When an organization is fractured by deep divisions, I usually encourage a “Don’t spook the horses” policy for about a year. That means make no abrupt changes and lay the groundwork carefully, showing people gently where you intend to lead them. If you first show you are serious, sober, and you care deeply about the people you lead, you will build trust that is needed for you to go forward successfully. At a time when abuses are already widespread and deep, I generally support a more vigorous, bold method of laying out clear priorities and enacting them. The latter method will provoke significant backlash and usually leads to a falling away of many people, but if the organization is in dire peril of losing its identity, I think it the best way forward as it renews, from a smaller base, the original purpose of the organization.

I thought that the hierarchy of the Catholic Church could benefit from the former, rather than the latter, method of going forward. I have to tell you, though, that this horse is officially spooked.

I was encouraged when Pope Leo XIV took the name, “Leo”. Leo XIII was one of the truly great Popes in our history a century and a half ago. At a time of tumultuous social change in the world, Leo XIII directly engaged with the shifting currents, helping Catholics navigate the turbulent waters while staying firmly rooted in Christ, the Gospels, and the Magisterium – and their Catholic identity. Upon further developments, it seems Pope Leo XIV has gotten the change part down, but staying firmly rooted in Christ and His word…not so much.

I was willing to give the benefit of the doubt for Leo’s pagan ice-chunk blessing ceremony as just a dumb mistake. His equating supporting the death penalty for brutal murderers as the same thing as intentionally murdering innocent babies I hopefully chalked up to a dumb, difficult moment comment. When he recently made Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich part of the governing council of Vatican City, I spit up my coffee. Cupich did not require his Priests to say the St. Michael prayer after Mass like mine did: he forbade them from saying it. When Cupich was the Bishop of Spokane, he forbade his Priests from participating in any ’40 Days for Life’ demonstrations. He got enough public backlash he had to rescind that order – but several Priests from that Diocese told me privately that the Chancery made it known that any Priest caught publicly advocating for the life issue would be transferred to outer Mongolia. Bishop Strickland’s message in the link above is right on target – and that good Bishop is more restrained than I am about to be.

Then I found out that the Vatican has established a permanent prayer room for Muslims. Oh, and King Charles III, head of the Anglican Church, was named a confrater of St. Paul Outside the Walls Basilica and given a permanent seat. Oooo…and did I mention the lgbt ‘pilgrimage’ to the Vatican? How about the USCCB’s approving a “gay-washed” version of the Bible? But hey, if you want to celebrate the sacred Latin Mass at the Vatican you have to get special permission. If you want to publicly say the St. Michael prayer in Chicago, keep it out of the Church. The newest member of the governing council of Vatican City says so. Unless there is an abrupt and complete about face, I think the direction of this papacy has revealed itself.

I pray I am wrong, for having back-to-back anti-Catholic bigots in the Chair of Peter would be a lot to bear. But actions speak louder than words – and personnel is policy…so it is hard to come to another conclusion right now. When everybody is welcomed to the Vatican except practicing Catholics who live traditional, sacred devotions and forms of worship, what else can you conclude? I am so sick of the Vatican putting abortion advocates on Pontifical Councils, telling us how active homosexuality is no big deal, and that radical Islam is just misunderstood – while ruthlessly attacking actual Catholics who follow the Gospels and the Magisterium.

I am also sick of the Vatican talking out their pieholes about science, economics, and public policy that they don’t bother to know much about and have no authority over – but speak thunderingly about while neglecting the fundamental foundations of the faith. We are told we don’t have time to worry about salvation when we have to worry about climate change – and next to none of them know the mean temperature on earth, while cyclic, has barely changed in a century and a half, the “hockey stick” has been proven to be a hoax, and the ice caps are actually expanding. Meantime, while maintaining some of the stiffest penalties in the world for anyone who tries to migrate to Vatican City illegally, the Pope tells the American taxpayer it is our duty to pay for all the ills in the world and take in everyone anytime, regardless of whether they are murderers, rapists and ruffians. The Vatican has become far too similar to the religious authorities who Jesus condemned for tying up heavy, burdensome loads for others while not lifting a finger to help, themselves. I am SO done with it.

You have got a big contingent (not a majority, I don’t think) of Bishops who clearly want to overthrow Christ and the Apostles and set up shop on their own very pernicious terms. I have concluded that a big chunk of Bishops do not believe in God at all…but just want to leverage the prestige and influence of the Church for their own ends. That is why the Church has lost so much prestige and influence of late. They want to “celebrate” what Christ and the Apostles forbade. The way to be a good Catholic, they tell us, is not to be so Catholic. No, no, no, no, no…no more.

I am Catholic because I believe Scripture and the actual Magisterium. I believe the Church holds the fullness of the Deposit of Faith in trust until Christ comes again. I came into the Church under the reign of St. John Paul the Great. If I were just discerning now, I fear I might not know the beauty and truth of the Magisterium, because the public pronouncements of so many authorities are so disgusting or utterly banal. I don’t know if I would look hard at the theological underpinnings of the faith now – because so many of its leaders are so pathetic and repulsive. I am sick to death of being governed by whited sepulchres, men who shut the Kingdom of Heaven in men’s faces, neither going in themselves while preventing others from going in.

One would think that the men who emptied altars across the world to curry favor with a completely corrupted “science” and political authority would take that as a cue that maybe they do not know so much as they think about things they have no authority over – and get back to the business of faith, morals and salvation. But here we are, obliquely pushing active homosexuality, transgenderism, and abortion while submitting to the pernicious notion that sexuality is the center of life and lust is the same thing as love. In fairness, the hierarchy has never been particularly competent or knowledgeable about secular things. After all, these same men agreed to enforce the “settled science” that the universe revolved around the earth a few centuries back. And they let nearly a third of Europe be taken by a Muslim war of extinction against Christianity before mounting a serious effort to fight back and protect their Christian flock.

I contemplate why God allows a certain type of abuse to prevail at a particular time in salvation history. God always has a plan to channel the just into what is right and true without interfering with our free will – and God never fails. So, surely,  this is His means for accomplishing something greater. For some time I have thought God has been exposing the cupidity, vanity, mediocrity, and incompetence of many of our spiritual leaders for a specific purpose.

I think that, from the start, God intended that His Church have a spiritual arm (the hierarchy) and a temporal arm. Originally, the temporal arm was the Holy Roman Empire. Except for a brief period, it was incredibly weak, usually lacking influence and coherence. I think God is exposing that hierarchs, no matter how it enthuses them, are not suited to acting as temporal leaders or even, for that matter, competent temporal analysts. So, God is preparing the ground for the Resurrection of the Church’s temporal arm. I have thought about that hard for several years. I will write about it soon. Though I think it will be raised anew abruptly, it is not like anyone now imagines it will be. (Kind of like how all of Israel expected the Messiah to be a political and military leader.) The point is, there is a specific Divine Purpose to what is now being allowed. Hang tight, keep the ancient faith, and you will live to see the Church fully reunited east and west with both its spiritual and temporal arms working in tandem.

A lot of people are not expecting the Middle East peace to hold. Though I think Hamas consists of rabid, murderous death culters, despite what they do, I DO expect that a whole new chapter in the Middle East has opened up. I just don’t think most folks understand what American Pres. Donald Trump actually accomplished. After blowing out Iran and its “H” proxies (Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis), Trump got most of the Arab and Muslim world to enthusiastically sign on to the agreement. The dirty little secret in the Middle East has long been that the only countries more hostile to the Palestinians than Israel are the Arab countries. Trump put together a way the Arabs can stand in solidarity against the sort of destabilization Iran proxies have brought to the Middle East without serious blowback from other Muslims. Israel may have to destroy Hamas, but it is largely Arab states who now have a huge stake in putting an end to the Palestinians perpetual war with Israel.

The peace will hold by Hamas and the Palestinians giving up their aspirations to destroy Israel…or it will hold by Hamas being utterly destroyed while other Arab nations give a hearty thumbs up. A new day has dawned in the Middle East.

If the radical Jihadists want to reconstitute their forces, they will do it in Western Europe, which fecklessly thought the way to peace was by appeasing terrorists and letting them invade their host countries. That is a story for another day.

The “No Kings” protests were certainly much ado about nothing. Organizers originally said that seven million people participated. After it was shown that media had been showing pictures and videos of events from as long as eight years ago to try to prop up a modest turnout, organizers reduced their claims to between two and three million.

All my life, if you get 10 liberals together with pre-printed signs, the captive establish media has called it a “spontaneous protest of hundreds of people.” Get 50,000 people at the annual March for Life in Washington, and the same idiot media calls it hundreds and carefully avoids showing any crowd shots. Based on that history, I’m guessing several hundred thousand participated.

Based on interviews of attendees, it was a protest about nothing. Many protesters could not say what they were actually mad about in any specific terms…just the usual howls of misery.

It got me to thinking that we are in the middle of what, temporally, is the equivalent to an exorcism. The demon in a possessed person is most violent and performative after it is found and is being banished, howling with rage at losing its power over a person. These performative protests are not shows of strength; they are expressions of rage at the tyrannical left losing its power over our culture. If I ran into a protester, I think I would just smile and say, “The power of Christ compels you!”

To avoid making ourselves vulnerable to a renewed push of satanic lust for power, money, and deviant sex after banishing the current banshees, we MUST have a great revival of Christian fervor and commitment throughout our culture. It was what made America great – and the great bastion of freedom, in the first place. That will take a lot of work. If a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, let me humbly offer a first step: dress up for Church on Sunday. Men, wear a jacket and tie. Ladies, wear a modest dress or skirt suit. Let us act like we mean it when we say we are going to worship the King of the Universe.

Don’t let circumstances keep you away from Church. During my pilgrimage, when I had the opportunity to go to Church on Sunday, I often had to go in jeans or even shorts…for it was all I had with me. But if you can, dress like you are going to meet the King. Because you are. And others will know how serious we are about this when we cheerfully act like it.

  1. You’ve laid it all out as we’ve clearly seen things develop with Pope Leo XIV, Charlie. It was the icecapade blessing that cemented for me the, formerly, growing sense of doom and deep disappointment because we’re in trouble with Leo. After that event, I did a brief search for the key tenets of Liberation Theology and found the following list (AI) which well describes Leo’s M.O.

    Preferential option for the poor: This is the central belief that God has a special concern for the poor and oppressed, and that religious institutions should prioritize their needs and struggles.

    Justice and liberation from oppression: It posits that spiritual salvation is incomplete without liberation from social, economic, and political injustices, seeing these as forms of structural and institutional violence.

    Praxis: Liberation theology emphasizes that right action (praxis) is more fundamental than right belief (orthodoxy). This means living out faith through active involvement in the struggle for justice is essential to understanding scripture.

    Critique of power structures: It uses social analysis, sometimes including Marxist theory, to critique existing power structures and ideologies that perpetuate inequality and oppression.

    ** Contextual theology:** Theology should not be imposed from above but should emerge from the lived experiences of the oppressed. This is often referred to as the theology of the oppressed and relies on basic Christian communities as the source for theological reflection. 

    I imagine many have seen this assessment: Leo dresses like Benedict and thinks like Francis.  

    Thank you, Charlie, for taking this to the contemplation level while proclaiming continued trust in the Lord and His purpose(s) for what He allows in order to accomplish greater deeds.

Instead of leaving the church, I double down to stay.  I truly believe it is Christ’s church.  As Peter says, “Lord, where else shall we go?  You have the words of eternal life.”  The catechism says the church will go through a crusifixion.  I do not think we will get out easy.  I endeaver to remain faithful and pray for our restoration.  It is my family and I pray for my family.  I think we will need each other as we continue to go through these turbulant times.—- Sent from Doug’s Back Pack

Oh gosh Charlie, this was not about you at all.  I said this for others benefit who might be considering to leave.  I see other folks leave the church over stuff like this.  I always wonder if they were using this as an excuse because they want to leave anyway.  It cuts to the heart when I see folks leave because of something like this.  It actually makes me more determined to stay the course.  The church needs our prayers.  I am also reading that it appears more priests entering seminary are conservative or maybe orthodox.  This gives me hope.  —- Sent from Doug’s Back Pack

  4. Charlie, thanks for addressing the issue of the Mideast peace agreement. I have been watching that and working toward the same belief as yours, that it will work, at least in part because he has given all the major leaders *and* most of their citizens economic reasons to sign on. He’s given them a different dream.

    I see Trump and Mohammed bin Salman looking and feeling like brothers on this very effort, and it will largely work.

    I’ve been wondering if you would say this agreement is actually the Confrontation of Islam that sets it toward its great religious diminishment that you have spoken of in the past. Or perhaps it is one of now two major turning points, this being moving the Middle East from religion-based to mercantile-based approaches and attitudes, with the second turning point being Reconquista 2.0 in Europe.

    That latter is yet to come, but perhaps now we can hope it might be easier to get through and less bloody, if only because economic success for normal muslims could soon become far more attractive in their home countries, encouraging a positive outflow from Europe rather than requiring a bloody push.

    Meanwhile, I assume that the work of Jesus and Mary throughout the mideast to convert muslims to Christianity will now continue and possibly become easier. If the economics of the area improve and the leaders like MbS continue to work to calm things down, we may soon see an increasing chance for secret Christians to begin to come out and build churches. As that becomes more public, we could see a Cascade Effect of the Christians opening up more and more, and then creating a movement that would pull in those who are still muslims.

    Regardless, it is a huge change in world history. We don’t know the knock-on effects yet, but I think they will be quite significant.

  6. Thanks as always Charlie, for expressing some of the frustrations the rest of us are fretting about. Something that happened a day or so ago illustrates what I’ve been feeling. I read about a young Marine, just a kid, working at night as an Uber driver to support his mother and sister. He picked up what turned out to be about 3 thugs, who killed him and took his car. I related the story to my husband and started crying, and said “why doesn’t God come sooner and stop this evil happening to good people?” I was so frustrated, but that was just the catalyst for a bit of crying.

  8. With all the ” winning ” we are experiencing with President Trump, the disappointment with the Church has become even more intolerable. Those behind the scenes that are outing the traditionalist and installing progressives are overwhelming the hierarchy everywhere and we are seeing this around the world. But God has promised that a remnant will always remain even though Jesus said ” when the son of man returns, will their be faith left on earth”. Pope Benedict XVl said that the Church would become smaller but more faithful. His prophecy, I fear, is at hand. The Warning will be a welcome event but just like the resurrection, possibly a slow return to sanity in the world.

  9. My non Catholic family are baffled why I chose the Catholic faith in the face of all of these (and past) public actions of our leaders. Before I converted to the Catholic faith in 2018, I believed that the Church fully supported abortion, and that was a cause for great concern. Now that I am firmly rooted in what the Catholic Faith actually teaches, where would I go? The Sacraments and the fullness of our faith has delivered me from great trial and tribulation in my life. Without the Sacraments, I would not have the strength nor fortitude to perservere in the midst of great adversity. Come, Holy Spirit. Renew the face of the earth!

  12. That which happened among the angels in the heavens above are a prefigurement to that which will happen among humanity on the Earth below. There can be no résurrection if there was no death. The fallen angels do not have a corporeal form nor linear time, thence they could not change from their chosen path. Humanity has both. Satan rebels, chose to fight then fled. Adam rebelled and hid, but then chose to face God despite his sins. Let humanity choose whom they whom they will follow. Let there be two camps. Let there be the Church verse the Anti-Church and Christ versé the Antichrist. Let the flaming sword from on High touch the Earth below, let the light of Christ forever scatter the darkness of Satan, let it be on Earth that which is Heaven.

  13. Amy and I went to Rome last week to walk through the Holy Doors and pray. We, by God’s grace, accomplished our task despite many challenges. We were in St Paul Outside the Walls a week ago today. We by ‘chance’ met Cardinal Harvey, the Archpriest there and talked with him and received a Blessing as well, for which we are truly grateful. I told him we were not in Rome to see “old stones and bones,” but to make pilgrimage to the holy places and pray. I will continue to pray for him and Pope Leo, and may God have mercy on us all!

    When Robert Prevorst stepped onto the balcony as the successor to Pope Francis, who was in many ways a heretic, I intuitively sensed that this man was simply a continuation of the Francis Papacy. In fact, he was selected (and not “elected”) by a hierarchy with the heretic Blaze Cupich orchestrating Prevorst as the successor to Francis. Where the rest of the world was elated, I knew that this man was going to continue the agenda of the antipope Francis. You yourself humbly concede that you really haven’t paid much attention to what has been going on the Roman Catholic world, as your great expertise is really in your erudite analysis of our past and present American political experience. Believe me when I say that what is taking place in the Vatican Curia at this time, especially now with Pope Leo’s heavy lifting toward a new “Synodal Church,” is simply a fulfillment of Blessed Ann Catherine Emmerich’s heavenly vision a new perverted man made church. It is an apostate church soon now being foisted on the Catholic faithful. And the third secret of Fatima is a buttress to Blessed Ann’s prophetic vision of this man made church.

    I would strongly encourage you (if you haven’t already) and many others in the CORAC community to subscribe to substacks of Chris Jackson’s “Haerith in Exile”, Ann Barharndt, Stephen Kokx or The Catholic Esquire on Youtube, just to name a few. What your expertise is able to grasp about our political system, the above individuals do the same in their penetrating analysis about the heresy now being formalized by a heretical hierarchy and papacy, which has it’s original roots in the historical event of Vatican II. You will be enlightened and deeply disturbed when you begin to see just how great the cancer of heresy has spread in the Body of Christ here on earth. You only have to see what took place a month ago in St. Peter’s Basilica to see what the stewards of Satan are doing in the Vatican. Weep and read, my esteemed brother, Charlie, Weep and read.

    1. Hey Charlie, good to hear from you. I must correct one mistake: I said I largely ignored what Pope Francis said in his last few years, not what was happening at the Vatican. I do a one and a half to three hour briefing every morning on global affairs, Church affairs, national affairs, and local affairs. In a moment of pique when some other outrage was coming from the Vatican, I may have said that I don’t pay attention to that, so you may be right that I said that once, but I sure did not convey the context to you well.

      It’s funny…10 years ago I was being denounced by some for being an alarmist because of my description of the Storm. Yet it happened as I said it would, though some things, though right, were right in a way that no one, including me, suspected. Now I am being denounced by some as being a “pollyanna,” not seeing how bad things are. I’ll stick with what I am given and the conclusions I draw from my contemplation.

      I am familiar with (and have read) the authors you recommend. Some of them just interpret everything through the most negative possible construction they can. I do not do that. I will freely concede I initially interpret everything in the most positive construction I can. If you would be an enemy of the faith, you have to prove it to me. And I never trust gut feelings – or even actual visitations – without much contemplation and prayer. Surely you know the devil is trying to steer you wrong all the time…and whatever you might think, no one is immune to that except after prayer, contemplation, and fasting.

      I DO trust that God is always arranging things for our good, including offenses and scandals. So I often contemplate on what God is doing by allowing particular offenses to prevail for a while. Despite my irritation, I am not convinced that Pope Leo is going to be a bust just yet. Things could unfold in four ways:

      1) This could be a veer to the left to mollify the rebels – and further isolate them. I consider that the least likely option, but I HAVE used it before to isolate and put an arrogant problem into a spot of prominence where he is likely to offend so I could rid myself completely of him and fix the problem quickly.

      2) If Pope Leo is just a continuation of Pope Francis and persists in it, his will be a brief papacy and the next Pope will be a truly holy one.

      3) If Pope Leo is a continuation of Francis, he may very well have a road to Damascus event and become the truly holy Pope we have in our future.

      4) God may have something up His sleeve that none of us have thought of yet. But I DO trust that God is always acting for the good of those who love Him – and my interpretive lens rests on that without pretending that evil is actually good.

      I get people all the time telling me of how deficient I am in my takes. Usually it is just them trying to browbeat me into taking their position – to give their position more credibility. I’ll be arrogant for a moment and ask you a question: Who, in the world, over the last 12 years, has told you truer than I have what to expect?

      I was right when I said great trials were headed our way and described broadly what those trials would look like. I am content that I am telling you true now when I say that God is working RIGHT NOW to renew the faith and face of the world. We have only to cooperate with Him. And I very rarely weep, so I will just continue on my pilgrim way.

      1. I absolutely agree, Charlie. God is definitely moving in the world and has been for 2 decades, both throughout the Middle East and here in the US since Obama’s first term. Many, many signs of this. I’m not sure about Europe, but Russia has moved quickly. Elsewhere the signs are more hidden or small to me, so I can’t say for sure.

  17. I recently had a disruption in internet service both at home and at work. It had something to do with Amazon and its services which I assume are AI driven. The Google platforms were not working correctly at work.

    It is easy to see how communication could easily fall apart.

    I feel that we are currently slaves to technology.

    How wonderful it would be to see a true peace in the Middle East. But the world is now a tinderbox. One bonfire may extinguish and another will erupt. It could happen anywhere.

    Many, many people are really feeling the effects of rising prices on just about everything. I am afraid this will be the driving force of any elections in November. A lot of people feel helpless.

    Prayer and the rosary are our weapons against the evil of the day, but it is hard to see how any of us will avoid turmoil.

    It is said that, if we are living now, then we were made for these times. I do not know about that. Is anyone really ‘ready’?

    Charlie said that is has been a tough year for all. That is for sure. And the horizon is looking like it is full of storms which are coming from every direction.

    May Christ have mercy on us all.

    1. The best kind of ready is relying completely on God while doing the little we’re called to do that’s right before us, Judy. We simply do not have even tomorrow’s grace until tomorrow. This is all too big for any one of us, but together (every ordinary person willing to sing by taking each NRS in the ballad) – with Christ at the center – IS doable, but only day by day. And when the going is roughest, it may well be necessary to live it hour by hour. Throughout the ages, humans have faced what seemed impossible in the moment. All the Saints and Angels are willing and waiting for us to call upon their intercession.
