and the Holy Spirit overshadowed Mary in Jesus’ conception. ( Luke 1:26). These are two very profound events in salvation history. Both times God used both an Angel and a human to do his Will. Moses goes on to craft the Arch of the Covenant and Mary becomes the Arch of the New and everlasting Covenant. The comparison to these two “Arch” are unprecedented. The first Arch was seen as a representation of God’s enduring presence, faithfulness, and guidance for His people. The Ark was considered the dwelling place of God’s presence among His people, with the “Mercy Seat” (the lid of the Ark) being the place where God met with Moses and spoke to him. Mary is considered the second Arch to carry Jesus, who is Emmanuel ” God with us” the fulfilment of the Mercy Seat and the finalization of the Covenant between man and God initiated through the Prophets.
At Fatima Mary told the 3 Shepard children that God wanted to establish devotion to her Immaculate heart to save sinners from going to hell. That’s a rather interesting statement considering Jesus died on the cross to save people from going to hell. Is God initiating a new way to save souls? Obviously not, but according to St Louis de Montfort God has chosen Mary to be His instrument of salvation at the end of time.
Here is one example:
“Satan fears her not only more than angels and men but in a certain sense more than God himself. This does not mean that the anger, hatred and power of God are not infinitely greater than the Blessed Virgin’s, since her attributes are limited. It simply means that Satan, being so proud, suffers infinitely more in being vanquished and punished by a lowly and humble servant of God. …God has given Mary such great power over the evil spirits that, as they have often been forced unwillingly to admit through the lips of possessed persons, they fear one of her pleadings for a soul more than the prayers of all the saints, and one of her threats more than all their other torments.”

The dirty little secret of modern times is that, over the last three or four decades science, itself, has confirmed that (at the least) Intelligent Design is, by far, the most probable explanation for the universe and life. Secularists, playing at being scientists, are doing their best at keeping this under wraps, as they hate the idea that there is likely a God. But the evidence has just gotten so overwhelming that I really doubt they will be able to continue to hide it for much more than another decade. Then all those sneering ignoramuses who refute Christianity by hooting, “I’m a scientist” are goin to end up looking like the most ignorant, pompous, horse’s asses of the 20th and early 21st Centuries.

On Mary’s possible titles, let me add my 2 cents.
First, if we (including I) are confused, then we should come up with clearer titles.
Second, I have one person locally who is a protestant and refuses to even consider Mary or that Mary should be honored. These current titles make the whole problem of Protestant avoidance of Mary worse, because the titles can easily be interpreted as putting Mary on a par with Jesus. It confirms all Protestant misunderstandings and prejudices about Catholics worshipping Mary, which is anathema to them and is part of what keeps us apart.
I vote for titles that say the same but still establish clear focus upward to Jesus. I have no idea what those titles would be. 🙂

Mary and Joseph were Jesus’ #1 & #2 Apostles and Mary was given the job of being Our Spiritual Mother at the foot of the Cross.

As for the USCCB and the bishops, Charlie, I think you are entirely too easy on them and their lieutenants (don’t forget the lieutenants). We will probably never see the current US Government arrest and try them for sedition, treason, trafficking of humans and drugs and military-level terrorists, and massive financial fraud. However, in my opinion that won’t be because they aren’t in fact guilty of directly committing those crimes, nor will it be because they have not RICO-conspired with criminals and traitors and foreign enemies that have done exactly that. It will solely be because our government decides it needs to leave the Bishops of the American Church out of secular justice. The bishops and USCCB and their lieutenants have done truly massive damage to our Church and the laity, to our country, our society, our families, and our children on their own and with others. Fecklessness simply doesn’t cut it. If you of all of us don’t call it what it is, Charlie, how will the laity know how serious the situation is and help God fix the problems?

The protestant dilemma is about EVERYTHING Catholic. Some examples that are NOT about Mary: devotion to saints, sacramentals, birth control, purgatory, praying for the dead, all male Hierarchy, Papal infallibility, etc. Marion dogma is one slice of a long line of complaints. The truth is most Catholics are confused about most of the above practices as well but should we shut it all down because of our ignorance? If these things are true then it’s not up for election but for revelation. Jesus spoke plenty of confusing lines so that even the Apostles asked Him to speak more plainly. But it wasn’t until after Pentecost that the “Helper” lead them to the truth of what He spoke because at that time Jesus said they couldn’t take it. (John 16). Mysteries are just that…a mystery. Adam and Eve wanted hidden knowledge and got nothing but trouble by rebelling against something they would never full understand…God’s ways. Augustine was reprimanded by God for trying to fully understand the Trinity. Job was reprimanded by God for questioning the mystery of suffering. (Jesus knew suffering well beyond Jobs). It is not up to the ordinary Christian to full understand much of what has been said by God, even great saints, theologians and the Magisterium of the Church have had trouble defining these truths. But they should never be abandoned. We must wait until the “fullness of time” readies us to fully understand them.

While Fr. Grounci claims Pope St. John Paull II rejected the idea of a fifth Marian dogma, Pope John Paul did – during his papacy – refer to Our Lady as “Co-Redemptrix.”
The Lady of All Nations (in alleged messages given in Amsterdam) told theologians to carefully interpret her messages so they could understand that a new doctrine was not being introduced, but that its origins are in theological texts, even from centuries ago.
Mark Miravalle, theology professor at Steubenville, has tirelessly promoted the cause for declaring a fifth Marian dogma. Surely the alleged apparitions in Amsterdam have been controversial, being at first unapproved, and then approved, and then again questioned.
In God’s timing, I firmly believe Our Lady will be declared every title she named in the messages given to Ida Peerdeman: Advocate, Co-Redemptrix and Mediatrix of Graces. Pope Francis declared she didn’t want any more titles. Well, maybe she personally didn’t. However, if God ordained this to be so, of course, she who is Full of Grace would give her fiat to any and all that the Father wishes to accomplish… and more fittingly said, what Heaven knows she has accomplished and already celebrates as we live out the process in which we find ourselves as it all unfolds on earth.
Our Lady said that once the fifth Marian dogma is declared, she would be able to open gates allowing graces to descend upon the earth, bringing True Peace to the world. Thus, I expect the declaration of the fifth Marian dogma may well be a sort of Capstone – an end to this era marked by depravity with every kind of evil – and a prized Jewel, representing the launch of a New Beginning.
God’s Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven!!

Bishops and the priests often live in a kumbaya world, especially here in the USA. Out of touch of reality and away from financial burdens and real stress of life. My friend, here in the USA, is a pastor in the Chicago Archdiocese. We were classmates back in the day in Poland in high school. My friend was a below average student. He barely made it. He became a priest here in the USA. Basically from what he says no costs of living, almost all what he makes he can save. Every few months parishioners can admire on Facebook his all-inclusive vacations in exotic places and exquisite cusine he endeavors. Of course, a nice house is already waiting for him in Poland for retirement. Celebrates just few masses per week. Has a few secretaries. His headache is hiring a principal for his parish school whilst I, an honor roll student in his high school class, with some master’s degree in secular world, would be happy to accept a maintenance position in his parish. If not working overtime I wouldn’t be able to feed my family. That’s how it is, and that’s why they’re preoccupied with nonsense like global warming, etc.

Well Judy, this pertains to the Archdiocese Of Chicago. Quite likely it is similar across the states but not sure. Free housing, no utility bills, no property taxes, free meals or an extra stipend towards the meals. I assume the priests in the Chicago Archdiocese are suppossed to pay for their phone bills and car insurance if they want to drive one, but still that would be an expense of perhaps $150-$200 per month…. In Poland priests usually also work full-time at schools teaching religion because they are not salaried for just being a priest/pastor. So comparing duties of the priests here in the USA and in Poland is like comparing somebody working 5 hours per week to somebody working 50 hours per week. Thus out of boredom and wealth my priest friend working in the Archdiocese of Chicago visited Fiji, Australia, India and of course Poland over just past 11 months. Who can beat that?

Charlie I just want to say, what the “hell” is wrong with our bishops!!! You’re right it’s scary!!! 😬. Maybe “hell,” is the proper word I used for I’m scared for them too!😬

But I now fear that those Bishops who value “collegiality” higher than they do doctrinal integrity are in grave danger, as well. It’s time to get right with God, for real. Preening and posturing don’t cut it – and only kindles the Big Guy’s wrath. He will strike far more quickly than you think.”

In October had the honor and pleasure of walking alongside Bishop Strickland and hundreds of other good men marching in Boston for the abolition of abortion. When we reached Boston Common there were several speakers. When Bishop Strickland spoke there were two women behind the barricade that shrieked and howled as if the demons inside them were trying to escape the Bishop’s Holy presence. It is a Blessing to have a good holy Bishop swing his crozier to protect the flock.

Hi all, I don’t know if a separate prayer request section is still used, but I have a request if you’d be so kind. One of our daughters is having a hip replacement surgery Wed and it’s more serious than usual. Would so appreciate prayers for her surgery and recovery. I went through that surgery so well, twice, and she’s much, much younger, so I’m hopeful it will be easier for her.
