The Fog of War

By Charlie Johnston

Casselton, North Dakota – When the anti-Catholic hate group, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, was invited to be honored before a game at Chavez Ravine, the Los Angeles Dodgers stadium, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles criticized the Dodgers for honoring the group and Archbishop Jose Gomez expressed his “disappointment, pain and dismay” over the decision. The Archdiocese’s auxiliary Bishop, Gerald Wilkerson then issued a memorandum to the clergy of the Archdiocese noting that, despite this, the Archdiocese neither backed nor approved of the planned Catholic protests at the stadium on the day of the event. Such a memo let the Priests and the Deacons of the Archdiocese know they had better not be caught participating. Bp. Wilkerson said the Archdiocese hoped it could establish “dialogue” with all parties.

A great vacuum was created by the Archdiocese’s refusal to defend the faithful with any vigor. Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas, came out to lead the very successful protest – and fill the vacuum for the faithful created by the abdication of the local Archdiocese.

Then we find this weekend that Bp. Strickland is on the receiving end of an Apostolic Visitation from the Vatican. That’s kind of like a visit from the FBI for normal folks, but without the SWAT Teams or CNN cameras. Strickland has been a burr in the saddle of the woke Vatican, as he insists on full-throated orthodoxy and publicly defending both the faith and the faithful. He is not opposed to dialogue, but when the anti-God left punches him (or the Christians he stands for, for that matter) in the face, he does not retreat and beg for more “dialogue.” He fights.

It pains me to speak critically of Los Angeles Archbishop Gomez. When he was first installed in LA, I had high hopes for real reform in that benighted Archdiocese. I had that hope for personal reasons, as well. Though I am only marginally acquainted with Abp. Gomez, he tapped my first spiritual director, the late Msgr. William Stetson (forever Fr. Bill to me), to come with him as special assistant. Fr. Bill was the first person I ever explained my full situation to, way back in May of 1995. Picked by Pope Benedict, Abp. Gomez got off to an auspicious start. He heavily restricted former LA Cardinal Roger Mahoney from doing any more damage to the faith and the faithful. Alas, those restrictions were overturned by Pope Francis’ Vatican. Nonetheless, Abp. Gomez focused on getting orthodox young men into the seminaries in LA, determined that the Archdiocese would become orthodox again, at least, by attrition over time.

I like to think that if we had an unambiguously orthodox Pope, Abp. Gomez would be a real reformer. The reality is that, since the election of Pope Francis, Abp. Gomez has done some good things, has signed onto some good initiatives that others have started, has retreated on some things and, above all, has avoided public spats. Personally, he is solidly orthodox. I don’t know if his obsessive avoidance of confrontation is from timidity or because he truly is struggling to balance his duty of fidelity to Christ and the Magisterium with his duty of obedience to authority over him. If it is a genuine struggle, it is not one he is winning.

The truth is that the faithful are perishing under the relentless onslaught of pagan wokism. Some of our Bishops are solid in their orthodoxy, both public and private. Abps. Aquila of Denver, Cordileone of San Francisco, and Naumann of Kansas City leap quickly to mind. But the people are perishing – and Bp. Strickland is the one who stands ever at the ready to defend them effectively. I have heard other Bishops say that Bp. Strickland is not a gifted theologian, that he is not prudent, that he is unsophisticated. I did take one Bishop aback when I noted that those were the same sort of criticisms made contemporaneously of St. Peter. Bp. Strickland IS courageous, willing to fight publicly both for the faith and the faithful, and in love with his flock. I stand proudly with Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas.

The job of the Church is to conform the world to Christ and His Magisterium. We have some Bishops who are actively trying to edit Christ and mutilate the Magisterium (right now, under the seemingly pious fig leaf of synodality). Other Bishops are working hard to preserve the faith whole and entire. But even among those who are so working, few are willing to make waves. And so the Church, progressively, keeps getting more and more conformed to the world.

The Pope Francis era is rapidly nearing the end of its run. It has not been an era of growth nor of doctrinal clarity, but it has been a vital pre-requisite to the renewal of the Church. We have seen how deep the rot runs in the hierarchy. We have seen how many men in cassocks have chosen the hope of worldly influence over the duty of fidelity to Christ. It is a time when every man and woman has answered, unknowingly, Christ’s pointed question to Peter after the Resurrection: “Do you love me?”

When this divine deposition suddenly finishes its appointed course, then comes a great judgment. The reigning dissidents will not topple Christ and remake the Church in their own woke image. At first it may well be a remnant, a mere shadow of its former power. But from that remnant will emerge a great light, a light that cannot be dimmed by the sacking of Rome and its global provinces. It is the light of those who, throughout the time of trial, of assault from within and without the gates, demonstrated by their fidelity that they love Christ first and foremost. It will rise from the ranks of the laity, but it cannot be led by the laity. Christ, Himself, appointed Apostles to govern His Church – and His decrees are immutable.

Choose carefully, dear Bishops. After revealing and casting off the rotted timbers from the great barque of faith, those who have lived fidelity in difficult times will remain. But those Bishops who kept fidelity, but also chose to seek dialogue when their flock needed defending, leaving the faithful to their own devices, will not be foremost in the renewed Church. They will be the clerks and second-raters they have revealed themselves to be. Like Peter, may their failure goad them to a greater love acceptable to Christ.

Would that all Bishops of good will complete their divine deposition with the grace and fortitude that Bishop Joseph Strickland already has. Would that they see that his great and sacrificial love for the faith and the faithful trumps all the theological, fund-raising, administrative and diplomatic prowess of those worldly clerics who boast of such things.

Those of us in the pews know that we are in a fight for the faith. We know that Bp. Strickland is with us at the barricades. All of you who are orthodox, I beg of you to join us before God’s deposition is finished.

It was a bit of a milestone when I rolled into North Dakota this weekend. It was the last of the lower 48 states I had never been to before. It was only one of two such states in which I have never before spoken. The last holdout is Utah. The Mormons there have no particular animus towards me, but I reckon I am not their cup of tea.

I came in through western North Dakota. In the midst of rolling hills I spotted a farmhouse. Fifty miles later I spotted another one. I thought, man, if one of those catches fire, there goes half the neighborhood. Western North Dakota is very sparsely populated.

I spoke at a venue called “Arthur’s Barn.” It did not look like much from the outside. Once you stepped inside, it was gloriously expansive with gorgeous décor. It reminded me of the first Parish I was a member of – only without the pews. It had a big upstairs dining area (the choir loft) and a huge room below. Of course, my first Parish did not have a bar at the back. Even in Chicago they were not THAT progressive back in the day. In rural areas I have come upon a number of innocuous looking buildings from the outside that are absolute gems on the inside. It brings to mind Matthew 23:26, where Jesus admonishes the Pharisee to wash the inside of the cup instead of paying so much attention to the outside.

My Archbishop, Samuel Aquila, was Bishop of Fargo before he came to Denver. I was pleasantly surprised that when I mentioned that we shared a Bishop, there was a spontaneous round of applause. After the talk, several shared fond memories of Bishop Aquila.

I have to say, many of our big cities are suffering from a nihilistic fever of destruction, but the rural areas remain strong and true. It was the same thing I discovered on my pilgrimage (though the cities have gotten far worse since then). In the country, people of faith see suffering and injustice and ask how they can help. In the cities the woke left sees the same and ask who they can blame. It is the difference between virtue and virtue-signaling – and the latter is killing the hope and joy of a generation of people.

The business of analysis involves gathering as much raw data and intelligence as possible, then fitting it into patterns that are coherent and predictable. This holds whether you are talking politics, geo-politics, war planning or just about anything else. I have often tried to get people to understand that, even in mystical things, I rarely get the answers. Rather, I believe God gives me a wealth of raw data and then I am expected to handle it the way I handle any other sort of analysis…in other words, to figure it out and come up with plans.

As you develop an overarching theory, there is always some data that is counter-intuitive or contradictory to the rest. Then there is data that you just don’t have. So you build in a series of contingencies and alternate explanations. You can get a good meta-sense of the state of play which allows you to amend your assumptions as more data becomes available to you. If you have got the overall sweep right, new information and events do not topple your analysis: they just refine its course.

This requires a certain restraint, a refusal to jump beyond what the data reasonably shows. The world is full of amateurs and cranks who, when they have a piece of information, think they have a schematic. Those are the ones who constantly come up with crackpot theories that always prove to be wrong. The cranks never recognize their error, just eagerly move on to the next crackpot leap. On the other hand, some analysts never make any conclusions at all because their fear of what they are missing is so great. Ultimately, good analysis is an art form, neither going beyond what the data you have will support nor fearing to make sometimes startling conclusions from that data. The reality is that if you are the best in the world, you are going to miss some things and sometimes an event will catch you by surprise. The equal reality is that if you make no conclusions at all, you will never be wrong but you are utterly useless as an analyst.

When I analyze anything complex, I pursue at least six or seven different plausible possibilities – and often more than a dozen. I relentlessly attack those narratives, which weeds out most actual fallacies and allows for refinement of the arc of the story as events shift on the ground. This is the process in normal times. In chaotic, unstable times you end up with more errors and startling surprises because many of the players lack a coherent plan that can be discerned…and the unforeseen erupts more frequently as loosely-formed plans are beset with more unintended consequences.

I was taken completely by surprise by the Wagner Group’s mini-revolt against Russian authority. I don’t know what it means – and I don’t trust the analysis of any of the usual cadre of “experts” on the subject. Most are so wedded to a particular narrative that they twist any event to support what they already believe. Those who have insisted that Putin is doomed since the second day of the war insist this proves what they have been saying for a year and a half. Others who, like me, respect Putin’s strategic sense, are insisting that this was some sort of 3D Chess move to disorient Ukraine and distract the west. That is at the outer edges of possibility, but I find it most unlikely. Above all, it has been hard to get a good grip on what is going on on the ground because almost no one gives straight reporting any more, including once reliable analysts. Everything is reported based on what the reporter wants to be true rather than what is actually happening. The strength of Ukraine has consistently been vastly exaggerated by western sources who desperately want it to be true. That is how we get stories that insist that Ukraine is crushing Russia almost effortlessly side by side with stories about how desperately Ukraine needs another $100 billion in materiel if it has any chance to survive. In this conflict, an honest analyst does not just have to deal with the fog of war, but with the intentional fog machine that tries to hide the reality when the fog occasionally parts.

Personally, I think Russia continues to prevail and will secure the Donbass and Crimea regardless of how much materiel the west sends. The price of that, however, may well be the interior destabilization of Russia, itself. The fog is too thick for me to see clearly what is happening now.

In a larger sense, I think this all plays into my thesis that everything, everywhere is falling apart and will continue to do so at an accelerating pace throughout this year. All the traditional alliances and certainties are coming unraveled. In America, the evidence of the incredible mass of Biden family corruption is becoming undeniable. The idiot media is finally figuring out that, having gone all in on the leftist narrative, they are sinking with the Bidens – and are now scrambling to hold onto some vestige of their lost credibility.

As usual, more than a few details are not playing out quite as I expected, but the larger narrative is. We have rapidly accelerating chaos throughout the world which will lead to some form of catastrophic collapse of the old world order. It is also leading to a collapse of the utopian dreams of an authoritarian new world order by the globalists. The old is falling away before our very eyes. The new is what will be made by the persecuted ordinary man, under God, as the fevered dreams of the new authoritarians slip away from them. And I remain convinced that, in the end, the more godly America that emerges from this chaos will ally with the more godly Russia that emerges from the same to defeat the godless authoritarian nightmare the Chinese government seeks to impose upon the world. Then we will be ripe for the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart.

Do not be afraid of the growing chaos that engulfs us the rest of this year and the first part of next. It is the death rattle of the degenerated old world order. Focus on taking the next right step under God and you will be true heralds of that Triumph. But glory! Do we have a wild ride ahead of us these next nine or ten months!

  1. Outstanding, Charlie. Absolutely outstanding!!

When you express that you can’t see clearly though the fog in Russia, several thoughts come to mind:
    *Your credibility remains high.
*Your words that the purpose of prophecy is NOT to inform us about what will come to pass ring true as ever they have.
*Thus, the timelines posited by those who proclaim themselves masters of the prophetic consensus may well be shot to heck by the many surprises yet to come, while none of these surprises are in any public prophetic words.

  2. Charlie, Another great piece…I think the Russia mutiny caught all of us completely by surprise.  The collapse is so rapid now and it is becoming more difficult to not react with pure anger or cower in fear.  Our oldest granddaughter (4 years old) was being influenced by a day care teacher to declare she was a boy.  It confused and troubled our beloved granddaughter so much that when her and I were together about a month after the fact she told me what the teacher had said and asked if she was correct.  It broke my heart to hear a four year old confused and troubled about whether she was really a boy or not.  It is difficult not to give in to immense anger.  I calmly assured her that she was born a girl, is a girl and will always be a girl…especially my girl.  That seemed to reassure her and I hope the issue is over for her.  My son and his wife had pulled her out of that day care immediately after learning that.  Last week I was leaving the YMCA after a work out and there was a guy who “transgendered” or as I like to say…pretending to be a girl.  He was the teacher for a group of kids attending the Y’s summer camp program.  I intend on informing the board of the situation although I strongly suspect they know.  More importantly the parents of these children need to know about this perversity being forced upon their young children.

I was thinking the other day how although your timeline was a bit off, your prophetic teachings have been right on…only even more horrifying than I expected.  I wish you would refer back to your prophesies…all prophets of God had errors and missteps.  You have been too hard on yourself and I worry that we are missing out on information that may help us through this dark time.  Think about it. Your friend, John McConnel

    1. John, old friend, thank you for that. I deeply appreciate it. If I failed to be rigorously demanding of myself, I would not be living up to my commitment to God. Nothing is lost in God’s economy. If I keep faith and live rigor, He will justify me. If I try to justify myself, He will leave it to me and I will screw it up. His grace will carry us all through this great storm together if we trust in Him and try to do our little part with fidelity. You will miss nothing. God bless you.

  3. May God bless and protect Bishop Strickland and allow his light to shine brighter as the darkness grows and presses in on every side. Let us pray for all those Bishops and clergy who suffer persecution. May they have peace, especially Cardinal Zen.

  4. Indeed, I have heard 3-4 very plausible theories of the Wagner incident. I look forward to knowing the truth some day (even if it’s in Heaven.) Putin seems to be 10 steps ahead of every other player in the game, and he is a brilliant strategist, in my opinion. I am not worried that he has, in any way, been snookered by events.

Re: Bishop Strickland, I think you have hit upon the nut: he cares about the flock. Other bishops seem to find the laity a burden, a bother, even perhaps the enemy. Bishop Strickland loves his people, and is loved in return precisely because the experience of being loved by one’s bishop is rare and precious.

He often prefaces his remarks with, “I’m no theologian, but…” I do think he is a theologian of high order because what he knows comes from love of Jesus, long hours of prayer and adoration, and deep reading in a spirit of humility. Many of the saints (maybe even most) didn’t have doctorates in theology; they simply knew Jesus Christ.

Oh Sheryl … when reading these words of yours, immediately thought of Abp Fulton Sheen … his love of Jesus, his flock, humility and long hours in adoration.
I pray for the intercession of Abp Sheen for Bishop Strickand … a seemingly lone beacon of light in this violent storm.

  6. JESUS = GOOD NEWS! … 🙂

Catholic Bishops/Traditional Christian/Jewish Leaders have a “tough row to hoe” These Days especially in Blue States/Urban Areas. They (US) are big fat targets of The Usual Suspects–
Democrat Party, Media and THEIR Cogs-n-Useful Idiots in the ever increasingly violent Abortion/Queer/BLANTIFA Militias — AND Corrupt DC Swamp/DOJ/DHS/FBI/ …. and their own State/City godless Officialdoms.
Then there is the Diocese Legal Department, Insurance Companies plus Safety Concerns of their Flocks in Police Defunded/Defanged Gun Free Zones for everyone except the Criminal Classes … especially the Criminal Elements beloved by Democrats.
Lots of pressure to Keep Quiet, Go With The Flow and Pretend it’s All Great.
It Never Ends Well! Pray & PRAY for Divine Intervention!!!!

  7. I have been praying for Cardinal Zen and the persecuted bishops in China, as well as Bishop Strickland as well as a few other people for some time now.

In the Spanish world this visits are known as mercy visits. The term mercy turned into a verb to mean to apply mercy or misericordiar. Meaning that is not going to go well for whoever gets it.

Our own Bishop Daniel Fernandez who was removed from the Diocese of Arecibo, Puerto Rico, received a mercy visit from the Vatican years ago. No one seems to remember him. To this day he doesn’t know why he was removed. Orthodoxy seems to be always at the bottom of it.

During the plan demic there was a visit to a seminary in Argentina, and they sent the seminarians packing, because they refused to receive the Eucharist in their hands. The seminary was then closed!

How about all those nuns who also are receiving mercy Vatican visits. These are usually cloister elderly nuns. There is the recent case in Texas. Usually the nuns have to leave and then their monasteries are put up for sale.

And the list of Vatican visits go on unnoticed until they come close to you. I have been following all these cases. Other countries, but our brothers and sisters.

    1. Truly, our Church is as troubled as our troubled world. You will find that many are they in this community who are aware of these difficulties and have been praying in solidarity with you and all who have eyes to see what has been transpiring. Our delight is in knowing that God has a Plan to set things straight and fulfill again, the Scripture verse: “Behold! I make all things new.” Our further delight is to know we can partner with God to bring about His magnificent Plan as we also live the prayer of doing. Maranatha!!

  8. I don’t want to leave out Bishop Álvarez as he sits in jail in Nicaragua. These year the government didn’t allowed the Catholic Church to celebrate the Passion and Easter as they traditionally do, as well as any processions.

Some seminarians that were in prison were sent to US, but here they were not allowed to be ordained. There is much more suffering going on there, but the Vatican doesn’t seem to care.

I can go on, but you understand what I mean!

Our Lady Help of Christians, pray for us!

  9. So many interesting thoughts, Charlie. I immediately prayed for Bishop Strickland, that Mother Mary’s mantle would powerfully cover him.

My first thought on hearing about the “mini revolt” was that our corrupt government must be involved. I noticed that some others voiced the same. It’s horrifying that “we” keep pouring taxpayer dollars and military supplies, into “U.” to our detriment. I guess in the long run, it will not even matter, as God supplies the solution.

I certainly look forward to the “collapse of the Utopian dream” of the evildoers! Sure hoping we can all, including our families, hang on until then. It’s a heavy burden to have some insight into these times, when we have loved ones who don’t understand what is coming. Some of them are so wounded, they can’t bear to hear, so I just pray hard for all of them, and try to encourage them to stay close to the Lord!

  10. Charlie, I think you should increase the probability that this was an elaborate ploy by Putin and his buddy Prigozhin. Ask yourself what the outcome is – several thousand Wagner troops and Prigozhin managed to travel up toward Moscow and then directly west into Belarus and are now poised 60 miles directly north of Kiev. At the same time, Shoigu and Gerasimov, who appear to be incompetent, will be removed.

The big reason Russia went into Ukraine over a year ago – IMHO – was not to save the Donbass (though that is certainly part of it). I think they went in so that they could ultimately take out and expose the Deep State, which is centrally located in Ukraine and focused in Kiev. Massive numbers of criminal networks, including human trafficking, baby farms, organ harvesting, money laundering, criminal hacking groups, weapons smuggling, US-run biolabs, and more are centered in Ukraine. (In fact, when all is said and done, I think we will find that Covid-19 and its spike were designed and built in Ukraine in US biolabs, with Wuhan being a cut-out.)

I would hazard a guess that Russia has every intention of cutting off the head of the snake and dividing Ukraine permanently into at least three pieces, including their eastern section, and at least one section that will be given to Poland.

To return to the “coup attempt”, I look at the relocation of a significant part of the Wagner PMC group to the closest non-Ukrainian point to Kiev, done in such a way that nobody significant has thought it was anything but Wagner being disgraced. I view it as establishing the point of the spear that will take out the very heart of the Deep State, which is Kiev.

I bet we are going to see things in Ukraine get much hotter, I think in about two months, giving time for more Wagner soldiers and equipment to join Prigozhin in Belarus and for the Russian military to get better leaders and continue bleeding the Ukrainian forces east and southeast of Kiev.

What we might learn if Kiev is taken and ransacked for evidence of evil and criminality could be immense.

      1. SJWTB, why else would every rotten politician and WEFer and Rothschild and so on be willing to pay so much and push so hard to defend Ukraine against Russia? Russia has documented the bio-labs there and tried to get the UN to pay attention to what the US and the Ukrainians have been doing in those labs. Biden and his family, Kerry, George Bush and other politicians have significant business and funding ties to the Ukraine. Lots of dark history there and lots of bad blood between the two countries over the centuries.

One of the reasons I think the Wagner mutiny was actually a maskirovka is because I don’t think Russia can truly clean out the Nazis and the networks in Ukraine without taking out Kiev. There are reports that up to 40K soldiers and equipment are already in south Belarus 60 miles from Kiev, with now a core of several thousand Wagner mercs. I don’t think we have long to wait for them to move. One thing I keep in mind is that Prigozhin was Putin’s chef for a while, apparently, and that is a position of extreme trust, given Putin’s situation. I think the two hatched this together to expose traitors in Russia and set up a move against Kiev, now that most of Kiev’s soldiers and materiel are in southeast and east Ukraine in a counteroffensive against the Russian military there and getting destroyed. Many Ukrainian soldiers are either making excuses so they can’t go into battle (mommy, my tank won’t turn on) or trying to surrender to the Russians before the Russians destroy them.

If I were the Russians, I would make the move to Belarus while bleeding the counterattack dry in the southeast, then I would surge from the east and southeast to engage and roll over the remnants of the Ukrainian counteroffensive troops while the force from Belarus goes south to Kiev and cuts the country in two, with most Ukrainian forces caught in the middle, and air power to cut all access roads to the west of the north-south line through Kiev so the west cannot reinforce.

But I’m no great military thinker, so it will probably be something completely different. We’ll see!

      1. Linda, you can do a search for “John of God” who was lionized by the Clintons and Oprah etc for holiness. Then he was exposed as running several baby farms in Brazil and selling the undocumented children into the trafficking networks or as adoptees. Big scandal. It’s alleged that he would kidnap teen girls, have them impregnated ten times and then kill them. He was convicted of sex abuse and is in prison for life. Here is an article, but there are many:

        https://nypost.com/2019/01/31/john-of-god-cult-leader-allegedly-ran-child-sex-slave-farm/

Netflix even did a documentary on him and some of his crimes.

You can also do a web search on baby farms in Ukraine, where the coverage is of surrogacy farms. However, vids of Russian soldiers talking about organ harvesting and so on can also be found, though as always, you have to be careful in believing what you are seeing in them.

Wouldn’t it have been awesome if God had sent a thunderbolt just in front of one of those “prideful” parades? Or maybe more than one. No one even need be hurt…

              1. What struck me most, Linda, – because it’s been a while since I’ve read stats – are the current statistics. What Mr. Ballard did was heroic and each life counts, yet, his very meaningful and important work, certainly not missed by God, was a drop in the bucket concerning this problem. The US is #1 in the world for sex trafficking. (In my mind, this is absolutely pornography fallout.) More than 500,000 children a year go missing in the US alone. (No wonder Our Lady of America spoke to the need for purity to return to our country.) I immediately said as we walked out of the film: This is exactly the kind of perversion Pope St. Paul VI forewarned when he penned Humanae Vitae. Of course, various sources give varying statistics. I did read that human trafficking is a 150,000 billion dollar a year criminal enterprise. (As I see it, these are the same kind of demons that incite abortion. Babies in the womb die a sudden, very painful death while abducted children die in a slow tortuous horror. If abducted as a 7 year old, those poor young ones are forced to – in the sick lingo – be used in 6-7 tricks a day… throughout their robbed childhood years. The 2021 stats for human trafficking in the US state that 57% are minors.) This is just too big for anyone to overcome in the current corrupt world.

In Akita (50 year anniversary last month on June 12th when the messages began https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/library/message-from-our-lady–akita-japan-5167 ), fully approved by the Church, Our Lady said that there will come a time when there will be no forgiveness for sins. This bothered me at first because of the parable of the prodigal son and knowing how God’s Mercy is always there for us, for Jesus’ Redemptive graces are infinite. However, our classic Catholic teaching about becoming hardhearted comes to mind. We can become set in concrete when it comes to sin. That’s the enemy’s end game. Too, too many are they who are in this state. I know the purpose of purification is to call us back to God and the Covenant He established with us, yet I also know that too, too many are so far gone, they would spit on Jesus if He appeared to them and offered them an invitation to repent. Here we are. I DO continue to pray for intransigent sinners, because God alone knows who will return to Him or reject Him and God Himself cannot break His rules about free will.

The other theme which has been in my pondering mind is that the Sound of Freedom does not even begin to get into the topic of healing from trauma. Even if we were to free every child, and every adult for that matter, who is enslaved in human trafficking, think of the intense amount of therapy that would be needed to bring these precious humans to experience full healing by the Lord. There are currently more slaves than there ever have been in history. Think on that mind-boggling reality while we continue acting by TNRS, and being ASOH as we are ALL IN with CORAC, and, most surely, we n.e.e.d. a Red Sea intervention. Maranatha!

                1. Wow beckita that was awesome reply!!! I did thing about these poor children and their recovery. I don’t think it would be so easy for them😩. It’s very very scary and very demonic!!! I’m glad more people are becoming aware of this issue😩. I was almost taken 2 times as a young girl. One time my best friend and I were out on our back porch making holly hobby plaster Paris placques (shouldn’t have been out late on the screened in porch!) I saw truck lights in the alley and then a man crouched down coming to where me and my best friend were! I yelled Kelly run!!! We ran into the house and locked the door but we should’ve woke my parents. Another time I was walking the tracks (dumb) and I saw a man’s shoes 👞 under the bush! I ran! Then my little brother was almost abducted once while playing in the hayfield behind our apartment in Maryland! I’m 60 so that was probably 50 or more years ago! Imagine today!!! I pray mostly for the triumph or the three days of darkness for the sake of the little ones! Our lives are close to the end but Lord have mercy on our children both born and unborn🙏🙏🙏

And ohhhh how we need this storm 😩

                  2. Wow, Linda, not my experience at all. I grew up in a small town outside Boston. At the age or 6-7 we were already wandering around town on our own. I’m 72 now, so that would have been the late 1950s. None of us were ever in danger. I even remember my brother literally tickling a trout out of a local stream. Then from 1960 on we spent our summers at our home in Hyannis Port on Cape Cod. It’s actually fairly closed off. Given the Kennedy presidency and its aftermath, the village was filled with Secret Service and State Police for a few years and then at night a private ex-cop security patrol. In the 1960s we had about 400 kids roaming all over the village. With the exception of a few burglaries and kid-fights, no child was ever at any risk like that.

Strangely, I have found out in the decades since 1960 that HP has had a series of white collar criminals living there and was fairly recently the central location for an amateurish but dangerous drug smuggling and selling operation. So it has had its share of trouble since the 1980s, but none of us kids had *any* idea about anything like that when I was growing up there in the 1960s. I could tell you some stories, some good, some bad, and some hilarious, but no evil ones.

                    1. I think it could be because we are so close to Toledo Ohio and Cleveland that we had shady characters around??? Not really sure but I def know our guardian angels were watching over us! I’ve always been very observant of my surroundings. I’m even more that way now not so much for me (too old to care😂) but for the little ones I see and care for
Oh Stevebc forgot two more in Maryland (Reisterstown) this old guy used to expose himself to my sis she made fun of him and called him “Mr Nudey!” 😂😂😂. My parents didn’t believe her so she made a game of it with her playmates and shamed him into quitting that behavior 😂😂😂. She still talks about it today 😂. Then another time in the hayfields I’m MD we made a hay fort (my two brothers and me) and some other kids set it on fire while we were in it!!! The whole darn field burnt to the ground!!! Again we were ok and got out in time when we smelled the fire 🔥 can’t make this stuff up😂

Like Charlie says, “ Ya don’t get heaven until ya get heaven!”

Stevebc your childhood sounds like Mayberry USA 🇺🇸!!! How beautiful that is to hear🥰. How’s mom doing btw??? I think of you and she so often🥰🥰😇😇

                    2. I concur Steve as I also grew up in a nice town not far outside of Boston.  Although I did not grow up in any church, my childhood was idyllic.  The culture was aligned with Judeo Christian values.  I practically lived in the woods playing and building tree forts.  We played pickle, kick ball, dodge ball.  Great neighborhood with lots of kids.  Divorce?  What was that?  I did not know any parents that were divorced when growing up.  My parents are great parents!  My mom is in hospice now.  This causes me to reflect on how wonderful my parents have been.  Today, we have lots of broken families.   No form of government can fix that.  They just make it worse.  Only God can fix the family structure with love and truth.  Lambzie and I pray our Rosary every day for this.  Jesus, I trust in you!—- Sent from Doug’s Back Pack

                    3. Linda, your stories are so interesting. Way to go with Mr Nudey, great way to play it.

No, my childhood was not idyllic. I wasn’t saying that but rather that there were no *external* threats as there was for you.

Though many external aspects of my childhood were outwardly idyllic as I said, it was the 1950s where all the bad stuff was *hidden*. My father was an alcoholic who became a quiet tranquilizer dependent. My mother did not do well with that and was quite stressed, which spilled over to my siblings and me. One neighboring couple with three kids split when the father took up with a woman in NY, and the male child became mentally very messed up. Another neighbor couple with several kids consisted of a wife who was an alcoholic, and the husband eventually found solace elsewhere. Another neighbor couple paid little attention to their kids, such that when the older boy bought his first car (after they moved away), he came back to us in our neighborhood to show it off. All that was literally within 150 feet of my house. I was quite sickly from age 2 on with asthma and anxiety, though I gradually grew out of both. My three sibs have their own issues, though we are still all in touch.

My mother was very difficult until about the year 2000, when my sibs enforced some rules and made her change or else. Fortunately, she *did* change. Since I have been working with her since 1995, I’ve seen that growth in her, which has made it both possible and worthwhile to take care of her in her years of need while my siblings have pretty much walked away. (Edit: To be fair, my sibs are 3,000 miles away and do help me gather the resources for my mother’s care, so they are participating in ways they can.) Having said that, though, remember that that is the hidden side. My mother was a major contributor to her friends and community and is much loved by many people who admire her greatly. The intensity of family relations was too much for her, but give her a bit of distance and she could thrive and contribute.

Somehow, my mother and siblings and I have made it through all of that and are all mostly good people now. However, it has often not been easy.

So you have to take account of external circumstances and internal/family conditions. My external conditions were idyllic but internal and family conditions were very 1950s in the suppression and hiding of significant dysfunction. You need both good external circumstances and a loving family to qualify for Mayberry status. 🙂 But then, without stress, can you ever develop depth and strength of character, or wisdom? I’m not a huge fan of Mayberry conditions unless that also includes appropriate conditions for positive stressors that can develop *conscious* moral character. Failing that, you get the 1950s with all of its hidden negatives, and people who sweep difficult issues under their family rugs.

                    4. Doug, you restore my hope that Mayberry can come to all *and* have good and deep children grow to true maturity within its borders. 🙂

Steve, I really believe it will come when we get through the storm.  I also think there will be pockets of communities like this as we go through the storm.  I do get discouraged sometimes, but the weird part is when I get discouraged, I am still happy.  Just being alive and knowing God and heaven exists is a gift to me.—- Sent from Doug’s Back Pack

  11. Well, I personally think the best thing to come out of the current pontificate is the compromised leaders are coming out in the open. For the most part, there is no doubt who they are. They are being exposed. Now we have to choose which side we are on.

  12. Church leaders welcoming woke ideology are putting their heads under a guillotine’s blade and their souls under the threat of eternal suffering. Catholic beliefs in the end will be deemed by the woke as intolerant and a felony, and those seeking the wokes’ mercy may end up in jail or even be executed by them and then, what’s infinitely worse, still may not find favor at God’s judgment…

As for that coup in Russia, if Prigozhin stays alive in the foreseeable future, it most likely means he was realizing Putin’s plan.

  13. It appears that Bishop Strickland is going to be fired and replaced, just as Bishop Daniel Fernandez Torres was fired. Some of you may know the story of Bishop Torres. He was Bishop of Arecibo, Puerto Rico, and was “removed” from office, without any justification from the Holy See. (This left the faithful in the regrettable position of guessing the reason for his removal, since there was no scandal, or even accusation of scandal against him. The consensus reason for his removal was Bishop Torres’ statement that Catholics must be allowed to conscientiously object to the COVID vaccines.)

Bishop Strickland has publicly expressed grave concerns about Pope Francis’ synodal plans, and because of this, according to some recent reports, it’s now clear that he will be treated as Bishop Torres was–sacked, replaced, and left without a flock to shepherd.

I am a parish priest, the pastor of a very large parish in my Diocese. Since the onset of the COVID events, its been clear to me that, at any given moment and without warning, I could be ordered to comply with something morally objectionable–whether from the state or from the Church. Furthermore, it’s become clear to me that if I failed to comply, that I would be sacked and replaced with a more compliant priest.

I feel a kinship for Bishop Torres, who spoke nothing less than the Catholic teaching that medical treatments cannot be mandated. I feel even more kinship for Bishop Strickland, who knew from precedent that Bishops must toe-the-line, or face the merciless consequences. Yet, I’m more convinced that ever that it is better to be sacked and replaced than it is to comply with evil, or keep silent in the face of evil.

I’m sure the laity need no warning that the something similar could happen to any of them, at any moment, in our tumultuous times. No one, anywhere, rests in a safe harbor. I hope people will see that it is better to face even harsh discipline from an unjust authority than it is to comply with it. God will justify–in his time and his way–those who take a stand. Especially if they believe they stand alone.

If history is to repeat itself, t is a tragic reality that the Vatican will now probably remove Bishop Strickland. He is like David facing Goliath alone.
I am praying that with Charlie’s solidarity with BP Strickand and his call to all Bishops of good will, they will find the courage to join BP Strickland and defend us with public displays of action, and in so doing, will show their support of this lone shepherd. God Bless and protect this holy man.

Mike and I are getting shellacked from just about every family member for standing up for the truth from one end of the spectrum to the other and at first it was really really hard but now it’s happened so much that we really don’t quite give a darn anymore 😂😂😂. We still pray for everyone daily but it’s really much easier to be alone (except our beloved jaxy family) than to have to go against our conscience and except sinful situations at our home. There’s a great peace that comes from trying your hardest to stand up for the truth…. No one listens, and they stay away from you, but it is peaceful🥰

  21. Charlie: your second-last paragraph is what I believe whole-heartedly. I hope you are absolutely correct in your analysis that neither the crazy left nor the complicit right will prevail, but those of us who hold fast to God’s Word. Praise Him continually.

  27. A Prayer for Healing.
    Ronald Reagan
From a speech to the American people, February 6, 1986.

“To preserve our blessed land we must look to God… It is time to realize that we need God more than He needs us… We also have His promise that we could take to heart with regard to our country, that “If my people, which are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Let us, young and old, join together, as did the First Continental Congress, in the first step, in humble heartfelt prayer. Let us do so for the love of God and His great goodness, in search of His guidance and the grace of repentance, in seeking His blessings, His peace, and the resting of His kind and holy hands on ourselves, our nation, our friends in the defense of freedom, and all mankind, now and always.

The time has come to turn to God and reassert our trust in Him for the healing of America… Our country is in need of and ready for a spiritual renewal. Today, we utter no prayer more fervently than the ancient prayer for peace on Earth.

If I had a prayer for you today, among those that have all been uttered, it is that one we’re so familiar with: ‘The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace…’And God bless you all.”
Have a wonderful 4th of July everyone!
