Issues with web addresses

Nov 19 approx 8:30 pm ET: I apologize to everyone. I have attempted a change in the site address and have created a problem. Please read as you wish, but accounts on WordPress.com may not work, comments may not register. I am seeking answers as fast as I can.

SteveBC

Edit #1 later in this Nov 19 evening: I’ve managed to reset things to their original configuration and all is working correctly. It appears I was too impatient and didn’t let various changes percolate through the internet before moving to the next step, er, the next right step. 😀 I will be attempting the final bit of change in a few days.

Now that I have a little bit of time, I would like to explain that we are attempting to create a new URL for everyone to bookmark, one that can be used to help in migrating this site to another hosting service if we for some reason need to do so or are required to do so by events. If I can successfully change us over (seamlessly!) to the new URL, everyone who bookmarks the new URL will be able to follow us easily to any location no matter where the site is hosted.

I will not be able to finish this process until after Thanksgiving. Meanwhile the site should be working as it always has. I apologize if anyone was inconvenienced earlier this evening.

    1. Sheralyn, just a note to say that we bought ”unders” in all sizes for the refugees of Paradise. Evidently, they will be distributed by the Elks in Chico. A teacher from Silverton will drive a trailer down filled with supplies. I hope this information is useful for you where you are.

      1. Katey,
That was so kind of you. It is unfathomable…the destruction and loss. It is truly a place where you see many “next right steps” happening. Every little act of kindness eases someone’s burden. One of my closest friends sons lost everything, we are helping him to a greater degree. Our local representative had a gift card drive, and that was also successful.

  1. Thanks so much for your dedication to this website. Changing hosting server may be necessary . Some web sites I used to read like Gab were censored by their hosting service. Thanks Steve!

  2. Uh, Actually…please hurry Steve. I’m stuck on the Rez this week and will be bored silly on Thanksgiving day without A Sign of Hope up and running properly! 🦃

Kidding, of course. You obviously do so much work behind the scenes keeping this website a thing of beauty and running smoothly; it’s only when something goes awry that we are somewhat aware of what you do….and that’s a pretty damn rare occurrence. We are grateful for all you do to enable Charlie to reach us and us to communicate so well with each other.

    Happy Thanksgiving, Tech Guru Steve!

      1. I think that particular blues song has already been written, B, and a lot of folks here are sadly singing it, as you well understand. At a local watering hole, a somber younger fellow sitting next to me asked where I was from. I said “Rapid, but originally from Buffalo NY.” Here turned back to his beer and said almost sadly, “And you came to the Rez?” as if to say, “Why in the world would anyone do that?” I turned back to my beer and we just sat there quietly until I left.

As a minority here, some despise me, some engage me, some ignore me.

This has really been a great learning experience.

              1. Yes, definitely. And whenever possible, we use humor to foster a rapport with the person or the family. People need to be listened to, and to know the person who is treating them genuinely cares about them. The women I’ve been shadowing are so compassionate toward their patients, even the difficult ones. Those who come to the clinic for care are very appreciative.

It’s especially endearing when my preceptor finishes a well-child exam on an infant and then continues to hold the child close while speaking with the mother, pressing the child’s little head against her own. It’s so instinctive, so natural, so joyful to see.

I am a total non-geek. 🤪 Lucky to get my machines turned on, much less figure out the inner workings of the different applications.

        1. Katey, we are not planning on moving the website. However, if I can get this new website address to work, and if we someday do have to move, your bookmark of the new address will take you right to the new website location as soon as it is up and running. We won’t lose you or anyone else. 🤓

  5. SteveBC, you should just let me do it. I know that you are aware of my advanced computer knowledge and my super-duper-totally-incredibly-awesome tech skills. I even managed to make a call from my husband’s cell phone the day before yesterday (I kid you not).

Just send me an e-mail if you need some help.

  6. Steve,
Sounds like your switching from WordPress.com to the self hosted WordPress.org. We have used the self hosted WordPress for years on our own VPS server with 5 websites, all wordpress based. It gives you much more flexibility.

There have been reports lately of WordPress censoring conservatives and fudging traffic referral numbers, it will probably only get worse. We make weekly backups, just in case of ?…

    1. John, thank you for the information. That would be our fallback should something like that happen. The development of a new website address is the first step in our planning. Shifting to a WP.org installation would be the second, should we ever need that (we hope we never do!). If you have any recommendation for hosting services that truly are committed to free speech, please send it/them to TNRS.answers@gmail.com. We have one possibility, but I would love to have more, especially ones that are dedicated to free speech and willing to host Christian and pro-life websites like this one.

I will send you an email later today (hopefully!).

We have worked with another company and offer our own web hosting services. We handle the website, they do the service and maintenance to the web servers, and handle help questions. https://www.stclarewebhosting.com/ We have been with this company for 11 years now and have been very happy with them.

        I recommend getting you domain name at http://namecheap.com/ . $10 a year.

          1. We would defend your site (and ours) as well as we could, but if the company we partner with decides to pull something funny, there isn’t much we could do.

I have been working on an alternative, and that would be setting up a server at home using WAMP or LAMP (if Linux based) and hosting our sites on my own computer. Think “Hillary Clinton email server” although I wouldn’t keep it in my basement bathroom closet. This is very complex is taking a lot of thought, but if needed, it would be an option.

  8. Echoing everyone here in expressing grateful thanks to you SteveBC for keeping us all in touch with Charlie’s words and each other. It is easy to take the modern means of communication and all technology for granted, that’s one of the reasons I love to go camping.

Our move from the city to country is four days old and one needs to go through all the ‘changes of addresses’ in order to get our lives back to ‘normal’ – power, telephone, internet, mail, etc. We are still in the chaos of unpacking and it takes time to reach that stage of comfortable living.

I have noticed the one constant through this upheaval which definitely provides calm and the strength to keep going and that is prayer-life. Your post today Steve is actually calming too. How different it would be if we could not find asignofhope442992340.wordpress.com and yet I’m sure that the good Lord would provide the comfort we seek when we continue to pray for each other even with the possibility of never ‘speaking’ with each other again.

Today is the Feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary here and so tomorrow is your day of Thanksgiving. I think it is a day all countries should take on board for obvious reasons. Wishing all American friends here a meaningful, happy and safe celebration of all God’s blessings.

I used to have fun with the computer geeks when they had a long meeting. I’d think of a snappy saying, translate into bits n bytes then print to letter size paper with LARGE print, hold to their office window. The reaction was priceless, one smiling face to another.

For me, I rely on a computer program. They… read & comprehend it as you see above.

      1. Sean, as I read your comment, I was sitting next to my kid who will be receiving his BS in Computer Science next month. I asked him what on earth your message said. He looked at it and said, “The first letter is ‘i.'” I then asked, “Can’t you just copy the message and then put it into something to translate it back into letters?” His response, “I could write a program to do it, but not from your Chromebook.” I don’t know why, but I find that to be very funny.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and to all in the TNRS-ASOH family. 🙂

      2. Love it, Sean. I actually have a geeky type son who landed a job at Microsoft upon graduation from college. He opted to work on cutting edge development and then fell in love with a dental student who he eventually married. His time at Microsoft was a good foundation for landing successive jobs, including his software architect work. What a perfect message you sent us today! “O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee” Amen!

  12. Happy Tryptophan Hangover Day! I was and am thankful for all my friends here. I have experienced some answered prayers and for two months I have looked forward to my very limited and usually late night sleepy-eyed time with you. Thank you for the wisdom to deepen my understanding, the personal reflection that has helped me not feel crazy or alone and the humor that fills my dreams with many squirrels!

Being more separated from this like-minded community, I developed kind of a coping mechanism. I think about that first time, in heaven when I walk into a room and above the door reads “A Sign of Hope”…

Before I enter I hear joyful praise music…I walk in and see Bekita at the piano (or the heavenly equivalent thereof 🙂 All the saints we’ve solicited are there revealing how those impossible prayers were answered. Our guardian Angels (who already know each other) are filling in the gaps of our earthly knowledge. Everyone is singing, laughing, hugging…and Jesus has his arm around Charlie saying “thank you good and faithful servant.” Mary is not far…surrounded by us but not missing the moment…that will last for eternity…

  13. I’m sure that there is good news out-there somewhere …. but …??? ;-(
The only Silver Lining I see is the Scandal & Cover-ups are Not being swept under the rug and the Left, Media/Politicians/Activists, have decided that attacking Christians in general and Catholic Church in particular is A-OK. Not too long ago they were fearful of losing Democrat Voters but now have decided that demoralizing/confusing The Faithful and destroying their Churches is more important for The Agenda. Likewise on the Political Front, the same Perps are trying to demoralize/confuse the conservative elements by libeling their leaders and attacking the civic/social beliefs and institutions of Our Founders. It ain’t gonna end well as these strategies have divided the USA, on many fronts, to the point of Civil War …. and nobody can predict the outcomes after the first shots are fired!!

  14. URGENT
Fr. Heilman posted this announcement from the Diocese of Madison on Facebook a few minutes ago:

Your urgent prayers are needed –The following message was sent to the priests of the Diocese of Madison, from our Vicar General, Msgr. James Bartylla, moments ago:

    Dear Brothers in Christ,

Thank you for all of your prayers in recent hours. I write with an update of heavy news in regards to our beloved Bishop Robert Morlino. Whereas yesterday morning held a number of good reasons for hope for the recovery of the bishop, today has been filled with a number of disappointments in that regard. Unfortunately, matters have continued to turn for the worst and it is likely that our hope lays in a miracle at this point. In particular, we are asking for the miraculous intercession of Ven. Samuel Mazzuchelli. I would ask that in addition to prayers for a miracle, you also pray that if and when the time comes, the Bishop would be given the grace of a happy death and may look soon upon the face of our God, The Vision which shall not disappoint.

In prayer for our beloved Bishop, Msgr. Jim

  15. May Bishop Morlino’s soul rest in peace and may his intercession strengthen us in these days. We’ve not only lost a strong Bishop for the Madison diocese, but also a strong voice for the Catholic Church in America. Bishop Morlino began his service in the episcopacy in my own Diocese of Helena and because of our communication about various issues, he endearingly called me “The Queen of Hearts.” May Christ’s Perpetual Light shine on our Bishop Morlino.

From Fr. Rick Heilman last night:
    Requiescat in pace, Bishop Morlino

There was a call for all night Adoration at our Diocesan Center for Bishop Morlino. I went to expose the Blessed Sacrament. Two minutes before we entered the sanctuary, a call came that things were not going well with Bishop.

After an hour before the Blessed Sacrament, I wrestled whether to go down to the hospital to pray for him there, even though he was not taking visitors. Ninety minutes later, I couldn’t fight it off any longer, so I rushed down to the hospital. Just as I arrived, Bishop passed. I was there. Isn’t it always the way? When you are close to someone, you know … you just know.

Everyone knows my affection for Bishop. But, I also know that all of the serious Catholics in our diocese adored him. Yes, I do believe we witnessed a saint in our midst; a St. Athansius against the rampant modernism in our times.

My love and my prayers go out to everyone grieving this great loss. I love you, Bishop. You were more than my Shepherd, you were a dad to me and countless others.

    Requiescat in pace, Bishop Morlino
