The Ice Age of the Republic

By Charlie Johnston

I see a lot of stories these days that say various policies pushed from on high will have a “chilling” effect on freedom or public discourse. Seriously?! I suppose you can have a chillier wind blow even when it is already 20 below zero, but most rational folks do not use that rather gentle phrase to describe such a thing.

The only reason America is not already a totalitarian nightmare is because the left moved way too fast to authoritarianism without establishing a soothing normalcy first. They never gained sufficient control to impose totalitarian control – but they are trying. Their efforts provoke more and more pushback – kind of a self-defeating prophecy. And yet, they could still succeed.

When the left argues it must ban “misinformation,” far too many conservatives and Christians are arguing about the definition of misinformation and who decides. While it is true that the government and the media have peddled FAR too much nonsense to be anointed arbiters of truth, the larger truth is that, in America, censorship is unconstitutional and forbidden. If our argument boils down to how to properly administer censorship, we have already lost. When leftist officials and public health officials argue they have power to arbitrarily impose rules on all to ensure safety – and they can unilaterally decide what is and is not a public threat, our liberty is already gone unless we give them an unambiguous no. When the FBI and the Justice Dept. cannot stop a terrorist even when they have weeks of advance notice of a plot (out of fear of whatever flavor of …ism of the moment) but can relentlessly track down dissidents, jail them without bond or habeas corpus, and put them in solitary confinement indefinitely awaiting trial, we are not free. If Republican and Christian leaders do not fight with public vigor and unshakeable resolve to stop these abuses, we are squandering a winning hand.

Where are the leaders who are forcefully demanding the release of those folks who were merely trespassing at the Capitol on Jan. 6?  Who are the leaders who are demanding that the censors – both public and those private entities which receive benefits from the government for enforcing a narrative on the regime’s behalf – be jailed and stripped of their assets? Who are the leaders demanding that all public federal officials who engage in such violations of individual rights be impeached and forever banned from holding a position of public trust? Alas, the left is filled with passionate intensity while the right (and the Church) lack all conviction.

In his masterwork of historical fiction tracing Russia’s descent into Soviet Communism, Dr. Zhivago, author Boris Pasternak noted grimly that, sometime in the second year of the revolution, a horrifying artificiality shrouded the whole society: people were required, on pain of imprisonment or death, to believe absolute absurdities that everyone, including the revolutionaries who enforced them, knew were preposterous lies. “(Must he) spend all his life never hearing, year after year, anything but these unchanging, shrill, crazy exclamations and demands, which became progressively more impractical, meaningless, and unfulfillable as time went by?” (Chapter 13, Section 3, Hayward-Harari Translation). Pasternak came to understand that the enforced lies were simply a means for exerting control and for distracting from the complete collapse of civil society the revolutionary’s incompetence had produced. For over a decade we have had nothing but lies piled on lies coming from our institutions and press. In the last year, we have been ordered to pretend to believe the lies or face cancellation – or even prison time – and the attempted coercion gets more frantic by the day.

I understand the left’s panic: the smarter of them know they pulled the trigger too soon and this has become an existential battle for them. If they cannot successfully force the folksies to submit, the best scenario for the left is that many of them will go to prison or into forced exile. Most national leaders on the right are doing what they usually do: a few are screaming, most are capitulating – and it is much sound and fury, signifying nothing. I don’t blame them or hold them in contempt (except for the Quislings). Events have already outpaced them and they don’t really know what to do other than the same old, same old. Already, members of the military and other key elements of society and law enforcement are quietly segregating into red and blue, in case it comes to that – and it will. Citizens have been quietly stockpiling guns and ammunition at a record-smashing pace.  Decisive power has already devolved back to the states, though most – including the officials of the states – do not yet realize it.

Unless the left stands down from their enforced lies and fantasies, there are only three possibilities for America: Submission to tyranny, civil war, or separation. The left is not going to stand down. I will not submit, I do not want war, so I have focused since the start of the year on separation – secession as a sort of panic room to preserve a remnant of freedom until the madness passes or is so discredited by the brutal hellholes the blue states are on their way already to becoming that even the slow learners who make up the left’s base realize that they are starving and destroying themselves. It won’t take as long as most people think, though a multitude of the left will be bitter-enders, hunkering down in the bunker like Adolph Hitler as the society they assaulted collapses above them. We cannot stop the left from immolating themselves on their noxious vanities and power trips, but if we don’t act to protect normal God-fearing people, the left will create a lot of collateral damage among us as they implode.

The southern states from Texas to Florida will almost certainly be free states, as will the northern bloc of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and the Dakotas. The west coast, New England, New York and Illinois will almost certainly become captive command states. The rest are up for grabs – and there are probably a few surprises there. A problem I have is the only governor I fully trust to take the side of his citizens is Ron DeSantis of Florida. Unfortunately, if there is going to be a Free Republic of States to carry us through the crisis, I think Texas must take the lead to give us the best chance of success.

Texas is the only state which has the right to secede guaranteed in its original compact with the United States. Left-wing scholars (I know that is an oxymoron, but I’ll indulge their pretensions for the moment) insist that that provision was abrogated by the result of the Civil War. If so, it was abrogated by one of those endless “penumbras” and “emanations” lefties are always making up to substitute for actual evidence. Texas also has it own power grid – and massive energy supply. Yes, I know it failed significantly last winter – but that was largely due to succumbing to leftist “green energy” fantasies being pumped out of Austin. What it is NOT vulnerable to are efforts by a coalition of command states cutting it off – and that invulnerability will help protect others in the Free Republic States as Texas can extend energy pipelines to them, if necessary. To put it baldly, Texas starts with the infrastructure necessary to support a nascent free nation and extend help out to others that join such a republic.

Most people think that Texas is a solid conservative bastion of liberty. I know Texas. I think that is a fair assessment of the majority of its people – but not of Republican political leadership. Gov. Greg Abbott is a nice enough fellow, but he is an establishment Republican, only as conservative as he is pushed to be to survive. He has raised his conservative bona fides the last few months, but that only came after former State. Sen Donald Huffines entered the race. Most of the conservative agenda Abbott has supported these last few months – including finishing the wall and enforcing it in Texas – comes directly from Huffines’ public agenda. I’m glad Abbott is feeling the heat and doing his best to enact Huffines’ program, but it does not come naturally to the current governor – and I do not expect him to sustain it very long. He is a ‘jobs and contracts’ establishment Republican, not a natural defender of individual liberty under natural law.

Over the next year, a lot of hard decisions are going to have to be made. I want a conservative leader in Texas who feels it in his bones and won’t hesitate to stand with and for the people of his state – and if necessary – with all the people of a Free Republic if the old nation degenerates completely into tyranny. I should note that the whole Huffines family are dear friends of mine and we talk regularly. I was deeply grateful when I first met them four years ago, as I thought even then that Texas would be the linchpin if we got into the sort of deep national trouble I expected – and would need real leadership. And yes (as some of you have asked), Deirdre Hairston, the young pregnant mother who the Priest called the police on for not wearing a mask at Mass in Dallas, is one of the Huffines’ daughters. Mary Catherine, Don’s wife, will probably give me an earful because she never wanted that event connected with this political situation (I promised her at the start of that controversy that I would not disclose the family relationship until well after Don announced his candidacy, at least). But you should know that is the type of family they are.

The fact is that the left and the Democrats are trying to put our liberties, natural law, the fear of God, and the love of family and patriotism in the deep-freeze. The “chilling effect” of these things coming constantly from the left is not a flaw in their plans, but the very point of it. They want to make us subjects of their rule. Very soon, if any part of the North American continent is to remain free, we must openly fight the aspiring tyrants on the left or flee their depredations to preserve liberty where we can. I spend a lot of time thinking about how to preserve liberty for all who value it with the least amount of open conflict. I believe we are past the point of no return; that the left will rule or ruin what our ancestors bequeathed us – and it is up to us to keep the light of liberty burning, under God, in the extreme circumstances of American officials conspiring with each other and other institutions to destroy America as it was envisioned. It is time to start thinking very seriously about the unthinkable.

Decades ago, a friend of mine who was a recovering alcoholic with several years of sobriety told me he did not even realize he had a serious problem until he was at a party with the biggest bunch of drunks he knew – and three of them took him aside later and told him he needed to get his drinking under control. Doing his best Jeff Foxworthy impression he said, “When the biggest drunks you know tell you you need to get your drinking under control, you MIGHT have a problem.”

I couldn’t help but think of that when this story was released about a prominent French atheist philosopher who took Pope Francis to task for trying to put the Latin Mass on the road to ultimate extinction. Here’s to hoping Pope Francis realizes that when even atheists tell him, “Dude, you need to dial it back,” he MIGHT have a problem.

Our friend, Desmond Birch, appeared on the U.S. Grace Force Podcast with Fr. Richard Heilman and Doug Barry last week. The three had a rollicking good time together – and there were almost as many laughs as there were deep insights.

It struck me as weird that the most common criticism of the show among commenters was that the three laughed too much. Seriously?! You think people cannot talk about serious matters without being somber and gloomy? Ah well, that was one of the most common criticisms of Abraham Lincoln, too – that he was too inclined to laughter and his little jokes in the midst of the Civil War. Of course, he actually won the war and freed the slaves while his critics could only accuse him of not being gloomy enough about it.

It is not the doomsayers and monster-shouters who are going to get us to the other side of this great crisis, but men and women who can laugh at themselves as they go seriously about their work.

*********

David Daleiden celebrated the sixth anniversary of the release of the first undercover videos revealing the depth of depravity in Planned Parenthood with this brief recap video on July 11. Alas, it did not get much coverage. But who could have expected it to in this age of shadow-banning and outright cancellation, where disinformation is the official party line and actual facts are called misinformation?

I know that a lot of things are going wrong these days – that we are drinking from a dystopian firehose that gets stronger each day. But my stars, if we can’t rise in unison and in horror at the revelation that some intact babies are being killed by dissection after being born, as was revealed during the trials, we fully deserve the scourging and chastisement God has promised us.

It’s going to be a busy week. I’ve got a piece coming that will give you some pictures and stories from the CORAC conference, along with information on some notable upcoming regional events. I’ll be taping a new “Talkabout” Series with MP later this week. I’m going to do a full piece on questions that you need to ask about the Covid fiasco and about the Covid jab that they call a vaccine. I dumped Twitter years ago. If Facebook bans any questions I ask, I’ll dump them, too – and you’ll have to find me at MeWe. It’s time to take Nancy Reagan’s advice from the 80’s – Just Say No.

  1. Thanks be to God the Left moved way too fast in their quest to abolish our freedoms. The gains made, due to the lackluster ways of those who oppose the Left, already make living plenty miserable as we wait, ponder, keep vigil and pray, day by day, because, eventually, something’s gotta’ give.

“For over a decade we have had nothing but lies piled on lies coming from our institutions and press. In the last year, we have been ordered to pretend to believe the lies or face cancellation – or even prison time – and the attempted coercion gets more frantic by the day.” Wearying it is.

Elliott’s piece makes sense from a temporal perspective, yet, I do think of God’s Plan for the US to rise again and take the role of leadership to bring about the worldly equilibrium so needed, which makes me wonder how His Surprises will factor into our temporal needs as we are ever open to His Presence and guidance. And oh my! Countries all over the planet are suffering and will suffer the more when the market crashes, as it seems inevitable that this will occur.

Your thoughts about Texan leadership are fascinating, Charlie… Pondering… Ooo, I like Huffines’ thoughts expressed at his site.

Sobering reality: “Very soon, if any part of the North American continent is to remain free, we must openly fight the aspiring tyrants on the left or flee their depredations to preserve liberty where we can.” Holy Smokes, yes.

“It is time to start thinking very seriously about the unthinkable.” Well, this is a petition of primacy for the Prayer Teams. Surely calling down Holy Spirit into the minds of those who are gifted in these ways of thinking, that they allow Him to inspire with strategies and keys for moving forward.

Your full week sounds wonderful… Prayers aplenty as we have your back, so go crush it, Charlie!

    1. BTW, that is one creepy pic smack dab in the midst of the recounting of the Left’s garbage-dumping on this world. “Miss Information” is a fine pun. C’mon, Man! I’m sure Doug can come up with another.

  2. Bingo, target nailed, ” The only reason America is not already a totalitarian nightmare is because the left moved way too fast to authoritarianism without establishing a soothing normalcy first. ”
Even the generally uninformed public seems to have noticed that the Demorats have gone into nana land with their crazy ideas, such as the sexes do not really differ, but transsexuals have dominating rights over ordinary people, that street cops need to be replaced by soft talkin social workers, that Central and S Americans are welcome to crash the border they despise, but new Cuban refugees must be sent back to Communist Cuba, that Cuba’s government is superior to our own as proclaimed by BLM and the AOC squad, that China is no threat to us or anyone else (such as Taiwan), and, the clincher– that Whites are born evil oppressors of minorities, and own the irredeemable sins their ancestors, whereas minorities are born to an inferior status dooming them to White oppression.

Public polling is showing that Blacks and Browns are as offended, if not more, than Whites, by this racial bigotry formalized as CRT, with the Biden Administration publicly exposing it, until recently when polling showed they were in trouble. The quislings Romney and Cheney have also alienated their state constituents.

Because of such outrageous nonsense from the Demorats, I have increasing hope that the 22′ election will rid us of Pelosi as the House Majority leader, and perhaps even regain the Senate.

  3. If I can find a friend to laugh with, even though things seem to be falling apart, then I know I will keep my sanity and get though hard times. Laughter can be a very healthy release for stress that arises during the most difficult struggles. Often the funniest people have experienced very tragic events in their lives. Their laughter and comic relief have developed as a defense mechanisms. I do not think that it is the least bit odd that people who deal with very serious subjects often have a funny bone.

    1. So true, STJ, now more than ever. That’s why our favorite programs, of those few we watch on TV, are shows such as America’s Funniest Videos! They are clean, good, fun! Same with videos from the library; we look for comedies. 🙂

  4. I was just talking with some Average Joe type people and we all thought that things are moving at a break neck pace. The extreme leftists have salivated over fundamentally changing America and, with it, the world. Now that they feel they are in charge, they do not want to miss their opportunity. I think that they know their puppet-in-chief is showing extreme mental weakness. Their second-in-chief constantly cackles when asked difficult questions and also appears to be inadequate….even for their purposes! The real movers and shakers are moving very fast behind the scenes to try to not mess up the opportunity. In doing so, they are revealing how twisted and far from the average person they really are. I suspect that the average D must be shocked at some social extremes as well. Very few citizens can be comfortable with the small percentage of people who are determining that the rest of us must fully celebrate every single oddity out there. Tolerance is one thing. The constant celebration and harangue of “this is just another lifestyle choice” is just too much.

  5. July, 2021. Planet Earth.

Things are popping off around the world in many of the biggest democracies. The size of the various crowds is impressive. The Globalist left are in for an ugly surprise if they continue to push the oppression. Hints of “global civil war” on the horizon.

Here’s our buddy, Michael the Aussie. (Warning: While there are plenty of peaceful protesers, there are also many rightfully angry people.)

    1. RELATED NEWS.

      What do you see?

Dr Peter McCollough, MD, sees the implications of what’s going on, looking into his “crystal ball.” In this tweet, he is not speaking to the wide spread mistakes that are being made in medicine, but rather the neuroses that has contaminated the rational judgement of his (our) colleagues.

“I think that something has gone very wrong in the world. The whole medical bio-scientific underpinnings have been broken.

We’re not having evidence-based medicine. We’re not seeing reasonable conclusions being made. We’re not even seeing regulatory decisions being followed.”

“Something is gone very wrong in the world; I think we are in for about 3-5 year period of turmoil…”

Personally, I’d use the word “psychoses” rather than “neuroses”.

The Evil One is working feverishly to break our fellowships.

      1. Patrick, this is the same doctor in the awesome video someone shared on the previous thread. The “vax” should be discontinued and is obsolete. It’s on lifesitenews.com. It’s a must see. He also says the Novavax is safe. They are still in trials AFAIK, coming soon.

The zoom call today with the founder, a pediatrician, opened and closed with prayer. How awesome is that?

Gotta love this line of malarcky: “VA is taking this necessary step to keep the Veterans it serves safe.” ….how, by endangering the health and lives of its employees? This will do nothing to keep Veterans any more safe, and they know it despite their neuroses.

(we saw this coming a mile away):

My cousin is a successful surgeon in Fort Wayne, IN.

She has until September to get stabbed with one of the experimental drugs in order to keep her job. She is the sole breadwinner of her family. She prayed about it and decided to go forward with it.

This is occurring today in the United States of America. 🇨🇳

      1. Yes, Patrick. The fight is on. We’ve had some discussions here about the college kids all over the country who have faced this ultimatum as expressed in the “welcome” to a new school year letters. France got it in spades via new legislation passed early this morning concerning vaccine passports. I noticed the demand for a passport to enter has not included grocery stores… yet. We can expect it. https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/france-macron-calls-unity-anti-vaccine-protests-79045210

    3. Patrick, I was very heartened to see 100s of thousands of Europeans standing up at the Worldwide Freedom protests last Saturday. 4 of us saw those videos Saturday morning and drove down to the one here in Atlanta. It was a great rally, fantastic speakers telling the truth. Guess how many cake out to defend our freedom at the Atlanta rally? Mabye 150 people. Not 150 thousand. 150 total

And I can’t find any videos of reports of any large turnouts in the US. Why is no one in the US standing up against them is supposedly we are all enraged by the leftist’s overreach?

      Liked by 3 people

      1. Because, Tom, the US hasn’t quite pulled the trigger yet on the extreme draconian measures. But when they do, they will see protests that dwarf what’s going on in democracies around the world. ( I hope).

        Liked by 9 people

        1. How bad it gets… how draconian it gets… etc. It’s a bit like haggling over the rules of censorship. I don’t even think it has to do with a complete lack or loss of perspective in folks. We’re not frogs. Grew up in a small town in the midwest in the 60’s and 70’s and don’t even need to think for a second about what a train wreck 2021 in the U.S. is. Too many are clinging to what they think gives them comfort, recoiling at the slightest thought of inconvenience, sacrifice and suffering.

Don’t expect a big, glorious turnaround in people. Didn’t get here all at once… got here by degrees. We’ll get there the same way. How? Jesus says, “follow Me.” His Mother says, “follow Him.”

          Liked by 3 people

        2. Patrick, how extreme do the draconian measures need to be for people to awaken? As a nation we readily complied with the shutdown of our economy driving 800,000 companies out of business last year (that’s 200,000 over the normal closures each year, that’s not people, that’s businesses). We were forced to stay in our homes for months on end, for no good reason. Forced to wear masks, again for no good reason. They brazenly stole the election, and no one in our fallen Republic is doing anything about it. For goodness sake, they shut down our church’s the celebration of the Holy Mass and Sacraments for months on end.

It’s absolutely necessary to always have hope, but the reality of what is occurring shows a different trajectory that our fellow citizens are on. I think earlier this year Dennis Prager hit the nail on the head for the reason why we struggle to gain traction in our efforts, why there were only 150 people at the Freedom Rally, 50 of whom were the organizers of the rally. Unfortunately our fellow citizens have become “good Germans” and have been browbeaten into fear by Antifa and BLM being allowed to run hog wild over our cities and beat people into submission, with no consequences to them, by the government snatching people and keeping them locked up for months now for an “insurrection” at the Capitol, by big tech shadow banning and outright lying about what is occurring moment by moment, by overt threats by our government to monitor our activities…Dennis Prager nails it here: https://townhall.com/columnists/dennisprager/2021/01/05/i-now-better-understand-the-good-german-n2582563

          1. An archaic meaning of “hope” also had to do with trust. I think a discerning distinction has to be made between hope and expectation, based on the way we often currently use/frame it. In which case I’d say embrace hope by all means, but divest of expectations, particularly if they’re debilitating at the risk of derailing us. Shoot, I feel lighter already just discussing it.

            Liked by 1 person

            1. Bingo, MP. In charity I didn’t call it “blind hope”, I prefer to think of it as looking at the situation with eyes wide open so we can see what’s coming straight at us.

I founded a company 26 years ago that’s still plugging along today, one of our 3 tenets was (and I still hold this as a fundamental truth today), “we will deal with reality as it is, not as it was, or as we hope it to be”

              Liked by 1 person

              1. I like it. Wasn’t calling anyone out on their use of “hope,” just highlighting a useful distinction. Among a handful of tenets, I’ve stuck to this one too for over 3 decades in professional and personal realms: good, bad, or indifferent, what are the facts? The same mentor that impressed that on me also gave me this one: never mistake activity for achievement. Though he did pinch that one from the great John Wooden.

                Liked by 2 people

                1. I like the “never mistake activity for achievement. ” quote.
Jesus calls this the one the hypocrite.
He’s the guy standing in the synagog bragging about how much better he is than the guy in the back beating his breast. Lots of “achievements” on his list but little substance in the end.
Or Judas calling out Mary for “waisting” the precious perfume when it could have been sold and the money given to the “poor”. ( but in his heart-Poor Judas, that is).
Jesus, I Trust In You leads us to the Hope that does not fail of have a goal that is unachievable. To hope or trust in this world or in worldly outcomes is the same old-same old way. To trust in He who his trustworthy does not remove the cross or burden if life but sanctified it. Even the mondane becomes a great event liked what a mustard seed of faith can do. But it’s mostly invisible, like the justification of the publican who Jesus said was justified. No one knew how justified he was until Jesus called it out. Because only God can read hearts. And even though the phrases had much “activity” to show for justifying “himself” to himself, the Publican was he who really achieved it.

  6. Difficult to tell how strong the pushback against tyranny really is, but from what I read it is certainly stronger in the USA than in Canada. We have been force-fed “government knows best” since at least Pierre Trudeau, arguably since Lester B. Pearson. That is a couple of generations now, and it has had time to soak in and therefore has taken root strongly. That the corruption scandals involving Justin Trudeau have gotten so little traction with the Canadian public tells that there is no chance we up here will ever throw off the shackles. Leftist indoctrination can be very thorough when done slowly. The Fabian socialists were on the right track.

These next few decades are going to be WAY more difficult than anyone realizes, on both sides of our border. But I think you have some parts of the USA where sanity still reigns. Here, not so much…

    1. My grade school band was invited to perform at Expo ’67 in Montreal. Then I was back for a more extended tour in 1975. Spent a good chunk of time in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick (LOVED the Bay of Fundy) and Nova Scotia. Spent time clamming at the Bay of Fundy at low tide, walking out to the island. Nova Scotia looked more like the picture postcard version of Maine than Maine does. In Ontario, my buddies’ and my tarp shelter collapsed on us in the middle of the night because of the unceasing rain. We were so exhausted we didn’t do anything about it except roll over and go back to sleep. In the morning, I gasped when I woke up to something fuzzy in my face – which woke my buddies up. The raccoon which had come and slept beside me in the night trotted off as a I sat up in my sleeping bag – and my buddies watched in amazed amusement. Then I felt something stirring at my feet – and shortly two squirrels came squirting out of my bag. My buddies took to calling me Dr. Doolittle for several weeks after that. It was such a lovely country with such nice people that it horrifies me now how far it has fallen and how easily its people accepted authoritarianism. And yet, Kelly, I remain convinced that God is about to renew the ENTIRE world – and I look forward to one day visiting Canada again with joy and freedom – and sooner than anyone thinks, given the darkness that surrounds us.

      1. 🙂 Charlie, your early positive experience with the raccoon et al seems to have been part of God’s prep for your pilgrimage.

I am also reminded of the one novel by Michael D. O’Brien that I have: “Plague Journal.” Has anyone else here read it? Must read again.

God bless and keep you all,

        1. A family of bunnies slept with me in Houston for a few days. It was kind of cool. I didn’t notice them until the second day – and they just acted like I belonged there. Didn’t get even a hint of shyness from them.

          1. There have been bunnies hanging out with Michael and I these past few evenings while we sit in that one room you saw at our house that is surrounded by windows. Billbad42 you and Sarah and brook and Noah were in it too!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 But funny you mention this Charlie for I was telling Michael about your place you stayed outside with the bunnies! He liked hearing about it and we are both enjoying our little family of bunnies too! 🐰

          1. Kim and Sister Bear, I haven’t read Michael O’Brien’s books… I have the attention span of a three-year-old when it comes to really long works of fiction. But I’m feeling the need to reread some Louis L’Amour right about now. Maybe I’ll dust off one of my Sacketts books this weekend and give it a read.

        2. Sure have read it, Sister Bear! Over 10 years ago, when I first became aware of Michael D. O’Brien and had just finished “Father Elijah”. It was a chilling read back then, in its very realistic depiction of what might come to pass. Back around 2009, which of us could have imagined it would all happen, and so swiftly – even though, given electoral events and world financial events at that time, the signs were becoming apparent.

The sequel to “Plague Journal” is “Eclipse of the sun”, a massive read at over 850 pages but totally gripping all the way through. And it ends in glorious hope!

      2. Charlie,
So much to say, but I liked your comment on hoping to visit Canada “sooner than anyone thinks.” That’s so hopeful to me. Living in California, your post doesn’t feel exactly hopeful in the short term. But, I am praying that we too are able to come around. Right now we’re busy with water shortages, which is really bad for the rice business, and fires seemingly everywhere. Please say a prayer for us.🙏🏻💒

I won’t leave the country until many things have been put right once more in America – and then we work to put help others put things right.

I have fond memories of Canada too. I am French-Canadian on my father’s side on the family – nee: Arcand. After the Chicago Black Hawks, the Maple Leafs and Canadiens were close second favorite teams of my dear dad.
l witnessed first-hand and was moved by the devout Catholics in Canada as a young mother at the turn of the century. Seemingly much more prevalent there than I was accustom to in my neck of the woods in the states at the time. We had a family reunion in Ontario – my children’s paternal grandmother’s side that fled Romania. I fell in love with Canada again then. I do not think I’ve been back and hope to visit under better circumstances.
You are all in my prayers, Kelly. ❤

    2. Kelly, I do not really understand why, but it seems that the U.S.A. appears to be the last stand against the unfettered leftist agenda for the West on every level. Charlie has described it well. At the core I believe it comes down to disintegration of Christian communities and families. For this reason I often find it odd (or perhaps ironic) that Mark Mallet refers to the U.S.A. as “Mystery Babylon” given that many of our citizens are still fighting against a pagan agenda, though I know that there are dark elements within our government and communities who have used vast amounts of money in ways that are not reflective of a Christian image.

      1. StJ, yes, it seems to apply to us in general. However, I’ve come to realize that “Mystery Babylon” imagery really can only – and quite suitably – be applied to The System we are resisting, the one that has suborned our original institutions and turned those institutions against us and the rest of the world’s people. As the saying goes, it’s a big club and we ain’t in it. Imagine an enormous multi-tentacle octopus slithering its influence into everything and corrupting all of it and turning all that to their own ends over centuries of effort.

We are families and communities connected by social and economic relationships that would normally be fully mutual in nature. The System is heavily interlinked within itself and codified into official institutions and treaties and so on as the visible part and extreme levels of threat, temptation and blackmail invisibly. It’s based in the cities and huge factories and mass-production schooling, mass media, even mass religion in certain cases. As we are all forced to Choose, the boundary between Them and Us is getting more and more sharp, and The System and those in it are becoming more and more visible.

      2. Judith, I have also long been puzzled by how Mark Mallet refers to the USA. That is what ultimately caused me to stop reading his posts a few years back. Not that he doesn’t have some worthwhile things to say; but his repeated references to “Mystery Babylon” got disheartening, and I don’t have the time or energy to be disheartened.

        Liked by 4 people

        1. Well, Mick, there is so much out there to dishearten us. I imagine that “Mystery Babylon” is his interpretation and I doubt that it was part of some revelation. To actually name the USA was upsetting to me as well. I think that Steve BC is more correct in that it is a system. I am sure that this system has its tentacles in many places. As a superpower, the USA has had great influence on the world, some for the good and some which has been the opposite. However, I do think Mark was erroneous in naming a single country. There is a lot of evil in so many countries and it is hard to decide which is responsible for the most darkness. However, given that we are still fighting against a godless agenda here in the USA, his interpretation was a great insult to about 50 percent of the American people. Since so many other western countries have just capitulated to the leftist agenda, that it was just a huge kick in the pants to the people who are still working to forestall a capitulation here in the USA.

          1. While I do think it’s an error to name a specific country, and I agree that Mystery Babylon and/ or the beasts have to do with the world systems, I think his reference to the USA has to do with its power and influence in the world and the corruption in its government, rather than the amount of people opposed to and actively fighting against the system. There are very many people in Canada and around the world who are also working against the system, even though our governments may have fallen, or been stolen. Please don’t forget about us. Look at all freedom protests around the world, even from the beginning of the pandemic; those people are a small fraction of us. That being said, we stand with you, and pray for your success, as we work for our countries’ success. I think if you fall, we fall; and if you succeed, we succeed. When Obama was in office, our gas went from about $0.95 per L to $1.35. With Trump in office, it was down to $1.15 at times, and otherwise steady around $1.30. With Biden now, we are already at $1.57, for whatever that’s worth as an indicator of how people are doing.

            1. Northern Lily, I know that we are in this together. I think that everyone is going through a hard time in just about every country these days for many reasons. The virus restrictions have affected many people adversely both economically and psychologically. I simply think that there is still an organized effort in the U.S. to reject godless socialism and loss of free will / freedoms. About 50 per cent of us do not believe that the government or a technocrat or a mogul businessman knows best. There are people that are extremely vocal about it here. At the same time, there is an attempt from our government to squash any logical discussion or opposition to any of the leftist positions. (For example, I am rather sure that Charlie is being closely watched.) On the other hand the leftist agenda seems have become just about accepted in many other western countries……. As far as science goes, the heart of science is on-going discussion between scientists, testing hypothesis, tand retesting. I laugh when people say “I trust the science”. Science is hardly every settled and only the sharing of ideas and debate re research will lead to solid discoveries. Even then there is always more to learn, especially in regard to viruses. When a country quashes debate about important issues of the day, there are serious and dangerous red flags rising. ….. I send you a big hug, friendship and prayers. We are in this together.

            2. By the way, gas is about $3.25 a gallon here and will probably be rising. It differs between states for various reasons. I have read that the East Coast gets its oil from the M.E. and, of course, since Biden is stepping on the domestic oil industry the whole country is now more dependent. Depending on the ME is no solution given all the problems there and it will come back and bite us. We really do not have the technology to go totally “green” and we will be using carbon based fuel for the foreseeable future.

  7. CDC to Withdraw PCR Test Because it Cannot Distinguish Between Covid and Flu.

So the Flu just up’d and disappeared — or so people with no common sense thought. We are being lied to people — on all fronts. We must resist any further draconian rules from the current evil leaders.

Charlie’s post decries the question: Where are our leaders who will save Faith, Family and Freedom?

We’ve lost so much ground up to this point and have allowed so many evils to continue.

The 40 Days for Life begins again in September — everyone MUST come out, in mass, and demonstrate for Life! Your presence is required. It’s the one ongoing activity that continues to enflame evil — but brings about so much needed grace. So few souls come out to proclaim the sanctity of Life–this needs to change.

    1. I posted this on the previous post but it brings to light some of the discussion on why the Flu “disappeared” and the consequences of this disappearance in the near future.
The lockdowns and mask mandates have resulted in the lowering of other contagious illnesses but have had the unfortunate side effect of creating weak immune responses in future outbreaks setting up a potentially explosive cold and flu season in the winter of 2021/2022 which will in itself overwhelm our already stressed medical facilities. (Unless they start mandatory lockdowns again which will just kick the can down the road).

“I haven’t seen anything like this in 20 years of working as a virologist,” said Dr. Huang. “There’s usually a degree of pre-existing immunity due to the previous winter. When you don’t have that kind of protection, it’s a bit like a wildfire. The fire can just continue, and the chain of transmission keeps going.”

    2. Just for clarification, the test that the CDC is withdrawing from FDA approval this December 2021, is their own CDC lab developed PCR test. All the commercial PCR Covid tests are still moving forward. They are not being withdrawn for FDA approval. Most manufacturers use testing “kits” and they have many kits now that can reliably test for COVID, Flu A, Flu B. The advantage is all the testing on one swab instead of two – who wants their nose swabbed twice! Our lab tested for flu all last winter and there was very very few positives. We could get hit hard this year.

    3. Well, it’s a good thing we now have a reliable test available, just in time. “Mologic” (what an awful name!) is set to be purchased by a consortium including George Soros and Bill Gates, according to Forbes:

      From the article:
“Billionaires George Soros and Bill Gates are part of a consortium set to buy Mologic, a U.K.-based maker of Covid tests, in an effort to increase access to “affordable state-of-the-art medical technology” around the world, according to a statement released Monday.

“The Soros Economic Development Fund and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced the launch of a new initiative, Global Access Health (GAH), aiming to strengthen the global rollout saving medical technology and the subsequent acquisition of Mologic Ltd, best known today for the deep-nostril technology used to deliver rapid Covid-19 tests. The technology can also be used to test for dengue, bilharzia and river blindness.”

The article continues, for those interested.

Question, where are we going to find leaders? Local, regional? Do we tag on to other movements for example freepa.net? 40 Days for Life like San San recommended?

  9. Good stuff. I especially liked the Stephen King reference since I’m enjoying “The Long Walk” set in a dystopian America. Not even sure where the new paperback came from… just showed up in my stack!

Yes, “chilling effect” is about as ridiculously understated as the phrase “we’re staring into the abyss” rather than already plopped right into it. Can’t speak for the average American who has been caught flat-footed and unengaged, but think many of us are, or ought to be, well beyond problem identification at this point and on to getting our hands dirty.

Might still seem like it’s going to be a grueling match of stamina, but what of it. Our Lord meant what he said: His yoke is light.

    As such, it’s ‘doing’ time.

I have it on my heart to seriously save our blood donations. I feel it is crucial to collect and record unvaccinated blood donations.
I am just a mom. I’m not in the medical field. I’ve called the local Hoxworth, but they read from a paper & state there are no plans (AND NO NEED) to keep the donations separated.
    I disagree.

  19. Please pray for the repose of the soul of my “Uncle Joseph” as I was blessed to call him. He never formally learned to speak English, but he trusted me enough to practice aplenty whenever he came to visit or we went to see him. His favorite American food was my late husband’s BBQ. (Yummy choice!)

Msgr. Joseph Wang, who was a priest in the Archdiocese of Taipei for more than 60 years, embarked on his Final Journey Home, dying peacefully last evening. Of course, family and friends have hearts filled with sorrow AND gratitude. His brother, our Fr. John B Wang is totally at peace. Just yesterday, before Uncle Joseph’s passing, we had a private Mass for him.

Here’s a pic of fond memory, taken when Fr. John Wang celebrated his 50th Anniversary of Ordination 17 years ago. Where DOES the time go?!

      1. Thank you, Kim. They also had a biological sister who became a consecrated virgin. And this from a family who only had Mass once a year in the village. But the Wangs established a small chapel in their family compound to share with the villagers of faith. All would gather for prayer at the sound of a bell ringing in the mornings and evenings.

  22. May Uncle Joseph Rest In Peace and watch over us here below!
I just watched a long video on the Spirit Daily website……”video: no variant.” They monitor innovation globally for its effect on economics. He outlined 73 patents filed in the last 20 years pertaining to he development of covid and the toxic digitally manufactured spike protein. Covid was intentionally introduced. Patent office said the shot doesn’t meet the definition of a vaccine.
Most is in English, a bit in German
    https://spiritdaily.org/blog/news/video-no-variant
The video interview is spectacular. The patent applications year by year complete with names. They needed media hype to market the shot to the world. It is legal and economic instead of medical and it seems horridly logical. We’ve been duped big time.

  26. Didn’t see this one coming: from an online prayer group, “- newly ordained priest (60 years young) asking for prayers for a fellow seminarian- Vic. The Rector at the Seminary will not allow him to come back because of his refusal to get vaccinated. The Bishop will not support his decision.”
    Lord, please find a way…

      1. This is pure evil. It absolutely makes my blood boil.

I will pray for this seminarian. And I hope that somebody will put him in contact with Bishop Strickland or Archbishop Cordileone or Archbishop Aquila, and that one of these good bishops will invite him to attend whichever seminary that they send their guys to. If his own diocese and his own bishop (OH, I’m so mad!) don’t want him, I’m sure that some other good bishop will.

I should pray for his bishop, too.

I’m not on FB anymore but was told that a prominent attorney in our Catholic community has stated the all those irresponsible people who won’t get vaccinated should be shut down/quarantined. He had a lot of enthusiastic support for that comment. Neighbors turning against neighbors. Like a true communist country.

…”If you do only one thing for your own well-being today, whether you’ve been vaccinated or not, take the time to listen to part one of this interview with Dr. Robert Malone, and then find part two on Rumble and listen to it, as well. It could be the most important 20 minutes of your life.

In the videos I linked above, immunologist Dr. Robert Malone, inventor of mRNA vaccines, and staunch vaccine proponent, says the vaccine is making getting the virus more dangerous. That, as the least potent of the jabs, the Pfizer shot, wanes in efficacy, something called antibody-dependent enhancement takes place. “…
…”Steve Bannon, the interviewer, asked a final question in part one; basically, what would Dr. Malone recommend be done for us all? His answer was to use the currently suppressed treatments that are effective, such as Ivermectin.

Here’s a chart of Delta variant cases in India. If you remember, I wrote about an interview with Dr. Joseph Varon early in July. He’s the guy who has helped India achieve the startling diminution of cases of Delta, with his successful, Ivermectin-based treatment protocol. But of course, that’s cheap, easy, and effective, and would make people far less likely to take the dangerous vaccine.

It might also make the families of those who have died, after being told to “go to the hospital if you get too sick to stay home” pretty angry. Of the 600,000 plus who have succumbed to COVID, how many might have been saved? I’m guessing, conservatively, at least half.”

  28. THE PORTIUNCULA INDULGENCE

(THE PARDON PRAYER OF SAINT FRANCIS)

FROM VESPERS (NOON) OF AUGUST 1st
    UNTIL MIDNIGHT OF AUGUST 2nd,
THE FEAST OF OUR LADY OF THE ANGELS

In the words of Saint Francis:

“O my brothers and sisters, I want you all to go to Heaven!”

The Portiuncula Indulgence is a grace not to be missed – not only for yourself but for the many suffering souls in Purgatory.

The conditions to obtain the Plenary Indulgence of the Forgiveness of Assisi (for oneself or for a departed soul) is as follows:

Sacramental Confession: to be in God’s Grace (the Sacramental Confession can be done during the eight days before or after).
Participation in the Holy Mass and Eucharist.
Recitation of the Apostles Creed, Our Father and also a prayer for the Pope’s Intention (such as an Our Father, Hail Mary, etc.).

Mark your calendar for the Feast of Our Lady of the Angels beginning at Vespers (Noon) on the First of August to August 2nd at Midnight.

Tell everyone of the magnitude of this gift. Once again, we see the unfathomable Divine Mercy of God.
