Ah, the week before an election like none I have ever seen before. The closest thing to this one may be the election of 1856, when the Whigs permanently consigned themselves to oblivion. I have played a command role (campaign manager or chief strategist) in over 100 campaigns. Sometimes the bottom drops out for you late. When that happens, you do your best to get to election day with your dignity intact to prepare the ground for a future effort. I have never seen the sort of flailing, frantic, vicious, counter-factual insanity the Dems are playing this time around. They have not set themselves up to lose an election, but to lose a few generations – and perhaps go the way of the Whigs.
Victory, though, could turn out to be the Republicans’ kryptonite. If they do not stand up and defend the folksies, holding the predators on the left to harsh account for their assault on basic freedom and decency, the rage that will be turned on the GOP will make the anger fueling this election seem like a mild rebuke. We could see both political parties tanking – and honest people building back from the ground up.
Traveling across the northern end of the country, I have been astonished at how few political signs I have seen this late in the game, until I got into New England. Even there, the signs carefully conceal what party each candidate belongs to. If Toto had been riding with me, I would have told him I don’t think we are in the same universe as we started out from. I have attributed the lack of signs in most places as a lack of Democratic enthusiasm and Republicans fearful of being firebombed by the “tolerant” left. What rational conservative would answer any poll anymore, not knowing whether it was a real polling outlet or the local Democratic Headquarters determining who to firebomb? The left has not learned that convincing someone to shut up is NOT the same thing as convincing them.
A dear, old friend of mine, Kathy Salvi, is the Republican nominee for US Senate in Illinois. Her husband, my old buddy Al Salvi, has been telling me all along she is going to win. I love my friends, but Illinois has become a nightmarish blue state hellhole. Yet just a few days ago, I got a tickling feeling that Kathy may very well win, specifically BECAUSE Illinois has turned into a blue state hellhole. The trickle of renewed red support from the summer has started gushing and I think may become a hundred-year flood by election day. This is because the Dems have treated every opening to make a case for themselves an opportunity to show people they really are THAT vicious, THAT perverted, THAT indifferent to ordinary peoples’ problems, and THAT divorced from reality. I don’t think this is going to be a red tsunami. This is going to be a bloodbath. Think the elevator scene from the movie, “The Shining.” Pray that Republicans do not deceive themselves that they have suddenly become THAT popular, but understand they have benefitted from the self-immolation of a once-great political party. Then get to work making this a self-governing Constitutional Republic of the people, by the people and for the people once more.
Of course I don’t expect that. (Lord, just once, couldn’t we do it the easy way?) The fact is we have ceased to be as Godly a people as we once were. Our leaders come from that ungodly pool. We will not become a Godly people again by choosing new secular leaders. We will get good leaders again when they come from a pool of genuinely Godly people. So the great challenge before us is to become a Godly people once more.
As I meet ordinary people along my way, I am heartened by their kindness, good humor, and commitment to doing whatever it takes to rebuild a healthy culture for their family and themselves. Yes, folks are shaken by all the weird dangers swirling around the world, but the old remember a joyful culture that is worth fighting for to bequeath to their children and the young aspire to a culture they have never seen but have heard tell of and seen in old movies and newsreels.
Though I have been on the edges of the city many times, I had not crossed the border into New York City since 1975. This year I spent several days there, visiting with Priests and colleagues. I had a wonderful dinner on the waterfront one evening with Mary Malerba, a trial lawyer, and her husband Russ Salerno, a retired patent attorney on the north end of Long Island. I know conservatives are not supposed to be friends with trial lawyers but, oddly, my biggest cohort of friends come from lawyers – with the biggest sub-cohort being trial lawyers. I like trial lawyers because they have a pugnacious edge that I like. I have never found a trial lawyer who is a shrinking violet…and some of the friends I have made from that cohort have come after we have argued vociferously for a time. In the end, a good scrapper always likes another good scrapper who doesn’t take the fencing personally. It’s better than finding a good dance partner. While in New York City, I also received the single biggest donation CORAC has ever gotten – $10,000. Whoo-ee! This month is covered and a decent chunk of next month! I have not quite concluded that I love New York yet, but I sure do love me some New Yorkers!
I went up to Little Compton, Rhode Island, which is quintessential New England. You can smell and feel the salt in the air. We had a wonderful gathering of folks who completely filled an American Legion Hall downtown – and downtown is called the Commons. Such cheery, optimistic people! I felt an inexplicable urge to go whaling. Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed. After breakfast with my hosts, Susan Kinnane and her sister, Tricia, at the Commons Restaurant (make sure to try the Johnnycakes), I headed on up to see Doug and Lambzie Pounds at their cabin in the wilds of New Hampshire.
Doug is a candidate for the statehouse this time – and he will win. Gotta love his slogan! He is one of a bunch of CORAC members running for local office this time around. I wish I had time to visit Rick Bookwalter, who is running for City Council in Manassas, Virginia. He has been a wonderful, longtime CORAC friend. Doug and Lambzie built a beautiful cabin in the New Hampshire woods – and I stayed in the guest cabin. There was a beautiful small lake just back of my door. While there, my talk was about an hour away at the spacious home of Mike and Indiana Chalsen. I love that spot. I spoke there the last time around. If you watch videos of my talks, that was the one with the heavy snowstorm playing out behind the glass behind me, in which a curious rabbit came hopping by to see what all the excitement was about. Indiana, a Venezuelan ex-pat, makes the best seafood casserole I have EVER tasted (I had three bowls). Something very good is going on in New Hampshire. Folks there are determined to live free, under God.
Now I am in Brunswick, Maine, just north of Portland. Maine is one of my favorite states, though I won’t get to see the rocky coast of Maine this time around – and I LOVE the rocky coast of Maine. My hostess, Tricia Smith, is intimately involved in her local Parish and has a long and varied career as a writer, motivational speaker, and counselor. She has consulted and worked with a lot of top-name companies over the years. Maine is an incredibly picturesque state with a lot of towns with roots in the 1700’s. I always loved New England because of its historic, flinty independence. Alas, it is overrun these days by people who are eager to do whatever they are told by the government. But my travels have shown me that a new generation of flinty independent types are determined to do what their forebears of several centuries ago did: forge a nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. One Priest I had dinner with told me, in astonished dismay, that, “we fought a revolution because the tax on tea was too high – and now we kill babies and mutilate children for fun and profit.” This shall not stand. And the flinty folks of New England have begun to rise in defense of faith, family and freedom.
David Daleiden just released a video with the longest-practicing abortion doctor in America, Forrest Smith, decrying California’s Proposition 1, which would vastly expand late-term abortions in California. Governor Gavin Newsome ought to think hard about this. When you are so radically pro-abortion that you have offended a major abortion doctor, you really ought to re-think your life.
Lefties thought that if they focused on abortion, they could get Americans to forget about gas prices, ruinous inflation and the threat of nuclear war. Instead, they have revealed just how radical they are – and the polls are showing it, much as the idiot media tries to hide it.
Thanks to everyone who has gotten our fall fundraiser off to a good start. We have an ambitious year ahead. I need to get a lot of the down-loadables we have available on the CORAC website printed out and in the hands of Regional Coordinators to give out to their people. I have a feeling a lot of the ugliness that has been looming is going to hit hard next year. You will have a solidly Republican Congress, but a furiously authoritarian executive and Injustice Dept. determined to outlaw dissent and opposition. I suspect that, even in the best-case scenario, it is going to get ugly and dangerous. We WILL have the means for people of good will to band together, work with each other, and rebuild a culture of life and light together whatever the pitiful giant that has become the federal government does.
We are going to hold a national online meeting a couple of weeks after the election. Because of some glitches with the old technology, we will test first with Regional Coordinators and then let you know when it will be. This one will be unlimited as to how many people can get in.
If communication goes out for any length of time, meet outside your local Church at 9 a.m. on Saturday mornings. Tell friends at Church now in case you can’t then. CORAC teams will be out looking for people to gather in and work with.

A Sign of Hope 
What a beautiful and hearting piece, Charlie. Love the photos accompanying your travelogue. The enemy cannot steal our joy and gratitude to God… unless we allow him to do so.

After all these years – from 1981 to the present – with Our Lady Queen of Peace encouraging and exhorting us, many have grown ho hum weary of her repetitive words. She, as Our Lady of Medjugorje, was uncharacteristically BLUNT this month when revealing the overall state of humanity:
“Dear children! The Most High permits me to be with you, and to be joy for you and the way in hope, because mankind has decided for death. That is why He sent me to keep instructing you that without God you do not have a future. Little children, be instruments of love for all those who have not come to know the God of love. Witness joyfully your faith and do not lose hope in a change of the human heart. I am with you and am blessing you with my motherly blessing. Thank you for having responded to my call. ”
And a mighty Amen to this: ”So the great challenge before us is to become a Godly people once more.”
Prayers unceasing for a Great Harvest, a full-hearted, full-throated return to the Lord!!

Right, Jewels? I know God’s grace is sufficient for anyone of us to make a return to the Lord. To the last moment, I’ll be praying for those who have chosen death so that they have a Damascus moment, yet, I know some will not choose God. Unfathomable to a believer, but true.

Yes, Jewels and Beckita. It’s hard to imagine what our governor is calling down upon himself and our state. They are going to use taxpayer money to pay for women to come to CA for abortions; promoting it in Proposition 1, to be enshrined in the state constitution. Please God, let there be some victories in this state that has gone downhill drastically from what it used to be!

It’s really great to hear this witness from what’s actually happening on the ground, as opposed to the “narrative”™ Your US is still a beacon of hope for those of us in beleaguered Europe, as so often. And how great to hear that Doug is running for local office. As ’tis said: all politics is local. Go, Doug! And may God give you strength.

Yep, that’s something I need to dwell on, as the almost, or seemingly so, hopeless situation over here all too easily leads to bitterness, snappiness, aggression… you name it (I’ve done it😒). We need to show the good example, it really does win hearts.
And, in this month, I couldn’t finish without mentioning our brothers and sisters gone before us who need our prayers and are so anxious to help us in return. They are our “secret army” – let’s enlist their mighty help. We won’t be let down! J.

Hi Littlelight, Lambzie and I got a call last April from, Shannon, a pro life activist and, Jim, a state rep who are both personal friends. They both called to ask if I would run for state rep. The first repsonse to myself was, “NO. I am not a politician.” I never even returned their calls. About 2 months later, Shannon called me again near the filing deadline. My mistake was I picked up the phone. She said that no one had signed up for the last state rep slot in my district and if no one signs up, a dem will walk right into the slot. Sigh…. Ok. I will talk with Lambzie. Lambzie had to be on-board with her support or I would not do it. She was on-board. So I told Shannon yes. Within hours of filing, I got another call from Jim. I said, “Oh. You must have talked with Shannon.” Jim said, “No. I did not actually. I am calling to see if you will run for state rep.” Jim used to actively come to our storm dinners. That was confirmation number 1. That weekend, Lambzie and I went to the cabin and on the way home Monday morning, we stopped for breakfast. The gentleman in the next booth was talking politics and sign placing. It was obvious he was running for something. I got up to go to the bathroom and when I came back, I poked my nose in and asked if he was running for something. Yup. It turns out he is a state rep in the district where the cabin is. He is rock conservative. That was confirmation number 2. We have since struck up a friendship. He gave me some good advice. I placed is sign at the cabin. The cabin is off the beaten path. So the best he will get is all the squirrels voting for him. If that was the dem world, they would count them as legitimate votes. Fast forward, I am glad I filed to run. It turns out, another republican who was very pro abortion signed up and that forced a primary. I made it solidly through the primary where as the pro-abort candidate lost big time. Since getting involved, I am very energized. From door knocking, I am hearing a very positive response from swing voters. If that is any indication, there will be a huge red wave come Tuesday. I have met other great prolife/pro family reps and candidates along the way. It has inspired me. I look forward to a solid win on Tuesday and serving in the NH state house.

One of the best door knocks I encountered was a gentleman who emphatically said he would not tell me who he would vote for. We talked a bit and then he said, “anyone would be crazy if they voted for a dem.” That is all I needed to hear.😎

Wow, so inspirational. I say, you and Lambzie are just glowing. One can easily see the fire of The Lord working through you. TY heartily.
In my district we have a young st. rep who is fully faith, family and freedom. He went door to door and spoke with us. We gladly gave him permission to put a sign in our yard, which he did.
The state senate seat sadly is up for grabs. The outgoing Senator was exhausted on the covid tyranny and he fought valiantly. The new guy, put a sign up on our lawn without talking to us or asking our permission. We left it for awhile, but I had a nagging feeling. I took the time to pray and think. The thought came to me that if someone is presumptous and disrespectful in little matters,—-such as assuming because we have a republican sign we’d also vote for him carte blanche—-he will be also this way when it counts more.
So I pulled the sign and ripped it up. A short while later, I got a mailing from him, brazenly and boldly proclaiming he was Pro Death/Abortion and Proud of it!! Turns out he is a retired oncologist/hematologist from an affluent small community here with deep roots. I’m certain he has the blessing of the RINO establishment 😦
Saddest part is my next door neighbor who has a corner property that gets tons of visibility, put up not one but 2 signs for this pro-abort. And the man is running primarily as a pro abort.
My neighbor has always had my deep respect. For years he’d plow us out and did so generously for the commuity. His family has deep, deep New England roots.
I guess I should have a conversation with him. But I’m not fooling myself that I can do anything other than witness.

Apparently the Rino running for state senate is labeled as “extreme” by the female dem opposition. She is endorsed by Planned Parenthood and warns that voting for the Rino will be a vote against abortion.
Remember the Rino sent out campaign ads with his wife and daughter saying he will defend the “right” to abortion. This was the main message on the Rino’s fact sheet.

Thank you Becks. You are too kind to me. The cat is out of the bag. Yes. I am running for office in NH. It is a big reason I have been away from commenting here. Charlies visit was a grace to us all in NH. Campaigning is a lot of grunt work along with that I still work 4 days a week at my regular job and have been building a cabin over the last year. The wind is currently blowing in our direction. So it is a good time to set the sails and take advantage of it. I am meeting some very wonderful folks along the way. More than anything, I ask for prayers to make Godly decisions if I make it to the state house. What is really cool is Charlie got to see a burning bush. So he has something in common with Moses now.

We recently had financial reverses, so I informed my CPC, that I sidewalk counsel for, that after this 40 Days for Life, I would have to stop the 120 mile trip each week. Sad, but true. NOPE! A fellow sidewalk prayer partner heard my story, (not from me,) and gave me gas money for one-half of the year! She said I needed to be there. WOW!
Will we have the year? Even six months? Who knows, but she is getting a LOT of prayers these days, and I feel confirmed that for whatever reason, I am supposed to be on that sidewalk.

Haha, Charlie and the burning bush, I love it.
New England is so ruggedly beautiful and unique and so many rock walls, everywhere. In the woods there are many old stone foundations, remains of fireplaces, etc. from early settlers. The stone walls there once lined fields and marked property lines. Actually, we have a stone wall as one of our property boundaries. Pretty cool.
As always, you encouraged us greatly. Yes, I do believe the flintiness of the old timers will steady us here. Can’t wait to see you back in New England.

In Nevada, there has been a flurry of campaign ads from the DemoRats for Senator, Governor, Congress, and a few lesser state positions. The ads cover only one, single topic, and that is the freedom to have abortions which the Republicans, by name are threatening. They lie about what the SCt held, and they lie about Republican positions. Given the high concern over inflation, and the threat to low wage earners by the flux of illegals, I like to think there will be a wipe out, too.

With all the real world problems people have in CA, I cannot believe that the state is solidly blue. One would think it could at least be a tossup state. It boggles my mind to think that unfettered theft from stores is accepted, urinating and defecating on sidewalks is OK, family trans presentations are ok (and all the other so-called family stuff) , the out of control spending is just fine, and the result is that the Pel. mafia has no reason to fear toppling. It might have something to do with how the election map is drawn, but it still seems to me that people should be totally fed up with this incredibly odd universe in which they are living. In addition, there is a real world drought that will affect so many… and soon the food supply, I imagine. Do the citizens really feel that the fools on top care about average working families?
