Pre-Game Tailgate Party

By Charlie Johnston

There’s an old saying that the man who keeps the coolest head in the midst of crisis will ultimately prevail. The waggish modern corollary argues that the man who keeps the coolest head in the midst of crisis doesn’t really understand how big the problem is. I suspect that both aphorisms are applicable to our current situation.

Things have spun out of control in a way that is so volatile, that it probably can’t last for more than a few months. The absurdity coming from federal officials and the establishment media would beggar the most outlandish satires of the 1960s. When the daily news (or narrative) begins to make an episode of Monty Python’s Flying Circus look like a documentary, you know we are traveling in uncharted waters.

Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin asked if the U.S. Government had assassinated Ashli Babbitt. He went on to say the U.S. has no business criticizing him when it currently holds over 400 political prisoners in Washington, D.C. and is clearly gearing up to arrest more people for the crime of disagreeing with the left. Certainly, jailed participants from the Jan. 6 demonstration in Washington that got out of hand are being treated like the man in the iron mask, while Antifa and BLM rioters who actually destroyed things and killed people are getting a pass. U.S. Atty. Gen. Merrick Garland insists that “white supremacists” are the greatest threat to American security. For crying out loud! They’re not even a serious threat. I would be surprised if there were as many as a thousand bona fide white supremacists in the entire country. But it is typical of authoritarian regimes to re-define terms to justify jailing their political opponents. The current regime in Washington has redefined any dissent to be a manifestation of “white supremacism.” The old Soviet Union defined dissidents as either saboteurs or mentally ill to justify locking them up. Now we are under the occupation of a completely illegitimate authoritarian regime that is hell-bent on holding onto power by any and all means to transform this country into a third-world hellhole. The new National Strategy for Combatting Domestic Terrorism is a document that would make China proud: basically, if you are conservative or Christian you are likely an embryonic domestic terrorist. For a man of my age, it is startling and embarrassing to see that Russia has become freer and more tolerant of dissent than my country – and that the Russian leader boldly calls that out. Garland haplessly says that he is focused on threats, not ideology, but insists that disappointed QAnon supporters are very likely now to start fomenting violent attacks against the government. What hogwash!

It is very clear to me that federal officials are now trying desperately to come up with justifications to arrest their opponents. With all the revelations – that the whole Covid thing was likely released from the lab in Wujan, after Anthony Fauci helped finance the creation of it; the looming likely revelation that the election was entirely fraudulent and Trump did win; that like the Capitol Police on Jan. 6, courts and legislatures around the country stepped aside to invite the fraudsters in; that the FBI, Justice Dept., Homeland Security and intelligence agencies are no longer protecting the American people, but targeting them; that may be the last hope for the fraudsters to hold onto power – their “precious.”

I long ago concluded that the FBI, once the world’s premier law enforcement agency, had abdicated its mission and has, instead, replaced the Ku Klux Klan as the paramilitary arm of the Democratic Party. Even so, the revelation that the FBI may have participated in organizing the Jan. 6 incursion into the Capitol disturbed me. It was not that I didn’t believe the modern FBI is capable of such mendacity; rather, it was the sloppiness of the original Revolver story that got this narrative started. It connected a lot of dots by assuming the only possible explanation was a mendacious one, while frankly ignoring – and even pretending – that alternate possibilities did not exist. I don’t doubt that the FBI and Justice Dept. acted mendaciously. They are doing it in plain sight every day – and have been for over five years. The sloppiness of the story, though, gives the bad guys opportunity to argue against the veracity of the whole thing and what we are seeing every day. For crying out loud, at a time when the left sloppily makes it up as they go along, this is no time to imitate their sloppiness. People are struggling to know what to believe and who to trust. Whenever we are sloppy and undisciplined, we do NOT undermine the left, but give their lies oxygen for a little longer. We can only emerge as trustworthy if what we promote usually proves out. We will make mistakes; that is inevitable. But sloppy, unforced errors give a tactical toe-hold to those who lie routinely.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court ruled 7-2 in favor of Obamacare without looking at the Constitutionality of it, but simply on standing, saying that the 18 states which sued had none. This has become the favored method of the Court in dealing with controversial political issues – to refuse to examine the question, but simply rule that the entity which sued had no right to do so. It is a ‘go along to get along’ stance that the court thinks will shield it from controversy and protect its institutional standing. It is the same method the Court used to avoid weighing in at all on the last election. But now as evidence they would not look at reaches critical mass, the go along method will soon be seen as not a method to preserve the institution, but to break it – and the country in the process. This is something the American Catholic Bishops ought to keep in their minds as they debate whether to issue any standards of Eucharistic coherence. Those who oppose it do so on the basis of maintaining unity among the Bishops. Unity in refusing to take Christ and the original Apostles at their word is not worth a bucket of warm spit. What a unifying cry: we stand for nothing in particular! For what it’s worth, I don’t think the advocates of empty unity are going to prevail this time. More and more of their colleagues are becoming ‘woke’ to the danger to doctrinal incoherence. The high-water mark of the dissident Bishops may well have already reached its high-water mark.

Futurist Lew Rockwell believes the Biden administration has only a few months left to go because of the big false narratives it is based on that are now being proven to be false. If we were in anything resembling normal times, I would probably agree with him. It seems to me, though, that battle lines are being drawn dramatically, people are being forced to choose sides, and a mighty clash is eminent. I could not describe the details of the clash, only that I think that before the summer is out, we are going to be living in a dramatically different world than we are now. The old is passing away before our eyes, and that right quickly.

That is why I have come to regard our conference in South Dakota next week as a pregame tailgate party. Understanding that my weakest point has always been timing, things have shaped up in such a dramatic way that pure temporal analysis suggests the collision is near. I pray that enough states are committed to protecting the basic fundamental liberties, the unalienable rights, of their people, that we will have adequate safe havens from a descent into open bureaucratic dictatorship and from which to organize to give America a new birth of freedom. But the way I see it is not always the way it happens. What I know is that God will give us a way forward to our decisive return to Him. It will probably not be easy; it will likely be startling and unexpected in many ways – and the only reliable guide we have on our pilgrim journey back to a Godly world is to acknowledge Him, take the next right step, and be a sign of hope to each other. As we reach this point, it is good that we should get together and break bread with each other. There is still time to reserve a spot if you can come join us.

Daniel O’Connor posted a new article in which he more clearly defined how he regards the concept of “prophetic consensus.” It is much more prescribed than what I regarded it to be in a recent post. While I remain dubious about the concept, he clearly has some standards he applies before he will add something to the mix he considers. More importantly, perhaps, when I reached out to let him know I would include his definition in my next post, he noted that it was not necessary – that good faith disagreements don’t phase him. It is, once again, the attitude of someone who wants to get it right – and I appreciate it greatly. I deeply value the friends with whom I can have good faith and informed disagreements. It helps hone my own thinking well. And thus, as I value getting it right, too, I give you Daniel’s definition of how he arrives at prophetic consensus.

Our communications committee asked me to remind all of you who have short-wave radios to bring them with you to the conference. It will help you understand the demonstrations on the system more clearly.

  1. If you look to God first and just take the next step in front of you, He will flourish it, even if it is the wrong step. If you make the perfect plan, perfectly informed by the best, fully approved prophecies, you will fall into a pit. All of your plans will blow up in your face. Yet every step you take after acknowledging God – WITH EACH STEP – will flourish.

This is a subtlety that many, probably most, deceive themselves on. If you humbly ask God to help you be what He calls you to, He will bless your efforts. If you, instead, dedicate yourself to helping God rescue the world, you will founder. God does not need you to accomplish His will; you need Him to remain in His grace. If you keep that straight, He can use you as a profitable tool. If not, you are useless to Him, however scholarly, pious, or orthodox you think yourself to be. The sooner you get that, the closer we all are to rescue.

When you are sitting on a placid lake in a canoe with a paddle, you can use the paddle to steer, to choose where you want to go. When you are in that canoe in a fast-moving, frothy, rapid river, you do not choose where to go. In fact, if you try to steer, you capsize. Rather, the paddle can only be used to react to the current and the rapids…and every bit of skill you have must be used to keep from capsizing as the river takes you where it will. We are in the rapids. We are not in control. But if we are humble and skillful, we can dramatically reduce our odds of capsizing.

      1. Sharing words of wisdom:

I challenge us that when we take and hold true to our bold stances, like our Dear Lord teaches, let it be done sparingly and strategically while willing the good of the other and let it not become systemic out of lack of virtue. Lord, I pray we have the grace to live, love and serve you according to your Holy Will. ❤

        1. Such incredible and powerful words. And impossible to navigate or understand without God.

But yes He does incredible things with crooked lines, if we put Him first. I have seen this happen in my life, many times. I still cannot comprehend exactly what happened, or adequately explain how this is possible in various trying situations that looked impossible. The closest I can manage is that God can and does calm the raging seas of living in these perilous times. This is true! How wonderful. TYG.

      1. How’s it going in France, A Scot? I’ve followed your many faithful Catholiccountrymen praying in public to reclaim their churches from lockdown. Such beauty! Such faith! Even as we remain focused on the work in which we engage in this country via CORAC – and many other good works emerging from people of good will – the phase where we rise up and rebuild so we can assist others in this world remains in my prayers. Stay strong with us as we do with you.

      1. I had never heard of John O’Leary, For the Sake. Thanks for the introduction. After poking around and reading more, I can say what a story of pressing on through his life’s major storm! His father’s transformation was incredible as well. Looks like John’s already positioned and working as a man of Christian Unity. It’s too easy to focus on the ugliness as the old structures crumble and miss Aslan on the move in many ordinary people in many ways.

  3. I have a very dear to me young friend whose boyfriend was at the Jan 6th rally. These are young people (27). He was not involved in anything, he was just there as a lot of people from my county were.

The FBI raided their apartment 2 weeks ago in the wee hours, breaking into their house, she woke up to guns in her face, the FBI surrounded their bed guns drawn, the FBI ransacked the house and arrested the boyfriend. The FBI ruined their belongings.

This is atrocious that citizens who protest are now being arrested as terrorists.

    2. Charlie is unfortunately right that the politics led by the Left have now created the most serious threat ever to individual liberty and simple justice. Briana’s description of the FBI raid, on top of those hundreds now jailed, plus the Administrations forceful advocacy in DoD and in all education programs of Critical Race Theory, (forcing racial conflict, because it asserts that Whites are born with an evil need to dominate dark skin, and dark skin people are thus never given a fair chance to succeed) — must have moved society past a breaking point. The current political environment has set conditions for the all out destruction of what had been a basically peaceful society. Pres Obama had a wonderful opportunity to heal race relations, but chose instead to inflame them, and now it is core policy (identity politics) for the Democrat Party and its media, corporate, and bureaucratic allies.

Imagining, too, how heartened these rising voices would feel if they knew they are not alone and had CORAC standing with them and they with us. Pumping up prayers that Holy Spirit opens pathways to unity with all kinds of people all over this land. And that we don’t miss the opportunities before us to make this happen.

    3. Every cellphone has a unique identification number which is tracked by cell towers to locate the phone and thus locating its owner. Also, local and federal policing authorities use cell tower simulators which mimic a cell tower at events such as protests to locate people and possibly read text messages and listen to conversations(though illegal without a warrant). I assume the FIB used this method to find out who was at the Jan 6 gathering in DC and therefore anyone who was there is suspect and checked out for any flimsy excuse to be arrested. Probably what happened to Briana’s friend’s boyfriend.
There is also suspicion that our phones can transmit sound through the microphone even when the phones are off. I no longer take my phone with me into the confessional just in case.
I don’t think priests hearing confessions should have their phones with them either. It used to be that you could disable your phone by removing its battery, but in all newer smartphones the batteries can no longer be removed.I know this sounds like tin foil hat stuff but our Gov’t is not trustworthy. You may encounter some of this in SD next weekend. I’m sure at least one of your high profile speakers is being monitored because of who he is and what he has rightly done to try to expose the greatest evil of our age.

My hope and prayer is that CORAC is not made out to be the new “Branch Davidians” by the leftist authorities, which is a possibility. I realize that this comment may not be acceptable to be allowed, but hopefully it is food for thought for your leadership. May God bless you all.

      1. Well, Buey, I get this sort of advice three to five times a week from various people who are concerned because I (and we) do not follow the narrative – and many come up with even more sophisticated concerns than you have. If they are monitoring David, they have long since been monitoring me, because it is a rare week when we don’t talk at least once or twice – and frequently much more than that and at some length.

The larger issue is that while taking a few basic precautions (and I usually only do that to soothe friends), I don’t care. If there is no God, I lose, period. But there is. He is much more complex than I can ever begin to grasp, but I absolutely trust that no one on heaven or earth has any power over me save what He allows – and if He allows it it is for mine or another’s good – and I am willing to put myself radically in His hands. I do believe God wants us to act with normal prudence – but when we go significantly beyond that, we are trusting more to ourselves than to Him…and sometimes we take on human protection in a manner that forfeits the Divine protection we would otherwise have. I try to walk simply and candidly – and sometimes I am intentionally provocative…because I am convinced that my Boss is stronger than the world’s malevolent boss – and I am far more concerned about forfeiting the Divine Protection by trying to play it too clever than I am worried about worldly protection.

I do very much appreciate the genuine concern that motivates this type of counsel and deeply appreciate your prayers. But the bottom line is that I don’t care about what the deluded minions know about me, for they have no authority over me whatsoever that God does not allow.

        Liked by 7 people

        1. This is a wonderfully reassuring response, Charlie, that I need to remember. I like the balance of “normal prudence” and trusting in Divine protection, especially while discerning His will in any given situation.

Often these days, the 24/7 narrative pushers try to control us by deliberately manufacturing fear ~ including fear that is unwarranted ~ of perils ranging from COVID variants to climate change to who knows what else. I am not denying that sometimes scary things actually happen. But trusting God means . . . trusting God.

That’s why “Acknowledge God. Take the next right step. Be a sign of hope to those around you.” offers such heartening, simple, and powerful direction for our time.

God bless and keep you, friends ~

          1. Totally agree with you, Sister Bear, including your second paragraph. You can tell the “news” outlets follow the same script and now it’s fear mongering about the Covid variant. I am so grateful for a conservative local TV station that has wonderful interviews and stories that others don’t want to be seen. They had a doctor who said the new variant is NOT more deadly, even though it may be somewhat more transmissible.

Charlie, your comment in the piece you wrote about the bishops desiring “unity” at the expense of Truth, is right on. Can anyone believe that unity is more important than honoring Our Lord and the teachings of His Holy Church?! Apparently some bishops think so! 😦

  5. good article, Charlie. I stopped listening to the news when I realized that truth and justice are no where to be found. The devil has taken over the country, and many are blinded by satan. by the devil. It’s time for an illumination of conscience. We need to take a good look at our souls and make conversions so that Our Blessed Mother can bring us the era of peace she promised us at Fatima in 1917. God is in control. Jesus I trust in you.

  6. I’m not totally serious about this, but it’s important to be clear on definitions of “woke”.

“Wokism”, “Wokians”, the “woke” apply to the social justice warriors and anti-racist “white supremacists are everywhere” people, in short, to all those who are under the spell of this world, who are mind-controlled. Charlie, you probably should not say that the bishops who are finally standing up against the “woke” in their midst are the “woke” themselves. The ones standing up are awake, not “woke”.

I’m prepared to be corrected on this, but most everyone I know is using “woke” for the mind-controlled. For example, most of the “woke” have gotten vaccinated, while most of the awakened have not. Most of the “woke” are the true believers in leftist cant. Most if not all the people in the CORAC community are awakened, not “woke”.

If you call me “woke”, Charlie, I will be very insulted! 😀

      1. A perceptive comment, Beckita. A potential repeat of the events in Babylon 2,600 years ago. King Nebuchadnezzar’s statue was 90′ tall and 9′ wide;

“Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and its width six cubits.” Dan. 3:1

        He commanded everyone to bow down before his image at the pain of death, an almost mirror event matching John’s prophecy. Of course, should this choice be placed before us, we have already been shown our next right step;

“𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐡, 𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐜𝐡, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐛𝐞𝐝-𝐍𝐞𝐠𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠, “𝐎 𝐍𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐳𝐳𝐚𝐫, 𝐰𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐧𝐨 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫. 1. Thank you so much, Judith! This means so much to CORAC. Praying for any fear about covid to subside. Just be sure your vitamin D level is up and take zinc and vitamin C. That will keep your immune system humming to protect you from most any virus.

That phrase is an evergreen for the last year or two,

Replace ‘XYZ’ with any of Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter and you have the phrase for all seasons!

    God Bless.

Well the car is packed and we have BringFido (6lb GiGi) hotels ready for our arrival as we drive from Northern CA , to Sparks, NV, to Elko, NV, to Rock Springs, Wy, to Cheynne, Wy and then to Rapid City, SD. Hwy 80 all the way. Should be an easy 4hr drive per day. Looking forward to visiting with CORAC members. Also, a real treat my older brother and his wife will drive from KC, MO to the conference! Nice reunion and my brothers 74th Birthday! He shares the 24th with the Nativity of John the Baptist and Father Heilman! See you there!

  16. I am not a lawyer but I cannot understand how 18 states do not have “standing” in matters forced upon them by the federal government which may be trampling upon individual states rights. I am not going to read the legal arguments because I do believe, as Charlie has said, that the judges are simply and conveniently side stepping explosive and thorny issues. There is no moral courage to examine these very important issues on their merits…. I wish all a good weekend in the upcoming CORAC meeting. By the way, June 27 is the feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. It seems to portend an especially good meeting! I am hanging in here at home and dealing with medical issues. May God bless you all!

  17. Happy Father’s Day!

Prayed for all here today during my time with the Lord in Adoration. I also prayed for safe travels for all of you going to the CORAC Mtg. Y’all travel safe and have fun!

Question: I’ve been pondering authentic love. Honest, true love. My problem…feelings are the measuring stick 😦
In prayer while pondering what love is (I know God is love. I’m talking of human love out of love for God) I began to wonder, in the spiritual sense, is there a difference between emotions and feelings? Like are emotions something that comes from within (like a response to grace) while feelings are an effect from outside ourselves? Not sure if that makes sense, but thought I’d ask.

    Love to all,

    Becky-TN

    1. Feelings and emotions are part of it, but not exclusive.  A lot of the will is involved.  Us men tend to be less emotional (just the way we were designed and for good reason).  Love for us often means doing without emotions.  Not right or wrong, but different. Thanks for the prayers Becky!—- Sent from Doug’s Back Pack

      1. Thank you, Doug!

You’re right. Love often means doing without emotions. The problem is when constantly applying the measuring stick, one wonders if there was any love at all. I’m speaking for myself. If I’m not crying in Confession, did I really mean it. Spending time with loved ones, focusing on feelings that prove I’m present rather than just being present.

While pondering emotions versus feelings, I had this moment of clarity where I thought that if I rely on the “feelings measuring stick” then I’ll never understand real love because the measure will never be enough…because I’m defining the measure of the measuring stick. If that makes any sense at all. I realize it’s wrapped up in pride. Thank God for Confession.

Gonna keep at trying to understand it though.

        God Bless!

        1. Becky, I think you understand more than you realize.  Don’t beat yourself up too much over it.  Confess and keep moving forward trusting that God does what he says whether the feelings are strong or not.  Bask in the grace received because whether it is perfect or imperfect contrition, it is forgiveness none the less.  It is a mystery and one of the most beautiful gifts the church gives us.Here is a little more on feelings.  Generally, woman have much deeper feelings and emotions than men.  This ensures the kids get fed and taken care of.  Men are more compartmentalized.  We have to turn off our feelings so we can go out and kill Bambie to bring food home for mom to feed the kids.  There are many other examples, but I think this is a good summary.God bless!—- Sent from Doug’s Back Pack

    2. Becky:

A thought, to partially answer to your question.

An older, wiser and more holy man than I, in speaking to a group of us young Catholic, married men, said something about love that has stayed with me for years. While not dismissing the emotional, feeling, physical aspects of love, he said that at its absolute core love is a decision. It is the decision to put the well being of the other ahead of your own. To be willing to serve the other and to provide for their needs ahead of your own. To give, not 50/50 but 100%. To give and expect nothing in return. He said that at marriage, or the birth of a child, this is a decision you make for life, but every day you must get up and renew it. Each day you make the decision again.

He said this is how God loves us. God has decided to love us and be faithful to us forever. Jesus decided to become one of us, shared our trials and ultimately gave his life for us.

Over the years these words have helped me many times when the emotions, the psychological energy or the darkness on the situation do not seem to hold any love. As long as I trust God and I take that next right step, to renew my decision to love, love will be there. God has never failed me in this.

      1. Thank you, Beckita. The angel (that I wished to post) is a replica from the Kerespi Cemetery in Budapest. Although I have just seen some amazing art from that famous cemetery, I cannot find my particular angel. Budapest certainly has some majestic angel statues. Since a URL is required to post a picture, I cannot post this one.

  20. With respect to Mr. O’Connor’s recent clarification regarding “prophetic consensus”, it seems to me that he is looking for common themes among the messages reported by the various seers e.g. the Storm, Warning, Era of Peace, etc. His point seems to be that these are most important to pay attention to rather than the isolated messages not mirrored by many of the other seers. I agree. If God is sending particular messages to multiple individuals and those messages appear to rhyme, I think it’s best to focus on those.

    1. CD, your links are more and more amazing, exposing so much going on! I save links by putting them in emails to myself, and I just copied 3 links from one of yours, newstarget.com. It’s an awesome site with, as usual, stories you’ll see nowhere else! For example, google was one entity that funded bioweapons development (Wuhan, etc.) through Dascak.

I know it won’t be an easy time, but I look forward to the Illumination if it will bring massive conversions. Hope it won’t be too long to wait, for Light to drive away as much darkness as possible. We are told that not all will convert, and I realize that. But we have to have something to hope for – Light of the Divine Will take over the world, please Lord!
