Golden, Colorado –(I first posted the following article on November 20, 2015. I caught a lot of flack for it, despite a certain delicacy in my candor. We are governed by unserious people. The media consists almost entirely of unserious people. All the institutions we once relied upon and trusted are now run by unserious people. Unserious people are incapable of making rational decisions. They run like scalded dogs from hard decisions, desperately trying to blame someone else for the disasters their cupidity for raw power without competence brings. They bury themselves in busy, irrelevant work while avoiding serious matters. This way they can tell you they are “saving the planet” when you question why everything gets worse for you when their silly policies are adopted. 

Now is a time for serious people. I suspect that the Hamas Massacre of innocent Israelis (including beheading Jewish babies) is the beginning of Islam’s attempt to impose a global caliphate and wipe out all who are not Muslim. It will fail miserably but, oh, a lot more atrocities will come before Islam is defeated. And the longer we indulge unserious, “kumbaya”-style leaders and officials, the more innocents will be maimed, tortured, and killed. The atheist left in this country is guilty of cultural myopia – they can’t imagine anyone could be motivated by anything other than their own shabby motivations, They believe if you reward evil and punish good you will get less evil and more good. That is sheer idiocy. 

The question, then, is how many in the world have to be slaughtered before normal people get fed up enough that they purge the unserious people who have taken control of the machinery of American government? Must American innocents get slaughtered in their homes before people get serious? The actions we take in the next few months will decide how brutal this will become. If the worthless garbage in government and the media succeed in their “both sides” bleating or their plea to understand the terrorists, we have a very bloody year ahead of us. It will come to our shores, become a conflagration in Europe, and plunge us all into World War III. As I said when I first wrote the piece below, this is the beginning of a conversation, not the end. The only thing I have changed my mind about is Item four in the end list. At the time I still had confidence in the FBI. Now, relying on it for protection is like relying on the Gestapo for fairness. People in all cultures reach out to God – usually in the way they are taught. It is instinctive to us to want to know, love and serve our Creator. Most people, even if errant, are sincere in that desire. We are all embedded with a desire for the good, as well. To care for each other, love our neighbor…so we have tools to approach the throne of God even if our basic knowledge and wisdom is deficient.

Most Muslims, like other peoples, want to reach out to God…and do so in the way they were taught. Most would like to do so without the bloodshed, coercion and oppression. In fact, I suspect that many Muslims who emigrated to America over the years came specifically because they wanted to reach out to God in a way that was familiar to them, but without the violence and oppression. America, a land that guaranteed human rights, must have seemed the perfect place to do that. But America betrayed them. In America rose a toxic notion of tolerance, a notion that first enabled, then celebrated and favored cultural practices that were inimical to the values of freedom. This new American “tolerance” empowered the very brutes those Muslims came to escape – and all in the name of tolerance.

Up until 9-11, I considered Islam one of the three great monotheistic religions. It was not the actions of the terrorists that roused my suspicions, but the silence or obfuscation of the rest of Islam on the matter. If a group of Catholics had done that, I knew my Church would immediately rise in righteous anger to denounce the terrorists, to condemn them and proclaim excommunication on any who adopted such poisonous doctrines contrary to the faith. That did not happen with Islam. About the best they could muster was the “street-gang” defense: “It wasn’t us.” – denying personal responsibility while remaining ambivalent – and often excusing – the act.

It was that disturbing episode that led me to study the Koran. It is not very large…only about the length of the Psalms. I was stunned. I had heard all the quotations “proving” that Islam was a religion of peace. It was a shell game. To simplify, the Koran has two very different sets of rules, one for fellow Muslims and another for infidels. All the quotations supporting the “religion of peace” fantasy come from sections on how to treat fellow Muslims with whom you are in conflict. The rules for infidels are that they must convert or die. The only wiggle room is how long you give them to convert before you kill them. Even more shocking, all manner of brutalities against them, including torture, rape and murder – even against children – are not forbidden but are, in fact, considered blessed acts. When Muslim terrorists attacked the Beslan School in Russia in 2004, I stunned some of my friends when I said the Muslims would torture and rape some of the children. They accused me of bigotry – until it happened. Then they asked how I knew. I told them it is in the Koran – and I had read it. My study of the Koran had led me to the shocking realization that the terrorists WERE the expression of authentic Islam.

To be sure, the Hadith are important in Islam. These are commentaries written after the Koran, by various Islamic scholars, purporting to give additional words of Muhammed not included in the Koran. Some of those scholars made attempts to try to soften the clear homicidal bent of the Koran towards non-Muslims. Yet the Koran remains – and it is binding, no matter how much some of the Hadith tries to square the circle.

The great Christian writer and historian, Hilaire Belloc, argued that Islam is not a unique religion at all, but a singularly perverse Christian heresy. Belloc was an occasional collaborator with G.K. Chesterton and was president, for a time, of the Oxford Union. While I think his case is somewhat overstated, it carries deep insight into the historical phenomenon which is Islam. Certainly Islam recognizes but one God, emphasizes that man is to serve him, and posits an afterlife. Other than that, the differences are more striking than the similarities.

In Islam, God is a distant, alien thing. There is –and can be – no kinship between man and God whatsoever. The relationship is that of master to a dog, with a master who encourages a brutal viciousness in his dogs. There is no spark of divine dignity in any human, even the holiest of Muslims. They are either good pets to their malignant master or they are not. People are ever treated like things. This is how you get “honor killings” of family members for various – mainly sexual – transgressions. But those sexual rules only apply to women. A sister who has been raped is “broken, like a plate,” as I heard one moderate Muslim man describe it. She is no good anymore and must be discarded. Islam is a religion of appetites, not transcendent aspirations. It is a religion of rules, not of principles of morality. There is no kinship between God and man. Even the supposed rewards of the afterlife are purely temporal in nature – and still treat women as things. The great Muslim warrior supposedly gets 72 virgins to do with as he will. What, precisely, does a Muslim virgin get other than a vicious man?

G.K. Chesterton once said that the man who is intellectually serious about his faith must “either ascend into Catholicism or descend into disbelief.” While that may be overstated, too, it presumes that a man starts from a spark of truth to begin his inquiries. If your image of God is not as Father, as the source of good, but instead as a demanding, petulant murderer, you are severely handicapped in your search. I have said – and maintain – that most Muslims honestly want to know, to love and to serve God in peace with their fellows. I have also said – and maintain – that Islam, itself, is a satanic deception. In that sense, Belloc is absolutely right that it is one of the greatest of the heresies.

Our challenge then is to evangelize Muslims where we can and defeat Islam where we cannot. Christians can be terribly naieve. We think we have been at peace with Islam for much of the last few centuries, with some sporadic hostilities. We have not. Islam’s aim has always been to conquer the world and wipe out any remnants who will not convert. It has occasionally been engaged in strategic armistices with the west, but has been at war with it since late in Muhammed’s life. Ultimately, it will only accept victory or death.

I never propose that Christians should act with coercive aggression, even with Islam. If an Islamic nation is willing to live within its borders and maintain peace with its neighbors, it should be left alone. But the robust vigor of St. Joan of Arc and the best of the Christian Crusaders is my model for how Christians should behave in defending their faithWhile yet a teenage girl, St. Joan of Arc was sent by God to rescue France from annihilation. and lands against military assault. Understand that Islam is starkly different than Christianity in how it defines the role of the state and the citizen to religion. In Christianity, individual conscience is respected. The state is expected to act justly, according to transcendent principles that guard human liberty. In Islam, religion, politics and ideology are inextricably entwined. There is no freedom of conscience, only religious rules that must be ruthlessly imposed in all walks of life.

I see myself quoted frequently as saying that Our Lady of Tepeyac is going to convert the Muslims en masse. That is true, but only half of what I have said about the matter. I say that Our Lady will, indeed, convert Islam, mainly through its women, but not until we in the west confront it seriously, both militarily and intellectually. Then it will collapse on itself quicker and more easily than anyone can imagine.

All democracies before America ultimately degenerated into chaos, then dictatorship. Because of our success, we have completely lost sight that democracy is one of the most unstable forms of government ever devised. The genius of the founders was primarily in introducing stabilizing elements into the mix, elements that we have systematically and slowly dismantled over the last century or so. The system I would adopt presupposes at least a temporary absolutism. We are headed in that direction. Pray that whoever the absolutist leader is is committed to faith, family and freedom – and that after clearing away the cultural, ideological and structural brush and deadwood that has accumulated, he will return to us a system that is based on our foundational principles.

This is what I would do:

  1. Declare America formally a Judeo-Christian country that is open and tolerant to all people of goodwill, whatever their faith. No unit of government and no official can ban public or private displays and expressions of Christian or Jewish faith. No institution shall coerce any non-Christian into participation of public expressions.
  2. Do not allow Islamic terrorists to hide behind human shields in their own countries any more. Protect civilians in hostile zones by giving them frequent warnings that if terrorists have embedded themselves among them, they need to eject them or get out – because we are coming.
  3. Forget about notions of proportionality. If hostile powers insist on targeting the west or western citizens, the only acceptable solution is their unconditional surrender or their destruction. Continue pounding them until one or the other has been accomplished.
  4. Send FBI agents to watch over every mosque in the country. If worshippers do not incite violence, leave them be. If they do, shut them down. In the 50s and 60s, some racial supremacists used churches as cover for their nefarious schemes. The FBI shut down such covers while respecting the right of innocents to worship. We have a much larger, malignant force using some mosques as cover. End it.
  5. Sharia law is incompatible with freedom and American principles. Outlaw it throughout the country. Remove it root and branch anywhere it appears. Deport any who scream about it.
  6. A false dualism has arisen over the matter of refugees. Taking them in here or leaving them to die are not our only options. We have had such situations before – and in the Middle East. We can work to set up refugee camps in the Middle East to receive and house the refugees without endangering our population in a time of war. If that is not sufficient, we can find geographic locations elsewhere where western citizens are not endangered and then commit to humanitarian assistance.

There is a great deal of confusion and misinformation being spread – and even shrewd people don’t seem to notice. I watched a segment of Fox News where a conservative host conceded a liberal guest’s point that current rules require two years before a Syrian Refugee can be integrated into the U.S. The next segment announced that 351 such refugees have been integrated into the U.S. this month – and it did not even occur to the host to ask how that could be since it has not been two years. Be deliberate. Don’t let emotion blind you to obvious questions. Bad information leads to bad policy. Steady on.

Charlie, Thank you for your accurate reading of the Koran; Indeed, it is a religion of kindness to fellow Moslems; however, it directs Moslems to appear peaceful and friendly to infidels who possess superior strength, but at any point when Moslems have superior strength, then they are required to subjugate the infidel, either giving them time to convert, or killing them if they refuse. Our stupid, ignorant mass media continue to blather that Islam is a peaceful religion, so that terrorist behavior, such as demonstrated by ISIS and Hamas, is an aberration– it is not any aberration but instead carryies out the direction to subjugate or kill the infidel.

    Calling our Democrat led executive branch, and their cronies in the media, corporations, and universities merely “unserious” is far to kind. Biden, Pelosi, and the Clintons have been actively and publicly corrupt in using their positions to gain power and money at the expense of the public good. The universities, teachers’ unions, corporations with lobbyists, and media all go along with the corrupt Democrats to gain their share of the loot. Many religious leaders also go along with the Democrats (who are now essentially Socialists) to maintain their tax-free status, and they too are corrupt.

    Your guidance is valid, if too bold for the generations post WWII children who are too soft, and have absorbed the propaganda from their educators (teachers, professors, schools and universities) who disparage our history, government, Capitalism of free enterprise, and faith in God our Creator.

    Re the current warfare in the ME, I expect that Hezbollah will wait until there is sufficient images of casualties from Gaza to justify launching their missiles into Israel. Iran is the head of the snake, so Israel may at that point nuc Iranian bomb and missile facilities, bomb military installations, and oil fields. Tuesday, Biden continued publicly to hope that Iran would be our partner for peace that Obama worked on– so he made no mention that Hamas was funded, armed, and directed by Iran, as if paying ransom to Iran to behave civilly could still work. Our Administration is willfully ignorant or in denial about what the Koran directs virtuous Moslems to do to the infidel. So, when Israel strikes at Iran, what will the USA do?

    As for myself, at 85 I’m in the final stages of prostate cancer, so may not see what happens next. I do hope that Charlie will continue to provide his wise guidance.

  5. Yesterday there was a vile pro-Hamas rally in Dearborn, a Detroit suburb 85 miles from where I live. Hundreds of people showed up and cheered the slaughter of Jews. I wonder at what point they’ll start acting out against the Jews in the Detroit area, and also when they’ll decide to start targeting Catholic churches (because I really believe that that is also coming). The only beef that I have with the otherwise excellent bishop of my diocese is that he has forbidden the carrying of firearms on church property. We’re sitting ducks if a murder-minded perp ever shows up at Mass.

    May God have mercy on and protect Israel, the US, and all people of good will.

    2. Mick, that’s to bad about your very liberal bishop! At our parish, we worship very earnestly, knowing we do not have to concern ourselves about our personal safely. Our guys are carrying, aware and ready. Praise God we never have had an incident, and God willing, will never have to call on our menfolk.

      1. Nance, I apologize if I gave the impression that my bishop is liberal; he’s not at all. He loves God and Holy Mother Church, he has been a true shepherd and father to us in the diocese, and I am certain that he would choose martyrdom rather than deny the Faith or betray Holy Mother Church. In the fifteen years that he has been the our bishop, his prohibition of the carrying of guns on church property is the only thing I have disagreed with him on.

          But, His Eminence DID say no more gun raffles by our churches – or on church property. this is sad, as they are/were very lucrative!

          Like the homemade “grape juice” we auction, we do still have “gift certificates” to the local gun shop.

          In case it works for anyone else, we do 50 guns for 100 dollars, and sell only 500 tickets. When they draw your name, you get that gun, but your name goes back into the pot – so you might win again. Each week we draw one name. Now that our church can’t do it, other local orgs are picking up the slack.

    2. Amen, St. Judith. Already a radically (hah!) different world to that of only 8 years ago when Charlie first wrote this. Although, as we were warned, all the signs were there for those with eyes to… etc.

      Already that year, in this septic isle, “we” had voted to defile marriage – to the cheers of The World. Three years later, in 2018, child-slaughter was implemented to more delirious applause. The gadarene rush to perdition has only accelerated ever since. The abortion rate is huge, proportionally speaking, and the mad bolshevist fringe-loonies who seem to control what passes for politics are pushing for it to be extended up to birth. I’m personally appalled but unsurprised, as it was clear this was always the endgame – and am certainly not despairing despite the gloomy tone.

    1. God bless you, CrewDog. You’re right: head on a swivel. And while I am (at least currently) stowing my Glock in my locked car during Mass, I’m pretty sure that there are people who are still carrying in the churches notwithstanding what our bishop has said.

      I am praying that God please let me know if I should continue to refrain from carrying in church; if He wants me to be a knight-ette and carry despite the prohibition, then I’ll need Him to pretty much skywrite it for me.

      And as for being a knight-ette elsewhere, I’m already packing everywhere else that I go. As always, my prayer is that I never need to use my firearm against an unjust aggressor. But if the need does arise, then I pray that I not hesitate, that I not miss, that I not hit anybody that doesn’t deserve it, and that I neutralize the threat. I also pray that once the threat has been neutralized, I’ll able to tend to the temporal and spiritual needs of the unjust aggressor.

        1. It’s a tricky situation, Paul. I wrote a letter to the bishop a few days after Roe v. Wade was overturned. The crisis pregnancy center a few blocks from our parish had just been vandalized and had threats against prolifers spray-painted on it, and a police cruiser was stationed outside of our parish for all the Masses that weekend. I told the bishop all this, and I told him how I and others felt unsafe in church (especially given the neighborhood where the church is). I asked if he would reconsider his prohibition. He wrote me back a polite note in which he said that his prohibition stands. Am I bound in obedience to comply? May I morally disobey if I have reasonable concerns about my safety and the safety of the congregation given the state of the world today? And if I were “get caught” carrying in church and then get prosecuted (which would be a given), what would happen to me and my family? As I said, it’s a tricky situation.

      3. One of the things Doug Barry demonstrated at the event this year, was some of the dangers of multiple armed churchgoers working individually (and not as a well planned and organized team). It was very interesting! (I think my church has plain clothes police.)

It is a real danger – and Bishops or Priests who forbid firearms not only make their flocks sitting ducks, but also prevent the sort of coordinated crisis planning that could save a lot of lives. For a time, the Bishop in my son’s Diocese had forbidden any weapons by anyone in Chruch. My son was a police officer and state law REQUIRED all police in uniform to carry a weapon. So, my son went to Mass in uniform and carrying. The people in his Parish were safer because of him, no thanks to the Bishop.

Some say they worship the same God as Christians, but it’s not the God I recognize and love. I appreciate your analysis of the Koran, Charlie. Your conclusion of two different sets of rules is what I have gleaned before, and it seems obvious in the behavior.

    1. Scott Hahn was supposed to have a debate with a muslim. They met before the debate at a restaurant. In the meeting, Scott referred to God as Father, and the muslim objected.
      He did not want to see God as a father. Later on when Scott said it again, he banged his fist on the table and left.

  31. I think the U.S. dollar is going to fail. The only thing holding it up is full faith in the U.S. government. These days full faith has been replaced with dismay by all reasonable people. In addition, we all know that enemies take advantage of weakness. I think that everyone is holding their breath as violence ramps up…. This all happens at a time when Biden has cut energy suppliers at their knees and groups are turning valuable farm land into land covered with solar panels. Food prices will keep going up and some may be hard to come by……If there is war, it cannot be waged with solar or wind power. We have left valuable arms in Afghanistan (and they will be used against us) and are sending others to many places. I would say that J.B. is gutting us in all respects. And the open border has turned us into a Trojan Horse of our own making……I wonder what kind of play Shakespeare could have written about all of this. A theater of the absurd.

However, if there are serious blocks due to misunderstandings and/or misinformation and these have caused a strong barrier to be erected, we can end up becoming pushy to no avail. In this, we can become the agents of adding to the hardening of the barrier.
