CORAC Website is Up

Today, the CORAC website is up and live. Please bookmark it or put it in your favorites bar so you can check it regularly. Every time I put up a post here, it will also be filed on the CORAC website under the ASOH Blog at the top menu bar. 

Even if you have signed up before, I would ask that you sign up directly on the website. One of the problems of getting good volunteer spreadsheets has been that many people just assume I already know they are with us. That works just fine if you are talking about a family gathering and can look and see who might be missing from the list. When you are dealing with hundreds and thousands of people across the land, even if my brother had not signed up, I wouldn’t notice it. Problems that can be dealt with easily with small groups get trickier when you are dealing with magnitude.

The interactive map on the site, when you click your state, shows what region you are in and how to contact your Regional organization directly. We have just issued the dedicated emails to all the coordinators, so be patient over the next week or two as we integrate and get those emails active. We do have a nationwide team of regional coordinators and have been having ZOOM meetings every two weeks. I have to tell you, it is kind of cool to go through those meetings and know that, on the screen, we have every region in the country represented. It was a trick, too, to find a regular meeting time as we cover five different time zones. When we start, it is seven p.m. on the East Coast and 3 p.m. in Alaska. 

We have a section for upcoming events – which will highlight events in each region as they come up – and who to contact to participate in those in your area. 

Also, there is a shop for shirts, hats and coffee mugs and such with various logos and mascots on them. I am perfectly happy if you make your own squirrel apparel for use at events and such, but I was utterly charmed by the cool images on the stuff in the shop – and immediately saw two items I wanted for myself (which I, too, will pay for – it is all run through a third party fulfillment company) – and most of the TNRS team was charmed, too, and saw stuff they wanted. (One of our team, who LOVES Hello Kitty stuff, wanted something in that line – but it does make the squirrels nervous). 

I had some things I wanted to get posted here this week, but got caught up in a bunch of major projects, including organizational ones here. I will get to it in the coming week. The main thing I wanted was to get this new website live. Please bear with us the first couple of weeks, as there are usually glitches that pop up when you first get started.

Many people played a role in getting this up and running. But the two leads in getting the website going are our own MP, who is Deputy Director of CORAC (he prefers to be called our deputy coyote – because deputy director sounds too much like a politician and deputy dawg sounds too cartoonish) and Brent Clingerman, our IT guy who has a real gift for making what is very complicated and complex on the back end easily intuitive and user-friendly on the front end. We are very fortunate to have a multitude of talents stepping up to live solidarity with their neighbors and stand for faith, family and freedom – and an incredible amount of activity, organizing and planning is going on. Without the volunteers who have stepped up, we would not be able to launch this vital project for our world’s future.

  1. So very exciting! Well done, MP and Brett! I wandered over to the site a few days ago and signed up. It is so interesting to see – from the ground up – how this group of coordinators, with Charlie at the helm, are forging a dynamic organization. May the word of this effort and work spread far and wide, creating a groundswell of charity and renewal all over this land… and all over the world!

    For the life of me, though, I cannot figure out how to write a new post or reply to already posted comments in the “community” section of the site.

    1. I would try to tell you how (you have to register), but I will wait for someone more gifted than me on tech stuff (a pretty low bar) to do it becuase you will undoubtedly get more reliable and easier to follow instructions.

      1. Thanks, Charlie. I’ve been registered since the 4th. There’s probably a simple step I’m somehow missing, although, I did try to search with the words “how to post” and got a message that a serious error had occurred. I do realize it often takes some time to work out glitches or bugs when something new like this is set in motion. Just so happy that the site is up and running!

        1. Beckita; When you registered did you get a confirmation email with a link to make a custom password? I submitted my registration info and showed up as a ‘new member’ but got no email yet with no way to log in.
          Just wondering.

          2. Everyone, please make sure you check your spam and trash folders after registering. Depending on your browser and security settings, some systems refer almost everything that is an auto-reply or even that is not already known to one of these folders. I have looser settings on my system – but still sometimes find a reply I solicited in Spam or trash.

    2. Uh… how could you miss it? When you hover over “Community” in the header menu the “Login to Forum” is in the dropdown. Just enter the username/password from when you registered. (actually, I just added it because I wasn’t sure if Brett had finished configuring everything in the forum after he installed it). I’ll have a look at all the settings later tonight.

      1. Hi, MP. It seems to me that the Forum comments are visible to the general public; I can see the comments without logging in. Is it meant to be a private forum or a public one? This will make a difference in the kinds of things we post.

        1. Yes, I noticed it in the permission settings this earlly a.m. and fixed it. For folks logging in, it may be intermittently squirrelly this weekend because I’m going to get in there and do a bunch of customizations, as I haven’t had time yet to touch the forum module.

  2. I’ve been watching it develop for some time now. Great job to everybody that contributed! By the way, I love all of the stock images. They’re wholesome and appropriate, but a little bit corny. Perfect!

    2. One of the harsh realities of a start-up from ground zero is a complete lack of media assets, so corny stock shots make for nice filler while stuff gets built from scratch. If CJ just gave the OK for a little more rock-n-roll, we’ll run with it as usual…

It was funny…when I read Charlie’s post about the squirrels 🐿 being nervous about “hello kitty” I wondered what that meant and kept scratching my head on it! I’m such a lame 🧠 brain! Ha! First waking thought this am was I finally got the joke!!! Cats are squirrels 🐿 natural predators!!!😂😂😂

              1. Don’t feel bad, Linda; no matter what group I’m in, I’m always the last person to get a joke. And yes, there are plenty of pink hoodies to be had, although only one of the hoodies comes in pink. I also got a royal-blue T-shirt that has a huge Fierce Squirrel 379 on the back. I love that squirrel!

Btw the Phoenix saw a black squirrel (we have black squirrels in Norwalk/Milan OH) right b4 we met each other! I told her, yeah, isn’t that wierd we have black squirrels 🐿 because ev other city around us has the typical brown squirrel 🐿 but she said someone moved here from dc (dc, right Phoenix???) and missed their black squirrels so they imported some of them!!! Hahahahaha…just a funny sort of story

        Good humor is my default mode, but there’s always room for improvement. Remember in the early days of the Reagan WH when he walked into a WH briefing and laid down the law with the press corps? The man was efficient. ‘Course the usual suspects didn’t like it, but I think the bulk of the press was delighted that the raucous frenzy grew into something much more orderly and productive.

        Gosh I miss Reagan.

  14. Just FYI I googled CORAC. Turns out there are quite a few CORACs out there. Have any steps been considered to protect the domain name against trolls, predators and other subversive elements? When I use google to search corac dot com I get a sales pitch that says the domain corac dot com is for sale. Maybe we ought to buy it.

    BTW the site looks terrific. Well done.

    One other thing about googling CORAC — the videos on you tube show up. Really tremendously well done production values. One thing re the first Who We Are video — I thought the reference to the name “Charlie” was a little jarring without any context of Who Charlie Are. Charlie? Who is this Charlie guy? Comes off as just a little bit Jim Jonesy to those who don’t know who Charlie is or what he is all about.

    Overall the site and the videos do very will to emphasize the purpose of defending Family, Faith, Freedom.

    CORAC is not simply cultural, religious or political. It is an approach to defending traditional American values in an integrated grassroots kind of way that is pretty unprecedented if you ask me. A unique kind of squirrel not seen in the woods before.

  15. Possible technical glitches, one a CORAC website one, the second a CORAC e-mail related one:

    1) Can’t get into the CORAC website, am just getting an error message.

    2) It seems to me that the e-mail that I sent to my Region 6 CORAC Coordinator may have ended up in his spam folder … it’s not an emergency that I need to contact him, but I also don’t want him to think I’ve been ignoring his e-mails. So hopefully he’ll read my message here on this forum, or when the CORAC website comes back up, I can try posting a message there as well.

    1. Points well taken, especially the re-election of Trump and its inability to impact apostasy as well as the sentiment in the closing line of the passage you share here, Sorrowful. Sadly, I am as concerned about those who are in the farthest fringes of the right in the Catholic Church as I am about those in the left who cherry pick Christ’s teachings as a standard for spiritual life. I observe an elitism as radical as ever with a clinging to the letter of the law devoid of love which brings to mind the Letter in Revelation to the Church in Ephesus:Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. (Rev 2:4) Too, there is a looking back at the last fifty years and beyond to try to come up with people to blame. I think it’s a twisted way to try to make peace with where we are now. There is simply so much more we don’t know than what we do know about the bad actors who operated under the radar for years. Further how does knowing help us in that which we are called to engage as we co-create a New Beginning with God? Surely the rot in the Church which we see today was already growing pre-Vatican II, yet, I continue to bump into articles which present facts and then interject all sorts of assumptions and inferences which are dangerous because such speculation is, often, soaked with personal opinion and/or the opinion of others which may or may not be true. There’s plenty reason to continue praying.

      1. I’m with you Beckita on that God gives us what we “want” (ask for).
        Abortion will never leave this country until it leaves the hearts of men. These ideals have lead us inevitably to slavery of self, which is slavery to a fallen human nature and down the rabbit hole of self destruction.
        No pleasure or desire is ever enough leaving us hollow and empty as it is only through God that “all good things come” and from whom “we live and have our being”.

        1. Yes, Phillip, and it starts with contraception… which leads to a spiritually contraceptive mentality whether we’re single or married. In such a mindset, we know better than God. We’ll actually “help” Him find the best solutions for our lives. I thought of tTRUST as I was lector, reading the first reading of this day. Ah. If we only could learn true trust, this is how The Lord cares for us.

  17. Continued prayers for the success of CORAC while on my journey to Marian shrines.

    I met a couple squirrels and two cousins along the way, and even arrived at 2 cities on the very days riots started – Louisville and Milwaukee (Wauwatosa). And I came to Wisconsin just as they are having a coronavirus resurgence – though I still pretty much ignored all signs to wear a mask. (The variety of responses to this mild disease from state to state and city to city is comical….and also sad). After visiting the shrine in Champion and the one in LaCrosse on a gorgeous fall day, I am now in Rochester, MN, eagerly “rounding third” and heading for home. As of today it’s been 3 weeks on the road. Still have a good stretch left and stuff to see and do, including finalizing details on a traveling job in SD on Tuesday, then continue on to Rapid and then MT.

    THEN…I move back to SD. No rest for the weary.

    Prayers for every single soul here.

        1. I had many tears in my eyes, MP, because my father prayed in that gorgeous cathedral many times in the 50s and 60s. I “coincidentally” arrived 15 min before mass. As a guidance counselor, he even encouraged my cousin Nadine to attend Notre Dame for med school (one I visited). Hands down, the most breathtaking church I’ve seen on this trip …. and that’s saying a lot.

        2. I Proposed to my wife at the Basilica 23 years ago. I silently prayed to Our Lady to bless our marriage (assuming she was going to say “yes”) and keep any children we may have in the palm of her hand. I then turned and asked my wife to marry me. (She said yes, BTW). Great place.

          I have an unrelated question. The website is great. You have all done a great job with it. My question is what is the significance of the number 379? (The Fighting 379, etc)

          2. It is not a HUGE significance. Ancient Israel used certain numbers for symbolic reasons (not to be confused with cabalistic stuff). Three represents fullness, seven represents perfection, and nine is three threes. Six, by the way, represents imperfection or impurity. Thus, the ancient Jewish audiences recognized the number of the beast “666” as representing the fullness of imperfection. It was later generations that kept trying, with cabalism, to find a specific person to match this Jewish symbolism. The Roman Emperor Nero was the first candidate that Christians widely speculated was the beast. Every generation since then has had their favored nominee.

            1. Generations hence when visitors pass through the museum at the Mt. Meeker Shrine, I think it only fitting that the Fighting 379 memorabilia and the significance of “379” remains a complete mystery.

                1. I’m sure Mick and Jayman would appreciate it, since she’s already forgotten its origins lost in the mists of time. You know full well (even if you share it), it will still get lost somewhere down the line… inspiring some to spin pious legends about it, others to weave silly conspiracy theories, and the usual responses to some mystery. So go ahead, but I’m NOT explaining the initials on the strap of our mascot’s binocular case, nor the hidden symbols in the wrinkled leather of his jacket.

              1. Nicely done, Luke. The thought process behind this comment is worthy of an ancient Rabbi. AS subtheme one might note in 7 representing perfection and 6 representing impurity is that evil is not the diametric opposite of perfect good, but is so close it imitates it and can even be mistaken for it. The idea of evil appearing as good but empty of the Trinity is an insightful thought. In fact, I think it is at the heart of what has gone wrong in modern culture – and what has gone radically wrong since the French Revolution. These revolutionaries deceive themselves that they are doing good – but insist it can only be done without reference to God. Their angry and agonized despair comes from the visceral knowledge that something, something vital, is missing – and their tragedy is that they absolutely refuse to accept the thing that would fill the hole at the heart of their rage and bring peace. I really like this comment.

        1. It is. It was a perfect fall day. I talked with a couple riding their Harleys: little wind, gorgeous foliage, blue sky, sunny and 65. The colors were amazing…and the shrine was busy with tourists and faithful.

    2. I’m sorry Patrick but for the thousands who have died or endured serious illness and hospitalization this is certainly not a mild disease.

      1. That’s ok Luke. That’s just my take. I feel it’s more in the category of influenza – which also can kill but the vast majority survive. There is unjustified fear and gross over reaction to it right now, and there are far more deadly diseases out there. Just my opinion.

        1. We are not far apart Patrick. No doubt there is gross overreaction to COVID19 and I am categorically opposed to lockdowns and the obsession with face masks. Some of my family members have experienced SARS Corona2 and I would not call it mild though it may be for many.

          1. Agreed, Luke. It’s pretty rough for some folk. It’s impossible to describe it in general terms, though I’ve been trying hard to. For some it’s mild, for some it’s asymptomatic and passes by completely unnoticed, for some it’s a very annoying viral infection that lingers for months, for some it’s a battle for survival, and for a small handful it’s an unbeatable death sentence. It’s somewhere between nothing and terminal. Shall we settle on “moderate”?🙂 Kidding. It is what it is to those infected. I’m not entirely sure I haven’t already been exposed while in clinic. And on this trip I’ve worn a mask 1% of the time, contacted a couple thousand people in 11 states, been in and out of dozens of rest stops, hotels, and crowded bars and restaurants, hardly have washed my hands, and yet not even got the sniffles.

            I think that is the rub LM.
            Covid is so different depending on which morph you catch, your age, heath, exposure rate, stress level, etc. But truth be told, this is true for a whole variety of things in life that can kill you.
            I agree, Covid is another added way to die among a bunch of other ways- another feather in the devil’s cap.
            The reading this Sunday gives us an accounting for a true Christian attitude towards these changing times. St Paul said we can indure all things through Christ who strengthens us. With Jesus, all things are possible- even joyful.
            Death and suffering will eventually greet us all here. No one gets out alive and unscathed.
            But death is death and suffering is suffering.
            It can be considered all encompassing or all rubbish depending on your attitude towards it and the level of grace one is in.
            If perfect love casts out all fear, one may find ANY deadly form a “mild” thing. St
            Lawrence joked as he was being roasted over an open fire. The martyrs in the Roman colosseum sang during their tortures. Their focus was on eternity and true joy spoke through the darkness. I hope to be so joyful if I am taken in some unpleasant way whether it be covid, cancer or coronary.
            This disease is no joke since death is no joke and it is deadly serious for those who face it. But not because of it, but because of what lays after it, the eternal death or the eternal life.
            St Lawrence and the church martyrs, pray for us.

      2. A lot is going on with this disease. Agreed. I agree with Patrick regarding its mildness. Bodies are not lying on the ground nor has a mass extinction occurred. Except for the elderly and medically challenged, this disease is survivable. The hype doesn’t meet expectations.

        Yet, Political Correctness does.

        An airborne (water droplet) virus traveling six feet or greater in a brisk wind is a risk to humanity? This is SUBMISSION. Peer pressure for the common good. Mob rule.

        A couple weeks ago I witnessed a motorcyclist, riding solo with a windscreen, wearing a cloth mask. I also witness countless people eating inside a diner within sixfeet of one another. Then get up, don a mask to pay their bill.

        1. But you know what’s kinda one unintended-good from this mess? The ability for more people to work from home.

          Some of the daily commute people were beholden to was unnecessary and harmful. Some. For example, it’s kinda nice for dads not to be so stressed-out with an added 2 hours/day hectic commute.

          Hopefully the take-away is a more measured, balanced approach.

        2. Hear, hear! I have not social distanced, except when in the presence of those who do. I have hugged any and all fellow huggers during this time, and I have worn a mask two times. Once for an E.R. visit early on and once for the first indoor Mass at our Diocese Cathedral, even though the Bishop pro-temp and the lectures did not. I was faint at the end of the hour and chose to handle the mask issue in other ways as possible/available. In my limited massage therapy practice, I have been hands on, no mask or gloves as have my clients with their consent and approval. Praise be to God that I have not presented any signs of illnesses. ❤

  21. Very well written article about the CCP money coming in thru Vancouver CA for US disruption. Coincidences in Vancouver Suggest China Money Laundering Funding Disruption in US
    This seems to go way beyond the current election and is a stealth war on the US. We will need all our spiritual defenses and virtues to hold fast to the truth and “know, love, and serve God”
    So, so often I have wanted to react and take action “my way” and I feel a sense in prayer that I need to be very careful of discerning God’s will and tread only in His steps.

  22. Hahahahaha!!! On my fb feed today and I thought it very comforting especially this part: “many souls in this world do not like even themselves. So they find it hard to imagine that anyone, particularly the God of All,”. Lol!!! How often do I think that of myself for I always feel I say or do the wrong things!!! Lol. I’m sure we all feel that way in our humanity some days!

    1. Holy Moly, CD, I didn’t realize you flew Hercs! My husband flew ski-equipped C-130s and deployed to Antarctica. That’s when the Navy worked to support the National Science Foundation in that endeavor. Come to think of it, he went to Little Rock for training (had flown another aircraft before that).         I was an IP in the Herk Training Group @ LRAFB. I had some Gold Wing Navy/Marine/Coast Guard students under my care. I think they all passed their check rides ….. somehow? …. they all had to learn the “Gospel” according to the USAF …. I remember having to deal with some crying & whining about that 😉

  26. Question for the techno geeks: My (paid) email service provider has discontinued their email service. Any recommendations?

    I choose to pay as I have an expectation of privacy. I looked at a robust company (swiss) but do nit need that kind of security. I don’t want for my email messages to be scanned, collated and sold to the next business opportunity.

    1. Yes, Littlelight, I have been on the DFOT distribution list for more than 15 years. I actually facilitated a prayer group for a long while and was in communication with “Anne” a number of years ago about our work in China. She has been visiting with our online Mothers of the Church study series which has been underway since last month and I also hop onto an online platform similar to Zoom when Anne joins us for prayer and then addresses our gathered group. Today’s email is exactly what ASOH and CORAC are about… doing the little we can do right in front of us and dwelling on TRUST as well as the fact that God has a Plan unfolding in this current darkness. How often Charlie has used the phrasing that God never leaves us bereft. AMen. As for sharing latest releases, there’s no link as it’s not always publicly posted but anyone can sign up for them at the Direction for Our Times website. 🙂
