Scenes Through the Looking Glass, Part I

Blasted Lands – Rene Augner

By Charlie Johnston

I am working on a big piece in anticipation of a huge year in salvation history next year. I have decided it would best be held until after Christmas.

Everyone knows the country and the world have become utterly unrecognizable. We have been living the prelude to the fall. Everything is absurdity. If you oppose sexualizing children you are called a hater who supports actual violence. Same if you support free speech. In this Looking Glass World, to oppose censoring conservatives is to ‘threaten free speech.’ Lefties release criminals left and right, who then go on to commit more violent crimes, which allows lefties to call for more gun control. Hey guys, crime control disarms criminals; gun control disarms victims. I thought, today, I would survey a few scenes from the frontlines of the terminal madness that is eating away at what was once a great country.

What’s With Trump These Days?

While never a big fan of Trump’s bombast, when I saw his commitment to keeping his promises and his shrewdness in pushing policies that were for the good of all and actually worked, I became a big fan. I like people who get good results even if their methods are significantly different from mine. I figured that perhaps his bombast even helped forward his policy goals in ways I did not quite understand.

I got disenchanted when he started attacking people he had endorsed, not because they did not strive mightily, but because they failed. I got very annoyed when he attacked Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis – a man who has tried mightily and succeeded on our behalf. I was baffled when he had his dinner with Kanye West – who has been spouting real anti-semitism for months (personally, I think West is suffering a mental breakdown) – and Nick Fuentes, a genuine white supremacist. It made me wonder who is doing his vetting and advance work. It was a terrible blunder, but one that did not reveal a dark heart. It would be very hard to find a president who was as courageous, effective and forthright in his support of Israel. But it sure was an unforced error. Then his big announcement last week was about overpriced, over-hyped digital trading cards (NFT)?! That same day he gave a very serious, sober speech about his commitment to America’s basic freedoms and how he would protect and renew them. But it was entirely overshadowed by the NFT fiasco.

I did not support the mission of American renewal because Donald Trump led it; I came to support Trump because his actions advanced the mission of American renewal. Want to fire on the enemies of American history, memory and values? I’m all for it. But when you start firing on allies in the mission before us because they might be rivals to you, that is not going to fly with me.

Now the House J6 Committee has passed on criminal referrals against Trump that are even more fact-free and vapid than the Russian Collusion hoax or the two impeachment efforts were. He will be indicted by illegitimate office-holders simply because the left hates and fears him. Certainly, I will defend him vigorously and call on Americans to punish the people who have destroyed our justice system to vent their hatred. But I am wondering whether Trump has lost the narrative. It is about the mission, not about developing a cult of personality. I wonder if maybe he really is losing some steps because of his age, which would explain the serial lapses in judgment these last few months.

When Michael Jordan came to the Chicago Bulls, Coach Doug Collins came in and brought a formerly mediocre team to the brink of contending for the title. It was a stunning and unpopular move when Bulls management fired Collins in the off-season and replaced him with Phil Jackson. At the time, the Bulls’ spokesman said that Collins did a great job in taking the team from point C to point B, but that Jackson was the man to take them to point A. That justification was greeted with sullen derision. Then Jackson took the Bulls to six world championships.

In the Gospel of John it is written that, “…one man sows and another reaps.” (John 4:37) We owe Donald Trump a profound debt of gratitude for busting up the saloon of leftist incompetence and malice and revealing the depth of the rot in social institutions. I think he truly was a great president who was robbed of his second term. But unless there is a serious course correction and much tighter message discipline, I have come to think that Ron DeSantis is the best man to get us to point A.

We have now reached the point where some European countries have decreed the Covid shots to be more dangerous than Covid, itself. Germany, France, Italy, Sweden and Denmark are among the countries walking away from the shots while outright banning them for younger people. Even so, some US authorities are still pushing them and pining for the heady days when they could mandate this poison.

Look back in the archives here and you will find that I have said consistently, from the start, that based on the animal trials, it would take two to three years for the long-term adverse effects to start kicking in. We are there. The shots began wide distribution just over two years ago. Now we are awash in myocarditis in young people, a vast increase in all-cause deaths year-to-year, and very quickly the largest cause of death is becoming “unexplained.”

It is going to get worse. Already many people who unquestioningly bought the narrative are expressing doubts and regrets. You can hide the reality when it is just mindless news readers and compromised public health authorities gaslighting, but when people you know start having serious unexplained problems and dying suddenly, people start to get wise to the grift. It is big enough here that it cannot be contained. It is going to get worse, and many will suffer loss.

Most of the people who bought the narrative did nothing wrong: they simply trusted institutions that, for most of their lives, had been trustworthy. Most people are not serious researchers. When they say they have done research they mean they have watched a news show or read a magazine or newspaper article. People should have gotten suspicious when authorities were trying to censor competing views and when they started mandating all manner of nonsense. Only bad actors do such things – and trust should be, at least, suspended from those who do. But here we are.

As I have also said from the beginning, God is not mocked. It was almost a given that when officials oversold a moderate crisis as an existential threat, we would end up faced with a real crisis. Even so, God does not want our destruction. He wants our reclamation by turning back to Him. The Brazen Serpent Prayer Card was designed last spring to help people overtly turn back to God for healing without spurning the natural means God provides for us. You can download the prayer here or order cards from Full of Grace USA.

If, like me, you have loved ones who took these dangerous shots, do not taunt them as it becomes clearer how bad these things really are. Pray for them, offer them this prayer, then live solidarity with them as best you can. If some of them were imperious nags about “the science,” (which they clearly knew nothing about) do not treat them as they treated you now that the shoe is on the other foot. Treat them well, but remind them of this disastrous fiasco if they ever get imperious with you again.

Kennedy Assassination

I was disappointed that Tucker Carlson cited an unnamed CIA agent as the single source of his blockbuster claim that the CIA was involved in the assassination of Pres. John Kennedy. It had all the sourcing and probative value of the establishment media’s endless claims of how the walls were closing in on Trump. While Tucker is the gutsiest, most on point TV host out there, he has a penchant for occasional poorly sourced clickbait stuff.

A conspiracy is possible, but it must be embedded within the framework of the indisputable forensic reality and the short timeline based upon when the Dallas trip was planned. The idea that Oswald was a long-standing CIA operative is laughable for anyone who knows the history. Oswald was a pathetic loser with delusions of grandeur who failed at everything he tried. He was volatile and unreliable. Most assassination conspiracy theories do violence to known facts to try to shoehorn their theories in. The famous “Magic Bullet” theory propounded by former New Orleans DA Jim Garrison required you to pretend that Gov. Connally’s jump seat in the presidential limo sat directly in front of Kennedy rather than being indented six inches, as it actually was.

Vincent Bugliosi, the former Deputy Los Angeles DA who successfully prosecuted Charles Manson and his ‘family,’ compiled the massive book, “Reclaiming History,” which covers the Kennedy assassination AND the major conspiracy theories. It leaves little room for a conspiracy, because it shows how the major conspiracy theories deal with counter-factuals to make their theories work. There are certain things we know with absolute certainty. As of yet, I have found no conspiracy theorist who respects – or even has done enough to know – what those things are.

That said, there is one plausible conspiracy theory I have ever read. It is a work of fiction, but it respects both the hard forensics and the timeline. It is Stephen Hunter’s novel, “The Third Bullet.” It covers the very narrow room that actually exists for a conspiracy to have happened.

Why do I get so annoyed by this sort of thing? We have serious work ahead of us, perhaps the most serious in a millennium or two, and we allow ourselves to get distracted by things that don’t hold up under serious examination. Tucker probably talked to a CIA agent who imagined himself to be living a life of high adventure by saying this. Just as with Stephen Hunter’s book, I am open to scenarios that respect known facts, but as soon as nonsense is spouted, I tune out. The only people who could take seriously the idea of Oswald being a CIA asset are people who have no knowledge of Oswald’s actual bio. It is time to Joan up, because we have very serious work ahead in the next year.

Homeless Liberals

I pity actual liberals these days because they have become the biggest homeless class in American history. Up until a couple of decades ago I had a lot of good liberal friends. We would have lively discussions and arguments, but would enjoy and even collaborate on social events together. Most liberals then actually believed in faith, family and freedom, but had significantly different ideas on how to accomplish them. Now a liberal has no place to go that he can really call home. He is not comfortable with conservative methods. He puts a premium on communal action rather than individual liberty. But the vicious, America-hating, child-grooming, authoritarian hard left has taken over the Democratic Party – and is quick to cancel anyone who does not toe the neo-Stalinist line. It was liberals who were the primary foot soldiers in the civil rights movement 60 years ago. Liberals were deeply inspired by Martin Luther King, Jr.’s call for a colorblind society where people were judged by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. Now the hard leftists who have hijacked the Democrats consider that “racist.”

As much contempt as I have for the Republican Party, which has spat on conservatives since the days of Reagan ended, the most forlorn refugees of the culture wars have to be honest liberals. I used to love their company. Now they are driven from the landscape, as vanished as the Cherokees from Georgia after the Trail of Tears.

I’ll get to part II later in the week. Know that God does have a plan – a plan for our reclamation rather than our destruction. Everything now happening will contribute to that plan. But as St. Joan of Arc said when asked why God didn’t just save France if He wanted it saved at her examination before taking the lead of the French armies, “It is ours to fight the battle and God’s to grant the victory.” So it is in our day, too.

My newest granddaughter, Maggie, and I have hit it off quite nicely. This little cherub thinks her Pops is one heck of a squirrel!

    1. In my mind, it’s not a good sign for Fr. Pavone to take his grievances to the secular news media. That would be like Charlie calling up Newsmax to grant them an interview so he could tell ’em like it really is if Archbishop Aquila had asked him to scrub the prophetic elements from the TNRS blog back in the day.

There are a few pieces I’m contemplating once again. Among them…
      Your Audience is God https://asignofhope379.com/2021/02/08/your-audience-is-god/
In the Lord’s Winnowing Fan: https://asignofhope379.com/2019/08/26/in-the-lords-winnowing-fan/
And, most especially, My Hierarchy of First Things: https://asignofhope379.com/2019/11/11/my-hierarchy-of-first-things/

      1. That element is very troubling, indeed. The whole thing makes my head want to explode because there are so many very troubling elements all around. (TY for your sober assessment to Linda, and us all.)

      2. Is bishop Strickland of Tyler Texas a good bishop? He tweeted this

The blasphemy is that this holy priest is canceled while an evil president promotes the denial of truth & the murder of the unborn at every turn, Vatican officials promote immorality & denial of the deposit of faith & priests promote gender confusion devastating lives…evil

        1. Bishop Strickland is an excellent Bishop, as you say, very brave and holy. However, he is still capable of missteps or errors… just like you and me or any human on earth. I share Bishop Strickland’s frustration and anger that: “…an evil president promotes the denial of truth & the murder of the unborn at every turn, Vatican officials promote immorality & denial of the deposit of faith & priests promote gender confusion devastating lives…evil” But I disagree with the Bishop when he conveys that it’s a blasphemy that Pavone was “canceled” as if there wasn’t due cause for the loss of his clerical state. I dunno, perhaps Bishop Strickland’s anger got the best of him in a moment. He’s human. He’s also very aware of the question asked of a transitional deacon at his priestly ordination when that man places his joined hands between those of the Bishop and the Bishop asks him: “Do you promise respect and obedience to me and my successors?” The man to be ordained replies: “I do.”

        2. I knew the issue of the errors of Pavone and maybe even Strickland would come up. Pavone did not practice obedience and I guess his office required that. However, I w0uld ask: Is Francis practicing obedience to the teachings of Jesus Christ and to the vows of his office?…..This is a tough situation. I believe that both Pavone and Strickland are extremely frustrated (and I think that this is not a word strong enough to describe what they are feeling) and this extreme frustration has been revealed in what they have said and done. Francis is clearly heretic. Oh, he does not issue any encyclicals to contradict church doctrine but what he does is clearly moving us in the direction opposite of church teachings. Maybe Pavone would have revealed this heresy more clearly if he submitted himself to ‘legal’ type process of the Church. As it is, I expect that Pavone will still carry on his mission but not as a priest.

          1. Tough times in the Church for sure, Judith. Too much awry in a big mess. Here’s Phil Lawler’s latest which provides his current assessment of what he’s been observing and writing about since 2011. I especially appreciate the ways he expresses care to be taken that we not conflate the treatment of Pavone with what many perceive to be even more serious problems in the Church: https://www.catholicculture.org/commentary/vaticans-action-against-frank-pavone-overdue-yet-unexplained/ Day by day, I become even more grateful that God has a Plan for these times.

        1. No worries, Linda. It’s not an easy thing to see someone like Pavone doing great good, yet also refusing to do what he promised on his ordination day… all the while other priests are harming the people of God with their own kind of disobedience in trying to change Christ’s very teachings. I, too, shake my head and wonder why they are not being reigned in and disciplined. In my heart, I have great hope, though, because this cannot go on forever. Maranatha! And He IS!!

      4. This article from the Pillar was very informative and shed some light on the main thing that has led to this laicization. I read it to my husband, a deacon, who said that a vow of obedience to your bishop is to be kept unless you are being asked to do something clearly sinful. Humility is paramount for any leader and submitting to your God-given authority will be the sign of that humility.

      5. Beckita, I watched Father Pavone on Laura Ingram (in a black leather jacket, same thing Fr Corapi wore after he was removed). In the interview he said something to the effect of, “this all started 21 years ago” when a Cardinal asked him to go to a parish. He said he had a calling and his followers got mad. I don’t know about the harsh penalty he was given, and I don’t know his heart, but I do know he didn’t do what the Cardinal asked. A diocesan Priest takes a vow of obedience to his Bishop. I was thinking more about Fr Pavone and obedience and what’s actually happening….
The Pharisee’s were the ones Jesus was the most harsh with. They were the ones who did follow the law.
Jesus did actually flout the law. He worked on the Sabbath.
One could debate whether healing someone was “working” but when he told the paralyzed man to pick up his mat – that was a clear violation of law Jesus was breaking.
And the explanation Jesus give in John 5:17 is that his father is always working, therefore he is always working. God’s love never stops working, it rises with the sun and sets in the moon. Jesus was not distinguishing himself from the Father. In other words, He is God. And in a sense he is telling us His love never rests.
We’re the ones who need rest.
In the Gospel of Matthew when he says foxes have dens and birds have nests but the son of man has no where to lay his head…. he is letting us know that we don’t love like he does. Save for the Blessed Virgin on whom he did lay his head, noone loves to full capacity. The measure of full love can be seen in humility and obedience. David did not kill Saul. For Saul was his King, he was a man after God’s own heart, willing to serve one who didn’t deserve it, unlike the serpent who wouldn’t serve the lowly humans. Many Bishops don’t deserve to be served, in the same way that Pilate didn’t deserve for Jesus to defer to him. But it was the will of the Father. When we serve those who don’t deserve it, true charity results, and though when we think we have a “calling from God”, if a Bishop blocks that calling, we must know that his authority was allowed from heaven above. We must also know that if God “stops” our work, he does not stop working, and He will work greater things than we ever could in our own human efforts. This is why obedience is so important. This is why Padre Pio got so mad at his sister when she wouldn’t remove her habit as she had been ordered to by her superior. Though we cannot and should not ever be forced to sin, we have to be careful at how it is defined by us, for we could end up condemning a man who healed a paralyzed man and told him to pick up his mat. A Bishop asking a Priest to take a new assignment is not sinful even if this work the Priest was doing was wonderful. A Priest should obey.
That all said I am praying for Fr Pavone and I do think the penalty was extreme. And from the viewpoint of wondering why the Vatican did that, it’s like their provoking schism. The timing of the decision makes it appear political which makes it scandalous or at the very least, imprudent.
Lord have mercy on hour church. We need you.

Now, Now, just believe there is no corruption at the Vatican, forget those Vatican bankers hanging dead under the City of Rome river bridges. That is a clear message communicated can you understand it? That is just a glimpse of the evil.
What is this blind obedience to men of the collar, a bishop is not Jesus the Christ but a fallen rebellious human being like the rest of us.
And example; one bishop says that – what ever it is – and another bishop says the opposite, what are you going to do? Waite a couple decades and they will change their minds, so…….
My thoughts no need to reply.

The danger inherent in such thinking as this, Robert, is that many a Catholic throughout the ages has used it to justify doing a lot of damage in the Faith to self and others. That said, I do get the frustration and anger in the state of the Church right now. Thus, there are a few pieces from the archives here which I’m contemplating once again. Among them…

          2. I will reply. The story of salvation history is actually one of God waiting. When the last prophet went, there was silence for 400 years until the messiah. They had to wait. Jesus waited to be public, he waited to raise Lazarus, he waited to die, and he waited to be raised. Within His waiting was prayer and reparation and doing the will of the father, which often entailed waiting. Our problem is we don’t know how to wait. The more we are like Christ, the more we’re like the Father, the more glory reigns down. I am not saying we should never act. I am saying we should listen very carefully for when and how to act. We don’t trust God enough and we manipulate a lot to make things go our way because we think it’s what God wants. I am just saying we better make sure it’s what God wants. There is a larger plan at work, I don’t pretend to know what it is, but I am trying my best to trust. This has all been allowed within God permissive will. Sometimes we won’t know something until we meet him face to face at our judgment. God is perfect mercy but also perfect justice. He knows what’s best. Jesus I trust in you. Pray for Fr Pavone and for the Bishops. They all need it and our prayer matter way more than our anger.
            God Bless and Merry Christmas.

          3. One other thing, when a man becomes a Priest, he is entering into a covenant. He makes a vow of obedience to the Bishop. If you have read scripture at all you know that broken covenant brings down curse. God will deal with those who broke it (on whichever side). The thing that strikes me is a call to parish life to me doesn’t mean stopping a pro-life calling. I wonder if that had been obeyed, what God would have done? It wasn’t an either or scenario to me. Lord knows our parishes need priests to lead us in this work. Whenever covenant is kept blessing comes.
I am not hear to judge all that. And I admire all that was done to save the slaughter of innocents. And Lord knows I am the biggest sinner. I have just come to realize that sometimes what I thought was Godly wasn’t always Godly. Lord have mercy on me a sinner. Lord have mercy on all of us.

  1. Thank-you, Charlie. We are in the throes of preparations here to celebrate our savior’s birthday. But we are also preparing for whatever is to come. We do not know what is coming, but we know that something is coming.
We pray for all who had the injections – we can not taunt, they are our children, their partners, their children and in one case their grandchild.😢 No, not taunting, praying and praying. 💔
Also praying daily for all here.
Have a very blessed Christmas, one and all✝️🙏🏽🎄⭐️

    1. So true, Katey. Three adult kids knew better, but the fourth one felt pressured to comply, to keep her job. Then her 2 kids, my wonderful grandkids, succumbed to all the liberals around them, as well as their colleges!
I keep wondering if the grandkids would be open to some wonderful detox ideas I have even used myself.

Charlie mentions research, and I’ve tried to read and watch all I can for at least the last 2 years. There are ways to learn if you search out the sites and people who cannot be out in the open without being cancelled! Look at McCullough who is brilliant and is threatened with losing his license.

God creates us all differently, and I was once told I was like a sponge, soaking up all I can, spiritually. My girls on the other hand, can’t handle all the info and I respect that. Praying for the Precious Blood of Christ for healing every day!

Charlie, that baby is gorgeous! I want to hug her!

        Prayers for your heart 💜

  4. We did not get the Covid vaccine. We also did not get the flu shot I am interested in your opinion of the flu shot. Morally wrong as a Catholic to get it? Thank you. Lynn

    Liked by 2 people

    1. Lynn, this is just my take on the flu shot: not morally wrong, but wrong to take. First off, I just read that in the years since they started giving the shots (since the 50s!), they have only been 15% efficacious! https://drtenpenny.substack.com/p/giving-up-the-belief-in-flu-shots

Second, did you know that the shot has traditionally had carcinogens in them? Mercury was one of the reasons I stopped taking it.

Third, big pharma is starting to make (going to start?) those shots with mRNA! Definitely don’t want that!

And, finally, if you feel it is morally wrong, then follow your conscience. Personally, I felt the mRNA shots were morally wrong, as well as just evil.

      Hope this helps.

  5. Charlie, as for Trump’s NFTs , I actually totally disagree. They were sold out within 24 hours ( which from the business standpoint is a huge success) and now are valued two or even threefold in resale. I myself wish I had bought 45 of them, not only because they already increased value by 100-200% as of today, but because a purchase of 45 cards would additionally result in … a dinner with the President. Let’s not forget he was and still is a successful businessman as well. All mainstream media screeched with laugh of contempt at Trump because of this. And no, these NFTs they are not overpriced. Just to put into perspective, NFTs with an image of a bored ape (10 000 of them are in circulation) are currently sold for an average $70 000 each, yes one digital image (file) of a cartoon ape is resold for about $70 000 as of today!… NFTs with an image of the great president (45 000 of them are in circulation) are as of this minute being sold for $281 each (so 200% increase compared with the purchase price). I think after Trump passes away these scorned NFTs might be sold for well over $10 000. And now for each resale Trump gets think 10% of the transaction (or some of those 10%). Fiasco in term of business? No. It is amazing how Trump at his old age embraced a new technology and is making money in a modern way, not like Hunter with all his precious art sold at the galleries. Hunter and Joe must be jealous because I doubt anybody would buy their NFTs.

    Liked by 2 people

      1. Maggie, I think the team that produced the NFTs for Trump checked the copyrights of certain outfits first if they were borrowed for some of the designs, so most likely if that’s the case they paid for the rights to use them. It’s like using some photos from different websites where you pay royalties for using them in certain projects. So if someone noticed some same graphics might have been used here, it completely means nothing unless there’s a lawsuit from the creator/s. Anyway, in business terms Trump’s NFTs sold out within hours and that is a complete business success for him. Also a huge current and even bigger future revenue for Trump and his family. Talking about tens of millions or even hundreds of millions $ revenue in the future out of basically nothing.

    1. Oh, I had little doubt they would sell out quickly. At this time in history with all we face, it deeply offended my sense of dignity and sobriety in a man who would be leader. Maybe it will bring many more to him, but it drove me away.

  6. V. Excess of Love Lonely Love December 20
And the interior voice continued: “My daughter, do not move away from Me, do not leave Me alone; my love wants your company. This is another excess of my love, which does not want to be alone. But do you know whose company it wants? That of the creature. See, in the womb of my Mama, all of the creatures are together with Me – conceived together with Me. I am with them, all love. I want to tell them how much I love them; I want to speak with them to tell them of my joys and sorrows – that I have come into their midst to make them happy and to console them; that I will remain in their midst as a little brother, giving my goods, my kingdom, to each one of them at the cost of my life. I want to give them my kisses and my caresses. I want to amuse myself with them, but – ah, how many sorrows they give Me! Some run away from Me, some play deaf and force Me into silence; some despise my goods and do not care about my kingdom, returning my kisses and caresses with indifference and obliviousness of Me, so they convert my amusement into bitter crying. Oh! How lonely I am, though in the midst of many. Oh! How loneliness weighs upon Me. I have no one to whom to say a word, with whom to pour Myself out, not even in love. I am always sad and taciturn, because if I speak, I am not listened to. Ah! My daughter, I beg you, I implore you, do not leave Me alone in so much loneliness; give Me the good of letting Me speak by listening to Me; lend your ear to my teachings. I am the master of masters. How many things do I want to teach you! If you listen to Me, you will stop my crying and I will amuse Myself with you. Don’t you want to amuse yourself with Me?”

And as I abandoned myself in Him, giving Him my compassion in His loneliness, the interior voice continued: “Enough, enough; move on to consider the sixth excess of my love.”

  7. I’m sitting in a cafe in the Hamm neighborhood of Hamburg which was leveled during the “Operation Gomorrah” during WW2. My uncle flew one of the B-17s in those bombing raids. My father in law was a turret gunner. None of the people actually responsible for these nights of hell pulled a single trigger. But 35k working class Germans died in the bombing and firestorm with temperatures of 1400* nearly the temp of a nuclear reactor in full meltdown and creating winds of 170mph. Children were literally blown out of their mothers arms and consumed in the fire. Coventry, Dresden, London all suffered similar horrors. I’ve always had a hard time accepting the Sodom and Gomorrah story from a loving God. What we need is Gods mercy and conversion of our hears. Our just punishment doesn’t seem to work. We rebuild. Forget and then go on in our same narcissistic way until it all blows up again— like Old Faithful. Maybe God will intervene in a more supernatural way this time with the 3 days of darkness and/or illumination of conscience. But then, the last time He used supernatural “shock and awe” there were still deniers. I try to listen more, pontificate less and demonstrate my beliefs in action rather than words. I’m pathetic at it. Still, I hold on to hope.

    1. How wonderful, madkat, that you’re traveling!!

No matter what God does, He will never rescind the gift of free will and we have a loooong history of humans becoming stiff-necked. Also, in His Perfect Wisdom and always acting from Pure Love, God has allowed us to be marked with the after effects of original sin. That, too, is a forever reality, leaving us susceptible to falling. God’s Holy Word says that His grace is sufficient for us to follow His Will, yet we’re human. We fall and we will continue to fall, and, gloriously, He provides for us in this dilemma as we can always make a return to Him and more fully live our true identity as His sons and daughters. These are great mysteries with bountiful dimensions to them. We could talk about these things for years around a campfire at Mt Meeker. 🙂

Safe travels, madkat, with beau coup blessings upon you wherever you go!

  8. Interesting….from Coffee & Covid Jeff Childer’s take on Trump’s cards on his Saturday substack post: “Trump just raised about five million bucks in one day. Since the buyers got something of “value,” the proceeds don’t count as “campaign donations,” and Trump isn’t limited by campaign finance rules. It’s brilliant, perfectly legal, and as far as I know, it’s never been done before”…. …….my eyes rolled when the cards were announced and thought Trump was really losing it…but sure didn’t see it in this way :O

    1. Briefly scanned it, William, but plan to read it more carefully later this morning. This passage jumped out to me: We got into this situation through passivity, and only a sustained effort at the local level will get us out. For decades, conservatives did nothing while the left marched through academia — and then kept right on marching, down from their ivory tower and into the public square, into the schools, the libraries, corporate boardrooms, local police and fire departments, even the churches. These people have radical views far outside the American mainstream but nevertheless control all our institutions. If you want them back, you’ll have to take them back, post by post.

The one Major Player not mentioned in this assessment is God… and His Plan. Perhaps, rather than taking back institutions, God will allow the rotted ones to become as so many ashes and we’ll be in the business of rebuilding or re-birthing new ones. Time will tell what He wants as we continue doing the little we can for now, ready to be on board for wherever God leads and whatever He thinks is best.

  10. Charlie: This is your best essay in a while, for me. I agree with all you said about Trump but I wonder if his missives are due to old age or some semi-collusion with the establishment right because he wants so badly to be elected again. I worry about that. I pray for him daily. Since he no longer has Pence, to whom shall he turn? It’s a little scary and politics is slick. Sigh. Betsy DeVos turned on him and I think she wants a Pence/DeVos Ticket in 2024. That’s Really scary. The May 18, 2022 ‘Vortex’ From ChurchMilitant tells that tale.

I used to make light fun of people who would go to YouTube and watch videos of cats playing a piano. Over the last few years I’ve endulged in SO much doom & disorder pr0n all I want to do now is go to YouTube and watch…wait for it… cats playing a piano. 🥴 I’m serious. My soul is fatigued.

    1. Thanks for sharing in candor, Christopher. Praying for a a spiritual infusion of Christ’s Peace into your body, mind and soul. It’s a wild and crazy world full of ugliness, chaos and division out there. Unplugging at times is a huuuuuge need that reaps primo benefits. If watching cats play pianos calms things down for you, that’s wonderful. I find that resting in a chair, breathing deeply to calm myself and then dwelling on the Lord and His Indwelling within is a beautiful way to defuse worries, anxiety, and becoming overwhelmed in any realm to be a sweet, sweet balm. I love beginning this time by pouring out my thoughts, asking questions that may surface and, finally, asking for HIS perspective and guidance for me in any area of concern. Then, I enter the Sacred Silence. I may not hear one word in that time of silence, but I k.n.o.w. that in my surrender of all things to him, I am at rest in body, mind, thoughts, emotions AND I know He is speaking to me beyond my capabilities to hear in a normal fashion. Sometimes, I can intuit or sense an answer coming directly from God, while lots and lots of times, His answer comes through an indirect source, but I know it’s Him tending to me. The more consistent I am in giving God space and time to speak, the closer and deeper our union grows with its commensurate peace, inner joy, abiding faith and unshakable trust. I still lose equilibrium at times. The enemy lobs fiery barbs into my consciousness; I just remind myself that I am the gatekeeper of which thoughts I let in to entertain in contemplation and which thoughts are clearly not of God so why waste time and hurt myself in ruminating on them? God bless you, Christopher, and God bless us all as we journey on as we must to get to the other side of where we now are.

  12. Charlie, I think in the times when Trump is being attacked even by FBI, including the time when he was a president, and being attacked with fabricated evidence on all accounts, in times when almost half of the nation seem to know that Big Guy Biden got his 10% for selling his country and is ok with that, in times when now we officially know that Biden was installed with the help of FBI per Twitter files (https://youtu.be/LrkZOTEjTB4), in times when mainstream media mocks Trump constantly, including now his NFTs which are overwhelmingly successful, shouldn’t we be glad Trump in all of and despite of this is having his apparently only one success now?
Trump is being targeted for destruction from every angle, and if he thrives financially it is likely Bidens will come to sniff and lick his shoes metaphorically or who knows perhaps literally. I would not join mainstream media in seeing it as something negative. I am happy for Trump, and who knows he might need that money to defend himself one day. How now Trump’s financial success can be discouraging or upsetting after all what happened and now when those in power are obsessed with putting him down?

  13. VI. Excess of Love Imprisoned Love December 21
    XTH EXCESS OF LOVE

“My daughter, come, pray my dear Mama to set aside a little space for you within her maternal womb, that you yourself may see the painful state in which I find Myself.” So, in my thoughts, it seemed that our Queen Mama made me a little room to make Jesus content, and placed me in it. But the darkness was such that I could not see Him; I could only hear His breathing, while He continued to say in my interior: “My daughter, look at another excess of my love. I am the eternal light; the sun is a shadow of my light. But do you see where my love led Me – in what a dark prison I am? There is not a glimmer of light; it is always night for Me – but a night without stars, without rest. I am always awake…what pain! The narrowness of this prison – without being able to make the slightest movement; the thick darkness…; even my breathing, as I breathe through the breathing of my Mama – oh, how labored it is! To this, add the darkness of the sins of creatures. Each sin was a night for Me, and combined together they formed an abyss of darkness, with no boundaries. What pain! Oh, excess of my love – making Me pass from an immensity of light and space into an abyss of thick darkness, so narrow as to lose the freedom to breathe; and all this, for love of creatures.”

As He was saying this, He moaned – moans almost suffocated because of the lack of space; and He cried. I was consumed with crying. I thanked Him, I compassionated Him; I wanted to make Him a little light with my love, as He told me to. But who can say all? Then, the same interior voice added: “Enough for now; move on to the seventh excess of my love.”

Pouring all the money and weapons into Ukraine is just prolonging this insanity (war). How much better to bring the two sides to the table? Oh, but this is too logical. Additionally, I suppose “we” are still hiding all the bioweapon labs we’ve built, and the money laundering, etc. Oh well, we are giving away money everywhere, money we don’t have, and it will all come crashing down eventually. God is in control! Come Holy Spirit!

  15. Grateful that a friend shared this piece in a different group. I realize many are trying to sort out and understand a complex situation when looking at Pavone in the greater context of the current state of how the prelates of the Church exert their authority. I appreciate this writer’s ways of addressing the complexities and his expanded thoughts concerning obedience:

    https://www.crisismagazine.com/opinion/the-sad-case-of-frank-pavone

Not everyone will see eye to eye on these things, so tucking it all into prayer with trust, knowing that with the vast majority of the things that are too big for us in these days the focus of next right step with the little we actually can do is calming, healing and mighty – even though it may seem minuscule – in the wisdom of the Little Way.

    1. A very sober and brutal read, but one that also speaks true about that knife’s edge-balance God calls all of us to walk. Faithful Catholics are well aware of the persecution St Pio humbly endured from his legitimate authorites while he was alive.

TY for posting this. God bless us, everyone.

      1. More thoughts…. the fruits of such (bitterly distateful to humans) obedience is the miraculous softening of hearts in warp-speed. Iow, the salvation of our loved ones.

As the editor-in-chief of the article cited above points out, the pertinent questions that require much pondering and God’s wisdom are:
        1. What is legitimate authority? -and-
        2. What are the extents of this legitimate authority?

Anne a Lay Apostle is fond of making us laugh when she says: “God, I wouldn’t have done it that way! What are You thinking of here?!” In response to any terrible situation that defies human understanding. The prayer response recommended as a counter to bitterness and moving away from God is: “God, what do you intend for me in this terrible situation?”

This is what Charlie wrote about in his fictional piece about St. Joseph’s response to surely what all agree is one of those seemingly terrible situations that defy human understanding.

+God please help all of us+

        1. Thanks for bringing forward Anne a lay apostle’s replies to situations wherein the Lord is doing things His way, Littlelight. I remember some pieces wherein Charlie has written about a few of the times he commented to the Lord that he (CJ) wouldn’t have done it the way the Lord did. 🙂 No wonder Charlie has, often, encouraged us to engage in contemplation.

    2. Thank you, Beckita, for sharing this. Ultimately, our authority is Christ and His Church. While we may not always agree with the leaders of the Church, our obedience will be honored by Christ. (Unless it is an out-right case of sin on the part of the Church leaders.)

Acknowledge God, take the next right step and be a sign of hope–a sure and certain formula. 🥰

  17. VII. Excess of Love Unrequited Love December 22
    SEVENTH EXCESS OF LOVE

The interior voice continued: “My daughter, do not leave Me alone in so much loneliness and in so much darkness. Do not leave the womb of my Mama, so you may see the seventh excess of my love. Listen to Me: in the womb of my Celestial Father I was fully happy; there was no good which I did not possess; joy, happiness – everything was at my disposal. The angels adored Me reverently, hanging upon my every wish. Ah, excess of my love! I could say that it made Me change my destiny; it restrained Me within this gloomy prison; it stripped Me of all my joys, happinesses and goods, to clothe Me with all the unhappinesses of creatures – and all this in order to make an exchange, to give them my destiny, my joys and my eternal happiness. But this would have been nothing had I not found in them highest ingratitude and obstinate perfidy. Oh, how my eternal love was surprised in the face of so much ingratitude, and how it cried over the stubbornness and perfidy of man. Ingratitude was the sharpest thorn that pierced my heart, from my conception up to the last moment of my life. Look at my little heart – it is wounded, and pours out blood. What pain! What torture I feel! My daughter, do not be ungrateful to Me. Ingratitude is the hardest pain for your Jesus – it is to close the door in my face, leaving Me numb with cold. But my love did not stop at so much ingratitude; it took the attitude of supplicating, imploring, moaning and begging love. This is the eighth excess of my love.”
