All Will be Well and All Manner of Things Will be Well

Thank you for all your prayers. Keep it going. Gabriel will be okay.

He was at a neighbor’s house, playing. The neighbor has five kids. One of them is a special needs child. For some unfathomable reason, the family had a loaded rifle sitting unattended on a table.

Gabriel was playing a game on his phone, heard a loud pop and suddenly his shoulder felt like it was on fire. He looked up and saw the barrel of the gun pointed at him, still smoking, in the special needs child’s hands. He looked down and saw blood all over the place. The bullet hit in his upper right chest and broke his shoulder bone. 

They had to give him transfusions when he got to the hospital because he had lost so much blood. It did not hit any major nerve bundles, so the outlook now is that he will recover with full use of his arm. They initially had to check to see if any fragments of bone or bullet had hit his heart. It looks like none of his vital organs was compromised. 

I thank you tremendously for your outpouring of prayer – and I think good St. Gabriel was watching out for his young namesake. There are things to be dealt with here…and they will be. It puzzled me a bit that this should all develop as I was at the one place I have been since September where I did not have cell reception. But as I often say, “I don’t know what you are doing, God, but I know you do.” And then I just endeavor to take the next right step. 

I will let you know as things arise. I thank God for you. It has been both a productive – and a rough – weekend.

    P.S. The number of disasters happening all the time now is amazing. We are in it—at least the beginnings of it. It may still take time before we are fully in it. I’m dreading the refuges. They are going to be very hard on people like me who live totally alone. It is still the best option, so I will do my best, I pray!

    1. I’m with you, Kristen. Just hearing about this, so my prayers are beginning and continuing for continued and complete healing of Gabriel. And oh my, that poor child who shot him! That will be so hard for a special needs child to deal with. And the child’s parents…Nothing ever affects just one person. My next Rosary for Gabriel and all.

Thank you, Jesus, for answering so many prayers for this young man. May he heal completely and quickly. Prayers continue! (Also, for the child who shot the gun.)

  21. Charlie, I was there visiting with you yesterday and am shocked to hear about your grandson. Thanks and glory be to our Savior Jesus Christ for his safety and protection. I pray for the love and comfort of Jesus to be with you, your daughter, and Gabriel. I pray that Jesus will be found and felt by all involved in this incident and that your grandson will turn to and find Him at this time. Peace be with you and your family.

  36. Charlie, that is about as miraculous as such an event can be. To be shot at close range and live, no major organ damage, full recovery probable, wow, that is amazing. I will continue praying for his full recovery and for your daughter and the Johnston family.

  37. So true steve. As a hunter, I’ve seen the way bullets damage tissue and organs and how devastating these traumas look. Bullets turn tissue and bone into shrapnel and widen the wound channel exponentially causing a lot more damage than just the diameter of the bullet. I’ve always warned my kids that a gun was made for one reason….to kill, so surviving a rifle wound is truly a miracle.
