Fractured Expectations

(This piece originally appeared on December 4, 2017 at The Next Right Step. It is moderately edited for content here, but I thought its themes are important in these times. I used to get frustrated that people were so certain that they knew what was going to happen that I feared many might be disheartened when they saw how many of all our expectations are going to fail. Now that everyone is shaken by what is happening and what it portends, I think this a useful meditation on how to maintain calm fidelity in the midst of frightening uncertainty. Right now, I am doing meeting after meeting, both with individuals and groups, working to build the infrastructure so we may both survive and thrive in tough times – and help others do the same. We are the heralds of the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart and must act it, to be a sign of hope to each other and to those who, though not among us yet, grow increasingly more shaken with the flood of new offenses each day. Make no mistake, some who even now seem timid and indecisive will become heroes in the days ahead, as God fills them with new heart, new hope, and new courage; while some we rely on will fade away. It is he who endures to the end who will be saved. (Matthew 24:13) So, let us endure and gather a great harvest of newly rejuvenated souls to present to Our Lady at her Triumph to present to Her Holy Son as witness that there is still faith on earth.-CJ)

Though I don’t moderate the comments here anymore, I do read through them every few days to see what themes are on people’s minds. Of late I see many wonder whether I still say that the Rescue will come before the end of the year. The Rescue is what I call the revelation of Our Lady to the whole world in which all will know that Jesus is God, Lord of all; that she is His Mother; that He honors her; and that He expects us all to do the same. In a word, yes, I do.

The only thing that has changed is my expectation of how the world will react to the Rescue. Up until early this year it was inconceivable to me that people could know with certainty the things the Rescue will reveal and yet refuse to repent and convert. Alas, I have seen this year that many people wallowing in deep disorder will be bitter enders, even though they know it leads to their own destruction. I believed that the Rescue would be the end of troubles. Now, I believe that it will begin the hottest phase of a struggle in which the outcome is certain and in which everyone knows which side they are on. It will be a struggle constantly marked by supernatural manifestations as God reveals Himself to both hearten the faithful and call the rebellious to repentance. In the end it will lead to the end of troubles, the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart, but for a time, it will be the very stormiest of times. Sadly, many in rebellion, once they know with certainty that God IS, will not repent, but will angrily accuse God of being a racist and sexist or whatever-phobe and refuse to serve Him or their neighbor.

I should have known. In the late 70’s and early 80’s, I thought the rise of ultrasound technology would herald the end of abortion, as science proved to even non-believers that the fetus is not just a ‘blob of tissue,’ but a human child. I was stunned when, in Reagan’s first term, Planned Parenthood moved away from the now-defunct ‘blob of tissue’ argument and adopted the ‘right to choose’ mantra – a mantra that had been used in this country before to justify slavery under the rhetoric of “popular sovereignty.” Had I thought more deeply, I would have remembered that, though the ancient Jews were rescued when they departed Egypt, it would be 40 years before they took possession of the land of milk and honey; that France was rescued when St. Joan broke the siege of Orleans on May 8, 1429, but the war did not fully end for another 24 years; that Winston Churchill later said that when America entered World War II in late 1941, he knew that Europe was rescued – but the war would not end for another four years.

I have long emphasized that as these times came, everything would be revealed, that God would pull away the mask from pretentious pieties. Heaven knows that masks are falling away like late-autumn leaves after the first snowstorm. This is simply prelude to forcing us to make our definitive choice. It pleases God that we all declare ourselves and where we stand – and He is determined that we do it without illusion; that we cannot later credibly claim we did not know what we were choosing. When we choose to double down on error or disorder, thinking it a clever strategic way to maintain the upper hand, we actually convict ourselves before God. Far too many will choose that route, but many won’t. So it is a profound act of mercy on God’s part to those who will accept it.

We are in December, midway through the Novena to the Immaculate Conception and just at the beginning of the Novena to Our Lady of Tepeyac (commonly called Guadalupe). Back on September 23, the great sign of Revelation 12 appeared in the sky, when it matched up with the tilma of St. Juan Diego, the “woman cloaked with the sun.” I regard it as the most consequential sign of my lifetime. I didn’t expect anything in particular to happen. God is usually quite subtle -and such things are a marker that we have entered a new level of spiritual consequence. I was in Lake Charles, Louisiana at the time sharing the best tenderloin roast of my life with my host and many friends. It was on my mind all day, though, and the subject of my constant prayers. The next day I had a terrible stab of fear. I wondered, what if this was the revelation of Our Lady, the sign of the Rescue? Only a small few would even notice. So I began praying intensely that Our Lady reveal herself to the world. I was quickly and sharply rebuked, reminded (that) I had already been told this definitively – and that my prayers were not an act of faith, but a failure of faith. So I stopped. Then about a week ago, driving from Bakersfield up to Fresno, I absent-mindedly started praying the same thing again. Again I was sharply rebuked and, again, dropped it…

Paradoxically, intimacy with the Lord does not bring serene confidence that you understand prophecy. It shows you how unimaginably big things are and terrifies you that you are missing key points. I touched on this gently in my piece, “Into the Whirlwind,” and more bluntly in “Through a Glass Darkly.” I have said before that I spent well over a decade when I was younger getting interpretation wrong almost every time, only understanding it in its aftermath. Even my harshest critics rarely accuse me of being dumb, so it bemused me that people have not generally considered the implications of having to work that hard and that long to begin to understand some of what is given. Generally, it is not the conclusions of those who think they have unraveled prophecy that I object to. It is that they approach the matter with utterly inadequate tools, like trying to change a tire with a licorice whip. Both in the Old Testament and the New, God speaks to us while seamlessly melding literal things and metaphorical things to get His point across to us. Just from the Gospels, besides melding parables and commandments, Jesus sometimes says literal things that sound metaphorical and metaphorical things that sound literal. When Jesus said, “Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up again,” it sounded literal but was metaphorical. Many mocked Him for this saying. Yet none of even the most faithful interpreted its actual meaning as being, “Kill me and in three days I will rise again, crushing even the power of death,” until AFTER the Crucifixion And the Resurrection. Who could have divined the significance of that until after the events showed it to be true? We are blind as moles. Sometimes God speaks mysteriously so that we understand in the aftermath what is unimaginable beforehand. On the other hand, when Jesus said, “You must eat My body and drink My blood to have life within you,” it sounded metaphorical but was literal. He was so insistent that it was literal that He let people go away from Him rather than compromise on some metaphorical interpretation. Even so, it was literal in a way we could not imagine. Some say that the Eucharist resembles bread and wine. More penetratingly, St. Augustine said that, before all ages, God made bread and wine to resemble the Eucharist, so that when it was instituted it would already be familiar and comfortable to us. This is where all the ‘Biblical Code’ and most other diviners of prophecy completely fail: they only divine in a literal sense already known to our limited perspective. It is primarily how I failed for so long – and still sometimes fail. The Bible is not mere history nor mere science; it is the living word of God, ever given to call us to salvation. So it is with authentic prophecy.

In “The Confessions,” St. Augustine said, “The Bible was composed in such a way that as beginners mature, its meaning grows with them.” In “Genesi ad Literrum” he said, “In matters that are obscure and far beyond our vision, even in such as we may find treated in Holy Scripture, different interpretations are sometimes possible without prejudice to the faith we have received. In such a case we should not rush in headlong and so firmly take our stand on one side that, if further progress in the search of truth justly undermines this position, we too fall with it. That would be to battle not for the teaching of Holy Scripture but for our own, wishing its teaching to conform to ours, whereas we ought to wish ours to conform to Sacred Scripture.”

Like a finely cut precious gem, Scripture has many facets, only a few of which even the best of us can see at a time. It is not that there are multiple contradictory truths to be found there, but that the single fullness of the truth found there is greater than our poor power to fully grasp. It is why after several thousand years we still can see refinements in doctrinal truth, but cannot abide contradictions of that truth. To truly commune with God is to approach Him with great humility, with fear and trembling at our own littleness. It requires courage, patience and humility…stuff that is not found in glib “Bible Codes,” where fools fancy they have divined the mind of God. It takes constant service, the resolve to go forward knowing that we will often err, but that our good Father will gently guide us if we keep our eyes and hearts turned to Him, boldly proclaiming him and taking responsibility for our own errors as soon as we recognize them.

In Luke 7:20, in the last weeks of his life, John the Baptist sends men to ask Jesus, “Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?” It is an amazing question that I have always taken great comfort from. Remember, John leapt in his mother’s womb at the very approach of the pregnant Mary. John recognized Jesus as Messiah at the very moment of baptism. Yet Jesus was not quite what he expected. When I read this astonishing question, I hear echoes of my own occasional plaintive lament: “Has my life had meaning or am I just a nut?” And what a wonderful answer Jesus sent back to John: “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good news preached to them. And blessed is he who takes no offense at me.” With God, it is not just that the best of us misunderstand Him (and Jesus said that John was the greatest of the prophets), but that He transcends our capacity to understand. So much of our faith journey is allowing God to increase our capacity to understand, while knowing that the greatest understanding ever achieved on earth is less than the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. Yet even within the context of our deep limitations, God calls us to go forth both boldly and humbly.

After my (first public) blunder, I had thought briefly of moving near family and getting a regular job, but quickly recalled that I had promised to stay on active duty, whether on the bench or really active…and the direction I had long ago received that all the public work must stem from the home base near Mt. Meeker. So I couldn’t move, even in the midst of my failure. Now I have come to think that death will be my retirement. Oh, I may become irrelevant, may be retired, put out to pasture, but until my death I will not cease to proclaim that God IS, He is good, He intends our good, not our destruction, and that He is not finished with us. It being December, I can’t help sweating a little, wondering if I am to play the fool for the second time in less than a year. But when I pray about it, I am rebuked for my lack of faith, so I will wait upon the Lord. Even so, it is not a grudging surrender to the work before me. As I have travelled the country I have heard from so many, including more than a few Priests, that my work has helped drive away feelings of despair and anger from them, focusing on trusting God, taking the next right step, and being a sign of hope – and that that is what will renew our culture and herald the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart. So I say that the Triumph begins this year, though we have some hard slogging ahead of us as some repent and convert and others respond in furious rage…I have fallen in love with my work, surely one of the weirdest, but greatest, jobs in history.

I close with one of the most consoling (experiences) I ever had. It was 12 years ago. I was weepily asking why me. I am a sinful man, weak and often stumbling – and it was one of the last times I questioned Our Lord’s judgment in sending me to help hearten His people during the Storm, the greatest crisis in the history of the world before the actual end. I envisioned Our Lord. We were standing outside in the back yard. In His hand was a stick and beside Him was a sand-colored puppy with a fat little belly. Our Lord threw the stick and the puppy launched itself after it. The puppy was comically clumsy, stumbling over his own legs several times and once bonking his head against a tree. But it eagerly pursued that stick, got it, and brought it back to the Master, tail wagging joyfully. The Lord took the stick from the puppy, looked at me with a sly grin, and said, “You’re a game little fella.”

Time to get our game on and all be game little fellas.

    We’re all creatures who err fer sure. Nevertheless, how blessed are we to be “game little fellas” one and all.

    It brings to mind for me, myself praying for the “wrong thing”…
    I’ve caught myself praying a few times in the last few years, asking God to “hurry up”.
    Hurry up with the rescue or whatever intervention He is going to do… well… It dawned on me today that I now think I unknowingly prayed for the buyden/harresy administration to be (by God’s permissive will) placed in the whitehouse!!!
    This has caused things to dramatically speed up!!!
    Just another reminder for me to “be careful what I pray for”

    As I look back on my life I am astounded how these very words came to be in my life.
    I grew up in an abusive alcoholic family. I couldn’t stand my dad so to think of God as a loving father-not a chance. I see how tenderly and patiently(50 years worth) He guided me to the BVM and through her to Jesus and from Jesus to God the Father. My heart is His to the best of my ability.

  4. Reminders are good, Charlie. I love the paragraph about the Rev. 12 sign in that year. Sections like that I copy into emails and send to myself to keep handy 🙂 May we all stay strong with the Armour of God, the angels, Mama and St. Joseph, the Precious Blood of Christ, and every thing else Heaven will give us!

  5. I’m hoping Charlie, I’m hoping… Lifting the veil of ignorance would be a great miracle…

    I often hope that most prophecies are metaphorical and not literal. I hope in some ways we’ve fullfiled most if not all prophecies for our time metaphorically… Our Lady of Alika portrayed the world as a lot more horrible place than this generation perceives. I hope we’ve already hit bottom, and need not fall any further.

    An interesting observation about Revelations 12 is it literally began with the Annunciation around 2000 years ago and included the lives of Jesus & Mary, but it had a long enduring echo or long lasting imprint on reality for the past 2000 years. A testament to the power & eternal nature of God that echoes throughout the ages, unlike people who’s actions fade over time into nothing.

      1. It’s a place in Japan, Al. Our Lady of Akita appeared at the convent – Institute of the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist – emerging from a statue which was a replica of the Lady of All Nations.

  6. Ha!!! Charlie I just told the puppy 🐶 story to one of my church buddies who saw you on the grace force podcast with Fr Heilman and doug!!! I was so proud to tell her I know “Charlie and in fact he was just at our house!” Hahahahaha but I couldn’t remember the punch line of the “game,” little puppy story and it just didn’t seem as wonderful as you just shared it! So thank you for re-sharing it!

    I do believe you saved my life over and over again, Charlie! I’ve told you and everyone else here that there was a time I definitely was going down the horrible road of despair!😫 I am ashamed of it now but ever since I heard your message of hope, it’s never happened again and I, like all of us, have been through some pretty dicey situations! Probably most of them we brought upon ourselves, but some…not so. I’m sure there’ll be a million more before we all take out last breath!

    But knowing you Charlie and everyone here, and the message of hope you spread I have to believe it’s in some ways, like that clumsy, tripsy game little puppy 🐶 who is helping others to be rescued from despair as well and to slowly climb from the pits of life to the sheer joy of striving to live in love with God and all our other fellows! By George it’s getting harder to love some fellows!!! Ha!!

    Acknowledge God, take the next right step and try to be a sign of hope to those whom God puts in our path!

    I am glad you keep a library of your articles. The subject matter is always relevant, even more so years later. An excellent time to repost this enlightening and humbling article. It is so true how we rush to interpret God’s words to what we think or want them to mean, verses what God wants us to understand. I have certainly done my share.

    Your personal story about the puppy is so reassuring. Our Lord knows what a stumbling, tumbling lot we all are. Lets hope our Lord calls CORAC a pack of ‘game little fellas’ and says it with a sly grin.

    1. Katey, you’re not the only one who’s had a challenge with being locked out. Yesterday’s comments revealed a number of people who’ve experienced what you have. Jen’s encouragement is to be patient and it’s not so much that you’re tech challenged. The techs who’ve been working on the CORAC site have also been challenged. 😊

    Actually, the Pharisees asked that a gard be placed at the tomb because of this prophecy they, being fluent in Scripture, knew these prophecies and even admitted Jesus was fulfilling many of them- they just doubled down on “their” interpretation of what should happen so they didn’t believe that what Jesus actually did was correct but a demonic trick to fool them.
    It WAS a demonic trick-but THEY were the ones following the trickster!

      Interesting! I sense it is wise to ponder in our daily battles, both real and contrived, is it the path of light or of darkness we are walking and being guided along? In the decisions we make and the steps that we take, which side is rejoicing in the outcome?

      Of course this has always been the case in our salvation history. It just seems more intense here and now. I used to conjure up the images of an angel and a devilish cartoon like character appearing on our shoulders to illustrate to my 7th grade CCD students, the discernment process, especially in a critical moment. Peer pressure at their age presented these scenarios all too frequently. In another lesson later in the year, I used that opportunity to teach them to trust that ‘gut’ feeling. The subtle sowing of good seeds of consciousness used to be common place and taught us lessons/morals in many institutions of learning and social genres and has largely faded away, like most things virtuous. What has taken its place is menacing and evil.

      As fate would have it, I had the joy and blessing of working with adult students entrusted to my care in a vocational academy. It was a thrill and a challenge to see hundreds of students, each quarter throughout a two year program from orientation to graduation with new cycles starting and ending quarterly. They were from all cultures and ages and ranged from high school dropouts, to military veterans, to retired chemical engineers from our neighboring Argonne Labs which is now working with the U.S. Space Force in Quantum Science. Mind blowing the vastness of it all.

      As their lone student services representative and registrar, I would lend an ear to them and fostered the baggage they brought along emotionally to help them thrive in learning so as to hand them their diploma in this skill set for a promising vocation in the health and wellbeing of others. Some of their stories were things of nightmares. Many disorders as a result, were ongoing. Since the education and training required a hands on personal and intimate touch, I dealt with numerous emotional releases. One gal I talked off a cliff had a hold on me while wanting to take the leap and I literally had staff on stand-by behind my office door. Another young man suffered with manic depression and he became the first student, I mentored through a scholarship study. He used the experience of his battle to chronicle the benefits of massage therapy for mental illnesses. Yet another who was sexually violated in incest went on to become a Chiropractor and I believe author a book. I could not be more proud of being a small influence in the lives of these incredible people. I had a bulletin board in the student lounge to pin up words of wisdom to inspired their cohorts and fellow classmates. There was one in particular I adopted to showcase on my desk. It read:

      I worked hand-in-hand with staff that ensured that they were prepared for and actually followed through to pass their national exam and then led them down the road in finding or creating a new career path. My once deer in the headlight students at that stage became my trusted and beloved colleagues.

      On a lighter note, these days, I keep it simple and caution my beloved, “you are what you eat” and “only you can start a forest fire.” Hat-tip to Smokey the Bear! In other words, be careful what you consume, mind, body, soul and spirit. Do not blame others for your anger and frustrations that you alone chose to ignite and set ablaze. ❤

      1. Great example of being that sign of hope in a hopeless world, jlynnbyrd.
        My brother Richard counciled vets coming home from the most recent war all the way back to WWll vets! Very similar experiences to what you describe and some pretty hellatious histories to workout with PTSD and the like. He used a different approach than you though as he was dealing with soldiers so he used a “drill seargent” type of style which they responded well to. He is a man’s man, and these men respected his type of authority which he used in true conscern for their wellbeing.
        The main success is he is a faithful Catholic using his vocation to help his fellow soldiers in a true desire for righteous justice and mercy knowing that he can do nothing on his own:
        “For man it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”
        “-(Mathew 19:26).

        2. In what has turned into a frenzied work day, I am just taking a late-afternoon break to eat my first meal on a bread and water fast day. I’ve been practicing this fast for so long now, I sometimes skip the bread and offer it up without a second thought. I am not complaining, the therapist in me will vouch to the health as well as the spiritual benefits of a good nutritional fast. I’ll share some further pondering placed on my heart before I arose this morning. Like a good story does, when we share the strengths from our experiences there are interesting lessons that can be discovered to help fortify us. I only suggest, yet encourage us all to lift each other up and write about the wisdom of our experiences during these trying times here and/or on the CORAC Community Forum if you feel so moved to. 😉 It is a nice distraction from the steady flow of harmful noise and nonsense.
          I recalled in this vocation, one of the not so appealing components was KP duty. Despite hanging a 30 font bold print note on the freezer door, scotch taped corner to corner all the way around that read – DISPOSE OF ANY FOOD/BEVERAGES BY THE END OF THE SCHOOL WEEK – emptying the remaining items became my chore. This was necessary in order to have open space for the next school week, to avoid rot, and to be able to efficiently wipe down spillage and keep the surfaces clean providing healthy and sterile cooling storage areas for perishables and ice packs used in our practical studies with each other and our paid client treatments in our student and professional clinic. Still every Monday morning before I opened the campus for business, I had the final decision over what items left over would be useful, and share them with others versus which items were not, which I disposed of. I had the added self-imposed task of emptying personal food containers and throwing the dishes, napkins, silverware, condiments in the sinks, drawers, and cabinets. It seemed too extreme to toss away a perfectly functioning Tupperware bowl, especially since students carried an additional burden of a student loan. I drew the line at washing the dishware. A minor repercussion for not following this school rule at least would be that their own break time would be dedicated to finding, washing and drying their goods. Keep and share what is good and eliminate the rest. Actions/lack thereof have consequences. How fitting for our times, I thought.
          Another responsibility that I loved at the campus was having a part of the classroom curriculum by visiting each of our new cohorts early on in their first semester Ethics class. Our time together would allow us to check back in after Orientation and facilitate nominations and elections for a student ambassador/representative. This student role served as a spokesperson for their classmates throughout the program to graduation. Monthly, I hosted a non-faculty, non-executive, just you all (Student Reps) and me pizza party, mostly open floor lively Q and A with what I affectionately referred to as our newbies on up through our upperclassmen. This was a golden opportunity to proctor a civil discussion whereas the students, given their experiences, strengths and challenges could support each other. I’d bring any loose ends to the administrators privately to be dealt with for the common good and report the outcome at our next scheduled gathering.
          A perk here for me personally was that my family and I were the recipients of any hot left overs and did not have to cook after a long day on those evenings. It was a gesture of gratitude to me for staying after hours to host, solely handle cleaning and redesigning the banquet meeting conference room back into a functioning class room following the event, and locking up the facility before heading home. If this event fell on a fast day, a side order of bread sticks were placed in the delivery menu cart too. I love win-wins. My co-workers and students were aware of my fast days. Some even went out of their way to gift me with rolls and bread on Wednesdays and Fridays. It became a good avenue to share my faith, which I did freely with their expressed interest, as a rule. Give and take, sharing and caring, learning and growing. ❤

      1. It’s been all over the news, HTTP, that India is experiencing a deadly second wave of covid19. It’s also reported that 245 million east Indian people have been fully vaccinated. This begs the question: ARE these deaths actually the result of a bio-weapon delivered from outside the country to its population OR IS it actually a matter of the novel “vaccine”, the mRNA gene therapy, causing bodies to self-destruct in the second wave?

        There are more than a few scientists who have posited that the “vaccine” works in a way that causes the body’s immune system to become incapable of functioning properly in order to fight a mutated version of the virus. If it is the second reason, imagine the numbers of “vaccinated” people who yet will be affected – wherever the novel “vaccine” has been pushed to vaccinate wide swaths of a country’s population in this second wave, for we know every virus mutates and some scientists have spoken to the danger of vaccinating in the midst of a pandemic.

        ALL of Psalm 27 comes to mind for consolation. Continuing to pray with Charlie and so many that this crisis will become a good wherein people turn to the Lord, seeking His mercy and repenting, ready to live a life rooted in Him and the Gospel values. Truly, “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?”

    1. Welcome to commenting Laura Lee. Charlie’s plate runneth over, so I’d be happy to give you some feedback right way. You are so wise to wonder and discern what you’re reading. Back when Charlie first was writing, we were at the blog, TNRS (The Next Right Step). On that blog there were more than 80 major posts from Charlie which touched on the incredible challenges inherent in interpreting prophecy. My first bit of vetting on the book was to search for background on the author and this led me to understand that he is simply a lay person, like you or I, who has been interested in prophecy for most of his life. In the end, he writes this book to give his own personal opinions and interpretations of the prophecies he includes in his book. Honestly, he has no expertise in mystical theology which would guide him in what he is attempting to accomplish. The biggest danger of simply accepting his opinions and discernment at face value is that people are tempted to despair and loss of faith when discovering the prophecies are false and/or they play out totally differently than an author describes in his/her personal discernment and opinion.

      As Charlie is reiterating in his talks as he travels the country, the time for giving prophecy – for him – has ended. We are living out the fulfillment of prophecy now. And, I add, for as much as we have been given in broad brush strokes of prophetic utterances, God’s Plan is so far above our own thinking and filled with details of which nobody, not a single person on earth, knows. Our focus then is on the beauty and comfort of the core message promoted here: Acknowledge God, take the next right step and be a sign of hope to those around you.

      Prophecy is MORE about choosing & walking the correct path. When the wrong path is chosen & walked, there’s something called consequences people have to pay. Human nature is very stubborn & prideful always transferring blame for bad choices to someone or something else instead of accepting responsibity for it. (Like in the garden of Eden.)

      At the end of the day, prophecy is just information about consequences, the prophecy is a reminder why people are suffering conquences, it’s never about fortune telling & destiny…

      1. Hi MaryT, I found Pastor Dana refreshing in many ways when he newly started broadcasting. I honestly have not watched him recently at any length due to time constraints.
        I will share my approach which is obviously uniquely tailored to my interests and sensibilities. In a deliberate stance not to open ourselves up to being overwhelmed or unwittingly biased, find one or two platforms/personalities (sort of like the wisdom shared here about spiritual devotions) and set those as an anchor or go to. Avoid or put on a back burner anyone one/thing that is extreme, fear mongering, center themselves as the main attraction, and such. Topics that pique interest, dabble in sparingly taking in what is read with a grain of salt. Ponder what speaks to the heart and leave the rest. Have a good faith community, like we do here to maintain a healthy balance and to feel secure in future seeking to learn and grow, just like you did!
        I would love to hear how others approach this. ❤
