All readers are invited to pray for those who ask for it and any who want to offer a word of comfort are invited to do so, as well. May we work together to mutually build each other up and support each other in times of trial.

Hello all. I was going to wait a bit before putting in this prayer request but with the way the world is going crazy, I may not have the chance later . My youngest daughter has a tumor on her adrenal gland. She is scheduled for surgery in September but must have a procedure next month to determine how extensive the surgery needs to be. We are grateful for an answer to years of frustrating symptoms. I pray we can get to and through a successful surgery. Thank you.

I just received this email, like so many I’ve read before:
“John Edwards died peacefully tonight right after family members finished praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Thank you for all your prayers. —Anne”
Speaking to Saint Faustina, Our Lord promised:
“At the hour of their death, I defend as My own glory every soul that will say this Chaplet, or when others say it for a dying person, the indulgence is the same.” “When they say this Chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person, not as the Just Judge but as the merciful Savior.”
Eternal rest grant to John, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him…

Pope Francis – July 2018 Prayer Intention
“Dear friends of The Pope Video,
Your parish priest is always available for you, to celebrate Mass, visit the sick, speak with someone who doesn’t have anyone else who will listen to him, and much more. But he’s not a superman. He’s a person who, like everyone else, also feels alone sometimes. During those moments of loneliness, you can do a lot for him. Listen to him, visit him, smile at him. He needs it:
Priests and their Pastoral Ministry – The Pope Video – July 2018 https://youtu.be/NNchmwMeOec
Let us pray together that priests, who experience fatigue and loneliness in their pastoral work, may find help and comfort in their intimacy with the Lord and in their friendship with their brother priests.”

My friend, Grace, was killed yesterday near Buffalo, SD. She was 55. Her small dog survived the wreck. She had quit her job in North Dakota and was returning to the Black Hills area to try again.
https://www.argus-press.com/news/state_news/article_0986ca21-83ea-5ba0-96d2-cdb3f17f3961.html
Grace had a life of pain and suffering, some self-induced, some not. You may recall the story about her losing her mobile home and all possessions in Sturgis due to an accidental fire.
She is one of the very few non-believers I shared details about the Storm with. My periodic efforts to share the Good News with her were ineffective. So, it was my hope and prayer that she would be one of those who would survive the Storm with new eyes and a love for God.
Eternal Father, I offer thee the body and blood, soul and divinity, of thy dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world….
…for the sake of his sorrowful Passion, have mercy on Gracie and on the whole world.
Please pray for the repose of Gracie’s soul.
Thank you.

So sorry to hear of your friend’s passing, Patrick. I have no doubt that Grace was blessed by your words of conversion in her lifetime. They could well have been the support she needed to repent and choose Jesus in her final hour. Praying for the repose of Grace’s soul and for all who love her.

Thank you for your prayer and consolation, Beckita. Hers is such a painfully tragic story. An important part of the Prayer Ministry for the Dying is praying the Divine Mercy chaplet for those who die unexpectedly, without belief in or knowledge about the love of God. This occurrence has brought so many tough questions to my mind, questions that I dearly wish to ask God about. At the same time, I realize they are unanswerable. Foremost is the matter about *trust* in His mercy. I have much to ponder. Thank you, my friend.
Jesus, we trust in you. Have mercy on us.

Patrick, I have read many stories about the Lord engaging people at the end of their lives, recounting to them their good deeds and drawing them to freely repent of their sins that they may be saved. Kathleen Beckman who wrote, God’s Healing Mercy, begins her work with this story about St. John Vianney:
A French woman walked many days to Ars and when she arrived at the confessional line in the church she was disappointed to discover it would be a two to three day wait to see St. John V. So, she walked up to the tabernacle, knelt at the communion rail and prayed. Suddenly the confession door swung open and St. John began speaking to this elderly woman: “He is saved.” The woman looked stupefied and responded: “How can this be?” (The “he” was her husband who had been an official in the French Revolution and had committed suicide, jumping to his death from a bridge.) St. John replied: “Did he not support you when you built an altar in your home to Our Lady? ” The elderly woman: “Of course, he supported me in every expression of my faith.” St John: “Based on this act of goodness, Jesus engaged your husband in those moments from the time he jumped until the impact of death, to offer him salvation if he would repent. And your husband repented.”
God’s Mercy is astounding!

Right, Jen?! María Concepción Cabrera de Armida (aka Conchita of Mexico) was a woman with a rich mystical life. Grace *is* a very beautiful name. Thank you for pointing that out, Little One. And thank you for your prayers.
In 2008, I became dear friends with an inpatient at Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs. Her name was Grace. I only knew her for one month, but we grew very close. We prayed the Rosary together and she helped me learn it in Spanish. She was from Mexico. Her full name was Graciela Guadalupe Salazar y Kazan, sharing two names of Our Lady whom she loved. As a parting gift, she gave me her Lebanese husband’s copy of “The Mystical City of God” by Ven. Mary of Agreda. (He protested because he cherished the book, but couldn’t say no to her. 🙂) She wrote an inscription in Spanish on the inside cover and dated it 12.12.08.
As her cancer progressed, she was in and out of lucidity. Several times while in a delirium, she attempted to describe something that I was supposed to get to work on. She said this “project” would have a lot of beautiful artwork in it, which she apparently could see. She said Our Lady of Guadalupe was central to this work. Intrigued, I would listen as closely as I could to her slurred words, but she would trail off into sleep. This happened several times. I did manage to catch the essence of what she was telling me but I could never get the details (Ah, how God works sometimes!) I believe that what Grace saw did come to pass three years later….
Anyway, I was talking with her during a visit when she suddenly said, “Yes?” I asked, “What is it, Grace?” She said, “Someone just called my name. It’s a woman. Can you hear it?” I told her I could not. She said, “I hear it again. The woman is saying my name: ‘Grace, Grace.’ She has a beautiful voice.”
Days later on another visit, she was in a semi-delirious state. Then suddenly she looked up at the wall opposite her bed and said the same question aloud, “Yes?” She told me it was the woman again. “Patrick, she’s calling my name, ‘Grace’….and now I can see her feet!”
My friend passed away on December 26, 2008, in the afternoon. I missed her death by moments, but the attending nurse, Shelley, was at her side when she took her last breath. Shelley told me that the expression on Grace’s face, which had been contorted with pain that she bore courageously throughout her dying, transformed into a beautiful one before her eyes. A minute later when I entered the room, I was in disbelief at what I saw — the beautiful, peaceful expression on Grace’s face could only be described as “angelic.”
I can’t wait to see her again.
Graciela, pray for us.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us.
Our Lady of Kazan, pray for us.

Ok Next Right Steppers, I have come to the conclusion that this is a spiritual battle. My daughter and son-in- law have an adopted son and are caring for his full bio sister. They have full support of the bio parents, grandparents, and local social services. The kids were born in a state other than the state the kids are living in, so social services from that state are involved. Adoption of the baby girl was supposed to be free to happen any time after March 1st. The only hold up is a signature on two standard papers. When my daughter talks to the social worker from the birth state, the worker says she doesn’t have time. It literally would take about a minute. More time is wasted saying she doesn’t have time, than it would take to do the task. We want to get this child baptized before she turns two! Please pray. Thanks.
Our Lady, Undoer Of Knots, please clear the path for adoption .

All this has affected his ability to work and maintain his affairs. He has just abruptly run off and moved 1500 miles away. He lost his faith many years ago, as a teen. He is vulnerable in many ways, he has no car of his own…he is far beyond our ability to help him now due to distance. Please pray for God’s divine intervention in his life and this poor mother’s wounded heart. Thank you so much. I will pray for the other intentions listed here.

Please pray for a friend’s friend’s grand daughter. She committed suicide last night and left 3 young children. Thank you.
(I am so tempted to send such requests out to the members of the Prayer Ministry for the Dying (PMD), but decided recently to keep our mission focused on just the DYING. Even when my friend Grace died, I did not contact the PMD members to pray for her. Included in our daily Divine Mercy Chaplet prayers, though, are those who die unexpectedly.
Still, it feels odd to NOT request prayers from as many people as possible. But where do I draw the line? What about prayers for the deceased? Or prayers for the sick? Or prayers for our priests? Since the Prayer Ministry for the Dying is about to expand, I feel we must stay focused on our mission: “Pray for the dying today, those for whom tomorrow will be too late.”(Ven. Mary Potter). So if a request such as this one comes to me, I pass it along to the prayer warriors here at The Next Right Step and Sign of Hope. Opinions are most welcome. Thanks. P)

Praying, Patrick, for the soul of this mother and the healing of the children and all who love this woman. What a heartbreak! Any and all petitions you choose to share are ever welcome here. Just one heartfelt Ave or a PMT or however people choose to respond in prayer has great value and becomes, for those of us who love to intercede, a means of personal sanctification. Really, we take nothing from the dying when we include the people connected to the dying one, for Christ’s Redemption is Infinite. One already deceased can benefit from our every prayer no matter how much later, after the death, it is offered. All time is ONE to the God of Abundance. God bless you for your faithfulness, Patrick. What a glorious Homecoming you will have when the souls you have presented to us and accompanied in your own prayers come out to greet you on the great day of your Final Journey Home.

Please keep my Uncle John Hickey in your prayers. He is in Surgery now and having a “Triple ByPass Heart” Surgery. (Syracuse, NY)
He is a fallen away Catholic, divorcee but I know he celebrated a Divine Mercy Sunday a few years ago. So I do have hope.
Thank you for your prayer.

Prayer Intention – Pope Francis
The Treasure of Families – The Pope Video – August 2018
No family is perfect. Love is demanding, although there is no greater happiness. There are many ways to approach the ideal of a Christian family (see “The Joy of Love” 32-57). But what all of them have in common is respect for others and lasting love, values that make them a treasure that must be protected:
Together, let us ask Jesus that any far-reaching decisions of economists and politicians may protect the family as one of the treasures of humanity.

Please pray for clear scans for my son-in-law as they track his cancer. Also asking for prayers for my son. He took a lower paying job due to policies he could not agree with in his former job. To afford this, he needs to refinance his house. Each time they get ready to close, something happens to delay the process. He doesn’t complain but I see it is taking it’s toll on his health.
Also, a dear friend, Deb, is in her final days as she battles her eighth cancer.
Praise you Lord Jesus, for your goodness and mercy. Thy Will be done.

My neighbors son, in his early 20's left an engineering job recently because of ethical problems he discovered and did not condone. He is a newlywed and his wife is in medical school. They moved out-of-state to Michigan years ago. To make ends meet, he took a job in construction that proved to take a greater toll on his physical strength than he imagined. He later applied for a less rigorous field construction position in another firm, and the interviewer apologized to him and said they are looking to hire an engineer, his area of expertise. Well he got that job and they are doing well. God is good!

All praise, thanks and honor to our Merciful God. Once again prayers have been answered in wonderful ways. Son-in-law’s cancer scan came back great. No new spots, one reduced and others unchanged. Son closed on his house as all glitches turned to the positive. Friend Deb is still suffering terribly, her family is exhausted. I am convinced she is doing her purgatory on earth and will see the face of Jesus immediately upon death of her earthly body. I wish you could all meet her. Her story is amazing. She was always going to write a book. Her daughter has promised to do it for her. Watch for the title Fire After the Flame.

Again I thank you and will pray for all here on these pages.

Please pray for Stephanie. She is (was) a member of the Rachel’s Vineyard support team. After a retreat about 6 months ago, a darkness immediately came over her. She has stopped going to daily mass, has withdrawn from nearly all church activities, and is apparently angry with God. She has pushed me and many others away.
Please pray for her that this oppression be lifted. Her faith is being sorely tested. The satan is furious with her effective, powerful pro-life witness, and God clearly has great plans and work for her to do still. The Church needs her.
Thank you.

I am so sorry that Stephanie is having this difficulty. I united my prayers with all here. Chaplet of Divine Mercy is such a powerful and beautiful prayer. I also prayed to have her covered with the Precious Blood of Jesus. I trust that our united prayers will place Stephanie in God’s care and protection in this spiritual battle she is experiencing. God bless all here.
