Fatima Unfolds Before Our Eyes

Last week, the Priest who keeps the archives of material I produce forwarded me this piece from Crisis Magazine with the note that it strongly supports my interpretation of the Third Secret of Fatima made over 21 years ago. Note that no apparitions or visitations were involved in that interpretation. Rather, when I first read the text of the actual secret on June 27, 2000, I recognized it as familiar territory from the totality of my life experiences and contemplation. The text of that secret as written by Fatima visionary Sr. Lucia, released by the Vatican at Pope St. John Paul’s order on June 26 of the same year, reads:

“I write in obedience to you, my God, who command me to do so through his Excellency the Bishop of Leiria and through your Most Holy Mother and mine.

“After the two parts which I have already explained, at the left of Our Lady and a little above, we saw an Angel with a flaming sword in his left hand; flashing, it gave out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire; but they died out in contact with the splendor that Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand: pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel cried out in a loud voice: ‘Penance, Penance, Penance!’. And we saw in an immense light that is God: ‘something similar to how people appear in a mirror when they pass in front of it’ a Bishop dressed in White ‘we had the impression that it was the Holy Father’. Other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious going up a steep mountain, at the top of which there was a big Cross of rough-hewn trunks as of a cork-tree with the bark; before reaching there the Holy Father passed through a big city half in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way; having reached the top of the mountain, on his knees at the foot of the big Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him, and in the same way there died one after another the other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious, and various lay people of different ranks and positions. Beneath the two arms of the Cross there were two Angels each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the Martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God.”

Some have argued that this is not the complete secret. Possible, I suppose, but I find it most unlikely. To believe that, I would have to believe that this sainted Pope was intentionally deceptive. I would have to further believe that then Cdl. Joseph Ratzinger (the future Pope Benedict XVI), the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and the then still-living Sr. Lucia were co-conspirators with him in the deception. Good interpretation is brutally hard as it is. I prefer to act with great restraint. That does not mean that there is never a conspiracy afoot, but I have to see real evidence or compelling logic to consider such a thing. To believe that both St. John Paul and the future Pope Benedict, who risked death when they were young to live fidelity to their faith and that Sr. Lucia, who gave her whole life in orthodox service to the Lord, suddenly became cheap, deceptive hucksters defies all logic. People who think everything is a conspiracy simply put the cart before the horse. They come up with some wacky narrative of their own devising and torture all facts and evidence that come to light to contradict it to support their own narrative. It is the modern form of Gnosticism, the seduction of claiming secret knowledge that is counter-factual and counter-logical. It’s a fool’s game that does not just complicate interpretation, but makes it impossible. If somebody begins a conversation by assuring you that they are nobody’s fool or that they know the score, prepare yourself for a lengthy fact-free and unhinged rant. It is a waste of time and a playground for the devil.

I had been a great admirer of St. John Paul II from early in his papacy, while I was still a Protestant. It seemed to me that the abuses that were commonplace among clerics in the ‘70s and ‘80s, all justified under the “spirit of Vatican II” were simply attacks on the faith, itself. They were the rotting wood afflicting the ship of faith – and were contrary to the Documents of Vatican II. The “spirit” of Vatican II is like the “penumbras” liberal judges always assign to the Constitution – a means of contradicting what the documents actually say in order to justify what those clerics and judges want. By the ‘90s Pope St. John Paul was a veritable fountain of orthodoxy, issuing perhaps the most magnificent series of Encyclicals in history, defining and securing the ancient orthodox interpretations of faith, salvation, our evangelical calling, marriage and the family. He was relentlessly pulling away all the rotted timber from the ship of faith and replacing it with new, seasoned lumber to prepare the ship for a great crisis. It was hard for opponents to credibly argue that Pope St. John Paul was violating the “spirit” of Vatican II since he had been one of the prime intellectual and theological architects of that council.

In September of 1976, during a tour of the United States, then Cardinal Karol Wojtyla, the future Pope St. John Paul II was reported to have said in Philadelphia that:

“We are now standing in the face of the greatest historical confrontation humanity has gone through. I do not think that wide circles of the American society or wide circles of the Christian community realize this fully. We are now facing the final confrontation between the Church and the anti-Church, of the Gospel versus the anti-Gospel. This confrontation lies within the plans of divine Providence; it is a trial which the whole Church, and the Polish Church in particular, must take up. It is a trial of not only our nation and the Church, but, in a sense, a test of 2,000 years of culture and Christian civilization with all of its consequences for human dignity, individual rights, human rights and the rights of nations.”

As I contemplated the fountain of orthodoxy pouring forth from Pope St. John Paul, particularly in the ‘90s, I did not think that would finish the battle between the Church and the anti-Church, the Gospel versus the anti-Gospel. Rather, I believed that St. John Paul was fortifying the ship of faith for the great battle ahead. This is part of the context in which I penned my interpretation of the Third Secret of Fatima and sent copies to my Priest Directors on June 28, 2000. Following is the verbatim text:

“The angel with the sword is the angel of God’s justice. The fire proceeding from the sword is what humanity has merited, especially in this horrible century. Our Lord is offended by many things, but nothing so much as the general indifference and contempt with which we have treated his mother. But it is her constant intercession and pleadings on our behalf which restrains God’s justice.

“The assassination attempt against John Paul II and its timing identify him as the pope of Fatima, but it is not the point of this secret. The ascent up the hill represents this pope’s particular mission. The city which lies half in ruins is Christianity, half of which no longer believes in God, but says Jesus was merely a good moral teacher. The corpses the pope meets and prays for on his way are those who, though they breathe, are spiritually dead. The cross at the top of the hill is the end of the pope’s mission on earth. It represents both his triumph and his death to this world. He kneels before it offering his work to Christ. It is after this triumph that the terror begins. It is the body of the pope’s work that the soldiers fire at. That they are in uniform shows that it is an organized effort. These are the legions who have given themselves over to Satan. But the pope has his legions as well. They are the priests and bishops and religious who joined themselves to him and followed him on his way. They will be true champions for Christ as the battle is joined. Prominent among them will be some of the dead souls – the corpses – reborn to spiritual life through the pope’s prayers. – Charlie Johnston, June 28, 2000”

Now the great confrontation between the Church and the anti-Church, of the Gospel versus the anti-Gospel, is fully joined. And the legions of the satan are firing at St. John Paul’s work right within the very pontifical institute erected in his memory. But as St. John Paul often said, even in the very first words of his pontificate, “Be not afraid!”

The corpses who are spiritually dead now seek to remake the Church in their own desolate image. They will not prevail.

Late in 2017 I was taken to see the aftermath of some of the catastrophic fires in Santa Rosa, California. I wrote about it as follows:

“On Friday, December 1, I was given a tour of some of the fire sites in Santa Rosa, California by friends of mine who knew the damage well. I have never seen anything like it. Usually, when looking at a house that has burned, you see a scorched shell. Here entire neighborhoods and, in one case a small village, were utterly incinerated. Everything was burned to ashes down to the foundation, with only internal brickwork left standing. These were entire neighborhoods. We first visited a community of multi-million-dollar homes, all gone, all incinerated. We visited an older middle-class neighborhood, utterly destroyed. With the strange capriciousness of large-scale fires, occasionally there was a home untouched in the midst of the hundreds destroyed. We visited what was once a K-Mart that was now ashes and block – adjacent to an untouched strip mall that shared a parking lot with it.

The day after Thanksgiving in 1974, my family’s home burned up. I remember marveling at seeing an old wall phone incinerated with melted metal remains laying in a scorched pool on the shelf below. Meanwhile, less than a foot away on the same shelf, a soft rubber toy was intact with barely a scorch mark showing. A room was entirely consumed – except for a painting on the wall that was untouched, though everything around it was black. Fire is mercurial. Such extensive, comprehensive and complete destruction is amazing, though. It must have been hyper-hot, because cars parked on former curbs were also incinerated. In many cases, the wheels had melted like candles.

What was most amazing was that, in the midst of this catastrophic and comprehensive destruction, the trees were hardly touched. A few had minor scorching, but that was the extent of the damage. Even in the middle of vast incineration zones, trees swayed with their leaves fluttering. That’s right: even the leaves on the trees were scarcely touched. I looked at a row of cars along a former curb, one with its back wheel melted to a silver puddle. Less than two feet away stood a bush with its leaves green and healthy. I keep a poker face when visiting any tragic site with others, but I was completely flummoxed by this. I have pondered long and hard on it, speaking to several friends about the peculiarities here. It seemed to me there was more than a fire behind these ashes, that it was in some way a sign. The most insightful comment came from my friend, David Daleiden, who commented that perhaps, in terms of faith, it suggests that what is not living will be consumed and what is alive will be spared, even in the midst of a conflagration. My son suggested that in disaster, we are taken down to the foundation — and then find how sound our foundation is. Those are worthy of contemplation.”

We are in the midst of a growing conflagration. But this tour was a sign for me. What is alive to God in faith, even in the midst of conflagration, will be spared and, even, thrive – down to the most tender leaf. What is dead to God, with all its showy presumption, will be utterly consumed in the flames of its own hubris and swept away.

In his lifetime, Pope St. John Paul the Great busied himself preparing the faith and the faithful for the great confrontation ahead. Now that the great confrontation has begun, I know that St. John Paul intercedes for us constantly from heaven. Be not afraid, for our reclamation is at hand. We live in an age of great heroes rising.

In my youth, I failed to understand and appreciate just how much of a gift St. JP II was to us, and it was only as I got older and he grew more feeble that I realized how I had squandered the opportunity to embrace his value to the Church and all humanity. This realization has only been more greatly emphasized by looking at how the Church and the world have fared in his absence. My, how we have fallen! Although I have been a Catholic all of my life, I realize that I was likely one of the “dead corpses” returned to life during his pontificate. Thank you St. John Paul the Great!

I remember so vividly when he visited NYC and celebrated Mass in Central Park. How blessed we are to have the gift of faith. Yes, John Paul II please intercede for your spiritual children.

    1. Mary, you reminded me of the time the holy JPII was in Los Angeles and some of us went up there for his outdoor Mass. As he left at the end, he went by my area in his “pope mobile” and you could so feel the power of the Holy Spirit! That’s the only Pope I ever saw in person, although I treasure rosaries blessed by Pius XII, another truly holy Pope. All you saints, pray for us!

        My mother and aunt (this is yrs ago) came for a visit and they were cutting off the ends of green beans.
        My mother’s pile were all neat in a row, but my aunt had just dropped hers into a mound. My mother commented on how neat her pile was… without saying a word my aunt reached over and
        messed up my mom’s pile and that was that.

Pope JPII could have become bitter losing his mother at a young age and his brother later on; but like Mother Angelica, their challenges helped them to have empathy and compassion for the masses. Wish they were still here, but so glad to have Charlie and Beckita to shine the flashlight as we tread gingerly through these trying times.

    An interesting article about a recent Eucharistic procession in NY. As usual, it had the good, the bad and the ugly:

    “Another friend was approached by a bicyclist. A student studying for his GRE, he wanted to know more about Catholicism—specifically why we took time out of our day to do such an odd thing. He said that sometimes he goes to a Catholic church in Queens because it’s quiet and beautiful. This young man ended up walking with the procession for 10 blocks. Before leaving, he asked if he could come to Mass. My friend said anytime. The doors of every Catholic church are open.

    1. Maggie: yes, and his father also, in his very early 20s I think, during the Nazi occupation of Poland. So he was, essentially, totally orphaned, in human terms, at an early age and in the most challenging circumstances – to put it mildly. Our Mother was of course always there for him – as She is for us all.

      His father had been an officer in the old Austro-Hungarian army. And then a little Austrian with a silly moustache and a dodgy hairstyle would come to regard all Poles as sub-humans – even those who had loyally served the former Emperor. Well, 33 years after the little corporal with the silly moustache etc. was reduced to burned flesh in a hastily-dug trench, the Pole became Pope (43 years ago yesterday).

      And the rest is history. A true turning point, I think.

      1. Thanks, Jaykay for filling in the blanks about his father. I do remember reading that during his childhood, Wojtyla and his dad would play soccer with a ball made of rags. In the neighborhood he joined in pickup soccer games that pitted Jewish boys against Catholic boys, and Wojtyla would volunteer to play with the Jewish boys to create even numbers.

When you spoke of the fires and the living trees, my thought was that they are not dried up; they have water, “living water” flowing through them, as we do. Thus they were saved, miraculous though it is.

    1. A lady in our Endow study group on the church’s social justice teaching remarked how much she loves pope Francis. I hoped the spontaneous recoil on my face didn’t show through. I miss St. JPII.

      1. The one thing that kept me from running out is that Archbishop Chaput had this study put together when he was in Denver. He had been my bishop when he was in Rapid City, South Dakota in the 90’s.

      2. Maybe this why 38% of Americans actually think Biden and crew are doing a good job! Somewhere in the Bible (OT) God says that if we do not choose Him, we will soon not be able to tell right from wrong. (Of course, I must admit, my son turns this on me when I refuse to get the vax!)

Catholicism wasn’t on my radar when JPII was Pope… but God was trying his hardest to get my attention at that time… oh the years I wasted and how He practically jumped up and down in front of my face waving His arms…i was Born again you see, I had it all locked up. 😉 but, I have to say now that I am a Catholic I have always been drawn to JPII and can now see what wisdom is in Vat2, and how it was a call for dry bones to live. I deeply appreciate psychological teaching in TOB, and see the offer to emotional and mental healing through it, and understand that it is how God brings the deep healing of persons and families. It’s also why I get infuriated when people disparage Vat2 as some satanic smog of the church. It seems to me a very pharasitical accusation.

    Thank you for all of this. I don’t pay much attention to prophecy or interpretation other than to acknowledge that it is there for us as a mercy. I’ll have to read over this a few times and think about it.

    1. Briana: I hope I’m not misunderstanding you, but Catholics weren’t all “dry bones” before 1962. The Church was vibrant. It always is, and always has been. There is much legitimate criticism, not of the Council itself but of how its intentions were manipulated.

  17. Thank you for sharing your interpretation of the Third Secret of Fatima, Charlie. I have always thought it was something that would actually happen as written. I sometimes forget when reading religious or spiritual content that it is not always literal. You have given me much to contemplate.

    I have always loved the story of Fatima ever since I was a little girl. They used to show the 1952 movie around the time we decorated our Christmas tree each year and I was so very fascinated by it. I never understood why it was such a big influence in my life until many years later.

    My fraternal grandmother was very devoted to Our Lady. It is mostly because of her beautiful, daily devotion to Mary and daily Mass that I was able to overcome my doubts of praying through Mary. She has been gone for 43 years and I can still remember getting up in the early hours of the morning and seeing her sitting in her rocking chair, praying her Rosary, and praying for all the people in her life who have died. She kept their prayer cards with her Rosary and went through and prayed for them every morning. Whenever I want to feel closer to her I go and sit in the pew she used to sit in at our church. She died a beautiful, peaceful death. She was found sitting in her rocking chair, with her Rosary in her lap. I pray that when it’s my time that I may die a peaceful death like her.

    Your advice to me on praying the Rosary also helped in overcoming my doubts, Charlie. I am very grateful for ASOH’s part and the people here in nurturing my prayer and spiritual life, and challenging me in this material one.

    2. Singingjuls: beautiful! I remember my own dear maternal grandmother singing to me, at the age of 3, the hymn ” Daily, daily sing to Mary”. Her rosary beads were never far from her hand. She was a talented painter (amateur) and was still able, well into her 60s before her sight began to decline, to use her paints to touch-up the beautiful statues she had on her bed-side table of the agony in the garden, and of Our Lady with St. Anne.

      The Rosary is a great help for the Holy Souls. We can, and should, offer it for them. And their special month is coming up pretty soon… ; )

        I agree about praying for the Holy Souls. Whenever I pray my Rosary, at the end of each decade I pray the Eternal Rest prayer and May their souls and all the souls…The first time I had ever heard the Rosary said that way was when my dad died in 2008. The men from the local Knights of Columbus came and led the Rosary at his wake and they said those prayers at the end of each decade. It was one of the most beautiful ways I had ever prayed the Rosary.

        I also have the prayer of St. Gertrude for the Holy Souls as a screen saver on my phone as an extra reminder to pray for them. 🙂

        1. Pretty much what I do also, SingingJuls. During November I like to dedicate the daily Rosary to various categories of souls e.g. family members, friends, those forgotten by all here on Earth, those in most need etc. Some people assign different decades of a single Rosary to the same. No matter which, it all seems good to me, anyway. And the St. Gertrude prayer is a must also.

          1. Remember, in November, to pray the Rosary using the Flame of Love Hail Mary. Jesus promised TEN sould released from Purgatory for each Flame of Love Hail Mary prayed in November. Let us empty out Purgatory! (Usual caveat – good intentions, state of grace, etc.)

    3. Me too SingingJ: The Irish (born in) Grandmother lived 5 blocks from me. Visited her often. She sat bedside with her little book of intentions, rosary in hand and a pile of prayer cards of deceased relatives. The German grandmama lived far away but I visited every summer for weeks. Her rosary was bedside. But most of all the image of her walking to daily Mass even in her eighties has never left me. (She’s the one who taught me to sew.) God bless them both. In many ways the memory of their prayer life has rescued me.

      1. I love going down memory lane like that Joanne. It sure was a simpler time. I also remember my Grandma walking the block to mass every day. She did that every day until she died at the age of 77. I remember her telling me on my birthday one year that she couldn’t give us money in our birthday cards anymore because she had to give it to the church. That made a big impression on me when I got older.

        1. Oh my gosh yes they are both really really good!!! Ha!!!

          Sort of funny mike and I were just talking about the movie “Faustina, Love & Mercy,” tonight because we went past the horrible restaurant that I had to bribe him with – Golden Coral – to go with our parish and see the movie at the theater!!! 😂😂😂 The food was HORRIBLE!!! Big buffet style greasy and no good for ya! But mike works really hard all during the week (foundry & machining) so he’s in no mood after work to go to see a movie!!! But I have to say, he really liked it very much! The dinner AND the movie!!! 🤗

  18. I believe that the prayers of Pope John Paul II led me to dig more deeply into my faith. Unbeknownst to me, he had announced the year of the rosary and then the year of the Eucharist. During the year of the Rosary was when I slowly began the daily habit of praying the rosary. A booklet by Pope John Paul II helped me the most because it was a scriptural praying of the rosary guide. Then during the year of the Eucharist our Parish began Eucharistic Adoration one evening a week. I have been a weekly adorer since its inception. It has truly brought me peace and spiritual growth.

    1. Kathryn: similarly for me. The scriptural Rosary has taught me so much – mainly how to meditate. Paul VI was dedicated to the Rosary also but I think it really took John Paul II to re-propose it. Rosarium Virginis Mariae of 16 October 2002, when he proposed the Mysteries of Light, which I love, was a real eye-opener for me. 19 years ago. Oy!

    On the plains of Babylon is the banner of Satan. There he asks us to look closely at what we see.

    (I have not gotten to the other banner, yet. I paused at the 3’rd meditation on satan’s banner as it bears close scrutiny).

    Yesterday our trek to Florida we went to mass at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah GA. Bishop Parks mentioned that all bishops were called to their home parish by Pope Francis to announce the Synod on Synodality to the people. He used some words that made me think of the Institution you write about. He used words “ future of the church”. He seemed orthodox and obedient to papal authority but am inner warning said they’re pushing the LGBTQ agenda and broken and unusual marriage situation.

    The mass was a taste of heaven! Everywhere I looked was glorious and exquisite art. From the paintings and the stained glass windows to the stations of the cross. The glorious choir using some Latin. The bishop’s homily was beautiful. I looked up his biography after I left and JPII was an influence on him😀🙏🏻😀

    I did look up faithful shepherds and he didn’t make the database yet since he’s a new bishop . His older brother, tallest prelate in the US, is a Bishop in Florida.

    2. Great choice in your travels to FL Little one! Bishop Stephen Parkes is a very good friend and be assured a holy priest. He was our founding pastor here in central FLorida, the. went on to lead a nearby large parish before being made a bishop of Savannah. We attended his origination a year ago September. Many of the websites don’t update or track the good work and renewal going on with many especially newer bishops

      Two years ago this week ..we joined then “Fr Stephen” along with the sisters, Servants of the Pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary …on pilgrimage to Poland. Amazing trip to immerse ourselves in all that JPII was, St Max, Blessed Jerzy …and Divine mercy shrine and St Faustina’s convent
      St. Pope John Paul 2 was a important part of Bishop Stephens formation and a father figure to the Pierced Heart sisters he brought to his parish in central FLorida …John Paul is their patron. Glad you got to visit St John the Baptist cathedral in Savannah … aka “Sistine Chapel of the South” lol.
      And yes his brother is the tallest bishop. (As a bishop Stephen puts it ..hes the “high priest” of the family) 😉

  33. You remind me, Charlie, of Pope John Paul II’s final homily at the 1993 Denver World Youth Day. As one of the myriad young pilgrims in that vast basin of grassland at Cherry Creek State Park attending the final mass of his trip, it was a life altering, indelible day. I will never forget JPII’s voice and can still hear it crying out with the very longing of the Holy Spirit himself for God’s children. JPII’s exhortation of the Gospel of Life and encouragement for the great battle ahead in that homily touched upon so many of the very points you recounted above. Your article made me revisit that homily and I think it’s a worthwhile read for all.

    1. Well, I read it – and I see no conflict whatsoever. The vision of the published third secret is extremely apocalyptic in its presentation. Pope St. John Paul spoke of that, and how it can frighten people at Fulda. In a more innocent time, when we weren’t experiencing tyranny in our own country, that secret is terrifying as it stands. It intimates at somewhere around half the world being wiped out. The big objection to those positing some secret add-on that Pope John Paul II, Sr. Lucia, and Pope Benedict XVI supposedly lied about is that the secret is not detailed and lurid enough to satisfy those with itching ears. Everything St. John Paul said at Fulda, in my estimation, lines up perfectly with the actual text of the secret: it just does not line up with what some want the secret to be. Look again at the comments and at the actual text of the secret – then tell me what, specifically, is out of whack in your estimation.

      1. The text you provided, which matches what I’ve read elsewhere, says nothing about the oceans rising and flooding whole areas of the earth. There is an implied threat of the angel’s flaming sword, thwarted by the Graces of our Lady. To be sure, JP II carefully phrased his comment in a way that was not a direct admission that the third secret referenced the flooding and destruction caused by it, but certainly leaves one with the impression that it does, indeed. It’s a very specific threat which, if it were to materialize, would cause tremendous direct damage to some nations and little or none to others. This, perhaps, explains the reference at Fulda about not encouraging the world powers of communism to make certain moves.

        I also find it interesting that he spoke of why his predecessors did not reveal the secret in the timeframe requested by our Lady. He also said nothing critical about their decisions to do so. From that, I would assume that he himself might find it reasonable to not reveal the secret, or perhaps not reveal it entirely. You wrote, “To believe that, I would have to believe that this sainted Pope was intentionally deceptive.” Perhaps he agreed with the reasoning of his predecessors and intentionally withheld part of the secret. If so, I’m sure it was done with an intention of prudence, not deception.

        1. I suppose that for most prophecy, we can’t really know the meanings until hindsight. The Old Testament prophecies are both imminent and future, fulfilled in the New Testament, but it wasn’t until Christ was crucified that the Apostles could see that.

          And perhaps this is the danger of reading too much into a prophecy and why St. John Paul II instead brought the focus to our preparation, which is ultimately what matters most.

Well, in any case, Outside, I have found that with some people, the desire to be fully apocalyptic is so strong that no restraint will slow them – and they will eagerly slander saints to satisfy the ticklings of their own fancy. The fact is, the actual text released did not refer to flooding and fire – and the Pope’s words at Fulda did not refer to flooding and fire. So the objection here is NOT that the future Pope’s words did not jive with the actual text of the secret, but they did not jive with what some advocates insist is the hidden part of the third secret.

          These are rabbit holes I am not interested in pursuing. There is plenty of very serious work to be done. If I am a fool because I exercise restraint rather than going into flashy and lurid speculation beyond what is given, so be it. At the dawn of creation, God told Adam and Eve simply. It was the devil who told them, “Ah, but that’s not the whole story,” whence came the fall of man.

I am not particularly invested in whether the released text is, in fact, the entire third secret or not. But your column brought to my mind that the Pope’s comments at Fulda, which do explicitly reference flooding, never seemed to line up with the released text, at least not for me.

            You seem to be saying that the matter of whether the released text is the full third secret is settled and there should be no questioning it. But when the Pope’s own words, at least as reported, raise doubts, and when he seems to give tacit approval to the decisions of his predecessors to hold off on releasing the secret, contrary to the instructions of the Seat of Wisdom, I think it opens the door to having a serious and sober conversation about whether he might have decided to take a partial step toward its full publication.

Well, according to the site you cited, St. John Paul said, “IF there is a message in which it is written that the oceans will flood whole areas of the earth, and that from one moment to the next millions of people will perish…” Contrast this with John 21:23, when some of the disciples had speculated that John would until the end of time. Jesus responded, “IF I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” Jesus words were contrary to the reality that followed, so there must be more to it, right? Or could it be that speculation since the revelation that there was a third secret at all included stories that focused on massive fires and floods? And so the Pope was focusing on the common, but errant, speculation on the subject.

              Meanwhile, your citation comes from a publication that is busy advocating that almost everything we know about Fatima is a lie and only they know the “real’ truth – and this publication played a role in saying that a false body double of Sr. Lucia was used to say everything that that particular publication did not want to believe to be true. So your citation comes from this very dicey publication in service to its preferred narrative; it just asserts that St. John Paul said this without providing any link to that supposed text – and meantime, if the Pope said it at all, it is perfectly credible that he was refuting the common lurid speculation of the time rather than the third secret.

              Evidence such as this is speculative and relies on vast leaps of shaky logic while ignoring any other credible explanation.

              So while I am agreeable to reconsidering my point of view in the face of credible or compelling evidence, this reaches neither hurdle and so I waste no serious time on it.

As in all prophecy, what we actually are given is very little of the full picture of what God is doing, and we look ‘through a glass darkly” (which is title of one of Charlie’s foundational pieces, first shared back at TNRS). A lesson which Charlie has taught, and taught very well, concerns, perhaps, the greatest challenge of all concerning prophecy: interpretation. Because of this, I think the most prominent point in these discussions is this passage from the Fulda text:
      “If there is a message in which it is said that the oceans will flood entire sections of the earth; that, from one moment to the other, millions of people will perish . . . there is no longer any point in really wanting to publish this secret message.

      Many want to know merely out of curiosity, or because of their taste for sensationalism, but they forget that “to know” implies for them a responsibility. It is dangerous to want to satisfy one’s curiosity only, if one is convinced that we can do nothing against a catastrophe that has been predicted….

      (At this point the Holy Father took hold of his Rosary and said:) Here is the remedy against all evil! Pray, pray and ask for nothing else. Put everything in the hands of the Mother of God!”

      And we know that integrating prayer, such as the Rosary, with the prayer of doing is the call that goes forth continually in this community, for God IS doing something new and He chooses to invite us to co-create with Him in what He is doing.

        This “gain” includes any “secret” knowledge or foreknowledge that leads us away from our “daily duty”.
        We were put here to learn how to love, not avoid our immanent death.
        None of us here get out alive so what profit is there in divining when or how it’s going to happen? We need to keep our lamp of faith lit and oiled in anticipation of this death and our seeking to know things that Jesus even claimed was not for him to reveal is WAY outside of our mandate to love and serve God in this life.
        The message of Fatima is a message of conversion not future happenings and they are “dependant” on our reaction to her message so there is no guarantee that these things are going to happen.

  36. Hi my friends, just jumping on to report amazing healing in just 24hrs. Our beloved Mick Blunt gave me 2 homeopathic remedies to try for severe nerve pain in my legs since my fall/fracture 10 weeks ago.
    I ordered the 2 items she suggested and started taking them yesterday morning and then again before bed. I woke up this morning with very little noticeable pain!
    Prior to the remedies, I couldn’t sleep bc of the pain. In fact, for the past two days, I could hardly move–the pain was so bad.
    My PT came this morning and couldn’t believe my improvement.

        1. Good memory, CDN! My mother got diagnosed with high blood pressure at the age of 96, a common problem with old people. To some degree they *need* the higher pressure to get enough blood to their brain. Instead of putting my Mom on the recommended Pharma drug, I found that Garlic and Olive Leaf Extract can reduce blood pressure. She now has returned to only a little above the 110 over 70 she used ot have all her life.

          For those who have developed HBP before being 96 years old, it is usually a confluence of factors that never bothered my mother. It’s certainly a good idea to try the OLE and the G and see if they work. However, the real answer is likely to be the diet and the quality of foods eaten.

          To really solve the problem, a person with HBP from metabolic syndrome should *also* cure the issue by shifting to a keto diet with high quality fats and oils (no polyunsaturated oils, which are highly inflammatory – inflammation causes weight gain and other problems), good protein (grass-fed meats, etc.) and low carbs, where the carbs are organic fruits, honey, and maybe maple syrup, not a lot of grains (particularly wheat) and bread.

          Anyone who does this will likely cure their HBP without using drugs or herbs, or salt restriction for that matter. Keep in mind that a person needs 5-6 grams of salt a day (at 150-180 pounds weight). You may get HBP if you restrict your salt intake well down from there, just as you might get HBP if you ate 12-15 grams of salt a day. Salt is a Goldilocks substance – you want to get it just right, not too low or too high. Older people who go to the bathroom several times a night probably need to eat more sodium to help retain fluids overnight. I actually supplement with half a teaspoon of Himalayan pink salt a day and have BP of 110/70. Less than that, and I crave salt and can’t retain fluid. Of course, I don’t eat processed foods that are super-high in sodium, which is why fixing the diet you eat is so critically important. I’m sure there are other reasons why people develop HBP as they age, but diet is a *big* influence.

                      It all became clear after a frank venting with God.

                      After about 1/2 hour of discussion, I asked God why He was always punishing me.

                      If it is because of my numerous, past grave sins, I deserve it, but Christ’s Prescious Blood us all I have to offer.

                      Here is the fun part.

                      God directed my attention to a spirit of oppression that was coloring my perceptions and expectations.

                      Immediately it became clear that it was my job to “slay that dragon”
                      big “Aha!” moment.

                      Michael Yon frequently writes that, “The only cult we cannot see is the one we are in”.

                      I suggest a corallary, “The only evil spirits of oppression we cannot see are those who have us under their ‘control'”

                      ‘Control’ is a loose word here, but in my case my worldview and expectations of life and God
                      were SHAPED by that cursed thing.

                      The huge thing is honest reconciliation, peace and trust in God.
                      There is no b.s. in Him abd I now, clearly see His methodology AND, i respect it abd thank Him for it.

                      I had ZERO idea of my (now past) attributes of my perceptions, actions and emotions.

                      I was like one of those abused dogs who were always expecting to be hit by their owner.
                      Yes, I am a brave dog, but that cowering behaviour was so ubiquitous, I had no idea it was there.

                      That demons name was “Punisher”; It is vanquished.

                      That “plumb tuckered out” was a humane and necessary method to get me to the root issue.

            2. P.S., Timothy: My grandmother used to make poulitices out of goose grease that she was able to buy at the pharmacy in the 1950s. And I’ve never used an onion poultice, but I have books that talk about them and how effective they are for lower respiratory infections. 🙂

              1. Ha. My dad would put a milk and bread poultice on a small wound overnight to draw the infection out. I used it on my kids and still do to this day. My dad grew up in the depression and I figure that is all they had to use back then.

                1. YES !! That bread and milk poultice works! Homemade bread is best but boughten can also works,. But does stink by morning opp(either boughten or homemade) in it’s plastic wrap. Who cares anyway… We always put it on sores, slivers, wounds from stepped on thorns etc, at night and wrap in a plastic bag to prevent leakage. No matter, it works. As an aside ; For infection or blood poisoning put HOT water in a bowl with 2 or 3 tbsp of salt, soak wound in that hot salted water ? till it is cool, about 10 min or so. Old home remedies that have always worked. I am 63 and have 7 children that have lived through all the hardknocks.

    Third floor newly-wed shakes crumbs from a tablecloth out the window…but accidentally drops it. Guys on the second floor text they saw a witches cape float past their window. Next text I saw was “quick get holy water, we have to pray thru the building.” Tony went down and retrieved the tablecloth and it has been washed and dried and is back on the table.

        I totally believe in the Illumination of Conscience, but I wonder if it will happen differently for different people. For some it may be as Beckita described, for others, a big event. 21 years ago, I went through a conversion experience. It started out as a process, then an actual event occurred and then my own Pentecost (but actual “activation” of my Confirmation gifts – that’s how I explain it personally) after going to Confession. I have no idea if that’s the case, but it makes me wonder.

  43. Ok so this really ticks me off!!! Mike & I are watching the Cleveland Browns and they keep showing this commercial about this big GMC Denali truck that drives all by itself!!! Well excuse me…I’m 59 and just RECENTLY started driving close to Cleveland to be able to help babysit our grandson once per week and it’s a big big deal for me!!! So wait!!! What??? I’m JUST learning to drive at my old age and the “Jetsons,” are soon to arrive?!?!😂😂😂

I loved that show as a kid. My favorite was the cleaning robot-always wanted one of those.

    I’m glad you made a connection between JPII’s speech in Philadelphia and 3rd Secret of Fatima. I believe JPII and Cardinal Ratzinger revealed lots about the 3rd Secret Fatima over the years with the latter saying the 3rd Secret of Fatima is “essentially the same as Our Lady of Akita’s message”.

    Many have studied the year 2000 release of the 3rd Secret and speculated it’s a selective interpretation of the 3rd Secret not the original text that doesn’t stand up the comparative analysis of other of Our Lady’s messages.

    Reguardless of the previous Popes reasons for going the route they did, they’ve provided enough information over the years like JPII’s speech Philadelphia which is what we ought to focus on which we are living now, not the other details.

    Lovebirds: Singing up a storm.
    My trail dog: Just looking at me, waiting on the next move.
    Me: “Yeah, we’re going to be working on that one for a while.”
    God: Silent. Or, chuckling. Not sure.
