A few weeks ago, a fellow promised to cut off my tie if I wore one to a dinner I was to attend. Since I was not the main speaker at the event and it was at a home, I wasn’t planning to wear one anyway.
The first two years I started speaking around the country I was always casually dressed. The thing is that in relatively ordinary times, even at a low ebb, when your message is that the problems are systemic and going to get far worse – and particularly if there is a prophetic element involved – it is important for people to know that however seriously you take your work, you don’t stand on ceremony. It makes it easier for them to talk bluntly with you – and honestly consider your message. When chaos forcefully arrives and starts accelerating, people are soothed by a certain formality of appearance combined with easy jauntiness. I started wearing suits when I speak beginning in 2017.
Though there is (and always will be) something tousled and frumpy about me, I have always paid attention to how appearance affects a situation. I used to emphasize to political clients that even more important than how an event looked was how it felt. How does an event make the attendees feel? That is critical. In my first statewide campaign, I consciously emphasized my more tousled, frumpy nature. I figured out quickly that most top operatives were very buttoned down and coiffed. I also figured out I was shrewder and more decisive than they were…and far more willing to take calculated risks. Coming off dumpy made opponents simultaneously underestimate me and drove them wild when I outmaneuvered them. Being underestimated gives you a lot more room to maneuver. Driving opponents to distraction over being outmaneuvered makes them much more likely to start swinging wildly in frustration. Both give you a serious competitive advantage. By my second statewide race, I was just ordinarily frumpy: both opponents and the state’s press corps were on to me and there was no advantage to being more common than my ordinary state.
And yet, I must confess, if I am the opposite of slick, I have always preferred a certain formality. I rarely even wear polo shirts. If you catch me in a t-shirt you either just caught me waking up or I have lost a bet in the family. When I was still two years old my Mom and I were living with her parents in Birmingham. One day Mom sent me out to play in short pants (which were fine) and a t-shirt (which most decidedly was not). I sat fuming on the front stoop. My grandmother, who doted on me, came home from work, saw me sitting there in a funk and asked what was wrong. I bitterly complained that, “Mom made me go outside in my underwear.” To my astonishment, Mamo started laughing. I had thought she was going to go yell at Mom. It was the only time I can remember ever being mad at my grandmother. I sat in a deeper funk than ever. Eventually I was called back into the apartment. It may seem like a wasted day, but Mom never made me go out in my “underwear” again.
My second grade picture is comical. I just loved President Kennedy. In my photo, I tried to emulate one of his portraits. There I am, in my little green sweater, leaning in with a warm, but decisive look on my face. It was perfect for a bio shot – if it wasn’t of a too solemn second grader.

I hate to be back-tracking in less than a week, but I have drifted back into the DeSantis camp. Yeah, I loathe being fickle but, sheesh, this is like no other campaign in my lifetime.
What set me off was when Ron DeSantis suspended his campaign to handle the terrible damage and displacement in his state by Hurricane Idalia. He handled it with the smooth, easy competence he did the last hurricane – which makes them the two best crisis plans I have ever seen a governor carry out. So what did Donald Trump do? He sat on the sideline and took cheap potshots at DeSantis’ brilliantly executed crisis plan. Would that Trump had handled the Covid scare half as well and decisively as DeSantis did! Would that he had handled the Covid scare a tenth as well as DeSantis handled either of his two major hurricanes!
Our commenter, Pawel, noted last week that he wished DeSantis had come out early in full-throated defense of Trump against the weaponization of the law to try to railroad the man. So do I. I also wish that Trump had acknowledged early on DeSantis’ competence and fortitude.
If I was the prime strategist for these men, here is what I would encourage them to say – and then to live by.
First, Trump: “Ron DeSantis is a truly great governor. I think he will make a fine president one day. But we have unfinished business to take care of first. I showed that you can fight back effectively against the deep state and the globalists – and improve life for everyone in America while making the world safer by avoiding unnecessary wars and insisting that allies carry their share of the burden of our mutual defense. For this, the deep state has waged unrelenting and accelerating war on me before I even spent my first day in the Oval Office. It is not just me they are coming for. They will demonize anyone who touts the greatness of America and its people and challenges their privilege. The battle is joined between ordinary Americans and the deep state. It is mine to finish that battle – so that future presidents, no matter which party, may govern without seeking to rule; so that the opposition will always be loyal opposition, candidly competing for the approval of the American people without making politics into blood sport or a death match. My top priority is the dismantling of the deep state. I am uniquely qualified for this mission. Successfully carrying it out will leave a future President DeSantis room to govern rather than fight a retrograde battle with the dark forces in American politics that want to rule you. Let me carry to completion the battle I began: the battle to make America great again.”
Now, DeSantis: “We all owe Donald Trump a great debt of gratitude. He broke the ice, showing that we don’t have to sit by and preside over America’s decline by ratcheting ever leftward. It moves us toward a government that rules over every aspect of American’s lives rather than acting by the consent of the governed. The weaponization of law to try to get Trump is a criminal offense against our polity – and if elected I will work to jail every person who has misused the justice system to try to punish and tie up mere political opponents. Trump has forced the crisis that has been long in coming; a crisis that might not have come had we been vigilant in defending liberty in the first place. Trump took us from point C – which was despairing acceptance of decline to point B – which is fighting back for the values we hold dear. In the process he has gotten so deeply into the weeds that he is ready to fight anyone who disagrees with him on anything. What started as a Make America Great Again agenda has drifted into a fealty to Trump at all times agenda. That is understandable. Few men have ever had to deal with the sustained and unjust public pummeling that Trump has. But that will not get us to point A – a healthy country that respects and defends the rights of all. I will get us all to point A with the same steady resolve I used in fighting Disney’s efforts to hijack our people’s sovereignty; in stopping the DEI crowd from bowdlerizing our schools; in taking porn out of our school libraries despite the left shrieking that was censorship; and handling a few natural disasters effectively in my spare time. It is time for the restoration of America. I am the man to lead that effort, just as I did in leading it in Florida.”
Again, I do not believe we will get anywhere near the election before catastrophic confrontation breaks out. But I do believe that it is important that those who seek to be leaders now show the sort of grace under pressure that we will need to rebuild effectively then. If either of these candidates said something near to what I have envisioned, I would not be drifting back and forth between them.

Given the glad hosannas Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem was met with on Palm Sunday, I have long thought the malignant Sanhedrin must have packed the courtyard with their men in the wee hours of Good Friday. This gave them the false veneer of public approval over their judicial murder that was, most decidedly, contrary to the public’s approval. But so it ever is with tyrannical public malefactors. They contrive what they can’t win.
This brings to mind the upcoming Synod on Synodality. It seems to me to largely be a device to contrive the appearance of broad public support for an assault on Scripture, the Magisterium, and the very legitimacy of Church authority.
Early in his papacy I was bemused when Pope Francis accused Catholics who criticized his desire to loosen the regulations on communion for those who are remarried as ‘Pharisees.’ “Huh!” I thought, “He got it exactly backwards.” It was the Pharisees who wanted loose rules on divorce and remarriage and Jesus who insisted on the covenantal permanence of the marriage bond. The Pope was, literally, taking the Pharisaical position while accusing his opponents (and presumably, Jesus) of being Pharisees. It was relatively early in his papacy and I thought perhaps his frustration had caused him to get it exactly backwards. It did not occur to me that he might not know the actual Scripture involved. Now I am not so sure.
Words have objective meanings. Today we are besieged with people who engage in specific behavior using words to describe that behavior as a synonym for ‘bad.’ Thus, people who have adopted the ideology and tactics of fascists call their opponents…‘fascists.’ People who take the identical position as Pharisees did call their opponents ‘Pharisees.’ Decades ago, a student about to graduate from a major journalism school asked me if she could write a case study on a public dispute I had been at the center of. She had worked as an intern at a newspaper at the time the dispute unfolded, so had been witness to the controversy from start to finish. She got an A+ on her paper and showed it to me after it had been graded. Oddly, she had described me as a “crusading liberal” and my antagonist as an “archconservative.” It was a good paper, otherwise, on the facts, and I told her so, but noted she had gotten the ideological description wrong: that I was the conservative and my antagonist the liberal. She was suddenly disconsolate – as if I had just killed her puppy. “That can’t be,” she wailed. “You are kind and helpful to everyone – and he was vicious and a liar.” Puzzled, I asked her what she thought the terms ‘conservative’ and ‘liberal’ mean. About to graduate with honors from a major journalism school, she honestly thought ‘conservative’ meant evil and ‘liberal’ meant good. I explained to her the ideological reality of the terms and concluded by saying I was, indeed, a kind and helpful conservative and my opponent was a vicious liberal – separating the actual ideological meaning of the terms from the character descriptions. This dumbing down of the understanding of the specific words is an assault on language and reality, itself.
Just over a week ago, Pope Francis ripped “reactionary” American Catholics who supposedly don’t understand how the faith evolves over time. The development of doctrine over time is a reality as our understanding deepens. The contradiction of defined doctrine is NOT. It is an offense and a stench in God’s nostrils. It was bracing to hear this most political of popes accuse those who want to faithfully abide by Scripture and the Magisterium as ‘political.’ What he meant by that is that these “rigid” folks are resistant to his changes to the faith that would make it more acceptable to the political climate, regardless of its consonance with the Magisterial faith.
In the same interview, Pope Francis said that, “today it is a sin to possess atomic bombs; the death penalty is a sin…it was not so before.” Perhaps the development of doctrine will eventually conclude that either of these things is always sinful (though I doubt it). But they do not become sinful just because a Pope unilaterally says so. The Pope is NOT the successor to Christ; he is the successor to Peter, who was appointed as guardian and guarantor of Christ’s teachings. He cannot contradict defined doctrine – and he most assuredly cannot make it up as he goes along. He cannot even formally define a development of doctrine without the open consent of a counsel – or through a formal infallible statement that must be in concert with the Bishops of the world.
The Church, too, is headed for an irrepressible conflict with those who want to make it something entirely different and opposed to what it has been for over 2,000 years confronting those who are determined to stand with Christ and the Apostles. Throughout the world a serious effort is being made to destroy the Church from without. Minnesota is considering a law that would effectively ban Christians from working as teachers. In several states, Christians are barred from fostering or adopting children because they will not ever agree to mutilate them for “gender-affirming” care. In some states, children can be taken from natural Christian parents for refusing the same. I have just touched on the problems in the United States. Elsewhere, it is worse. In much of Europe, you can be arrested for praying in public view or reciting Scripture. In Finland, they want to send you to jail for quoting the Bible.
What is most jarring and confusing for the folks in the pews is that, this time, the assault from without is joined by a rising assault from within. Prelates and clerics who support overthrowing the Magisterium and denying the plain words of Scripture are praised and promoted by the Vatican. Prelates and clerics who hold fast to the faith as handed on by Christ and the Apostles, such as Cdl. Burke, Cdl. Pell, Abp. Vigano, and Bp. Strickland are investigated or removed from authority by the Vatican. It shakes the faithful to their core.
But have no fear. God is not mocked. The truth is that He is cleaning house, first by exposing those who think to correct Him. They stand forever revealed. Unless they repent, they will be cast into outer darkness. For each of us the challenge is, first, to live fidelity to the faith. God does NOT evolve. Our understanding of Him may deepen and mature – but it will not and cannot ever contradict defined doctrine. The second challenge is to live trust – trust that God is not mocked and will set things right. You can fight if you wish, so long as you do not let yourself degenerate into mere vengeful combativeness. You can hunker down and live the faith with your family and friends, praying for the abuses to pass, praying for God to set things right. Above all, animated by your faith and trust, you must go forth, carrying the Gospel with you to those around you during this time of trial. Pray that the light of Christ will shine through you with brilliant clarity, giving new hope and new resolve to all who encounter you.
I am not inclined to pay any attention to the Synod on Synodality. To me, it is just a fancy new name for religious elders assembling a mob to crucify Christ anew along with Scripture and the Magisterium.
All you laymen who labor steadily in the Lord’s vineyard; all you Priests and Religious who live fidelity to the faith; all you Bishops who faithfully guard the Deposit of Faith handed on to us through the ages and teach it with fidelity; take heart! I am convinced that your deliverance is at hand. All those who think to remake the Church in their own petty, grasping image will be blown away as so much useless chaff. Those who kept fidelity under the assault of those who, within and without the Church, thought they had power to destroy her are a delightful incense in God’s nostrils – and will be rewarded extravagantly.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
If communication goes out for any length of time, meet outside your local Church at 9 a.m. on Saturday mornings. Tell friends at Church now in case you can’t then. CORAC teams will be out looking for people to gather in and work with.

Great piece. And timely. I’ve been wondering and praying what I should do given the direness of the times.
I am a public high school English teacher. It’s been difficult to try and live what I believe without crossing all sorts of lines. Like when students are telling me about their vaccine appointments, how their parents are making some of them get the vaccine, how they’re transgendered, etc. I feel compelled to say something, and I always do. I always frame it as “Well, here is what I personally think. You’re free to disagree, but…” and then try and give them as much info as possible about why they shouldn’t take the shot or continue on the path of hormone treatments, etc.
Thankfully I live in a mostly conservative area, but still. I wonder if I’m doing enough. If I were in high school I would want someone to warn me, so shouldn’t I be doing more to ring the bell? But if I do, I might lose my job. But does that make me a coward/not trusting enough of God?
Am I doing more good by clearly articulating the side of truth in a subtle way or should I be more forceful? I don’t want to lecture or harangue my students but some are well on the way of ruining their health/lives. Other teachers here have encouraged students to get vaccinated. I have (gently) encouraged them to not. Is that enough?
Some days, going along just trying to be a good, engaging teacher seems like insanity. Going about business as usual when everything spins out of control. Like being in Poland and talking about literature in late August of 1939 when the tanks and such are marshalling right on the border.

ChasePro, such a difficult place to be! Let me first tell you that I will pray for you for guidance from the Holy Spirit.
I have a girlfriend who taught biology for the public school system in Phoenix for many years. She had a huge conversion–she was living in a lesbian relationship and by the grace of God, realized how wrong it was. She turned her life around and in so doing, used her teaching to share truth with her students. She taught the pro-life platform in a very simple way, without being overt (I mean, seriously, it’s biology! She just used what she had to teach them!).
I wonder if you could do the same for your students to seek truth. A research project that gives them the means to explore alternate platforms (instead of MSM) to find other perspectives. With the grace of God, perhaps this would help them to recognize truth from fiction and evil agendas. Or perhaps a class on logical fallacies to help them think things through?
This would all be within the realm of your “English” class so it couldn’t be questioned.
God be with you! You’re fighting the good fight…the very difficult fight.

Dear Chasepro,
My sons are both teachers and were lucky to have principal who said, here in Oregon! “we are here to teach the students to think, not what to think.” And left his teachers to be teachers and steer their students toward the truth (the Truth). It is difficult to walk the line, but when the principal is behind you, it sure helps. Probably I should mention that we are in a small town that, at last count, has 20 Christian churches, the largest being St. Paul’s Catholic Church. ⛪️

Charlie: This one was really “A Sign of Hope!” Thank you! We needed that. When the Vatican itself and all the “king’s horses and all the king’s men” are fully arrayed against the historic faith and morals of the Church, it is so very easy to get discouraged! I pray and hope that you are truly right and that God’s victory is really on the way!

(Just a trivial observation: with all his bravado, T. needs a thick-skin so he’s not distracted by personal insults like this week with Ann Coulter; he retorts with missives of his own instead of ignoring it and concentrating on the real issues,-so juvenile).

Actually, Maggie, one item I’ve learned in terms of the true Evil core of people who are trying to enslave or kill us is that they have a Rule which states that they must tell us what they are about to do to us in order to give us the opportunity to say no to them and make it clear we don’t give them that permission. Since few of us have known about that Rule, we have almost never responded with a clear “No!” when they have filled their media and news and movies with statements of what they are going to do to us. When we do not respond with a clear No, their Rule allows them to interpret our lack of a No as acquiescence, as a Yes. The result has been horrific to many people for millennia.
Trump knows about this Rule, and he has developed his responses as his way of making certain that those he feels are wronging him or are seeking his acquiescence by doing or saying something in the hope he will not respond are made crystal clear that he does not accept their behavior or attack. In so doing, there are situations where he is representing us in saying his No.
We see his behavior as boorish because we don’t understand the Rule. We’re polite and when treated badly, often simply fade away. We fail to protest when the Evil core of people threaten us with a future attack.
Since we are trained to be polite, we can react badly to someone who understands the Rule and is constantly being threatened or pushed down or damaged by a lot of people in the public square, as is the case for Trump. He looks boorish in our eyes, so we think he has to be a boorish man overall and even in private life. In fact he is under attack and has learned always to respond and to try to turn the attack back on the attacker as both protection and as an attack on our enemies in the war we are in now. It’s the opposite of polite, of course, and sometimes his responses are not fully on target, but his “mean tweet” tactic is not just some character flaw for us to dismiss.
It’s my observation that he is kind and careful when with friends and not boorish, but he has cultivated a boorish public persona which has as part of it an ability to respond to attacks and use the Rule appropriately. He is also doing this because it confuses his enemies and is meant to expose to *us* both the Rule and the attack that he is responding to.
Because of his method of responding, he lives in the minds of his enemies (our enemies) 24/7/365, which is a huge tactical and strategic advantage we also don’t appreciate because we don’t think that way.
I’ve also noticed that it’s particularly hard for women to see the advantages and need for the use of such a tactic. As a male, I mostly find that the people he directs his “mean tweets” to do deserve them. I temper my agreement with his exposures of others by realizing that some he is “mean-tweeting” about are true patriots he is giving cover and separation to, so that they can do good things without being tagged a Trumper. Often I find his tweets highly entertaining, a kind of oneupmanship that is a serious application of the oneupmanship common playfully in the world of professional wrestling that he has a lot of experience and feels at home in. I *never* liked the performances of Don Rickles, who I felt was training his audiences to abase themselves and allow him to abuse them as if his put-downs were funny when they were not. I always felt he had a serious streak of meanness in him that drove his “entertainment.” He liked it too much. I don’t get any such vibes with Trump. He is doing this out of necessity.
It’s definitely a very male tactic, and one only a true alpha male harried by his enemies would use so pointedly. I find it admirable in a way, that he can engage in such a serious fight for his life and reputation yet so often make it both entertaining to outsiders like me and also the tip of the spear for so much of his success in prosecuting this war by exposing people we didn’t know were doing bad things. I cannot count the number of people I did not know were evil or that are damaging our country and the world until he exposed them to us and to me through mean tweets.
But the tactic does come with some costs, which I hope someday he will have an opportunity to address for all of us.

Maggie, since I am not within the circles of the Evils (thank God, literally), I could be wrong about there being a Rule. However, I’ve heard about it from so many different sources, many quite credible, over the past several years that I tend to believe it. I also have looked at a lot of movies and public ceremonies over the years and have seen some weird stuff. An example: I can’t find the exact video I remember of the Opening Ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics, but at the time I could not watch those ceremonies and had to leave the room. Dark reinterpretations of the Industrial Revolution’s dark mills presaging what “they” want for us in the future, a section where they glorify the NHS of all things, with a giant figure of Death, demons going after kids in their beds, adult nurses and doctors dancing (remember online video dances put out by nurses in 2020?) and then acting dead from a disease. The whole thing was insanely creepy, even to the aerial views showing lighting patterns on the roof of the stadium that look now like color-coded pictures of a spiked virus, wall screens that show electrocardiograms, and more. There are so many more such instances that look very strange in hindsight. In the movie, The Matrix, which was released in 1999, Neo’s driver license expires on Sep 11, 2001. Weird. I’m hearing now in video collages online that the date 9/23 is often the day disasters happen in movies. Why? I don’t know. Tons of instances where aberrant sexual mores are glorified, first just a little and then more and more as things progress and nobody really stands up and says no and where the goal appears to be to normalize pedophilia in our society and laws. Pedophile symbols in movies. Obscene scenes hidden in old Mickey Mouse cartoons so subtly you can’t see it unless you really look for it. Some say that Monsters, Inc movies are all about scaring kids to manufacture adrenochrome, a highly addictive substance that the elites are now known to use.
Now people are starting to say no, and it seems the enemy is at least somewhat taken aback by that. Anyway, once one’s eyes are opened to this hinting and illustrating of the future, it becomes pretty obvious that we are often warned beforehand or told in certain ways what is actually being done to us. And mostly we like it. I loved the first Monsters Inc movie, so was I complicit or approving of what the elites do to kids? I don’t know, but it makes me uncomfortable when I think of all the times I accepted something because it was a cool movie and I had no idea it was actually giving me the opportunity to say no to something evil and I failed to see that and say that “No” that I might have said if I had understood that Rule years ago. How much evil have I not stood up to when I could have, just because I did not know what I was seeing or what I needed to do when given that opportunity? It’s quite a sobering thought that so much of what I do or enjoy or need is attached to requests to approve something evil and I still miss a lot of it or still buy a product I need even though it is made by economic slaves or by poor children who spend their days helping mine cobalt for pennies a day. After a while I see that almost everything we do or touch or buy or invest in or vote for and so on is in some way corrupted by evil.
And that is one of the reasons I believe in God – I know the satan exists. I can’t look at a world so thoroughly touched by so many tendrils of evil and believe a small group of mere humans are capable of creating such an interlocking fabric of evil almost everywhere I look now. Such a net of evil points to a non-human intelligence working within time for thousands of years with implacable determination to corrupt literally everything and everyone. And if such an intelligence exists, God must also exist. We have an Ally against all this network of evil. What will our world be like when that net of evil is burned out and that evil intelligence locked away? I can barely imagine.

Oh my Steve you have explained in clear, reasoned, fashion why I cannot seem to bash Trump like so many do because of his boorish style.
I, like you, see him honestly fighting with every fiber of his being against evil forces. I can’t even imagine being slaughtered from every angle 24/7 like he has been for years on end. And at his age with a young son who also has to endure the constant evil barrage against his father.
I pray for strength and protection for Trump and his family to persevere for the sake of the people he represents – the silent majority who are becoming a bit irritated by the constant poking of the evil beast.
St Michael the Archangel defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil! Jesus, we trust in You!

Glad you’re back in the DeSantis camp Charlie, although after watching the debate I’d vote for any of the Republican candidates over Trump. I also like Tim Scott although the debate wasn’t his best moment, and Nikki Haley is a good choice too. The best thing in the world, IMO, would be for Trump to be permanently sidelined. The Republicans’ have a much more impressive field from which to choose, and the dems have no one. If they are hanging their hat on Newsom – I don’t think he’ll play in Peoria–people all over the country hate the Californian invasion because the state is such a hot mess. I have heard rumors of the Dems sneaking in Michele Obama at the convention, which would probably energize the party but could be very hard to pull off – although in today’s climate anything can happen.
I’d love your opinion on how the Republicans can frame the abortion issue. Living here in an Abortion Sanctuary state, there is virtually no questioning “abortion rights”. Personally, I think the Republicans should continue to focus on late term abortion bans.
Liberals have been successful because they don’t take a whole issue head on but use incremental tactics to achieve goals – for example: Gay couples just want to have legal domestic partnerships, then gay couples have a right to marry, then because gay marriage is legal we need to teach kindergartners that two mommy/daddy families are wonderful and now it has morphed into transgenderism. If they had taken on all these issues in the first volley – it would have died in the tracks.
Republicans have never figured this tactic out.

Well, I’m not a solid entry into either camp right now so it could change again.
As for pro-life, I am working on some things to take back the narrative. I think we have moved too slow on the pro-life side on this and am champing at the bit. But that is quietly ongoing.
I have certainly worked incrementally, but to use it as a stealth tactic to take over entirely only works when you start from a base of normality and can depend on the polite submission of your opponents to the increments. It is not that conservatives have not learned that method, but that we face radically different circumstances due to a radical, hair-trigger opposition. They call limiting abortion to the first 15 weeks a “ban.” They call limiting it to 30 weeks a “ban.” They call limiting it to any time before birth a “ban.”
I think we have incrementalized ourselves into Armageddon. Do not think because I sometimes give traditional political analysis that I think anything other than radical circumstances are going to revive us. I am pretty much in “unconditional surrender” mode when it comes to the shrieking left. I think that God is contriving events to give us those radical circumstances – and oddly the devil is cooperating by whipping his earthly minions into frenzied rage. But prudence suggests to me that I ought to work in some traditional strategies in case I am wrong. But I am not.

The task of doing ones duty/vocation ( like traditional strategies) doesn’t end because one day we may die or life may change.
Living the Divine Will is a state of mind where ALL your actions are His will for you. God is in charge and even the enemy He uses for His own purpose.
The miracle of the girl receiving her sight back at the World Youth Day is just such a notice of who’s in charge. God was showing us He still is in His church and working through his prelates. Charlie has mentioned this before and I think it important he “tells us true” when errors occur but I too think we need to always remember to look for those “thunderous whispers” God sends to remind us that He is still leading us through the crooked life lines we live for: “When these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”

Another great one, Charlie! I love the statements you wrote for each of the two “major guys”. Then on the Pope, I can’t even stand to read a word he speaks! I love the Scripture you used at the end, and I use it in prayer each day: “As for me and my household…….” Another line struck a chord with me, because I have prayed it a number of times. I’ve asked the Lord to let His Light shine out from me and make a difference in every person I’m near, without their knowing how it happened, or by whom.
May I humbly ask for prayer for LM, who is in a very, very, dark place and needs a powerful zap by the Holy Spirit. I need inspiration about how to help.

Near as I can tell, Diane, the tour includes the Midwest. I don’t know if it’s because no one else has invited or what 🤷🏼♀️ I just don’t see any west of the Rockies or in the east. Perhaps there will be more published. St. Jude is also the saint of hope. Our Archbishop sent out a prayer card a few years back and I pray it every day. “Prayer to St. Jude for tomorrow.” …May your path of Hope be mine in the days ahead.” I pray to be a sign of hope.

I have a very, very good friend who lives in Florida. She lived for quite a few years in Pennsylvania and worked as a very competent sub in my Pennsylvania school district. She has recently worked as a sub in Florida schools. She speaks Spanish and English extremely well and is an American citizen of Hispanic descent. She is highly educated…..She tells me that Florida schools are hiring teachers that do not speak English to teach in Florida schools. For example, they are hiring Spanish-speaking teachers to teach math to English-speaking students. She says she does what she can to teach the subject when she acts as a sub. However, she schools are quite a mess and she does not want to do sub work any more.. She is doing other work right now….While it is possible that this is not happening everywhere in Florida, I trust that what she tells me is true. I think that we can agree that this creates an impossible situation for American students. It also highlights the growing teacher shortage in the nation. I thought that I would share the information. It is just some more evidence of serious and growing problems of education infrastructure in the USA…….She also tells me many people coming over the border are very arrogant. They do not speak English and have some higher level education from their native land. They feel they deserve high level jobs, in spite of the face that they do not speak English. Since she understands Spanish very well, I expect that what she tells me is quite true. She also says that her area of Florida has changed a lot. She is considering a move to Texas…….As I said, this may not be true of all areas of this state. But I do trust that what she tells me is true because she is a very honest and honorable person. I know her well…..I am just adding to the conversation here on the board and sharing some facts. I wish y0u all a good day.

I don’t doubt your friend’s report a bit, Judith. American Public Education is an institution which has long been in a steady decline of failing our students. I taught for 30+ years, intending to bring the Light of Christ to my students and their families as I studied beyond college training and then implemented some effective strategies over the years. As I see it, just as America has died, so has the institution of our public schools… right alongside every other institution we have. But I KNOW God has a better way at every level of our society. Prayers for all teachers and families who are in the thick of this educational muck and who yearn for better days with God’s better ways.

I have wonderful classes this year. A group of very fine young people. I also work with some fine teachers whom I admire greatly for all they do. Of course, there are some weak links, as in every field. I am fortunate, I think, that the some of the troubling things have not directly touched me yet.

So many of my fellow Catholics think he is, who never looked into his history, who never looked into his cabinet choises (hint: whomever flattered him), etc, because I could go on.
DeSaantis is not the Messiah either but maybe look at his record and do a iittle comparison? You wanna drain the swamp? Take a look?

How often Charlie has conveyed in his writing that our victory in the Lord will not come from one man riding a white horse onto the scene. And even if we did have a pristine, charismatic president, we cannot forget the widespread, pervasive corruption in the government and how all of our institutions have failed us. As Charlie once wrote: “We are not strangers in a strange land: we are natives in a land that has become estranged from us. It is the hour of the ordinary man – and we are called to restore our native land to its just place under God. Ave Maria, Stella Maris!”

Charlie’s not the Messiah either, Beckita. As human beings we are wont to idolize. If we can’t see imperfection in another human being, that’s a clue. I haven’t been free from it myself but I have been burned by it and I try to watch my reactions more carefully now. My point was that I ‘ve learned not to listen to someone’s words as much as actions. Guess what, none of us are the Messiah, Beckita, but Jesus is. Best to follow, best to trust in Him.

Abraham wasn’t the Messiah, but he was chosen by God to lead His people and lead Abraham did. Moses wasn’t the Messiah, but he, too, was chosen by God to lead His people. We are at another juncture in salvation history where – by God’s own design – we need leadership. God choosing to move through His chosen leader, Charlie, does NOT prevent anyone from placing God at the center of one’s heart and life. It does NOT negate following and trusting in God, His Will and His Ways as the foundation in exerting one’s human will to partner with Him. Reread today’s first reading wherein Ezekial was commissioned in leadership “as watchman for the house of Israel.” God chooses leaders. I’m grateful that He also equips those leaders as imperfect as each human is. Finally, take care, lest you accuse someone of something that’s not in that one’s heart. Maybe your experience of having been burned is causing you to project what isn’t there. I don’t know. That’s for you to consider.

Well, you actually included Charlie within the discussion about your point made again here, Jazz. In fact, we never disagreed concerning the danger of making idols out of people. I simply jumped in with giving credit to Charlie’s pieces concerning the Ballad of the Ordinary Man which highlight that each of us has a role to play in God’s Plan unfolding before us. He invites us – each and every one – into co-creating with Him in His wondrous work of making all things new. This is my last comment in this discussion. God bless.

In these times of turmoil, scripture reminds us that these things have and must come.
“We know of better and lasting possessions and how suffering might gain us an even better resurrection. So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.”
“Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you endured in a great conflict full of suffering. Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. There were others who were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection. Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.
These people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth. People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain. I had an interesting Close Encounter of the 3rd Kind with a Hummer this Evening.
Sheba & I were on The Perch as we are wont to do for Happy Hour when a Hummer showed up which is not unusual but they usually just hover for a moment to give us the fish-eye and flit away. This one landed on the railing for a bit then a minute later did a Touch & Go on the book I was reading? I couldn’t help but wonder if the little critter was trying to tell me something?
I have a feeder hanging beneath The Perch so I decided to check it. It was empty so I can’t help but believe that he/she was saying:
”HEY MISTER!! The Feeder is Empty! What Ya gonna do about it!?” ….. 😉
It was empty and once refilled at least three Hummers were there within 90 seconds.
I call the Yard Critters the Triple F-A ….. Feathered & Furry Freeloaders Association!
